NFL Player News - Week of 7/30/18

    Courtesy of Footballguys.com

NYJ - RB Elijah McGuire to miss 3-6 weeks

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Updating previous reports, New York Jets RB Elijah McGuire (foot) will undergo surgery on his broken foot this week and is expected to miss three to six weeks, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McGuire might not end up on injured reserve after all. If this timetable is correct, George Atkinson was signed to be a camp body, not potentially fill part of McGuire's role for the 2018 season.

PHI - QB Carson Wentz cleared for contact

Source: The Philadelphia Inquirer - Jeff McLane

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz (knee) participated in contact drills for the first time during training camp Saturday, July 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wentz is on target to start Week 1. Although he might run less, especially early in the year, he is probably a value at ADP because that reflected the possibility that he wouldn't start the season on time.

CAR - QB Cam Newton feeling good

    Source: Panthers.com

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton said his body 'feels great' after taking the proper steps this offseason to make sure he is fully healthy.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Panthers have added more weapons to the offense over the last two years. That's great news for Newton as most everything in the offense will funnel back to (or go through) him. Newton is a QB1 for Fantasy GMs and going off the board at QB7 (7.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

PIT - WR JuJu Smith-Schuster leaves practice

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Ray Fittipaldo

Pittsburgh Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (undisclosed) was not able to finish practice Sunday, July 29, because of an undisclosed injury but was catching passes after practice.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Smith-Schuster had an injury issue this offseason too so this is something to watch. It doesn't sound serious at all, but this isn't the kind of news you want to hear about a player that you are spending a premium pick on in a fantasy draft.

NYJ - Issues surrounding Sam Darnold's negotiation

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets QB Sam Darnold - the No. 3 overall pick this spring - remains unsigned after the team opened training camp Friday, July 27. While offset language remains an issue, the major sticking point, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini, is default language pertaining to guaranteed money. Under the Jets' proposal, Darnold's entire guarantee - expected to be roughly $30 million over the life of his proposed contract - will void if he's fined by the league for discipline or conduct on or off the field.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team has had a checkered history with Darnold's agent Jimmy Sexton, so this could drag on for a while. The Jets are asking for something Baker Mayfield didn't agree to and unusual for a Top 3 pick, so Darnold might have the better bargaining position here.

MIA - Mike Gesicki 'exactly as advertised'

Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson

Miami Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki received his most extensive first-team work and caught two touchdown passes in practice Sunday, July 29. According to tight ends coach Shane Day, he has been competent as a blocker as well through four days of camp and two days of practicing in upper pads.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Adam Gase made a fantasy star out Julius Thomas in Denver, so the tight end position is one to watch in Miami, although the bar is always very high for rookie tight ends to make a fantasy impact. Gesicki is more of a mid-season waiver wire pickup than a player you draft and stash for the long haul. He does open with Tennessee, the Jets, and Oakland, so Gesicki could get off to a hot start.

DEN - RB job wide open in Denver

Source: USA TODAY Sports - Lindsay H. Jones

Denver Broncos RBs Royce Freeman, Devontae Booker, De'Angelo Henderson and Phillip Lindsay all received first-team reps Sunday, July 29, prompting Lindsay H. Jones of USA TODAY Sports to say the 'running back job is totally open.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lindsay is drawing a lot of praise as a receiver, but he has to keep the momentum going when the intensity turns up later this summer. This isn't going to be one of the most productive backfields in the league and will include 2-3 backs every week, but all of the Broncos backs are modestly priced when looking at their range of outcomes. They have a place in draft plans.

PHI - RB Jay Ajayi wants to show his stuff

    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

Philadelphia Eagles RB Jay Ajayi said he feels like people have forgotten about the type of running back he can be. 'I'm ready to showcase again to the world who I am as a running back,' Ajayi said. 'Especially given the role that I should be in this year and what they're saying.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If the Eagles give Ajayi the kind of workload the Dolphins did two years ago, he could be one of the best values at running back, but they have Corey Clement and Darren Sproles, so that's probably not going to happen. Still, if he collects most of the rushing scores and gets to close out wins, Ajayi might still make anyone who drafted him very happy.

WAS - TE Jordan Reed running routes

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (toes) ran routes in 7-on-7 drills Saturday, July 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Each day that Reed's practice reports are unremarkable is a good one for his fantasy stock. Alex Smith made the most out of Travis Kelce and he should be able to do the same with Reed as long as he stays healthy.

BUF - QB AJ McCarron too conservative

    Source: WKBW.com - Joe Buscaglia

Buffalo Bills QB AJ McCarron has been unwilling to take chances and has been holding the ball too long during training camp, according to Joe Buscaglia of WKBW.com, and Buscaglia believes McCarron could cost himself the starting job if he doesn't improve.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCarron isn't the quarterback of the future for the Bills (that's rookie Josh Allen), and he may not be the quarterback of the now if he doesn't show better in training camp. Outside of LeSean McCoy, Fantasy GMs aren't likely to get much production from other pieces of the Bills offense.

BUF - Josh Allen the best QB in Buffalo?

    Source: WKBW.com - Joe Buscaglia

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen has been the best quarterback thus far during training camp, according to Joe Buscaglia of WKBW.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Allen's arm certainly has been impressive. That's not the only thing he needs to win the job, and Allen had accuracy issues in college (56.0 percent passer) at Wyoming that need to be improved. Allen is the quarterback of the future, and going up against guys like A.J. McCarron and Nathan Peterman...they may just get to Allen as soon as possible.

BAL - WR John Brown keeps impressing

Source: The Athletic - Jeff Zrebiec

Baltimore Ravens WR John Brown continued to 'stand out' among the receivers during practice Saturday, July 28, according to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

When Brown is healthy, there's no doubt he can make plays. The Ravens have revamped their WR corps this offseason, going to free agency for the likes of Brown, Michael Crabtee and Willie Snead. The only Ravens WR Fantasy GMs are drafting is Crabtree, currently going off the board at WR28 (6.05) in 12-team PPR leagues. If Brown impresses in training camp and the preseason, keep him on your waiver wire speed dial in deeper leagues.

NE - RB Mike Gillislee may return Monday

Source: The Athletic - Jeff Howe

New England Patriots RB Mike Gillislee (undisclosed) did not participate in practice Sunday, July 29, but could return to practice as early as Monday, July 30, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gillislee, Jeremy Hill, and undrafted free agent Ralph Webb are battling one potential roster spot as the #4 back, that is if the Patriots choose to keep four in addition to special teams ace Brandon Bolden.

NE - WR Jordan Matthews unable to finish practice

Source: The Athletic - Jeff Howe

New England Patriots WR Jordan Matthews (hamstring) left practice early Sunday, July 29, because of a hamstring injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It doesn't appear to be serious but in the free for all for Patriots wide receiver roster spots, a player can't afford to give up any ground. Matthews isn't a lock for the roster, so he'll need to get back on the field soon.

MIA - TE A.J. Derby sits out

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins TE A.J. Derby (foot) did not participate in practice Sunday, July 29, because of a foot injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Derby is one of the main obstacles between second-round pick Mike Gesicki and playing time and targets. If this is a lingering injury, it could give the rookie a chance to build momentum with the first team.

TEN - Tennessee not looking at WR Dez Bryant

Source: NFL Network - Omar Ruiz

Free-agent WR Dez Bryant (Cowboys) is not an option for the Tennessee Titans at this time even though WR Rishard Matthews (undisclosed) is dealing with an injury, according to a source. The Titans could show interest in Bryant down the road.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This can be spun as good news on Matthews' injury, but Bryant's locker room reputation isn't spotless and that could raise the desperation bar for signing him. It's also possible that they don't want to make any moves until they can see if Matthews is ready to return and has an uneventful return during camp or the preseason.

PIT - TE Vance McDonald injured Sunday

Source: The Athletic - Mark Kaboly

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Vance McDonald (foot) was carted off the field toward the end of practice with a foot injury Sunday, July 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Let's not move on from Jesse James quite yet. The team reportedly envisioned a bigger role for McDonald this year after he caught ten passes in the playoff loss to Jacksonville. This could also open up more opportunity for Eli Rogers or James Washington if it's serious, especially with Juju Smith-Schuster also dealing with an undisclosed injury.

SF - Dante Pettis standing out

    Source: 49ers.com - Joe Fann

San Francisco 49ers WR Dante Pettis is 'starting to stack good practices together' and 'smooth in and out of his breaks,' according to Joe Fann of 49ers.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Trent Taylor being on the PUP is opening up a chance for Pettis to make an impression and he's taking advantage of it. At this rate, he'll be a hot late round sleeper by mid-August.

OAK - RB Jalen Richard diagnosed with calf strain

Source: The Athletic - Vic Tafur

Updating an earlier report, Oakland Raiders RB Jalen Richard (calf) exited practice with a calf strain Sunday, July 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team may sign another back and this certainly gives DeAndre Washington a leg up over Richard to make the team as the third back. Richard has been explosive in limited work and if the Raiders release him, he could find greener pastures elsewhere once healthy.

DEN - WR Demaryius Thomas moving around

Source: USA TODAY Sports - Lindsay H. Jones

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas is 'working everywhere, including as the Z receiver for the first time,' according to Lindsay H. Jones of USA TODAY.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thomas has been a little banged up this spring, but he appears to be healthy and no Broncos player is poised to benefit more from the upgrade to Case Keenum at quarterback than Thomas. He's a high floor, safe pick at ADP.

WAS - WR Josh Doctson a weapon in the red zone

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins WR Josh Doctson will be 'most dangerous' in the red zone, according to head coach Jay Gruden, but Gruden said Doctson will have a hard time putting up big numbers overall because the offense spreads the ball around.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Doctson is set for a breakout season and working to become a favorite target of QB Alex Smith. Fantasy GMs are drafting him at WR56 (12.08) in 12-team PPR leagues.

It's laughable how Dez Bryant is lashing out at the Cowboys and ex-teammates on social media all whilst trying to secure a job for the upcoming season. He's too dumb too realize that he isn't doing himself any favors.

    Tuesday Update

MIN - RB Dalvin Cook feels ahead of schedule

Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Andrew Krammer

Minnesota Vikings RB Dalvin Cook (knee) said he feels ahead of schedule in his return from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

From all outward signs, Cook is safe to draft at ADP despite tearing his ACL last year. We'll feel 100% beyond the injury once we see him in preseason action.

IND - QB Andrew Luck delivers in pads

Source: 1070 The Fan - Kevin Bowen

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (shoulder) took part in his first padded practice since 2016, completing 12 of his 14 pass attempts in 11-on-11 drills during training camp Sunday, July 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We can dispose of the worst case scenarios that had Luck's Week 1 status up in the air as long as he doesn't have a setback. We're still hoping for Luck to at least play in the third preseason game to see him in live action, but things have gone well enough to justify the risk at ADP that goes along with the considerable possible reward in Luck's outlook.

MIA - WR DeVante Parker off to slow start

Source: The Miami Herald - Adam H. Beasley

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker has not been able to do much in training camp so far while being shadowed by CB Xavien Howard. Parker's ineffectiveness has been mostly noticeable in team drills, according to The Miami Herald's Adam Beasley.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Every year Parker is touted as a potential breakout player then he ends up disappointing in some form or fashion. The Dolphins are looking for Parker (or someone) to emerge as their no1 WR since trading away Jarvis Landry to the Browns. Parker is a player we're fine letting other Fantasy GMs draft. He's got a current ADP of WR38 (8.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

GB - RB Aaron Jones expects to return this week

Source: The Athletic - Michael Cohen

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones (hamstring) said his injured hamstring is feeling good and expects to return to the practice field by Thursday, Aug. 2. He said he could play if the team had a game today.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones is in a battle to be the starting back for the Packers. Some around the team (beat writers, bloggers) feel that Jones could be the lead back. He arguably has the most well-rounded skill set of the group competing for the top spot. Jones is competing with power back Jamaal Williams and converted receiver Ty Montgomery for the starting job.

CIN - TE Tyler Eifert passes physical

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (back) passed his physical Monday, July 30, and has been activated from the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Well that didn't take long. Eifert was on the PUP list at the start of training camp but here we are less than a week later and he's now good to go. Eifert is a TD hog when healthy, but he hasn't been a fantasy force since 2015. The talent is there, so if healthy Eifert could easily outperform his ADP of TE14 (13.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

GB - QB Aaron Rodgers struggling with INTs

Source: The Athletic - Michael Cohen

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers threw three interceptions during practice Monday, July 30, and has thrown seven interceptions since training camp began.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rodgers is taking some chances with the football (obviously) during this early portion of camp. It's worth monitoring but we're not in panic mode about this. Rodgers is getting used to some new receivers for the 2018 season and you've got to break a few eggs to make an omelet. He hasn't thrown double-digit picks since 2010.

NYJ - Sam Darnold agrees to deal

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

New York Jets first-round draft choice QB Sam Darnold agreed to terms on a four-year deal with the Jets Monday, July 30, worth $30.25 million, according to a source. The deal includes a fifth-year option.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This somewhat pointless holdout is over. Darnold didn't miss significant time and should be given a chance to win the starting job this summer, although the team should err on the side of taking it slow with him.

NYG - TE Evan Engram seen as three-down TE

Source: New York Post - Paul Schwartz

New York Giants TE Evan Engram should be considered a three-down tight end, according to head coach Pat Shurmur.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Engram has been working as an outside receiver at times, and it appears that he'll get enough targets to maintain his production level from last year even with the return of Odell Beckham. He's a consideration as high as TE4 and could finish higher.

CLE - WR Dez Bryant not scheduled to meet with CLE

Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafolo

Free-agent WR Dez Bryant (Cowboys) is still talking with the Cleveland Browns, but the two sides have not scheduled a meeting at this point.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This could be a good sign for Josh Gordon, but at first glance, the main takeaway here is that Bryant isn't exactly making teams anxious to sign him. Bryant is arguably not worth a pick in shallow redraft leagues right now.

LAC - Three TEs working with starters

    Source: ESPN.com - Eric D. Williams

Los Angeles Chargers TEs Virgil Green, Sean Culkin and Braedon Bowman have all received snaps with the first-team offense during training camp. The team has also been running a lot of three-receiver sets during practice.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Chargers will likely employ a committee at tight end with no clear fantasy play if they don't sign Antonio Gates. If they do, Gates will have some late round appeal. Either way, more three-wide sets is in store for this offense, which is good news for the value of Tyrell Williams and Mike Williams, and it gives Travis Benjamin a potential path to value, especially in best ball leagues.

DET - RB LeGarrette Blount back on field

Source: The Detroit News - Justin Rogers

Detroit Lions RB LeGarrette Blount (undisclosed) participated in practice Monday, July 30, after leaving practice early Sunday, July 29, because of an undisclosed injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

His situation and value are unchanged after the injury scare.

TEN - WR Rishard Matthews to PUP

    Source: TitansOnline.com - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans WR Rishard Matthews (undisclosed) was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Monday, July 30, and will not practice.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It was originally thought Matthews injury wasn't serious enough to send him to the PUP, but now that has changed. The injury was an issue for at least two months before camp opened, so this is starting to cast a shadow on Matthews' value and make Corey Davis, Delanie Walker and Taywan Taylor a lot more interesting in drafts.

CAR - WR Curtis Samuel working hard

Source: NFL Network - Tiffany Blackmon

Carolina Panthers WR Curtis Samuel (ankle) has been working out hard to see how he handles it, according to head coach Ron Rivera. 'So far, so good,' Rivera said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Samuel could be a PUP or injured reserve candidate if his ankle is slow to respond. The addition of DJ Moore and Torrey Smith and presence of Damiere Byrd gives the team players to replace all of the elements that Samuel could add to the offense in his second year.

CLE - TE David Njoku struggles with drops

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns TE David Njoku had four drops during drills at training camp Sunday, July 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Njoku is one of the most impressive tight ends in the league physically, but his skillset needs refinement. He could still be relevant this year with some bumps in the road if Josh Gordon doesn't play a big role. We'll be monitoring his training camp and preseason to see if the arrow is pointing up by December.

SEA - Specific role for RB C.J. Prosise

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks RB C.J. Prosise worked with the first-team offense during the two-minute drill during training camp Sunday, July 29, and Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times believes Prosise will likely have the same role when the season begins.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The starting job for the Seahawks is up for grabs, and if Prosise stays healthy he's their best passing down back. This could affect the value of Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny if Prosise finally stays on the field for an extended time.

    Wednesday Update

SEA - WR Doug Baldwin has sore knee

    Source: ESPN.com - Brady Henderson

Seattle Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin (knee) will miss a few weeks due to a sore knee, according to head coach Pete Carroll. 'It's a little bit of a problem,' Carroll said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Baldwin's knee problem has been lingering for a bit since Carroll also said the veteran has been 'a little bit off.' The way they're handling this injury is considered maintenance as the team is being cautious. Baldwin will miss a few weeks and his status for Week 1 against the Broncos is unknown at this time.

NO - WR Michael Floyd signed by Saints

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Free-agent WR Michael Floyd (Vikings) was signed to an undisclosed deal by the New Orleans Saints Tuesday, July 31, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's been quite some time since Floyd has been fantasy relevant. Injuries and off-field issues have plagued him recently but landing with the Saints is interesting...even though he's no lock for the 53-man roster.

DEN - QB Case Keenum lauded by coach

Source: NFL Network - James Palmer

Denver Broncos QB Case Keenum is better now than he was last year, according to head coach Vance Joseph. Joseph cited Keenum's accuracy, command, smarts and feel for the game as defining qualities.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keenum has looked really good in Broncos training camp so far. He has strong chemistry with all of his top targets, but he's especially showing a connection with Emmanuel Sanders. Keenum has hit Sanders on quite a few deep touchdowns over the last few days. We'll see if that connection can continue during the preseason and into the regular season. Keenum is a safe QB2 for Fantasy GMs.

WAS - Derrius Guice making impression

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice has already been praised by the coaching staff for his involvement in meetings and his aggression on field. Guice has been working to improve his pass protection and trying to solidify his technique so as not to overcommit on a block.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Guice is a tremendously talented runner with power and speed. He can easily be the lead back for Washington and has RB2 value for Fantasy GMs with that size of role. Guice will need to prove that he can protect the QB if he's going to get on the field as the primary back. Chris Thompson will continue to serve as Washington's change-of-pace back.

BUF - WR Zay Jones to be limited early

    Source: WKBW.com - Joe Buscaglia

Buffalo Bills WR Zay Jones (knee) will be eased back into practice once he is activated from the Active/Non-Football Injury list, according to head coach Sean McDermott.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A second-round pick out of East Carolina in 2017, Jones had a horrible rookie season with just 27 catches (on 74 targets) as a rookie. He's hoping for a bounce-back year in 2018 but Jones is going to attempt to do that coming back from offseason knee surgery. We're not interested in him for redraft leagues and even Fantasy GMs in dynasty leagues are not hot on Jones stock.

BAL - WR Michael Crabtree seeing action in red zone

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Baltimore Ravens WR Michael Crabtree has been 'a popular target' for Joe Flacco in red zone drill this summer, according to ESPN's Jamison Hensley.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Crabtree has a great catch radius and he is effective in close quarters on contested balls. He is as good a bet as any to lead the team in receiving touchdowns this year. Flacco did well with a similar receiver in Anquan Boldin, although they didn't click as a red zone combo.

PHI - QB Carson Wentz working on side

    Source: ESPN.com - Tim McManus

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz (knee) was limited to work on the side Tuesday, July 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wentz still appears to be ahead of schedule from the multiple ligament injury recovery. Chances are better than not that he'll start Week 1 against Atlanta.

MIN - WR Stefon Diggs terms

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating an earlier report, Minnesota Vikings WR Stefon Diggs' five-year deal is worth $72 million with $40 million guaranteed. The deal is worth a maximum of $81 million.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Vikings appear to be having no problems locking up players long term even after taking on Kirk Cousins fully guaranteed contract. Diggs price will only go up in an annually wide receiver hungry free agent market, so this is smart.

WAS - RB Chris Thompson waiting for full recovery

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (leg) said he won't be fully recovered from his broken fibula until November - a whole year after suffering the injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thompson avoided the PUP list to start camp and he's slowly getting worked back into the mix. The starting running back in Washington may have changed to rookie Derrius Guice but Thompson should still be relied on as the primary pass-catching back. He's got plenty of flex appeal in PPR leagues and a current ADP of RB35 (7.11) in 12-team formats.

NE - Eric Decker worked out for Pats

    Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates

Free-agent WR Eric Decker (Titans) worked out for the New England Patriots Monday, July 30, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Decker didn't do much last year in his one season with the Titans and he's no longer the same player he used to be. The veteran was drafted by Pats OC Josh McDaniels (back when he was the head coach of the Broncos in 2010) and Decker has previously stated that he would love to play for the Patriots. They could be updating their emergency list or they could have real interest in adding Decker. Stay tuned.

PIT - WR JuJu Smith-Schuster should be fine

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (undisclosed) is dealing with an undisclosed injury, but head coach Mike Tomlin said Smith-Schuster is considered day-to-day.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He was limited in OTAs and minicamp earlier this year with a knee injury. That was lingering then and could still be a minor issue now. Watch his progress as training camp continues. Smith-Schuster has a current ADP of WR19 (4.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

    Thursday Update

SEA - WR Doug Baldwin may miss preseason

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Seattle Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin (knee) could be forced to miss most, if not all, of the preseason due to his knee issue.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep an eye on any news tidbit that comes out about Baldwin between now and the start of the regular season. Doctors are hopeful and confident that he will be able to return for Week 1, according to sources in this report.

NE - WR Jordan Matthews lands on IR

    Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport

Updating a previous report, the New England Patriots placed WR Jordan Matthews (hamstring) on the Reserve/Injured list on Wednesday, Aug. 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Matthews is reported to have a significant hamstring injury. This should prompt the Patriots to add another WR to the mix for the rest of camp.

NYJ - QB Teddy Bridgewater works with starters

    Source: SNY.tv - Connor Hughes

New York Jets QB Teddy Bridgewater saw some time with the starting offense in practice Wednesday, Aug. 1, including work in the two-minute offense.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bridgewater is competing for the starting job with the Jets, so working with the 1s is not a big deal. We'll see if he can win the job for now or if the team ends up shipping him off to another team. Everyone knows that rookie Sam Darnold is the quarterback of the future for the Jets and Bridgewater is only on a one-year deal.

PIT - WR Antonio Brown misses practice

Source: Pittsburgh Tribune-Review - Mark Kaboly

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown (undisclosed) miss practice Wednesday, Aug. 1, due to an undisclosed injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No word on what this is, so there's no need to do anything but monitor Steelers camp for further reports.

KC - Patrick Mahomes mistake-prone early on

    Source: ESPN.com - Adam Teicher

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes made a handful of miscues in practice again Wednesday, Aug. 1, and he now has seven interceptions through six camp practices. 'He had a few hiccups today,' offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy said. 'But that's a part of the process. When you're young you need those hiccups because they become valuable lessons.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's something to monitor but this is not out of the blue. A second-year quarterback learning from a new offensive coordinator is going to make those mistakes. Mahomes is an exciting young quarterback and his rushing ability makes him an intriguing fantasy asset as a QB2 in 2018. He currently is going off the board at QB15 (11.01) in 12-team PPR leagues.

NYJ - WR Quincy Enunwa dealing with new injury

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets WR Quincy Enunwa (undisclosed) suffered an undisclosed injury Tuesday, July 31, and did not participate in practice Wednesday, Aug. 1, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Enunwa was a player on the rise in 2016 when he caught 58 passes for 857 yards but a neck injury caused him to miss the 2017 season. Enunwa's new injury is not related to the neck injury that caused him to miss last season.

BUF - WR Rod Streater works with starters

    Source: WKBW.com - Joe Buscaglia

Buffalo Bills WR Rod Streater worked with the first-team offense during practice Wednesday, Aug. 1, because WR Andre Holmes (undisclosed) was sidelined for most of practice.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll monitor the Bills WR corps in dynasty leagues but re-draft Fantasy GMs should be looking elsewhere for late-round punch at the position. Streater saw time as an outside receiver and a slot receiver during practice.

CLE - TE David Njoku improving in other areas

Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich

Cleveland Browns TE David Njoku continues to be plagued by dropped passes early in training camp, but QB Tyrod Taylor said the tight end has been better in run blocking. Njoku attributed the improvement to added weight and strength during the offseason.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Njoku will have to cut down the drops if he wants to be a trusted target for his quarterback...whether that's Tyrod Taylor or Baker Mayfield. The second-year pro is an interesting prospect due to his size/speed combination but he'll need to become more consistent to be a reliable fantasy asset.

NYJ - RB Isaiah Crowell showing off his hands

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

New York Jets RB Isaiah Crowell was being used more as a pass catcher in practice Wednesday, Aug. 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Crowell should be the lead ball carrier for the Jets in 2018 but the primary pass catching back should be Bilal Powell. If Crowell continues to show well as a receiver the team might use him a bit more in that capacity. He did have 40 catches in a single season (2016) back when he was with the Browns.

NYG - WR Cody Latimer takes part in drills

Source: The Bergen Record - Art Stapleton

New York Giants WR Cody Latimer (quadriceps) was able to participate in individual drills at training camp Wednesday, Aug. 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Latimer has physical potential but he never produced much as a receiver with the Broncos. Now with a new team, Latimer needs to stay healthy to showcase what he could do opposite Odell Beckham Jr. in the Giants offense.

WAS - WR Josh Doctson exits with injury

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins WR Josh Doctson (arm) left practice Wednesday, Aug. 1, with a left arm injury after hitting the ground hard on a catch attempt in the end zone.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Doctson has had a string of injuries that have kept him from having the impact in his first two years that Washington was looking for when they drafted him in the first round in 2016. Hopefully, this is just a scare. Brian Quick might be poised to benefit the most if Doctson misses time.

DEN - TE Jake Butt practices in pads

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Curtis Crabtree

Denver Broncos TE Jake Butt (knee) participated in a pads-on practice Tuesday, July 31; it was the first time Butt had worn pads since tearing his ACL during the Orange Bowl on Dec. 30, 2016.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Butt is a deep sleeper at tight end. Austin Traylor actually might end up being his best competition for targets, with rookie Troy Fumagalli and slow-developing 2015 third-rounder Jeff Heuerman also in the mix. None of them are worth drafting, but Butt has the best chance of being relevant in 2018.

DAL - WR Cole Beasley could play outside more

Source: The Athletic - Calvin Watkins

Dallas Cowboys WR Cole Beasley appears to be in the conversation to work outside more often this season after spending the majority of his career in the slot, according to comments head coach Jason Garrett recently made to The Athletic's Calvin Watkins.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This could be a move to accommodate Allen Hurns penchant for playing in the slot, or perhaps just an attempt to get more value out of Beasley. Beasley doesn't seem to have the skillset to add a lot outside, so this doesn't really change his outlook for the better.

    Friday Update

PIT - WR Antonio Brown should return soon

Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Michael David Smith

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown (quadriceps) is dealing with a strained quadriceps but is expected to return to practice in a few days, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That wasn't wind you just heard, but the sigh of relief from the greater Pittsburgh area, as well as our own Cecil Lammey and Sigmund Bloom plus about a million Fantasy GMs. Cancel red alert, and return your tray tables to their relaxed position, Brown look like he's going to be fine and remain the top wide receiver pick for most fantasy drafts.

NE - WR Eric Decker joining Patriots

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Free-agent WR Eric Decker (Titans) is expected to sign a one-year deal with the New England Patriots Thursday, Aug. 2, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Decker was terrible with the Tennessee Titans last season and while we always give Bill Belichick the benefit of the doubt when it comes to revitalizing a player's career, he just didn't look like the player who had 1,000 yards in 2015. That said, Julian Edelman is suspended to start the season, and outside of Chris Hogan and Rob Gronkowski, targets are up for grabs. We'll keep an eye on Decker and could be more interested once we've seen him at practice.

NYG - Odell Beckham contract talks open

    Source: ESPN.com - Jordan Raanan

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. opened contract talks with the team earlier this week, according to a source. His attendance to offseason workouts, organized team activities and minicamps did not go unnoticed by the organization.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We still think they won't ink a deal until he has played a game or two, but this will get done and Beckham will continue to be the top-end WR1 we have seen in the past. The return from injury was a concern, but so far he has looked outstanding in training camp, so we aren't terribly concerned. He is going as the third receiver in early drafts and eleventh overall player, and we can't see a reason why he shouldn't produce numbers to support that.

OAK - WR Jordy Nelson proving himself

Source: Las Vegas Review-Journal - Michael Gehlken

Oakland Raiders WR Jordy Nelson has been moving well, running polished routes and showing leadership in training camp. He is also developing good timing with QB Derek Carr.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It was interesting that the Packers cut bait after what amounted to one bad season, but that might work out for Oakland. Sure, there is risk due to his 33 years, but the move inside could help. If he can bounce back, Carr and Amari Cooper will both benefit. His current ADP of 44th receiver off the board is about where he should be right now, but he could end up surpassing that.

DEN - QB Case Keenum mistake-free

Source: The Denver Post - Ryan O'Halloran

Denver Broncos QB Case Keenum hasn't thrown an interception in the first five days of practice.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Meanwhile, Aaron Rodgers has thrown seven. So has Pat Mahomes. All of which is a reminder that interceptions in practice -- or a lack of them -- isn't something to get hung up about. No interceptions is always better, but not an indication of what to expect in the season. Of course, Broncos fans are excited in part because last season's quarterbacks put the "aw" in "awful" but Fantasy GMs should remain wary. Keenum's quarterback ADP is 25 right now, and that's about where we see him ending up at the end of the year.

ARI - Chase Edmonds at RB2?

Source: The Arizona Republic - Katherine Fitzgerald

Arizona Cardinals RB Chase Edmonds is looking like the favorite to be the No. 2 running back behind RB David Johnson, according to beat writer Katherine Fitzgerald. Edmonds has seen a lot of work with the first- and second-team offenses. 'The one thing with Chase, great patience. You saw it today,' head coach Steve Wilks said. 'He's just really savvy, just really allowing his blocks to set up, and he has tremendous speed once he gets to the second level.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Unless David Johnson gets hurt again, the number two back in Arizona will have little value. That said, Edmonds has long been viewed around these parts as a natural Johnson handcuff and his pass-catching ability gives him a little extra something over the other backs. He can also run the ball well between the tackles. If Johnson gets hurt or his production flags, Edmonds will see more time than anyone else. He's going as the 75th back off the board and that ADP sounds about right for a David Johnson handcuff.

CIN - WR Brandon LaFell cut

Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafolo

Cincinnati Bengals WR Brandon LaFell was granted his release Thursday, Aug. 2, according to his agent, Jonathan Feinsod.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

LaFell couldn't stick in a group who, aside from A.J. Green, really isn't impressive. We can't see him having much of a role anywhere else even if he gets a job. He's not worth rostering.

BUF - QB AJ McCarron with first-team again

    Source: WKBW.com - Joe Buscaglia

Buffalo Bills QB AJ McCarron is working with the first-team offense for the second day in a row Thursday, Aug. 2. It's the first time any of the quarterbacks have worked with the first-team on consecutive days.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There's almost as little information about what McCarron brings to the table as a starter as there is about Josh Allen. We just don't know what to expect. Add in a shaky pass-blocking line, very few reliable pass catchers and an offense which has thrown less pass attempts over the last few years than most teams while running more than almost anyone and we see a recipe for lackluster fantasy production. We're mostly shying away from the Bills quarterback position.

NYJ - WR Quincy Enunwa out at least one week

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

New York Jets WR Quincy Enunwa (thumb) is expected to miss one to two weeks because of a thumb injury, according sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This shouldn't impact Enunwa a ton, but it's a crowded field at receiver for the Jets and coming off a lost season, also due to injury, he needs to be on the field sooner than later. We are generally avoiding this passing offense this year, though Enunwa could have some value as a low-end PPR option. We need to see more before we buy in, however.

PHI - Richard Rodgers injured Thursday

Source: The Philadelphia Inquirer - Zach Berman

Philadelphia Eagles TE Richard Rodgers (arm) was not able to finish practice Thursday, Aug. 2, because of an apparent wrist or arm injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Stuck behind Zach Ertz and with rookie Dallas Goedert in his rear view mirror, Rodgers already doesn't move the needle much for fantasy purposes. This injury can only make things worse and let Goedert have a chance to catch him.

    DEN - Courtland Sutton ascending

Source: The Denver Post - Ryan O'Halloran

Denver Broncos WR Courtland Sutton has made plays in every situation, and the team could be committing to three-receiver sets to keep him in the fold.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sutton has a nice side/speed combo and a basketball background, which has shown on the practice field so far. The idea is he will take over for Demaryius Thomas at some point, but it seems like the team wants them both on the field at the same time. We don't see him as a guy having a massive fantasy impact this season, but he is someone to watch.

CIN - WR Tyler Boyd in line to start?

    Source: USA TODAY Fantasy Sports

Cincinnati Bengals WR Tyler Boyd could be in line to start opposite of WR A.J. Green after WR Brandon LaFell was released Thursday, Aug. 2.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Boyd now becomes an intriguing player who is going undrafted in early leagues. We don't know what to expect from this offense and Boyd is coming off a season where he went backwards following a nice rookie year. We don't think he's worth having on a redraft roster just yet, but flag him for consideration as we move through preseason.

JAX - Jacksonville's top four WRs set?

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike DiRocco

Jacksonville Jaguars WRs Marqise Lee, Donte Moncrief, Keelan Cole and DJ Chark are set atop the team's receiver depth chart with WR Dede Westbrook the front runner for the No. 5 spot, according to ESPN's Michael DiRocco.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The biggest question here is really what happens with Blake Bortles. While he had some really nice moments in 2017, his production continues to drop, though his completion percentage improved over previous numbers. How he goes will directly impact his receivers. Right now, even assumed No. 1 Marqise Lee is suffering from a mediocre ADP of 51st receiver overall. Now, Lee is battling a shoulder injury, but he has the ability to be higher. The wide receiver group lacks the ability (in Lee's case) or the experience (in the case of DJ Chark) compared to what Allen Hurns and Allen Robinson brought to the team.

    Saturday Update

SEA - WR Doug Baldwin should be ready for Week 1

    Source: Seahawks.com - John Boyle

Seattle Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin (knee) is in no danger of missing the regular-season opener against the Denver Broncos on Sept. 9, according to head coach Pete Carroll.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's reassuring, but Baldwin sitting through camp and most if not all of the preseason indicates that something isn't right, and as the season goes on, it could become a problem that limits his effectiveness, if not sidelines him again. It's difficult to be excited about drafting Baldwin in the third round with thing marring his outlook.

IND - QB Andrew Luck to play in preseason opener

    Source: SI.com - Albert Breer

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck is expected to play with the starters for about a quarter in the preseason opener versus the Seattle Seahawks, according to head coach Frank Reich.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is much better than anyone would have projected when Luck wasn't throwing a regulation football yet in the spring. If he doesn't have any setbacks, Luck should be good to go for Week 1 against Cincinnati and he's looking like a value at his current ADP.

PHI - QB Carson Wentz still out of team reps

Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafolo

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz (knee) remains out of 11-on-11 drills Friday, Aug. 3, as the team wants him in more controlled environments. It's the fifth day in a row he has been limited.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wentz appeared to have fewer limitations earlier in camp. Hopefully this isn't a sign of a setback. The team and Wentz hasn't said anything that indicates that it is, or that this wasn't part of the plan. We'll monitor this closely.

NE - WR Kenny Britt takes part in practice

    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

New England Patriots WR Kenny Britt (hamstring) passed his physical Friday, Aug. 3, and participated in practice. He started the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Britt has an opportunity to win the #2 outside receiver job and maybe even have fantasy relevance while Julian Edelman is out.

DET - RB Ameer Abdullah standing out

Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah has caught the eye of OG T.J. Lang, who told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero that Abdullah has been the most impressive running back in camp so far.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Abdullah and Theo Riddick are probably battling for snaps and touches in the Detroit offense, which means it's possible that neither are worth a roster spot in fantasy leagues this year without injury striking the Lions backfield. Abdullah is still worth holding in dynasty leagues in the hopes that next year his second team will use him more effectively.

NE - RB Jeremy Hill in position to make team

    Source: NESN.com - Doug Kyed

New England Patriots RB Jeremy Hill is more likely to make the team as the final running back over RB Mike Gillislee (undisclosed) due to durability concerns, according to NESN's Doug Kyed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gillislee also failed last year in the role that he's trying to win. Sony Michel, James White, and Rex Burkhead's value would be better off if neither makes the team. If Hill does make the team, he'll have matchup value in deep leagues, assuming he gets the majority of the goal line carries - which was a strength of his game in Cincinnati.

DEN - QB Paxton Lynch, Chad Kelly struggling?

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeff Legwold

The Denver Broncos could look into signing a veteran backup if QBs Paxton Lynch and Chad Kelly don't start showing more in training camp, according to ESPN's Jeff Legwold.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lynch hasn't developed after being a first round pick, and Kelly looks like a Mr. Irrelevant in his first healthy camp. The Broncos aren't the only team in need of an upgrade at backup quarterback.

PHI - Dallas Goedert keeps shining in red zone

Source: NBC Sports Philadelphia - Reuben Frank

Philadelphia Eagles TE Dallas Goedert appears ready to make an 'enormous impact in the red zone,' according to Reuben Frank of NBC Sports Philadelphia.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This could hurt Zach Ertz's chances of reproducing his 2017 because it was built on a spike in touchdowns with the same yards and catches he usually posts. Goedert could even be the rare fantasy impact rookie tight end if Ertz misses time.

JAX - RB Leonard Fournette in better condition

    Source: Jaguars.com - John Oehser

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette said he is already feeling the benefits of playing lighter and showing more consistent burst.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That should keep him producing all through the playoffs this year. Fournette is rated as one of the top running backs for the season and is going off the board in the top ten for fantasy drafts. We expect a very productive year from him.

CLE - WR Jarvis Landry the top target

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns WR Jarvis Landry has become the 'go-to guy' for QB Tyrod Taylor, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, and Cabot said Landry has had an 'amazing' training camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Josh Gordon is not in camp and Corey Coleman has a lot to prove, and those two factors, along with the money they paid Landry all point towards this. We expect Taylor to be solid, if unspectacular, and Landry should benefit. He's currently going off the board as the 25th receiver, and we think he could be a value at that price. The Browns won't be the Greatest Show on Turf or anything, but people may be overlooking the fantasy value this unit has the potential for.

SEA - WR Brandon Marshall a full go

    Source: Seahawks.com - John Boyle

Seattle Seahawks WR Brandon Marshall (hamstring) participated in team drills Thursday, Aug. 2, for the first time since training camp began. 'I'm still trying to get there in midseason form,' Marshall said. 'I have time, but today felt good and it reminded me that I can play some ball.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With Doug Baldwin out, Marshall could be a factor, but he fell off the map even before he was injured last season. We're not excited about much in this offense beyond Baldwin or Russell Wilson, and Marshall is no different. Consider him as no more than a flier.

HOU - WR Braxton Miller making progress

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans WR Braxton Miller has made a lot of progress at receiver since entering the NFL, according to head coach Bill O'Brien. O'Brien said the team wants to see continued improvement from Miller moving forward.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Miller will have a golden opportunity over the next few weeks while fourth-round pick and his main competition Keke Coutee is out with a hamstring injury. A consistent strong performance will go a long way in his bid to have a role in this offense, or even just make the roster.

JAX - WR Donte Moncrief a full participant

Source: The Florida Times-Union - John Reid

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Donte Moncrief (knee) will be a full participant during practice Friday, Aug. 3. Moncrief has been limited lately because of a knee injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hopefully Moncrief can stay on the field now. Injuries have held back his development and they could hamper his bid to be a productive starting receiver for the Jaguars and earn a good contract next year.

MIA - Mike Gesicki 'playing fast'

    Source: Florida Football Insiders

Miami Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki is 'playing fast,' according to head coach Adam Gase.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gesicki didn't stand out in the spring and had a slow start to camp, but the tide is turning. It's difficult for rookie tight ends to have fantasy relevance, but Gase turned Julius Thomas into a fantasy wonder, and Gesicki could be the #1 red zone target.

JAX - DJ Chark making a strong impression

Source: The Florida Times-Union - Phillip Heilman

Jacksonville Jaguars WR DJ Chark has shown dependable hands and looked comfortable pretty much wherever the coaching staff has lined him up during training camp, according to Philip Heilman of The Florida Times-Union.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Jaguars have five receivers who can all play solid roles in the offense this year, and at least three who can be deep threats. While it's not good for predicting weekly projections among the receiver group, it could be a boon for Blake Bortles. Chark is more of a dynasty stash right now, but if Donte Moncrief and Marqise Lee can't stay healthy, he could be a waiver wire pickup this season.

DEN - Courtland Sutton locking up third WR spot

Source: NFL Network - James Palmer

Denver Broncos WR Courtland Sutton is making at least one highlight-reel catch every practice and 'is the third receiver on this team ... it's not even a competition and everybody knows it,' according to NFL Network's James Palmer.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sutton could help Case Keenum's value, but if he is strong #3, that will take the edge off of Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders' upside this season. Both are still being discounted from the poor quarterback play the team has suffered through the last two years, so they might still be good values even with the emergence of Sutton.

DAL - WR Cole Beasley standing out

    Source: ESPNDallas.com - Todd Archer

Dallas Cowboys WR Cole Beasley has been the best receiver in camp and one of the best players overall so far, according to ESPN's Todd Archer.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The experiment to put Beasley outside sometimes might be bearing fruit, but if this is true, then it increases the chances that no Cowboys receiver will be consistently relevant in fantasy leagues this year.

TB - Justin Watson could help in red zone

    Source: Buccaneers.com - Scott Smith

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Justin Watson 'looks capable of being a red zone weapon,' according to Scott Smith of Bucanners.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Watson won't be fantasy relevant this year, but he should make the team as the fifth receiver and could be as high as the third receiver by next year. He's a viable deep dynasty stash.

TB - WR Chris Godwin earning more looks?

    Source: Buccaneers.com - Scott Smith

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin has been excellent in training camp, according to Scott Smith of Buccaneers.com, and Smith believes Godwin's play could force the coaching staff to find 'new ways to increase his snap total.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Godwin is making DeSean Jackson unworthy of a draft pick in typical fantasy leagues, and he might even start to cut into Mike Evans' ceiling. He should be on your late round target list.

WAS - RB Rob Kelley slimmed down

Source: The Washington Post - Kimberley A. Martin

Washington Redskins RB Rob Kelley said he is playing faster now that his weight is down to 221 pounds this season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kelley is battling Samaje Perine to be the #2 back behind Derrius Guice in the early down offense. If he is faster, he'll likely win the competition, and maybe even make Perine a surprise cut.

    Sunday Update

NE - Sony Michel out at least 10 days

    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

Updating previous reports, New England Patriots RB Sony Michel (knee) had fluid drained from his knee and will be sidelined for at least 10 days. People close to the situation do not appear to be concerned about Michel's availability for the regular season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Michel should be ready to go for Week 1, but this is a bit of a setback for the rookie. He was struggling a bit through camp up to this point, so Rex Burkhead's spot as the top back for the Patriots seems to be safe...at least in the early part of the season.

CIN - TE Tyler Eifert a full go

    Source: ESPN.com - Katherine Terrell

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (back) was a full participant in practice Friday, Aug. 3.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll take every one of these that isn't followed by "and left practice early to go to the trainer's tent" that we can get. Eifert is a no risk proposition at his ADP and the Bengals open with the Colts, so as long as he's active, he'll be startable.

OAK - Oakland waives Giorgio Tavecchio

Source: Las Vegas Review-Journal - Michael Gehlken

The Oakland Raiders waived PK Giorgio Tavecchio Friday, Aug. 3, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kicker news alert! UDFA Eddy Pineiro is the favorite to win the job now, but this was one of the worst kicker situations in the league last year. Veteran Mike Nugent was signed to give Pineiro competition.

MIN - RB Dalvin Cook ready to go

    Source: ESPN.com - Courtney Cronin

Minnesota Vikings RB Dalvin Cook (knee) will likely see some reps in preseason games, according to head coach Mike Zimmer, and Zimmer said Cook is ready to go for Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Normally we want to discount players returning from ACL, but Cook has been ahead of schedule for all of the offseason and appears to be ready to pick up where he left off last year.

PHI - No setbacks for QB Carson Wentz

Source: The Philadelphia Inquirer - Jeff McLane

Updating a previous report, Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz (knee) has not suffered any setbacks and his restrictions during practice are part of the plan, according to head coach Doug Pederson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll buy this as long as his absence doesn't go on for too long. We can't 100% rest easy because the Eagles might not be honest about a setback at this point as teams don't have any duty to tell us the truth about injuries yet.

HOU - D'Onta Foreman making progress

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans RB D'Onta Foreman (Achilles') is headed in the right direction in terms of his recovery, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep an eye on this situation and Foreman's health status changes the usage of Lamar Miller in 2018. Foreman is currently on Active/Physically Unable to Perform list. When healthy, we should see the Texans use a RBBC with both Foreman and Miller.

CLE - WR Josh Gordon in good spirits

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon has been in communication with WR Rashard Higgins, and Higgins said that Gordon is in good spirits.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's good news for Gordon and potentially for Fantasy GMs if he ends up getting back to football. Browns general manager John Dorsey said he still believes that Gordon will return to the team this season.

NYG - Odell Beckham happy to be back

    Source: The Associated Press

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (ankle) is thankful to be back on the field, and he said Saturday, Aug. 4, that his broken left ankle last season gave him a new perspective on life and football.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Beckham is in the final year of his contract, but the Giants have reportedly opened negotiations with the superstar receiver on a new deal. Fantasy GMs know what to expect from a healthy Beckham, and that's why he is getting drafted in the first round of 12-team PPR leagues at WR3 (1.10).

DEN - TE Jake Butt pushing for big role

Source: Denver7 Sports - Troy Renck

Denver Broncos TE Jake Butt has established himself as the frontrunner to be the primary pass-catching tight end this year, according to Troy Renck of Denver7 Sports.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Denver tight end isn't likely to be a fantasy force, especially when you consider the buzz around their pair of rookie wide receivers. Butt could be a bye/injury fill-in if he lives up to billing.

HOU - RB Alfred Blue the No. 2 back

    Source: HoustonTexans.com

Houston Texans RB Alfred Blue is listed as the No.2 running back on the first training camp depth chart.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

D'Onta Foreman isn't even a sure thing for Week 1. Blue is a competent backup between the tackles at best. Lamar Miller's modest ADP could be a value on the quality of this offense with Deshaun Watson at the helm, but also keep tabs on Tyler Ervin's return from a serious leg injury, as he could win a role as a receiving back.

NE - WR Julian Edelman shaking off rust

    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (knee) said he doesn't have his 'football legs' yet and isn't in the best shape following practice Friday, Aug. 3.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is something to monitor as Edelman is still being drafted as if he'll be the #1 receiver for the Patriots once he returns. If he is, he'll end up being a value, but coming back off of an ACL north of 30 adds some uncertainty to his delayed return.

CLE - WR Corey Coleman ailed by hamstring

Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich

Cleveland Browns WR Corey Coleman (hamstring) is dealing with a sore hamstring and was limited in practice Saturday, Aug. 4, according to head coach Hue Jackson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Browns have Jarvis Landry as their lead WR for 2018...and they may have Josh Gordon this year too. That doesn't leave much for Coleman when healthy. Coleman has struggled to stay healthy as a pro but nobody questions his talent when available. If Gordon does not end up reporting or playing, then Coleman could be in line for a starting job opposite Landry.

IND - QB Jacoby Brissett unlikely to be moved

Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Michael David Smith

Indianapolis Colts QB Jacoby Brissett likely will not be traded even if a team offered a first-round pick, according to owner Jim Irsay. Irsay said he believes Brissett is the best backup quarterback in the NFL.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's debatable who the best backup quarterback in the league is, but Philadelphia fans (hello, Nick Foles, Super Bowl MVP) would take issue with Irsay's claim. Brissett showed a bit filling in for Andrew Luck last year. He's not Luck, but if Brissett is forced into the lineup the bottom won't fall out of the offense.

NE - WR Eric Decker contract update

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots WR Eric Decker's one-year deal is worth $1.9 million, according to a source. Decker could make as much as $2.5 million depending on his reception totals.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Decker is a seasoned veteran and shouldn't take too long to get up to speed with the Patriots. His precise route running should make him a favorite of Tom Brady. During Julian Edelman's four-game suspension, we might see Decker have a flex-worthy role in this offense.

DAL - WR Allen Hurns to do individual drills

Source: The Athletic - Calvin Watkins

Dallas Cowboys WR Allen Hurns (groin) said Saturday, Aug. 4, that he will do individual drills in practice.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is not great news for the Cowboys. They have moved on from Dez Bryant and are trying to establish a new pecking order at the WR position. Hurns could be the lead guy with rookie Michael Gallup playing a large role as well. We'll see when Hurns can get back to full participation as he has been dealing with some groin issues early in training camp.

NO - WR Cameron Meredith gets special tutelage

Source: The New Orleans Advocate - Joel A. Erickson

New Orleans Saints WR Cameron Meredith (knee) worked one-on-one with QB Drew Brees after practice Saturday, Aug. 4, as the quarterback showed Meredith routes in the end zone.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If healthy, Meredith could be starting opposite Michael Thomas for the high-powered Saints offense. That's a fine fantasy asset if he does end up winning that position. We'll see if he can, but we'll also watch rookie WR Tre'Quan Smith as recent buzz has been very positive about him flashing in camp.

ATL - TE Austin Hooper praised by QB

    Source: AtlantaFalconscom - Matt Tabeek

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper is entering his third year and QB Matt Ryan feels he is primed for a big season. 'Well, he's gotten a lot better,' Ryan said Saturday, Aug. 4. 'A lot more polished.' The quarterback added that he thinks Hooper has figured out the timing of the offense and is a little bit more patient with his routes and understanding where he needs to be.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hooper had the targets last year but he didn't seem to have the consistency. Even if he does improve that area of his game, we see Hooper as more of a TE2 with upside for Fantasy GMs.

PIT - TE Vance McDonald on top of depth chart

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Vance McDonald is listed as the starting tight end on the team's first depth chart.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's a good sign that the buzz about the team wanting his role to expand is true, but for McDonald to have any relevance in fantasy leagues, he'll need to return from his foot injury and provide some consistency before the season starts.

IND - Owner high on RB Marlon Mack

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Zak Keefer

Indianapolis Colts RB Marlon Mack has the chance to rush for 1,500 yards this season, in the opinion of owner Jim Irsay.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll take Irsay's comments with a grain of salt here. All signs point towards the Colts employing a three or even four-way (once Robert Turbin is back) committee in the backfield. Mack is still the most valuable in terms of ADP.

CLE - Cleveland open to extending QB Tyrod Taylor's deal

Source: The Ringer - Kevin Clark

The Cleveland Browns are open to giving a contract extension to QB Tyrod Taylor, who is in the first season of a two-year, $30.5 million deal with the club. 'There may come a point where I call his representatives in October and say, 'Let's strike something up,'' general manager John Dorsey said to Kevin Clark of The Ringer. Dorsey went on to say that possible interest in keeping Taylor beyond the 2019 season would not necessarily mean QB Baker Mayfield wasn't pushing him for the starting job. 'Nah, let's deal with it when it happens,' Dorsey said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Backup quarterback is a position of underrated importance, and with Mayfield on a rookie deal, they could afford to overpay Taylor, but he would also be forgoing starter money elsewhere. This will be worth revisiting once we see how Taylor plays in the regular season.

Now Cleveland wants to throw even more money at Tyrod Taylor, no wonder why they always suck.

    Marlon Mack 1500 yds?

Seems like a little bit of bit of a stretch.
