    Gamblers' Sickness - MNF

I have been there. Play Thr, Sat, Sun, and just can't let MNF go unwagered- regardless of the play. Last night for football action until Thr, but really Sat.

I see the threads here and it reminds me of my past - betting MNF regardless. Years ago I always ask myself: would I bet on the MNF game if it were played on Sunday - 9 times out of 10 the answer was no... and 9 times out of 10 I would still bet on the game. And 9 times out of 10, I would lose - and worse, if I was trying to make-up a bad weekend, I would lose a lot.

I have just got back into sports betting after a 15 year hiatus - I am still working on my discipline, but so far have mapped out my betting plan by Thr/Fri and been able to stick with it - even come MNF.

Good luck to everyone tonight, especially those last minute betters.

    Peg,

    Good post!

A lot of people use Monday night to try and get even if they've had a losing weekend which is probably not the best of ideas.

You hit the nail right on the head with the word discipline. Don't bet on games just for the hell of it. On this board, I've always been so impressed with Looker. Plenty of days you'll see him post: "Nothing for me today". He's got discipline that most of the rest of us just envy.

almost everyone bets MNF. it truly takes a disciplined gambler to sit there and just watch it.

Well I think anyone chasing losses to the point that they're tripling their bet size is making a bad decision. For Monday Night though, yes I agree usually they aren't games I'd like on Sunday. If the games are really bad I try to pass, but usually in that case I'll just bet smaller.

I like the Skins too - division rivalry and getting 7... but MNF home teams are tough - fans are really into it getting the home team up (I was there in Cincy last Monday)... but then again Skins and 7 - what to do?

If I had to bet, I would take Philly ML - MNF home teams are tough to beat.

    Good Luck

does the week really ever end?

with the advent of offshore sportsbooks (the only way to play in my opinion) does a week really ever end? on a monday night? i know iy used to for me and those were some gutwrenching times when like it was posted before id end up betting the farm on a game that i wouldnt have touched if it were buried in a 9 game 1pm card, there is an advantage to monday night however if you are able to throw actual handicapping out the window and that is that in an isolated game situation where we all know most everyone's back is against the wall the majority opinion is that of those who got turned inside out from thurs-sunday - so simply going opposite regardless of how the game looks on paper has been a very profitable situation for many on monday night.

the guy who passes on a mnf game isnt so much a disciplined gambler -- that to me is an oxy-moron-- he is simply an investor in the outcome of sporting events. a gambler gambles. a gambler lives for the 3 hour escape that having action on a game brings. win, lose, or draw is secondary to having money riding on something. where as a guy who invests in the outcome of sporting events doesn't even need to watch the game. emotion is left out of the equation, and all decisions made are rational ones. i, admittedly, am a gambler. i happen to love betting. period. horses, dogs, jai-alai, football, baseball, hockey, hoops, poker, casino games. ive been betting soccer, rugby, tennis, nascar, and golf. winning is great, but losing sure as hell is no deterrent from making that next bet. in fact after getting creamed over the weekend there is no way you can tell me that i wont win tonight and thats the beauty of gambling. i used to work for a sports service and we went after all gamblers with the same approach which is why i was always able to get guys to pay me after losing the first game. more on this later.

but i just cant stress how important it is to clearly define who you are in the world of gambling to recognize without hesitation that you are a compulsive gambler, if in fact you are, as i am, then you can actually go after games with the right mentality, rather than deluding yourself that this season is going to be different because you are using a disciplined unit betting philosophy or some new strategy. i bang out 7 teamers and i bet on everything i go for the big score and when i hit it makes up for weeks worth of losing in one shot but i bet this way knowing that i need the action and by swinging for the fences when i do connect its enough to keep me rolling for weeks to come. ps - i beat the prick this weekend. tune in to the cricket for another 4-0 weekend this week and until then happy hunting.
