Seriously? Four years ago, America was losing 800k jobs per *MONTH*. Our stock market, on which the hopes, dreams, and 401ks of millions of Americans relied, fell by half. Banks were scared out of their minds to do business with each other because none of them knew which banks might actually be bankrupt. GM was hurtling toward Chapter 11. Chrysler was hurtling toward Chapter 7. In the last 6 months of the Bush Presidency the economy contracted by 13 percent! Osama bin Laden was living in a fortress somewhere in Pakistan, plotting his next move against this country.

NONE of those things are happening today. But to the Republicans, *every* election is just like 1980, where a telegenic ultraconservative with impeccable image control will swoop into their living rooms and essentially tell them "never mind the rabble, this is *our* country."

This country still isn't where we want it to be, but it is improving and as long as we stay the course we will succeed.

We are unquestionably, indisputably better off than we were 4 years ago. The question I have for all of you is, if Mitt Romney is President 4 years from now, which of his buddies are we going to have to bail out, and what will you be asked to sacrifice to pay for it?
