NFL Player News - Week 1

    Courtesy of Footballguys.com

LAC - TE Antonio Gates returns to LA Chargers

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Free-agent TE Antonio Gates (Chargers) agreed to terms with the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, Sept. 2.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gates will have matchup streamer value and posted solid numbers when Hunter Henry was out last year. He'll probably be on our Week 2 waiver wire list for tight end streamers.

NO - RB Mike Gillislee joins New Orleans

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Free-agent RB Mike Gillislee (Patriots) agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints Sunday, Sept. 2, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gillislee should get touches while Mark Ingram is suspended, and might even have some fleeting value in deep leagues. His signing makes Boston Scott a less attractive sleeper in Weeks 1-4.

PHI - QB Carson Wentz still in limbo

    Source: 94WIP Radio - Eliot Shorr-Parks

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz (knee) has yet to be cleared for contact, according to head coach Doug Pederson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wentz is highly unlikely to start on Thursday, and Week 2 is no sure thing. Anyone who drafted Wentz needs to have a Plan B for the early season, and the Eagles offensive outlook will be dimmer with Nick Foles starting.

PHI - RB Jay Ajayi to get the go-ahead for opener

Source: Philadelphia Inquirer - Jeff McLane

Philadelphia Eagles RB Jay Ajayi (lower body) is expected to practice this week and will play in the season opener against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, Sept. 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Eagles had been resting him and managing his knee issues in the preseason. While Ajayi is clear for Week 1, this is a reminder of his season-long limitations.

NE - RB Sony Michel involved in positional drills

Source: Boston Herald - Kevin Duffy

New England Patriots RB Sony Michel (knee) was spotted taking part in positional drills Sunday, Sept. 2.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We don't know how close Michel is to playing against the Houston, but this is a good sign that he'll be available early in the season. The Patriots backfield is going to be tough to project in Week 1.

CHI - TE Adam Shaheen lands on IR

Source: Chicago Tribune - Brad Biggs

Chicago Bears TE Adam Shaheen (ankle, foot) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Sunday, Sept. 2.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is big news for Trey Burton's stock. He could be a top five tight end getting the majority of the tight end targets in Matt Nagy's offense.

DEN - Denver parts ways with QB Paxton Lynch

Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero

Denver Broncos QB Paxton Lynch was waived Sunday, Sept. 2.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

And with that, the Broncos 2016 first-rounder is gone. The Cowboys loved him and might give him a chance, although they have three rosterable quarterbacks. Lynch should have another shot somewhere, but it might be his last.

NYG - QB Davis Webb let go

    Source: ESPN.com - Jordan Raanan

New York Giants QB Davis Webb was waived Sunday, Sept. 2.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Webb was billed as a potential replacement for Eli Manning and cited as a possible reason the Giants passed on Sam Darnold. Instead, he gets beat out by 30-year-old Alex Tanney for a spot as the third quarterback. He might find his way onto a practice squad.

NYJ - WR Breshad Perriman to work out for NY Jets

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper

Free-agent WR Breshad Perriman (Ravens) is scheduled to work out for the New York Jets on Monday, Sept. 3.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Jets will have an opening at receiver for two games while Ardarius Stewart serves his suspension, so there's a chance for Perriman to stick here, at least initially.

LAC - QB Cardale Jones sent packing

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper

Los Angeles Chargers QB Cardale Jones was waived Sunday, Sept. 2.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Chargers originally kept three quarterbacks, but ended up opting for Geno Smith to back up Philip Rivers. Jones had previously played with head coach Anthony Lynn in Buffalo. He might end up on a practice squad.

MIA - TE Mike Gesicki to play key role right away

Source: Palm Beach Post - Jason Lieser

Miami Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki is ready to assume a 'starter-like role' at the very least, according to comments made by head coach Adam Gase on Sunday, Sept. 2.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gesicki and Philadelphia Eagles second round Dallas Goedert should both get chances to seize big roles in the passing game from day one. Goedert has looked more capable of doing that during the preseason.

MIA - Miami lands Luke Falk

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com

Free-agent QB Luke Falk (Titans) was claimed off waivers by the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, Sept. 2.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Dolphins backup quarterback situation is one of the worst in the league with Brock Osweiler, and Ryan Tannehill is far from entrenched as the long-term starter. Falk could be an interesting developmental quarterback to track in deep dynasty 2QB/Superflex leagues.

NE - New England scoops up two WRs off waivers

    Source: MMQB - Albert Breer

Free-agent WRs Chad Hansen (Jets) and Amara Darboh (Seahawks) were claimed off waivers by the New England Patriots on Sunday, Sept. 2.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Neither will play a role in Week 1, but Hansen has some downfield abilities, and Darboh is physically formidable with a solid all-around game. Both have more value as Patriots in dynasty leagues than they had on the teams that drafted them, but only marginally more since they couldn't convince those teams that they were worth a roster spot.

Lynch was a #1 pick that Denver traded up for.

    Jones was a 4th rounder I believe.

    Tuesday Update

PIT - Le'Veon Bell still absent

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell has not reported to the team Monday, Sept. 3, and signed his franchise tender.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bell should report before the regular season but his snap count for Week 1 against the Browns might be much lower than usual. Fantasy GMs should look to James Conner as an emergency option if Bell's holdout lasts into the regular season.

BUF - RB LeSean McCoy cleared for opener

Source: The Washington Post - Mark Maske

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy is eligible to play in Week 1 versus the Baltimore Ravens and will not be placed on the commissioner's exempt list 'at this time,' according to comments made by league spokesman Brian McCarthy on Monday, Sept. 3.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The key phrase is 'at this time' in that comment. The league could choose to put McCoy on the Exempt List at some time later in the year. There is still an ongoing investigation stemming from a home invasion involving his ex-girlfriend.

PHI - No practice for WR Alshon Jeffery

    Source: PhiladelphiaEagles.com

Philadelphia Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery (shoulder) did not practice Monday, Sept. 3.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No surprise here. Jeffery is fully expected to miss the first couple of weeks of the regular season.

NYJ - QB Sam Darnold officially starting

    Source: ESPN.com - Josina Anderson

New York Jets QB Sam Darnold has been named the starter for Week 1 versus the Detroit Lions, according to sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The move was expected, especially after the team traded Teddy Bridgewater to the Saints. Darnold is getting thrown into the fire for the Jets and he's going to make some mistakes. Fantasy GMs have better options to start in Week 1, but we are excited to see Darnold play and develop.

PIT - WR Antonio Brown returns to practice

    Source: DKPittsburghSports.com - Dale Lolley

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown (quad) was back at practice Monday, Sept. 3.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A good sign for Brown with the regular season underway this week. Fantasy GMs are giddy to start Brown each week as a no-brainer WR1.

DEN - RB Royce Freeman expected to start opener

Source: The Denver Post - Ryan O'Halloran

Denver Broncos RB Royce Freeman has reportedly moved atop the depth chart and will be named the starting running back for Week 1 versus the Seattle Seahawks, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's what Fantasy GMs were anticipating and it seems like Freeman is going to get that nod for the Broncos. Freeman has RB1 upside, but where he was going in drafts was RB2 levels. He'll have RB2 value this year provided he stays healthy and stays on top of the depth chart.

NYG - RB Saquon Barkley pronounces self fit for Week 1

    Source: Giants.com

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley (hamstring) told the team's website he is 'definitely ready for a full workload' in Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We can't wait to see Barkley on the field in the regular season. A full workload as the centerpiece of an offense means Barkley has RB1 upside for Fantasy GMs provided he stays healthy.

PHI - QB Nick Foles to start Week 1

    Source: PhiladelphiaEagles.com - Dave Spadaro

Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles will start Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons Thursday, Sept. 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This move was expected. The Eagles need to give Carson Wentz all the time he needs as he continues to come back from the knee injury that shortened his 2017 season. He's getting close, but the Eagles figured to give him more time...especially since they open up the season on Thursday night against the Falcons.

CLE - WR Josh Gordon practicing

Source: Medina County Gazette - Scott Petrak

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon (hamstring) is practicing Monday, Sept. 3.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gordon is not going to start against the Steelers in Week 1. However, he is expected to play on a certain snap count. That makes him a boom/bust 'what the heck' flex play for Fantasy GMs in the season opener.

BUF - QB Nathan Peterman the starter

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Buffalo Bills QB Nathan Peterman was named the starting quarterback Monday, Sept. 3.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Peterman is just keeping the seat warm for 2018 first-round pick Josh Allen. Fantasy GMs are wisely not expecting much from the Bills passing game in 2018...no matter who the starting quarterback is.

NYG - WR Breshad Perriman to work out

Source: The Bergen Record - Art Stapleton

Free-agent WR Breshad Perriman (Ravens) is scheduled to work out for the New York Giants Tuesday, Sept. 4, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A first-round pick for the Ravens in the 2015 NFL draft, Perriman never made much of an impact in Baltimore due to injuries and inconsistencies. He's got speed to blow by defenders but concentration has been an issue. We'll likely see Perriman added to some team looking for depth at the position.

BUF - Buffalo will host QB Paxton Lynch

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Free-agent QB Paxton Lynch (Broncos) will work out for the Buffalo Bills Tuesday, Sept. 4, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This seems like an odd fit for workaholic Sean McDermott. Lynch was a first-round pick for the Broncos in 2016 but he was beat out by seventh-round picks (Trevor Siemian, Chad Kelly) two years in a row. Concerns about his work ethic and ability to run a pro offense surfaced during his time in Denver. Lynch passed through waivers unclaimed but there is some team who should be willing to take a chance on a 6'7" mobile quarterback with a rocket arm.

NYG - TE Evan Engram limited Monday

    Source: ESPN.com - Jordan Raanan

New York Giants TE Evan Engram (concussion) was on the field during practice Monday, Sept. 3, but was wearing a non-contact jersey during team drills.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep an eye on Engram during the week of practice. He's a TE1 for Fantasy GMs so long as he plays. We'll have a better feel for his playing status in Week 1 later in the week.

PHI - RB Jay Ajayi has limited practice

    Source: PhiladelphiaEagles.com

Updating a previous report, Philadelphia Eagles RB Jay Ajayi (foot) put in a limited practice Monday, Sept. 3.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He was at least out there with this foot injury, and his status for Week 1 seems to be on track. Ajayi has RB2 value for the Eagles in the season opener against the Falcons.

DET - RB Donnel Pumphrey gets a look in Detroit

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Free-agent RB Donnel Pumphrey (Eagles) will be one of several running backs working out with the Detroit Lions on Tuesday, Sept. 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pumphrey failed to make the Eagles 53-man roster this year and is looking for work. The Lions might want to add him as a change-of-pace back.

CLE - Antonio Calloway to start Week 1

Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich

Cleveland Browns WR Antonio Calloway will draw the start over Josh Gordon in Week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to head coach Hue Jackson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Calloway has the type of explosive playmaking ability to make him a threat anytime he touches the ball. The rookie from Florida makes for a nice 'what the heck' flex in Week 1 against the Steelers.

TEN - TE Delanie Walker expects to play in opener

Source: The Athletic - John Glennon

Tennessee Titans TE Delanie Walker (toe) told reporters Monday, Sept. 3, it is 'still the plan' for him to play in Week 1 against the Miami Dolphins.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Walker is a big part of what the Titans do through the air. Fantasy GMs should consider him a low-end TE1 this season. Monitor his practice participation as the week rolls on and have another option at the ready if you were planning on starting Walker from the jump.

OAK - Oakland agrees with WR Brandon LaFell

Source: NBC Sports Bay Area - Scott Bair

Free-agent WR Brandon LaFell (Bengals) agreed to terms with the Oakland Raiders on Monday, Sept. 3.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

LaFell could win the no.3 wide receiver job for the Raiders eventually. They have Amari Cooper and Jordy Nelson at the top of the depth chart but there are questions behind those veterans. LaFell, coming off a season where he caught 52 passes for 548 yards and three touchdowns, should only be on a roster in super deep leagues.

LAC - WR Mike Williams has big goals

    Source: ESPN.com - Kaila Burns-Heffner

Los Angeles Chargers WR Mike Williams said his back and body feel better since he began a yoga and stretching routine, and he plans on dominating in 2018. '1,000 yards, 10 touchdowns, Pro Bowl,' Williams said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's a great number to start with...especially with coming back from a disappointing rookie season. Williams has a current ADP of WR41 (9.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

DEN - WR Courtland Sutton winning deep balls

Source: The Denver Post - Ryan O'Halloran

Denver Broncos WR Courtland Sutton is on par with Houston Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins and free-agent WR Dez Bryant (Cowboys) with his ability to win 50-50 balls, according to CB Chris Harris Jr.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sutton is one of the most exciting rookie receivers in this class. He's a big-bodied receiver who can play above the rim. The Broncos seemed to like the idea of using 3-WR sets to get Sutton on the field. He may only catch 40 passes as a rookie, but as a red zone target he could snare 5-7 touchdowns in 2018.

OAK - WR Martavis Bryant back in Oakland in 2019?

Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Michael David Smith

Free-agent WR Martavis Bryant (Raiders) could be back with the Oakland Raiders next year, according to head coach Jon Gruden. 'Perhaps we'll get Martavis again next year and get the best out of him,' Gruden said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Raiders gave up the no.79 overall pick for Bryant in the 2018 NFL draft and he couldn't make it through to the final roster. Bryant is facing a suspension for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy, according to ESPN's Dan Graziano. It's rare we see players come back from another round of suspensions.

MIA - Light work for WR DeVante Parker

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (finger) is still wearing a soft cast on his left hand, but he participated in a walkthrough during practice Sunday, Sept. 2.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Parker has been a disappointment during his pro career. Fantasy GMs shouldn't be holding a bunch of Parker's stock, even in deeper leagues. We'll see if he can practice fully during the week of practice before the Dolphins Week 1 contest against the Titans.

Really interesting to see what Bell does this week if he plays at all. I imagine he'll report tomorrow because if not he risks missing that game check.

    Wednesday Update

PIT - WR Antonio Brown expected at full strength

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown (quadriceps) is expected to a 'full go' in the season opener against the Cleveland Browns, head coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday, Sept. 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Great news for the Steelers and Fantasy GMs here. Brown is a no-brainer every week starter so long as he's on the field.

PIT - RB James Conner eliciting confidence

Source: NFL Network - Aditi Kinkhabwala

Pittsburgh Steelers RB James Conner has the confidence of head coach Mike Tomlin in RB Le'Veon Bell's continued absence.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Conner improved his game over the offseason and looks to be a better back in his sophomore season. He's a must-handcuff for every Le'Veon Bell Fantasy GM out there...and the Steelers may have to go with Conner as the lead back in Week 1.

PHI - QB Carson Wentz awaiting medical clearance

    Source: Philly.com - Zach Berman

Updating an ongoing story, Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz (knee) is still waiting on medical clearance, and head coach Doug Pederson said Tuesday, Sept. 4, it is why Nick Foles is starting Thursday night's season opener against the Atlanta Falcons.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're still playing the waiting game with the Eagles star quarterback. Pederson said Wentz is 'close' to getting that clearance, but he had to make the determination on the Week 1 starting quarterback Monday. 'It's still a medical issue,' Pederson said Tuesday. 'As of right now, me standing here, he is not cleared.'

NO - RB Mike Gillislee the No. 2 RB

Source: Baton Rouge Advocate - Nick Underhill

New Orleans Saints RB Mike Gillislee is listed as the backup running back on the Saints' initial depth chart.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Well that didn't take long. Gillislee was released by the Patriots and scooped up by the Saints on Sunday. This puts him behind starter Alvin Kamara for the first four weeks of the year while Mark Ingram is suspended. With Kamara looking like he's going to hog most of the touches in the Saints backfield, Gillislee shouldn't get that many snaps.

MIA - WR DeVante Parker's status unclear

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Charean Williams

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker's (finger) ailing middle finger is 'substantially better,' according to The Miami Herald's Adam Beasley, but his availability for Week 1 is unclear.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Parker has been a disappointment to this point in his career. The potential for him to be a playmaker is there but injuries and inconsistencies have held him back. This injury may keep him out Week 1 against the Titans. That makes Kenny Stills, Danny Amendola and Albert Wilson the top three WRs for Ryan Tannehill on Sunday.

MIA - RB Kenyan Drake, RB Frank Gore co-starters

Source: The Miami Herald - Adam H. Beasley

Miami Dolphins RBs Kenyan Drake and Frank Gore are listed as co-starters on Miami's initial depth chart.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Here we go with another 'co-starters' thing. Drake is the more dynamic back and can be counted on for explosive plays as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. Gore is the steady runner who can make a living by grinding between the tackles. Fantasy GMs should consider Drake a low-end RB2 in Week 1 against the Titans while Gore is more of a 'what the heck' flex play in super deep leagues or superflex leagues.

PHI - RB Jay Ajayi full go Tuesday

    Source: PhiladelphiaEagles.com

Philadelphia Eagles RB Jay Ajayi (foot) was upgraded to a full participant in practice Tuesday, Sept. 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Full go on Tuesday means Ajayi is set to start with no limitations on Thursday night. He'll be the featured back for the Eagles and get roughly half the touches in the backfield. Ajayi can be counted on as a low-end RB2 or flex play in this contest.

PHI - WR Alshon Jeffery remains out

    Source: PhiladelphiaEagles.com

Philadelphia Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery (shoulder) sat out of practice Tuesday, Sept. 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jeffery isn't going to play in Week 1 against the Falcons. Expect him to miss the first couple of weeks of the regular season. We'll see more of Nelson Agholor and Mike Wallace with Jeffery still on the mend.

LAC - TE Antonio Gates to practice Wednesday

    Source: ESPN.com - Eric D. Williams

Los Angeles Chargers TE Antonio Gates will practice Wednesday, Sept. 5, according to head coach Anthony Lynn, giving the team the opportunity to gauge Gates' conditioning and game readiness. 'I don't want to put him in a position where he goes out and hurts himself, and then it sets us back four or five weeks,' Lynn said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gates is no longer the same player he used to be. That being said, his chemistry with Philip Rivers is off the charts and he shouldn't need much time to get up to speed in 2018. He's a low-end TE2 at best for Fantasy GMs this year.

LAC - QB Cardale Jones back with Chargers

    Source: NFLCommunications.com

Free-agent QB Cardale Jones (Chargers) was re-signed to the Los Angeles Chargers' practice squad Tuesday, Sept. 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

As expected, Jones returns to the Chargers to continue his development. He's got a big arm and can use his legs to pick up yards, but Jones needs to be more nuanced as a passer if he wants to get on the field as a quarterback.

TB - WR DeSean Jackson, WR Chris Godwin co-starters

    Source: ESPN.com - Jenna Laine

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WRs DeSean Jackson and Chris Godwin are listed as co-starters opposite WR Mike Evans on the Buccaneers' initial depth chart.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Godwin has been seen as a rising star by Fantasy GMs based on what he did last year as a rookie when Jackson was banged up. Jackson has put together a strong preseason and he needs to bounce back after a disappointing 2017 (his first season with the Buccaneers). We like Godwin as a 'what the heck' flex in deep leagues and Jackson around the same area (WR5 or so) in Week 1 against the Saints.

CAR - WR Curtis Samuel to miss Week 1

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Carolina Panthers WR Curtis Samuel (heart) recently underwent a small procedure to fix an irregular heartbeat, according to a source. He is expected to be sidelined for Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Samuel is a gadget player for the Panthers offense. Only Fantasy GMs in dynasty leagues should be monitoring his progress as a pro at this time.

DET - RB Donnel Pumphrey signing with Detroit

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Free-agent RB Donnel Pumphrey (Eagles) will sign with the Detroit Lions on Tuesday, Sept. 4, and will join the team's practice squad.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pumphrey gives the team a developmental scatback on the practice squad. Injuries derailed his career with the Eagles (after just one year), but the NCAA's all-time leading rusher is looking for a fresh start.

LAC - WR Mike Williams 'back out there having fun'

Source: Chargers Wire - Gavino Borquez

Los Angeles Chargers WR Mike Williams said it's 'totally different' now that he's fully healthy from a herniated disc he sustained at the beginning of training camp last season. 'I'm able to go out there and make those plays I couldn't make last year, make the contested catches,' he said. 'The confidence just comes from being out there. I'm back out there having fun.' For the preseason, Williams hauled in four receptions for 56 yards and a touchdown.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams should be a big part of what the Chargers want to do in their passing game. Keenan Allen is the lead wide receiver, but Williams has a Plaxico Burress-like skill set to win jump passes in the red zone. The emergence of Williams could help the offense even more since they lack a threat at the tight end position.

Holdout Le'Veon Bell remained away from the Steelers for the start of 9 AM meetings Wednesday.

It's not a good sign for Bell's playing status for Week 1 against the Browns. It's tough to envision coach Mike Tomlin throwing Bell out there if he misses part of the practice week, which starts today, especially after being away from the team all summer. James Conner is looking like he'll get the nod right now. Bell has until Saturday afternoon to report in order to get paid for Week 1. Sep 5 - 9:40 AM ET

Now I’m glad I only have Bell in one league and it’s not one of my 4 money leagues. His teammates are not happy with him right now and they have every right to be pissed. Don’t know what this means for Bell’s fantasy outlook.

Bell will probably show in time to get paid, but see limited or no action.

    Thursday Update

PIT - Le'Veon Bell still absent Wednesday

Source: NFL Network - Aditi Kinkhabwala

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell remains absent from the team Wednesday, Sept. 5.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bell's role for Week 1 is dwindling with practice time missed. He needs to show up by Saturday afternoon in order to get his weekly game check. Even if Bell shows up later in the week (Friday?), his role might me limited.

PIT - RB James Conner likely to start opener

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Charean Williams

Pittsburgh Steelers RB James Conner is reportedly expected to start against the Cleveland Browns in Week 1 even if Le'Veon Bell reports to the team Wednesday, Sept. 5. "Much like I've told you guys throughout this process when he gets here is when we will start quantifying all Le'Veon Bell-type things," Tomlin said, via Mark Kaboly of The Athletic. "His overall readiness, the amount of time that we have between our arrival and our next competition, etc. We will weigh all of those things at the appropriate time. Right now, we are singularly focused on the guys who are here working and have been here working and building a plan around variables that we know. That's the appropriate thing."

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Conner has looked better this year than he did last season as a rookie. If he gets a full workload, Conner should post RB2 numbers for Fantasy GMs. If Bell comes back later this week, it will cut into Conner's fantasy value enough to make him not worth starting...even if he gets the starting nod for the Steelers still. Stay tuned.

SF - RB Matt Breida listed as first-team running back

    Source: 49ers.com

San Francisco 49ers RB Matt Breida was listed ahead of Alfred Morris on the team's depth chart Tuesday, Sept. 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Breida had a shoulder injury that knocked him out of the final three preseason games. It was not serious but the team wanted to be cautious with their young back. Even though he is listed as the starer, we should see the 49ers implement a RBBC with Breida and Morris.

SEA - RB Rashaad Penny takes part in practice

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny (hand) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Sept. 5.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Penny is the backup to Chris Carson to begin the regular season. The 2018 first-round pick from San Diego State is getting in better shape and may push for the top spot on the depth chart as the season rolls on.

SEA - Full practice for WR Doug Baldwin

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin (knee) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Sept. 5.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Baldwin is not at full strength but he's going to play against the Broncos. He should be matched up against Bradley Roby and Chris Harris at times, depending on where he lines up. He's a low-end WR2 against the Broncos in Week 1.

WAS - RB Chris Thompson ready for opener

Source: NBC Sports Washington - JP Finlay

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (leg) is not listed on the team's injury report heading into the regular season opener.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thompson may not be back to full strength until later in the year, but when he's on the field we see him as a RB3/flex option for Fantasy GMs in PPR leagues.

WAS - TE Jordan Reed healthy in Week 1

Source: NBC Sports Washington - JP Finlay

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed is practicing and not on the team's injury report heading into Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Start him while you've got him. Every Fantasy GM knows that Reed has the talent to be one of the best at his position...and we all know that he fails to stay healthy for an extended period of time. If he's playing, then he's got TE1 ability.

CLE - WR Josh Gordon without limitations

Source: Medina County Gazette - Scott Petrak

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon (hamstring) said he feels 100 percent and is without limitations Wednesday, Sept. 5. He thinks he can have a big impact against the Pittsburgh Steelers even without starting.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gordon is not starting this week but Fantasy GMs should be intrigued by the boom/bust nature of his skill set in this matchup. We like him as a 'what the heck' flex in Week 1.

HOU - WR Will Fuller limited Wednesday

    Source: ESPN.com - Sarah Barshop

Updating a previous report, Houston Texans WR Will Fuller (hamstring) was limited in practice Wednesday, Sept. 5.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fuller is gearing to play on Sunday against the Patriots. Provided this hamstring injury doesn't act up or slow him down, we like Fuller as a WR3/flex play for Fantasy GMs in Week 1.

TEN - TE Delanie Walker not on injury report

Source: The Tennessean - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans TE Delanie Walker (toe) is not listed on the Titans' injury report for Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Walker declared himself ready to go earlier in the week and this injury report shows he's ready. On the road against the Dolphins, Walker should post mid-range TE1 numbers in Week 1.

MIA - RB Frank Gore able to practice in full

    Source: MiamiDolphins.com - Alain Poupart

Miami Dolphins RB Frank Gore (Achilles') was listed as a full participant in practice Wednesday, Sept. 5.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gore is listed as a 'co-starter' on the Dolphins depth chart with Kenyan Drake. He should get some short-yardage and goal-line work for the Dolphins this week at home against the Titans. We've got him as a deep flex to open the season.

MIA - No WR DeVante Parker on Wednesday

    Source: MiamiDolphins.com - Alain Poupart

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (finger) was unable to practice Wednesday, Sept. 5.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Parker is not going to play in the game against the Titans on Sunday.

CIN - TE Tyler Eifert practices in full

Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Paul Dehner Jr.

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (back) took part in a full practice session Wednesday, Sept. 5.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Just like with Jordan Reed (Washington), Fantasy GMs know that Eifert can be one of the best at his position when healthy...it's just the staying healthy thing that has been a problem for both. Eifert is fully practicing so get him in there while you can. We project him as a TE2 with TE1 upside in Week 1 against the Colts.

NFL - WR Jeremy Maclin plans to play

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Free-agent WR Jeremy Maclin (Ravens) hurt his hamstring while training and is a couple weeks away from being at full health. He did receive offers before training camp and still intends to play this season, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We can't imagine Maclin having much left in the tank. Even when he is healthy and does sign with a new team, we'll keep the veteran on the waiver wire speed dial just in case.

PHI - RB Jay Ajayi will play

    Source: PhiladelphiaEagles.com

Philadelphia Eagles RB Jay Ajayi (foot) was not listed on the Eagles' status report Wednesday, Sept. 5, and will play in Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ajayi was trending this way with his practice participation and now it's officially official. He's set to be the lead back for the Eagles, but Fantasy GMs know that he's going to work in a RBBC. This week against the Falcons, Ajayi can be relied on as a low-end RB2 in PPR leagues.

IND - RB Marlon Mack unlikely to play

Source: The Athletic - Stephen Holder

Updating previous reports, Indianapolis Colts RB Marlon Mack (hamstring) is unlikely to be close to playing in Week 1, in the opinion of beat writer Stephen Holder. Mack is out of practice Wednesday, Sept. 5.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mack would have to practice on Friday in order to play on Sunday. Against the Bengals in Week 1, rookie Jordan Wilkins could be the starter. Wilkins was a popular late-round pick for Fantasy GMs this year, but in his first game we like him more as a RB3 or deep flex play.

MIN - RB Dalvin Cook back to normal

Source: The Athletic - Matt Barrows

Minnesota Vikings RB Dalvin Cook (knee) has regained his foot quickness and acceleration after surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament, according to head coach Mike Zimmer.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Great news for the Vikings and Fantasy GMs who selected Cook in the late first or early second round of fantasy drafts. Cook will be the lead back for the Vikings and should post RB1 numbers on Sunday against the 49ers.

NE - No setbacks for RB Rex Burkhead

    Source: MassLive.com - Andrew Callahan

New England Patriots RB Rex Burkhead (knee) hasn't missed a practice in three consecutive weeks, suggesting he is either making progress from a slight tear in his knee and will be able to play a full complement of snaps in Week 1 against the Houston Texans.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Patriots/Texans game on Sunday might be one of the most exciting and high-scoring contests we see this weekend. That makes Burkhead and intriguing RB2 with upside for Fantasy GMs in PPR leagues.

    Friday Update

PIT - Le'Veon Bell won't have tag rescinded

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell won't have the franchise tag rescinded, according to a source. He'll play for them this year, but it's just a matter of when.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Well, that's no shock. Add in the fact that his offensive line - including the player rep - just threw him under a bus and it will be interesting. Hopefully, you got James Conner. While he's not the back Bell is, he should have some solid production and you know the offensive line will go all out for him to prove their point. He should be good against Cleveland, though not near as good as Bell would be, and is definitely worth having in at least your flex spot. For Bell, there seems to be some optimism he might report before Saturday. Stay tuned.

PIT - Teammates frustrated with Le'Veon Bell

Source: NFL Network - Aditi Kinkhabwala

Pittsburgh Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey voiced frustration over RB Le'Veon Bell's absence after Bell's agent wanted to know the team's plan to use Bell this season. 'Why play hide and seek? Why let your agent say this? Just man up and tell us what you're going to do,' Pouncey said. OT Alejandro Villanueva said: 'teams win and lose as a team.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is unprecedented, and when we write that word, it's not hyperbole. Clearly, the team's been hurt by Bell's lack of communication. Things can change in a hurry though so we'll see how it goes when Bell returns.

OAK - RB Marshawn Lynch limited in practice

Source: Las Vegas Review-Journal - Michael Gehlken

Oakland Raiders RB Marshawn Lynch (groin) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Sept. 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We truly don't know what to expect from Jon Gruden and his Raiders, which makes it a bit dicey to rely on this backfield. Lynch is likely to be the lead back, but we don't think that's going to account for much against a tremendous defense, while the rest of the Oakland offense is forced to keep pace with a Rams offense which can score points early and often.

CLE - WR Josh Gordon limited again

Source: The Chronicle-Telegram - Scott Petrak

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon (hamstring) was limited during practice Thursday, Sept. 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is where missing training camp -- even for good reasons -- oftentimes hurts a player. Conditioning is an important part of camp and preseason, and a lack of it can lead to muscle injuries like this. We feel Gordon will have a good season, but this week, as he is gimpy and the Browns face a good defense, is one where we would avoid him or, at the most, relegate him to a flex option.

LAC - TE Antonio Gates optimistic of playing Sunday

    Source: ESPN.com - Eric D. Williams

Los Angeles Chargers TE Antonio Gates has not ruled out playing in the team's season opener Sunday, Sept. 9. 'I've always been optimistic about playing in a game, whether I was injured or not here -- it didn't matter,' Gates said after practicing for the first time this season Wednesday, Sept. 5. 'So, I think I'm well aware of the preparation that needs to be put in throughout the week to go play a game at the highest level possible. With that being said ... it just depends on how I feel leading up to Sunday.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We wouldn't advise you to risk Gates in your lineup this week. We don't know what shape he's in, how he's practiced or even how mentally prepared he is. Could he have a big game? Sure, but it's more likely that it will take a week or two for him to start producing.

HOU - WR Will Fuller remains limited

    Source: HoustonTexans.com

Houston Texans WR Will Fuller (hamstring) was limited during practice Thursday, Sept. 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

New England's secondary is a good matchup for the Houston passing offense, but Fuller's hamstring is a concern. It's hard to see him generating much more than between 50 and 60 yards, and we think touchdowns could go to DeAndre Hopkins and the backfield. He's a middling start this week, though we like his seasonal upside.

    NE - Sony Michael limited

    Source: Patriots.com

New England Patriots RB Sony Michel (knee) was limited during practice Thursday, Sept. 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Maybe there's some sort of Monkey's Paw type curse for Patriots first round running backs, although to be fair, Laurence Maroney is the only other one to judge by. The Patriots already run a committee most of the time, so Michel was going to have to fight for impact carries anyway. Missing time like this isn't going to help at all. Rex Burkhead is the lead back - maybe that should be in quotes - this week but might be eased in, so he's likely to not be more than a flex. This is probably how things are going to look most weeks -- lots of variance in who is getting the most production and lots of headaches for Fantasy GMs.

NYJ - Full practice for WR Quincy Enunwa

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

New York Jets WR Quincy Enunwa (thumb) fully participated in practice Thursday, Sept. 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Enunwa, like much of the Jets passing offense, isn't anyone you can rely on. We do like him as a deeper option since the offense will utilize the slot receiver quite a bit as rookie quarterback Sam Darnold gets his feet under him.

NYJ - WR Terrelle Pryor takes part in practice

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

New York Jets WR Terrelle Pryor (ankle) fully participated in practice Thursday, Sept. 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pryor isn't a guy we are throwing into the lineup yet but as the Jets lack any real tight end option, he could end up filling that role, especially in the red zone. Rookie quarterback Sam Darnold did seem pretty comfortable with him as well. That presents the possibility that Pryor could end up as a solid flex or WR4 type receiver, especially in touchdown heavy leagues.

NYJ - WR Jermaine Kearse sits out

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

New York Jets WR Jermaine Kearse (abdomen) did not participate in practice Thursday, Sept. 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kearse was already feeling like the odd man out in the Jets lackluster passing offense, and so we weren't very excited by him to begin with. Robby Anderson and Quincy Enunwa will see the most work, but a rookie quarterback and a solid Detroit defense have our expectations pretty low. We would avoid the Jets this week, and certainly for the near future until this offense shows us something.

PIT - No practice for TE Vance McDonald

Source: The Chronicle-Telegram - Scott Petrak

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Vance McDonald (foot) did not participate in practice Thursday, Sept. 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There is no tight end on the roster which we would throw out there this week, healthy or no. Since Heath Miller has departed, the Steelers have not had an even remotely reliable fantasy option.

MIA - WR DeVante Parker remains sidelined

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (finger) did not participate in practice Thursday, Sept. 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Parker continues to underwhelm. Even when he's healthy, he's not very productive and now he's not even healthy. We won't go anywhere near him.

MIA - RB Frank Gore does not practice

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins RB Frank Gore (Achilles', non-injury) did not participate in practice Thursday, Sept. 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gore is old. That doesn't mean we don't think he has anything left in the tank, just that his body doesn't heal like it used to. So the Dolphins will be careful with him in case Kenyan Drake struggles and they need a more even split. As it stands Gore isn't a great start, as he is unlikely to see the field much, so we are avoiding him.

JAX - TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins limited

    Source: Jaguars.com

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins (core) was limited during practice Thursday, Sept. 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We used to call "core" injuries "pulled abdomens" or "bad back." Sefarian-Jenkins is an intriguing addition to this offense but a core injury could keep him off the field completely and limit his effectiveness even when he's active.

CAR - Carolina signs QB Connor Cook

    Source: Panthers.com

Free-agent QB Connor Cook (Raiders) was signed to the Carolina Panthers' practice squad Thursday, Sept. 6. DT Kendrick Norton was released in a corresponding move.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cook has ability, though he was never going to get a chance to show it in Oakland. The situation isn't much better in Carolina, but it's not a bad place for him to develop.

CIN - TE Tyler Eifert a full participant

Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Paul Dehner Jr.

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (back) was full go in practice Thursday, Sept. 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Eifert has burned everyone enough to where the Fantasy world is leery of his charms. We think he should be a decent TE2 this week according to our latest projections, but we don't expect more out of him. The back seems to be a non-issue now, so that's good.

CLE - WR Dez Bryant may be option for CLE again

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Free-agent WR Dez Bryant (Cowboys) may receive interest from the Cleveland Browns again after Week 1 because only 25 percent of his salary would be guaranteed if he was released for some reason, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're not sold that Bryant would add much, if anything, to the mix in Cleveland. Jarvis Landry will get the lion's share of targets and rookie Antonio Callaway along with Josh Gordon will get the rest. There's also tight end David Njoku. Whether quarterback Tyrod Taylor can take advantage or not is another discussion, but if Bryant signs in Cleveland, his impact will be minimal.

IND - RB Marlon Mack on the field Thursday

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Indianapolis Colts RB Marlon Mack (hamstring) is participating in practice Thursday, Sept. 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep an eye on this as Mack is the best option in that backfield. Right now it seems like there will be a RBBC with Jordan Wilkins leading the way. We aren't grabbing anyone in the backfield this weekend unless Mack is there.

MIN - RB Dalvin Cook's usage unclear?

    Source: ESPN.com - Courtney Cronin

Minnesota Vikings RB Dalvin Cook (knee) may or may not be on a snap count this week, according to offensive coordinator John DeFilippo. DeFilippo did say that Cook has proven he can handle a full workload in his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cook is still a dynamic back who we see having a pretty significant impact both this weekend against San Francisco and throughout the season. We see him as a solid back who could nudge up against 100 yards, combined this weekend even on a snap count.

NE - RB Rex Burkhead to be eased in

    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots RB Rex Burkhead (knee) is cleared to play in Week 1, but he's expected to be eased into the mix.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's not much of a shock, given how the Patriots historically use their backs. We think Burkhead will still see enough use to make him a decent low end RB2 option this week, but if you have a healthy option around the same area of production, we might lean that way.

I picked up Mack in several leagues hoping that by mid-year he’s the bell cow back for Indy.

    Saturday Update

JAX - TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins ready to play

    Source: FirstCoastNews.com - Mike Kaye

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins (core) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 7, and is not on the injury report for Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Seferian-Jenkins going off of the injury report is very reassuring and restores his status as a top streaming tight end this week.

NE - Questionable tag for RB Sony Michel

    Source: Patriots.com

New England Patriots RB Sony Michel (knee) was limited during practice Friday, Sept. 7, and is listed as questionable for Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Even if Michel plays, he's unlikely to have a big workload or play an important role in the offense after missing most of training camp and all of the preseason. It should be a Rex Burkhead/James White show in the Patriots backfield against the Texans.

HOU - WR Will Fuller iffy for Week 1

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans WR Will Fuller (hamstring) has been limited all week with a strained hamstring he sustained during the preseason and will be a game-time decision for Week 1 against the New England Patriots.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fuller has a high ceiling against the Patriots, but he also could be limited or re-injure his hamstring in the game. He should probably be on your bench even though he's a top candidate to score a long touchdown this week.

OAK - RB Marshawn Lynch limited again

    Source: Raiders.com

Oakland Raiders RB Marshawn Lynch (groin) was limited during practice Friday, Sept. 7.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lynch has been limited for two straight days. As it was, the matchup wasn't looking great against the Rams Monday night. If he doesn't get a full practice in tomorrow, he should probably be on your bench.

CLE - WR Josh Gordon ready to play

    Source: ClevelandBrowns.com

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon (hamstring) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 7, and is not on the injury report for Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gordon may still split snaps with Antonio Callaway, but this news is what you were looking for if you wanted a reason to start Gordon this week.

ARI - No RB David Johnson deal expected this weekend

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson has had contract extension talks with the Cardinals, but the two sides are not expected to reach an agreement before Week 1, according to sources. Johnson could sign an extension at some point during the season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson could seek more security by getting signed during the season, but he would likely get less than he would if the market sets his price. He is handling his contract situation differently than LeVeon Bell even though he is only getting paid a fraction of Bell's franchise tag salary.

PIT - TE Vance McDonald a no-go for Week 1

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Pittsburgh TE Vance McDonald (foot) has been ruled out for Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McDonald might still be more than a week away from returning after missing all of the preseason. The Steelers have no healthy tight ends, which could mean more targets for Juju Smith-Schuster and James Washington.

PHI - WR Alshon Jeffery a few weeks out

    Source: SI.com - Jenny Vrentas

Philadelphia Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery (shoulder) acknowledged he's still a few weeks out in his return from rotator cuff surgery. He said he has a few more doctor visits, and some days his shoulder feels good and some it doesn't.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jeffery might not be back until Carson Wentz is back. If he is dropped this week out of impatience, do your best to make a spot for him.

SEA - WR Doug Baldwin not on injury report

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin (knee) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 7, and is not on the injury report for Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Baldwin's knee isn't giving him any problems in a great sign for his value at least early in the season. He's still in a very tough matchup against Chris Harris this week, so don't panic if he has a small stat line.

ARI - Arizona works out WR Corey Coleman

    Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates

Free-agent WR Corey Coleman (Bills) worked out for the Arizona Cardinals Friday, Sept. 7, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Coleman could get signed after veteran contract become non-guaranteed after Week 1. The Cardinals could have Coleman push JJ Nelson for the deep ball specialist role.

CIN - TE Tyler Eifert removed from injury report

    Source: Bengals.com - Geoff Hobson

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (back) was able to practice in full Friday, Sept. 7 and he has been removed from the injury report ahead of the Week 1 game with the Indianapolis Colts.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If you're going to start Eifert, you won't have more reason to than this week. He is as healthy as he'll be all season and facing a ragtag group of Colts linebackers.

NYJ - Limited practice for WR Jermaine Kearse

    Source: NewYorkJets.com

New York Jets WR Jermaine Kearse (abdomen) was limited during practice Friday, Sept. 7.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kearse was originally expected to be out this week, but he has a small chance to play. If he's out Quincy Enunwa becomes a better play and Terrelle Pryor will get a better chance to acquit himself after he came into camp still hurting from a second ankle injury.

IND - RB Marlon Mack practices Friday

    Source: IndySportsCentral.com - Mike Chappell

Indianapolis Colts RB Marlon Mack (hamstring) participated in practice Friday, Sept. 7. Mack did not practice Wednesday, Sept. 5, before getting in a limited session Thursday, Sept. 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mack might be able to go against Cincinnati, but the possibility of limited work, limited effectiveness or re-injury makes him a dicey flex play in a rough matchup. The Colts will also likely use more of rookie Jordan Wilkins than usual with Mack coming back from a long layoff.

MIA - WR DeVante Parker dons glove for practice

Source: The Athletic - Chris Perkins

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (finger) participated in practice Friday, Sept. 7, wearing a glove on his right hand, which has a broken finger.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Parker is unlikely to play, and even if he does, he hasn't been creating any momentum this summer. He might not be an essential hold if Albert Wilson plays well vs. Tennessee.

NO - QB Teddy Bridgewater restructures

    Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates

New Orleans Saints QB Teddy Bridgewater restructured his deal Friday, Sept. 7, to create $2.71 million in salary cap space. He converted more than $4 million of his base salary into a signing bonus and added two voidable years to his deal.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The voidable years don't create extra potential for Bridgewater to stay with the team, but they do spread out his cap hit.

Bengals can preserve Eifert's back and keep off injury report if he's not blocking 300+lb linemen.

    Sunday Update

CAR - TE Greg Olsen should play

Source: Charlotte Observer - Joseph Person

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (back) is expected to play despite being listed as questionable, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He's a late add to the injury report, and that's something to monitor. Even with this popping up late in the week, we see Olsen as a low-end TE1 for Fantasy GMs in Week 1.

NYJ - WR Terrelle Pryor off the injury report

    Source: NewYorkJets.com

New York Jets WR Terrelle Pryor (ankle) practiced in full on Saturday, Sept. 8 and he has been removed from the injury report ahead of the Week 1 game with the Detroit Lions.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pryor is trying to have a bounce-back season after a down 2017 in Washington. We'll see him work as the no.3 wide receiver for the Jets behind Robby Anderson and Quincy Enunwa.

NYJ - WR Quincy Enunwa ready for the opener

    Source: NewYorkJets.com

New York Jets WR Quincy Enunwa (thumb) practiced in full for the third consecutive day Friday, Sept. 8 and he was removed from the practice report ahead of the Week 1 game with the Detroit Lions.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for the Jets passing game, especially with Jermaine Kearse (abdomen) doubtful for the season opener. Enunwa will work for targets opposite Robby Anderson on Sunday.

NYJ - WR Jermaine Kearse doubtful for Week 1

    Source: NewYorkJets.com

New York Jets WR Jermaine Kearse (abdomen) was listed as a limited participant in practice Saturday, Sept. 8 and he is considered doubtful for the Week 1 game against the Detroit Lions.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He was limited in practice this week, so we're not shocked with this news. It does seem like Kearse should be on track to play in Week 2.

OAK - RB DeAndre Washington out for Week 1

    Source: Raiders.com

Oakland Raiders RB DeAndre Washington (knee) did not practice for a third straight day on Saturday, Sept. 8 and he has been ruled out for Week 1 against the Los Angeles Rams.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Washington is buried on the Raiders depth chart. Doug Martin is the primary backup to Marshawn Lynch in 2018 and Jalen Richard is behind him. The Raiders go up against the Rams on Monday night and we expect Lynch to put up RB2/flex numbers in Week 1.

OAK - RB Marshawn Lynch ready for Week 1

    Source: Raiders.com

Oakland Raiders RB Marshawn Lynch (groin) was limited in practice Saturday, Sept. 8, but he has been removed from the injury report ahead of the Week 1 game with the Los Angeles Rams.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A good sign for the veteran back. His removal from the injury report makes Lynch a nice RB2 or flex play for Fantasy GMs in Week 1. They play the Rams on Monday night and the Raiders should use Lynch early and often...so long as they don't get blown out.

PIT - RB Stevan Ridley ready if needed

Source: Pittsburgh Tribune-Review - Chris Adamski

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Stevan Ridley said he doesn't know what his exact role will be against the Cleveland Browns in Week 1, but he said he is ready to contribute on any down or on special downs if called upon.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ridley is a seasoned veteran who might just have a bit more left in the tank than most think. With James Conner set to start for the Steelers on Sunday, Ridley might get a few snaps here and there.

NYG - TE Evan Engram has Jackonsville's attention

Source: The Florida Times-Union - Phillip Heilman

New York Giants TE Evan Engram is a 'matchup nightmare,' according to Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone, and Marrone said Engram will need to be accounted for at all times in their Week 1 matchup.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Marrone is correct, Engram is a 'matchup nightmare' due to his athleticism and speed. Engram is a tight end but he basically plays like a super-sized receiver. Even in this game against a tough Jaguars defense, Engram should produce TE1 numbers for Fantasy GMs.

CLE - Best yet to come for QB Tyrod Taylor?

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Dan Labbe

Cleveland Browns QB Tyrod Taylor has been 'all in' since joining the team, according to offensive coordinator Todd Haley, and Haley said he believes the best version of Taylor is still to come.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Taylor has been a good starting quarterback, but we can't imagine him playing so well that he keeps the starting job for the whole season. He might..and likely will...get replaced by 2018 no.1 overall pick Baker Mayfield at some point this season. Even if Taylor is playing well but the team is losing, we all know Mayfield is the future and he'll be taking over eventually.
