Sunday's Front Page NFL Picks (Oct 21)

Chalk the Cincinnati Bengals (-6½) vs. the New York Jets

    Game Time: 10/21/2007 04:05 PM -
    By: Ben Burns | sportspic.com

With both teams among the NFL's busts in the early going, at least the Cincinnati Bengals have the home crowd behind them this Sunday against the New York Jets.

Two of the biggest early season underachievers meet at Paul Brown Stadium on Sunday when the Cincinnati Bengals host the New York Jets. Both teams are mired in losing streaks and both lost again last week.

Yes, the Bengals have struggled on the road. However, they've still gone 1-1 at home and those two games came vs. a pair of elite teams in Baltimore and New England. Including the seven-point win over the Ravens, Cincinnati's last three home victories, and four of five, have all come by a minimum of six points.

Meanwhile, nine of the Jets' last 10 losses have come by a minimum of 10 points. While New York has no hope of making the playoffs, the Bengals still have an outside shot at doing so. In order to keep that hope alive, they absolutely need to win this game. If they can do that and beat Pittsburgh next week, they're right back within striking distance.

The Bengals should be able to take the first step towards accomplishing that feat with a win and cover on Sunday. Consider laying the points.

    Free Pick: Bengals -6½

Win with Chiefs +1½ at Raiders

    Game Time: 10/21/2007 04:05 PM -
    By: Will Cover | playbook.com

Kansas City is 3-0 against the spread on the road this season, and 4-0 versus the numbers in Oakland lately. Take the Chiefs as road pups in Sunday's game at the Raiders.

The Kansas City Chiefs shoot for their third against the spread road win in a row and we'll take any points available in this heated division rivalry.

Most impressive of those three wins was the beat-down that KC administered to the Chargers in San Diego on Sep 30, a 30-16 straight up victory taking 11 points. Kansas City has won three of their last four games straight up and against the spread.

The Oakland Raiders were pounded by those same Chargers in San Diego, 28-14, in a non-covering loss after their bye week. This KC call is supported by the numbers that show the Chiefs have owned the Raiders of late, cashing three of the last four against the spread and the fact that Oakland is 0-4 against the spread in their last four at home in this series.

    Free Pick: Chiefs +1½ (+100)

    Play Cardinals +9 at Redskins

    Game Time: 10/21/2007 01:00 PM -
    By: Bill Young | touthouse.com

The Redskins are the better team and have home field advantage over the Cardinals on Sunday, but Washington will not be able to cover this spread when they host Arizona.

Whether Cardinals QB Kurt Warner can go or not, the Redskins should not be an 9-point favorite against any team in this league. Washington won in a blowout over Detroit in their last home game, but the Cardinals are a much more consistent team than the Lions are this season.

Arizona will hang in the whole way with an offense that is as explosive as any in the NFC. The Cardinals are putting up 25 points per game on the road this season. Arizona is 7-2 ATS in their last nine games against NFC opponents. The underdog is 9-4-1 ATS in the last 14 meetings in this series.

The Cardinals also get to look forward to a bye week next weekend. Arizona is 11-5 ATS in their last 16 games in the week prior to a bye. The Cardinals are 6-0 ATS in their last six games following a loss. Take Arizona and the points.

    Free Pick: Cardinals +9 (-115)
