Is Mark Brunell Really That Bad?!?

I know the spread for the CHI/NYJ game was taken off the board and the ML was only available at some places. Now the total is the only thing to bet on, or it has been taken completely off.

I know Sanchez is a gametime decision right now...but their backup is Mark Brunell. Last time I checked, Brunell is a pretty solid quarterback who has been deeply involved in the Jets offensive play schemes. He knows the offense, he's a crafty vet...why is the line off the board?

    Any info or banter welcome.

    (Go Bears)

Wow I didn't even know Brunell was still in the league. Once upon a time I thought he was pretty solid but how fukkin old is he? Old man Favre didn't fare too well against Da Bears. Who's the third stringer? They might be better off with a lot of Brad Smith.

“He’s smart, he’s done it all,” Ryan said of the 18-year veteran. “We’re not talking about a guy who’s never done it before in his career. This guy was a Pro Bowl quarterback for a number of years. Is he as good as Mark Brunell was back then? No, because he’d be our starting quarterback. I feel comfortable with Mark, I really do.”

Looks like a backhanded slap at Sanchez.

Brunell is a garbage time QB. you only want him playing in rec two-hand touch local football leagues.

Check his stats when he subbed for Brees in the saints final game last year. Straight trash.

This reminds me of when Romo was injured a couple of years ago, and Rob Johnson subbed for him.

Cowboys didnt even record a first down for about 4 games straight.

Brunell is like 46 and couldn't throw more than 5 yards for the Skins about 5 years ago. Probably didn't discover the barry bonds fountain of youth since then either.

Luckily the Jets don't rely on offensive power to win football games. All Brunell would have to do is not throw picks and get first downs. (and no, I don't think he's a Balco Boy)

I remember when Brunell was QB for the Jax Jaquars. He was the pride of northeast Florida. Then one day he was replaced by Byron Leftwich. That worked out good for the Jags.

He legitimately lost his backup role to Mark Brunell. That should tell you how bad he is.

yeah, the jags could've eeked out a few more years out of him before dumping him.

but this game, chicago will crowd the box and dare brunell to beat them with his arm.

he cannot throw down field for shit.

For sure. Brunell is no Brett Favre and I think that will be apparent come game time.

the correct answer to this question is "we don't know."

Brunell could be a big upgrade over Sanchez
if he resembles his play from years ago.

He's been tutoring Sanchez all year, so don't think he doesn't have ego on the line.
Age is not an issue at all when you haven't been playing and are fresh.

I can't believe some of you think Brunell is legit. He is TERRIBLE!!!!!! The Jets are a solid team all around, however, and they haven't needed a good QB to do well (obviously, I don't think much of Dirty Sanchez either).

I'm convinced.. 40 year old Brunell is an upgrade over Sanchez.
