Guaranteed money is dead money for franchises in 90% of these deals.

Yup.. If the Rams don't sign him another team will.. He's that good.. Gurley had a slow start to the season last year but really began to pick it up as the season went on.. Part of the reason the Rams even made the playoffs last year.. Goff was still a developing quarterback and he needed the complimentary running game and he got one in Gurley...

Rams don't want to break that up for next year.. I get it...

No doubt he is a great talent but one hit or stumble that leads to a nagging knee or ankle injury can change everything in one second. Then Rams are stuck with a monster contract and getting zero for it. Happens all the time and none of these teams ever learn. Sure he can be the next big star and could have a 7+ year career but the odds on that aren't very good. With how much shit these players put into their bodies and swell up these days joints can't and don't hold up for long.

Oh I know it's a gamble.. Still Gurley has been a proven durable running back though.. I don't remember him being injured last year at all do you? I think the Rams staff weighed that in on presenting this deal offer...

No he had no serious injuries last season but he only a few years removed from tearing his ACL in college. Hope the guy rips it up and after last season he deserves to be paid. Just can't believe a organization is guaranteeing that type of money.

Supposedly they structured it for 6 years. Gurley is 23 which puts him at 29 if he finishes the contract right before that magic 30 for RB's. I like the deal for a couple of reasons - you have a star locked up during his prime, you've committed to the fans who are coincidentally being asked to pay a ridic price for seats in the new stadium, and it sends a message to other top free agents that the Rams will take care of you.

As ever, the Devil is in the details. I remember the 49ers signing Kaepernick to a 6 year $100M with a big guaranteed number. In reality it was a 1 year deal with guarantees that only became guaranteed at certain future points, (which never happened). To quote a Zen master: "we'll see".

Good move by the Rams. Assuming he's on the field, these should be some of his peak production years(years 3-6) and will probably look like a bargain in a few year's time.

I'll be backing the Rams this year.. Goff a year better, Gurley locked in and loaded now.. Solid playoff team last year.. All signs point to them having a very good season this year coming up!!

Word out of the WestGate back office says that the Rams have the single most number of tickets bet on them to win the Superbowl.

I know it's early and anything can happen, but the Rams don't command the most money, that would be the Packers.

The latest update we get from Westgate shows the betting tickets to win the SuperBowl, in order from most to least, to be LA, Minny, GB, SF, and NO.

When it comes to money on teams to win the Superbowl, Westgate reports, in order from most to least, to be GB, LA, NE, Minny, Atl.

This is as I hear it today. Sorry, there are no links to give for reference although I'm sure the info is out there somewhere, or will be by days end.

    Tons of hype around rams.

Cousins' contract is the highest, for guarantees, ever for a QB. Hype around that too. I'm sure when more volume comes in that Minny will fall down the list a bit.
