Pats Cut Andrews loose
The Patriots just announced the release of third-year defensive back Willie Andrews. The news comes on the heels of Andrews second arrest since the Super Bowl loss to the Giants in Febuary.
The defensive back was charged on Monday with allegedly holding a handgun to his fiancee’s head during an argument at his Mansfield apartment. Back in February, Andrews had been arrested in Lowell two days following the Super Bowl and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
The 24-year-old was drafted by the Patriots in the seventh round of the 2006 NFL Draft. In two seasons, he totaled one defensive tackle, 23 special teams tackles and returned four kickoffs for 149 yards.
He is being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing at Attleboro District Court on Thursday.
In other news, the Pats also announced the signing of sixth-round draft choice Bo Ruud. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. The 23-year-old Ruud, a linebacker, was a three-year starter at Nebraska.
