Nevada and trhe Super Bowl since 2001

Just some interesting stuff I found in another forum...

Las Vegas is the biggest favorite in the Super Bowl.

Nevada sportsbooks are 9-1 and up a comfortable $81.2 million in the last 10 Super Bowls. But their only loss was their biggest ever.

The New York Giants’ upset of the New England Patriots as 12-point underdogs cost the sportsbooks a record $2.6 million in 2008.

"People came into Las Vegas and they wanted to root for David," Las Vegas Hilton sportsbook executive director Jay Kornegay told the Associated Press after the Giants’ win. "The anticipated large wagers that we expected on the Patriots just never materialized."

That loss ended a 12-game Super Bowl win streak for the Nevada sportsbooks. Their last loss came in 1995 with the San Francisco 49ers’ 49-26 blowout of the San Diego Chargers, but that only cost the books $400,000.

Compare that to the books’ $15.4 million haul in 2005. The Philadelphia Eagles covered as 7-point underdogs in a 24-21 loss to the Patriots. The books won 17 percent of the $90,759,236 wagered.

Summary of Nevada Sportsbook Performance for last 10 Super Bowls

It looks like books make a good chunk from ML bets, considering they made 13.9% in 2007 on Colts, when 56% of the public had Colts -7, which covered. 56% means about 7.6% of losses, so there had to of been at least 60% on CHI ML to get back the losses +14% more. (44% lost on CHI +7 x .1 + 44 = 48.4. 56-48.4 = 7.6% losses from spread)

Thinking the same thing applies here with large % (65%+) on PITT ML and only about 55% on Packers minus the points.

We don't know volume, but we can't work with anything else, and it's probably comparable to %.

So most money is probably on PITT. I doubt Vegas comes out ahead if PITT ML cashes.

    Seen those numbers before.

So I assume the public were all over the niners in that blowout even though the spread was sky high??

In terms of worldwide handle, these numbers look very small.

    Vegas soon will not matter.

Wow, only 1 losing year in the last 10 years? That's quite impressive. Does that take into accounts all bets or just 'side' bets? Reason I'm mentioning is that 'prop' bets I heard have overtaken what is wagered on the actual game itself.

-110 on every bet is a mountain of profit, and most games in Vegas go off at those odds. And yes, I'm sure all the props are included.

But I saw an article that said worldwide handle is 3 Billion so if correct, Vegas is a flea on the dog.

$6 to $12 million range does seem small, considering there are whales that lose that kind of money by themselves at a single baccarat session.

    Good info.

Looks like the AFC wins more often than the NFC in the past 10 super bowls.

Maybe everyone should place a bet on the Steelers? They are the underdog for some reason.

500 billion was bet on all sports globally so this looks really small.

I saw an article from 2002 that said that most experts believe that Nevada accounts for less than 2% of sports wagers in the world. It's probably less than 1% now. If the $3 billion number is accurate, maybe the Nevada percentage is higher for the Super Bowl.

Why is that? Who are the big players in global sports betting?

Worldwide? Really? I'm not sure there are many people in Argentina or Australia or Austria who are clamoring to bet the SB.
