NFL Player News - Week of 6/18/18

    Courtesy of Footballguys.com

NE - QB Tom Brady discusses future

    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady acknowledged in an interview with Oprah Winfrey that aired on her network Sunday, June 17, he knows he is getting closer to retirement as he nears his 41st birthday in August, telling Winfrey he is 'seeing that there's definitely an end coming, sooner rather than later.' However, Brady also added he wants to play 'as long as I'm loving the training and preparation and willing to make the commitment.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The end is near for Brady, and fantasy owners don't know if he's going to play one more year or five more years. Currently, Brady is going off the board at QB4 (6.05) in 12-team PPR leagues.

TB - TE O.J. Howard poised to break out?

Source: Tampa Bay Times - Rick Stroud

Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE O.J. Howard 'showed how versatile and explosive he can be during minicamp,' according to Rick Stroud of The Tampa Bay Times.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

An ankle injury ended Howard's rookie season with two games to go in 2017. He snared six touchdowns as a rookie and played more snaps (608) than Cameron Brate (586). His role is just getting started for the Buccaneers, and Howard has the upside to be a top-5 player at his position someday. Brate's presence holds his fantasy value down, but Howard is still getting drafted at TE15 (13.12) in current 12-team PPR leagues.

TB - Ronald Jones to get heavy workload quickly?

Source: Tampa Bay Times - Rick Stroud

Tampa bay Buccaneers RB Ronald Jones could post the biggest numbers of the team's defense-heavy draft class since he should get 15 to 20 touches per game, according to Rick Stroud of The Tampa Bay Times.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones is a dangerous playmaker who reminds many in the scouting community of a young Jamaal Charles. The Bucs have moved on from Doug Martin (Raiders), so they're looking for a lead back. We love Peyton Barber's heart and determination but he doesn't have the electric ability that Jones showcased on a weekly basis during his college days for the USC Trojans. We'll see a RBBC in Tampa this year most likely, but Jones is the player who should excite fantasy owners...especially in PPR formats.

BUF - Josh Allen in mix to start Week 1

Source: The Boston Globe - Ben Volin

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen has 'mesmerized fans with his big arm in practice' and, although he'll start the preseason third on the depth chart behind AJ McCarron and Nathan Peterman, he also 'has a real chance to be the Week 1 starter,' according to Ben Volin of The Boston Globe.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Allen is the quarterback of the future, and that's why the Bills moved up to select him in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft. He's got a big arm, but his college days at Wyoming were marred by poor accuracy. As a 56 percent passer for the Cowboys, Allen's main thing he needs to improve is his play under pressure. Too often Allen would feel the rush, then launch the ball off his back foot to his first/quickest read...and that led to some wayward passes. His arm is damn near superhuman, but Allen needs to continue picking up the nuances of the game in order to play up to his tremendous potential.

NYJ - Sam Darnold making strong impression

Source: The Boston Globe - Ben Volin

New York Jets QB Sam Darnold 'hasn't flinched' and has 'handled everything (the team) has thrown at him' since rookie minicamp, according to offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Darnold just turned 21 years old on June 5th, and he had plenty to learn after his college career at USC. The upside is tremendous with this rookie if the Jets take their time and properly develop him. With Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater, the Jets can take it slow with Darnold...if he lets them. It sounds like Darnold may make a stronger push for the starting job in Week 1 than some think. He's at least their quarterback of the future and if (when) their season goes off the rails, we could see Darnold take over.

CLE - Baker Mayfield not close to starting yet

Source: The Boston Globe - Ben Volin

Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield 'still has a long way to go' to unseat Tyrod Taylor as the starter, according to Ben Volin of The Boston Globe.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Browns could easily begin the season with Taylor as their starter...but Mayfield is going to get on the field sooner or later. The first-overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft, Mayfield has constantly proved doubters wrong throughout his football career and he's looking to do that now at the pro level. The Browns will need to be creative with the offense they design for him in order to use Mayfield's ability to create on the move.

BAL - Lamar Jackson runs the show

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson took all the reps during team drills Thursday, June 14, and had his best day throwing the football, according to head coach John Harbaugh.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jackson is a much better thrower from the pocket than many give him credit for. Sure, he's a runner but 75 percent of his rushing yards last year for Louisville came on designed runs. Jackson was added in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft with the idea that he could be groomed behind Joe Flacco as the team's QB of the future.

BUF - WR Zay Jones not guaranteed a starting job

    Source: WGR Sports Radio 550

Buffalo Bills WR Zay Jones will have to 'earn his way' and 'not necessarily go right to the top of the line' after a mostly disappointing rookie season, according to general manager Brandon Beane.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones has disappointed the Bills after a rookie season where he hauled in just 27 passes for 316 yards and two touchdowns. Then, there was his offseason....let's just say it's been an interesting time away from the game for Jones. Oh yeah, he's also still recovering from a knee injury suffered last year and hasn't been participating in OTAs this year. That being said, there's not many quality pass catchers with the Bills so there's an opportunity for Jones.

MIA - Mike Gesicki finishes spring strong

Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson

Miami Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki is a 'big man that can run and has really good hands' and had some 'really good days' toward the end of the team's offseason practices, according to head coach Adam Gase.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gesicki had an up-and-down offseason for the Dolphins. The rookie second-round pick from Penn State can be a 'lid lifter' down the seam at 6'6" 247 pounds. His blocking ability is...shall we say...a work in progress, but that's not why the team drafted him. Gesicki is dangerous as a receiver with his size, concentration and body control. The Dolphins are looking for a starting tight end, and Gesicki may end up getting the nod after training camp.

DEN - Big role for DaeSean Hamilton?

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeff Legwold

Denver Broncos WR DaeSean Hamilton should 'play plenty' this season, according to Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hamilton has been an impressive rookie during Broncos OTAs and mandatory minicamp. When he wasn't burning Bradley Roby on the outside, Hamilton was seen making plays over the middle as a slot receiver. He's not the fastest or the quickest, but Hamilton knows how to manipulate coverage, set up defenders and get open. The rookie could be the eventual replacement for Emmanuel Sanders (2019?) on the outside. This year, he might be involved as a slot receiver but on a run-first team Hamilton is unlikely to do much for fantasy owners in redraft leagues. We LOVE him in dynasty formats though (and fellow Broncos rookie WR Courtland Sutton too!).

CLE - Cleveland skeptical of WR Corey Coleman

Source: The Chronicle-Telegram - Scott Petrak

Cleveland Browns WR Corey Coleman 'work ethic and football intelligence' continue to be questioned by the coaching staff, according to Scott Petrak of the Chronicle-Telegram.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A first-round pick out of Baylor in the 2016 NFL draft, Coleman is in a make-or-break year for the Browns. He's caught 56 passes in two years, but only in 19 games as injuries have knocked him out of action plenty of times. Coleman could be traded but with $6.8 million in dead money this year that could be a deterrent for any prospective team...and it might be too rich for the Browns to just flat out release him.

LAC - TE Braedon Bowman standing out

    Source: Chargers.com - Ricky Henne

Los Angeles Chargers TE Braedon Bowman's playmaking ability has stood out during spring workouts, according to Ricky Henne of Chargers.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Undrafted out of South Alabama in 2016, Bowman has bounced around to a few teams already in his short pro career. He spent most of last year on the Chargers practice squad and is still developing at the position. After transferring from JUCO, Bowman only caught 29 passes in two seasons at South Alabama. He will be a player to watch in the preseason, especially since Hunter Henry is out for the year.

HOU - D'Onta Foreman still recovering

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans RB D'Onta Foreman (Achilles') is unlikely to be 100 percent by the start of training camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Foreman injured his Achilles' in Week 11 last year and has been on the road to recovery ever since. When healthy, the second-year pro could be the lead back for the Texans. Until then, we should continue to see Lamar Miller featured at the position. Earlier reports suggested Foreman could begin the regular season on the PUP list but that doesn't seem to be the case right now as there is more optimism about his recovery.

NYJ - WR ArDarius Stewart's spot safe?

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets WR ArDarius Stewart should have a spot on the 53-man roster because general manager Mike Maccagnan likes to protect his draft picks, in the opinion of Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's not an outlandish report whatsoever. The Jets WR corps is a bit up in the air right now, but Stewart could find himself fourth on the depth chart at the end of training camp. A third-round pick out of Alabama in the 2017 NFL draft, Stewart has a bit of Chris Hogan (Patriots) to his game and can use his run-after-the-catch ability to eat up yardage. We'll continue to monitor him in dynasty formats.

PHI - Dallas Goedert a factor in the red zone?

Source: The Philadelphia Inquirer - Jeff McLane

Philadelphia Eagles TE Dallas Goedert could make an instant impact in the red zone this year, according to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

At 6'4" 256 pounds, Goedert presents a big target for his quarterback. During his college career at South Dakota State, Goedert played in line or split out wide and dominated his level of competition. He'll work behind Zach Ertz in the pecking order at the tight end position, but expect the Eagles to be creative enough to find ways to utilize the rookie.

Was a drug test ever done on Zay Jones after his CA experience? He was certainly on something.

    Tuesday Update

IND - QB Andrew Luck adapting to change

    Source: MMQB - Albert Breer

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (shoulder) senses differences in how his shoulder reacts to new things this year. 'The pain is gone, and it's going to stay that way,' Luck said to reporters at minicamp. 'My body doesn't revolt, in a sense, to new things I ask.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Luck has to get over the physical nature of his injury, and there's a mental hurdle that can be significant when coming back from this type of situation. He'll need to learn a 'new normal' when it comes to being 100 percent healthy. Luck has begun throwing NFL footballs and is progressing well through his recovery. We should see him limited in the preseason as the Colts want him near full strength for the start of the regular season.

GB - Green Bay to use committee at RB

    Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky

Green Bay Packers RBs Ty Montgomery, Jamaal Williams and Aaron Jones will be part of a committee at running back this upcoming season, according to head coach Mike McCarthy. McCarthy said the team will be able to adjust if one of the running backs shows they can be the full-time starter.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This sounds about right. We should see Williams as the primary banger for the Packers offense as he can grind down opponents with multiple carries. Montgomery can be utilized effectively as a receiving back who could thrive if/when the Packers use a fast break offense. Jones is a good all-around back who might get a few touches here and there. Fantasy owners are currently taking Williams at RB45 (10.03) and Montgomery at RB42 (9.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

BAL - QB Joe Flacco putting in the time

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Katherine Fominykh

Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco said he plans to have throwing sessions with his receivers over the summer. 'So we'll be getting together, and it'll be good for us,' Flacco said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Flacco is playing with a renewed vigor this offseason according to reports. That's what happens when a team selects a quarterback in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft, and Lamar Jackson has been 'wowing' teammates and media out at Ravens headquarters. Flacco needs all the time he can get with his new weapons as the Ravens have completely revamped their WR corps.

DEN - QB Paxton Lynch staying ready

Source: The Denver Post - Ryan O'Halloran

Denver Broncos QB Paxton Lynch said he is 'very comfortable' running offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave's playbook and remains confident that he can lead the offense if called upon.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lynch has looked better this offseason and may have finally figured out what it takes to be a pro. A first-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft, Lynch has failed to beat out Trevor Siemian for two years. Now, Siemian is gone to the Vikings and Lynch now has no shot of being the starter so long as free agent addition Case Keenum is healthy. The team hasn't given up on Lynch just yet...and they may be the only people that have faith in Lynch to 'get it' and play up to his potential.

MIA - Mike Gesicki inks deal

    Source: MiamiDolphins.com

Miami Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki signed his four-year rookie contract Monday, June 18. Financial terms were not disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Don't ask him to block, but get Gesicki the ball as much as you can as a receiver. He basically plays like a super-sized wide receiver, and the rookie from Penn State measures in at 6'6" 247 pounds. Gesicki knows how to use his size and wingspan to pluck the ball away from smaller defenders. Even at his enormous size, Gesicki has the body control to consistently bring the ball down with two feet inbounds. He's competing with A.J. Derby (and others) to be the starting tight end for the Dolphins in 2018.

CAR - D.J. Moore signs contract

Source: The Charlotte Observer - Jourdan Rodrigue

Carolina Panthers WR D.J. Moore signed his four-year rookie deal Monday, June 18. Financial terms were not disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Moore is one of the most exciting WRs in the 2018 NFL draft, and he could quickly become a favorite of QB Cam Newton. He's got some Steve Smith to his game as Moore is feisty, strong and can win contested catches. Fantasy owners are taking him at WR48 (10.12) in current 12-team PPR drafts.

IND - TE Eric Ebron could have solid role

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Stephen Holder

Indianapolis Colts TE Eric Ebron was one of the more impressive players during offseason workouts and could have an impact in the passing game this season, in the opinion of the Indianapolis Star's Stephen Holder.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ebron is getting moved around the formation as a pass-catching weapon in OTAs and minicamp. He's always had the natural talent, but the 2014 first-round pick has never played up to his full potential. With a fresh start in Indianapolis, we'll see if Ebron can make some plays as the no.2 tight end for the Colts behind Jack Doyle.

ARI - RB T.J. Logan eyeing Week 1

Source: The Arizona Republic - Clevis Murray

Arizona Cardinals RB T.J. Logan (wrist) said his wrist is 'definitely' healthy, and he is trying to improve his conditioning with the hope of being ready to play in Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Logan is trying to win a change-of-pace role behind David Johnson in the Cardinals backfield. A fifth-round pick in the 2017 NFL draft, Logan was put on Injured Reserve last September and didn't post any stats as a rookie. We could see rookie Chase Edmonds (fourth-round pick out of Fordham) begin the season as the no.2 back behind Johnson.

PHI - Offense clicking for WR Shelton Gibson

Source: The Morning Call - Nick Fierro

Philadelphia Eagles WR Shelton Gibson said he is finally able to 'play fast' this year because he knows where he is supposed to be on each play and can run decisive routes.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A fifth-round pick out of West Virginia in 2017, Gibson has speed to burn. He can get down the field in the blink of an eye, and the second-year pro could be a 'lid lifter' for the Eagles passing attack (think DeSean Jackson-like). Keep an eye on him in dynasty formats.

PIT - James Washington sees time with starters

Source: Pittsburgh Tribune-Review - Joe Rutter

Pittsburgh Steelers WR James Washington spent time with the first-team offense in three-receiver sets during minicamp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Steelers don't hit on every pick, but they have shown a knack for finding WR talent in the NFL draft. Washington was incredibly productive during his time at Oklahoma State. Over the last three years, Washington has more receiving yards than any other college receiver during that time. He knows how to pluck the ball out of the air and has 'late hands' on deep passes...meaning he doesn't tip off the pass is coming to him until the final moment. Washington has the ability to become a favorite WR for Ben Roethlisberger.

WAS - Former teammate high on Derrius Guice

Source: The Times-Picayune - Christopher Dabe

Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice is going to do 'big things' this season, according to Jacksonville Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette. 'He always had the talent when I was there at LSU,' Fournette said. 'He's going to have a great year.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Guice has incredible talent and a natural running style that should translate quickly to the NFL. If he's motivated and focused, Guice could be one of the best running backs in the league. Guice should be the lead back for Washington with Chris Thompson working as a change-of-pace back. He's currently getting drafted at RB20 (4.03) in 12-team PPR leagues.

    Wednesday Update

NE - Early TE Rob Gronkowski trade talk confirmed

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Mike Florio

The New England Patriots were calling teams about a potential trade involving TE Rob Gronkowski as recently as three days before the NFL Draft to 'some teams they trust,' but a deal was never close enough to getting done to result in Gronkowski being informed about the possibility, according to SI.com's Albert Breer.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This rumor has been out there for some time now. Gronkowski was considering retirement and took some time before publicly declaring his intent to play in 2018. For the last month or so, the Patriots have been working on another extension for the star tight end. Fantasy owners know what to expect from Gronkowski, and he's going off the board at TE1 (3.01) in 12-team PPR leagues.

NYJ - WR Terrelle Pryor lost focus

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets WR Terrelle Pryor (ankle) admitted that he wasn't completely focused on football last year due to his ankle ailment. 'It took control of my mind. Right now, I'm healthy and ready to get back to form and have a dominant year.' Pryor added that he loves New York and wants to finish his career with the Jets.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

After a 1,000 yard season with the Browns in 2016, Pryor failed to impress during his time with Washington. He played in only nine games snaring just 20 passes for 240 yards and one touchdown. Pryor is not 100 percent healthy yet and is still recovering from the ankle injury that ended his 2017 season. The hope is that he'll be ready for the start of training camp.

IND - PK Adam Vinatieri not thinking retirement

    Source: Colts.com - Andrew Walker

Indianapolis Colts PK Adam Vinatieri said he loves football as much today as he did when he first started playing. The 45-year-old veteran added that he won't be retiring anytime soon as he looks to become the NFL's all-time leading scorer.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Vinatieri is not just sticking around for the records, he's still capable of playing at a high level. The future Hall of Fame kicker needs seven made field goals to pass Morten Andersen (565) for the most in NFL history. By scoring 58 points, Vinatieri will pass Andersen for the all-time lead in that category.

BAL - Hayden Hurst signs contract

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Baltimore Ravens TE Hayden Hurst singed his four-year rookie deal Tuesday, June 19. Financial terms were not disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hurst is a little bit older for a rookie (he'll be 25 in August) due to two years spent in the Pittsburgh Pirates minor league system. He only dropped one pass over the last three seasons while catching exactly 100 passes during that time. Hurst is not a nuanced route runner and can tip which way he's going before he makes his break. He can line up all over the formation and has reliable hands. The rookie from South Carolina will compete to be the Ravens starting tight end in 2018.

MIA - WR Danny Amendola making good first impression

    Source: MiamiDolphins.com - Andy Kent

Miami Dolphins WR Danny Amendola is 'speaking loudest by his actions or demeanor' more than any other teammate in the early going, as he brings the 'same off-the-charts level of intensity' to each practice. He's been staying on the field as long as anyone, works solo on 'some unique drills,' and when something happens to not go his way, 'there is a brief outburst that screams of how much he cares.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Amendola is competing to be the team's no.3 wide receiver behind DeVante Parker and Kenny Stills. The reports out of Dolphins camp have all been positive about Amendola and his connection with QB Ryan Tannehill. Some even think Amendola can catch 75 or so passes this year since Jarvis Landry was traded away. We think around 50 passes would be a more accurate projection. If healthy, the buzz makes Amendola worth gambling on at WR59 (13.08) in 12-team PPR leagues.

    Thursday Update

ATL - Calvin Ridley making impression

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Mike Florio

Atlanta Falcons WR Calvin Ridley is already having an impact on his teammates, particularly his defensive teammates. S Ricardo Allen credited Ridley for being a disciplined route-runner and moving like a veteran. 'I just want to see when he becomes a veteran how much better a player he's going to be,' Allen said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ridley was arguably the best wide receiver in the 2018 NFL draft, and he often draws comparisons to Hall of Fame WR Marvin Harrison. Like Harrison, Ridley is a fantastic route runner who does not tip off where he's going and then explodes out of his break. Ridley should be a welcome addition to an offense that sputtered last year in the red zone. Opposite of Julio Jones, Ridley should be able to take advantage of single coverage each week. Fantasy owners are drafting Ridley at WR45 (10.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

ATL - OC on the hot seat?

Source: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution - D. Orlando Ledbetter

Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian could be on the hot seat entering the 2018 campaign. The Falcons brought in Greg Knapp to work with the quarterbacks and also assist on the offensive game plan.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Falcons offense was painfully average last year in Sarkisian's first season of running the offense. They were 15th in the league with 22.06 points scored per game, and the Falcons scored 187 fewer points than they did with Kyle Shanahan running the show in 2016. The Falcons official website reported earlier this month that Sarkisian said he is more comfortable heading into his second season.

WAS - Trey Quinn impressive thus far

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins WR Trey Quinn has shown strong hands and quickness out of his breaks during the offseason, according to ESPN's John Keim. Quinn is currently best-suited for the slot, but the team hopes he can learn additional roles. Head coach Jay Gruden referred to Quinn as a 'very quarterback-friendly target.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A seventh-round pick out of SMU in the 2018 NFL draft, Quinn is a reliable target who can help move the chains. He's what scouts call a 'zone beater' and can find the soft spots to sit down against that type of defense. Quinn is competing for a spot on the depth chart behind Paul Richardson, Josh Doctson and Jamison Crowder.

JAX - DJ Chark's athleticism 'off the charts'

    Source: FirstCoastNews.com - Mike Kaye

Jacksonville Jaguars WR DJ Chark worked mostly with the second team offense during the third phase of the team's offseason program, 'routinely (catching balls) on passes heaved beyond the reach of the defensive backs in coverage,' according to Mike Kaye of FirstCoastNews.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Chark had incredible tools on display during his college career at LSU. His numbers weren't off the chart because the Tigers don't have quality quarterback play, but Chark was impressive at the Reese's Senior Bowl earlier this year and could be one of those players that is better as a pro than he was a collegian. He's got the speed to take the top off a defense early and often. Chark will need to prove he can be more consistent as a pass catcher and improve as a route runner to maximize his potential as a pro.

HOU - Keke Coutee making push for slot job

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans WR Keke Coutee is off to a 'good start' and is set to challenge Braxton Miller for the slot receiver job after running sharp routes and catching the football smoothly during OTAs and minicamp, according to the Houston Chronicle's Aaron Wilson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Another day, and another report about Coutee making a positive impression. Fantasy owners have taken note, and the rookie from Texas Tech is going to draw a lot of interest from the fantasy community during the preseason. The Texans have DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller on the outside, but Coutee can use his speed and quickness to work the underneath routes. With a robust passing game that has QB Deshaun Watson throwing the rock, their no.3 wide receiver could have flex appeal in PPR leagues.

Keke Coutee could be a very nice slot receiver, I liked his work at texas tech.

    Friday Update

TB - QB Jameis Winston expected to be suspended

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston is expected to be suspended for the first three games of the 2018 season for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy, according to sources. The suspension could increase or decrease depending on the circumstances surrounding the off-field incident.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Most fantasy GM's will hope the number of games decreases, but if you're drafting before that decision comes through you're going to have to assume the worst. And frankly, as mercurial as the NFL penalty process can be, it's tough to predict how this shakes out. This should significantly impact Winston's current ADP and overall fantasy value. Going from a high-end QB2 with even more upside to a much shakier low-end QB2. But one that could perform at a value on a per game level.

SEA - WR Brandon Marshall not guaranteed a spot

    Source: ESPN.com - Brady Henderson

Seattle Seahawks WR Brandon Marshall (hamstring, toe) is no lock to make the 53-man roster, according to ESPN's Brady Henderson. This is due to the team's limited financial commitment, which is insurance in case Marshall doesn't heal as well as they hope or if they see more value in retaining a younger option.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He didn't cost much but Pete Carroll will wring out all the value he can by making him a message for the team, a reminder that every position must be earned. Marshall was hurt last year and becoming less effective prior to that, so his loss would not be significant.

NYG - Holdout still an option for Odell Beckham?

    Source: SNY - Ralph Vacchiano

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. could still consider a holdout if he does not receive a new contract, according to sources in Beckham's camp. Beckham has said he plans to report to training camp on time.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's possible, and there's no reason for him to risk injury in the preseason. That said, he feels he has done everything right this offseason and everyone knows the team is in "win now" mode, so he might try to force the issues. An easy top-ten fantasy wide receiver -- arguably the top option for this year -- Beckham is dynamic if he can stay healthy.

GB - Backup QBs struggle during workouts

    Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky

Green Bay Packers QBs Brett Hundley and DeShone Kizer will compete for the No. 2 quarterback job during training camp, but both quarterbacks struggled at times during offseason workouts.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Neither of them is a great option if Aaron Rodgers goes down. Hundley wasn't all that impressive last time he had to carry the load and Kizer was shaky with the Browns last season. Once again, the Packers have to pray Rodgers avoids injury.

OAK - WR Martavis Bryant behaving

Source: The Athletic - Vic Tafur

Oakland Raiders WR Martavis Bryant has stayed clean and hasn't missed a drug test amid rumors that he could be suspended for a violation of the NFL's substance-abuse policy.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He knows he is on one of his last chance, if not the very last chance. And Jon Gruden is a lot of things, but he's not known for his tolerance of fools. Bryant has ability but not consistency and his attitude issues make his downside more glaring.

NYJ - WR Robby Anderson pleads no contest

    Source: JetsWire - Tyler Calvaruso

New York Jets WR Robby Anderson pleaded no contest Thursday, June 21, to a reckless driving charge from an arrest in January. He was sentenced to six months of non-reporting probation.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Now we'll see if he's suspended. Already facing a tightly packed -- though somewhat uninspiring -- receiving corps and a question mark at quarterback, Anderson's fantasy value will take a hit if he is suspended by the NFL.

SEA - SEA still paying for RB Marshawn Lynch

    Source: ESPN.com - Brady Henderson

Oakland Raiders RB Marshawn Lynch will take up more than $5 million on the Seattle Seahawks' salary cap in 2018 from his previous deal before he retired in 2016.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ouch. That's a lot of Skittles. Lynch came on strong late in the season, but at 32 it's hard for us to get a ton of enthusiasm for his production this year. Jon Gruden wants to run him a lot though, so he could very well outperform his ADP of 69 overall and No. 31 back off the board.

    Saturday Update

TB - Ryan Griffin could start

Source: Tampa Bay Times - Greg Auman

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Ryan W. Griffin has a chance in training camp to pass QB Ryan Fitzpatrick on the depth chart. QB Jameis Winston is expected to miss the first three games, and Griffin could start.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Griffin was developing as the team's #3 quarterback behind Winston and Mike Glennon in 2015 and 2016, but ended up on injured reserve to start the season last year and was activated to back up Ryan Fitzpatrick when Winston got hurt. While Fitzpatrick is one of most experienced backups in the league, the Bucs should give Griffin a chance to unseat him. If he does, it shouldn't be considered a big downgrade for Tampa skill players in the weeks Winston will miss.

CLE - Cleveland expect to ride 'hot hand' at RB

    Source: ClevelandBrowns.com - Andrew Gribble

Cleveland Browns RBs Carlos Hyde, Nick Chubb and Duke Johnson each are expected to play a major role in the team's offense this season, but running backs coach Freddie Kitchens told the team's website he plans to ride the 'hot hand' in the backfield because 'if they are having success, why would you change?'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson will surely lead the team in receptions out of the backfield, but Hyde and Chubb will have a fierce battle for early down carries, and one that could be fluid from game-to-game if Kitchens is to taken at face value. The Browns backfield is a tough puzzle to solve, although it's more enticing with expectations of much better game scripts this year.

JAX - TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins generating buzz

    Source: FirstCoastNews.com - Mike Kaye

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins was constantly open during non-contact practices and made impressive catch after impressive catch, according to Mike Kaye of FirstCoastNews.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Seferian-Jenkins could have easily had a solid TE1 status for most of the year were it not for a few questionable touchdown nullifications. He has been as good as advertised so far and could be an early season waiver wire wonder or a late round tight end streamer special with his opener against the Giants, who have been among the worst in the league at defending tight ends.

JAX - QB Blake Bortles inspiring confidence

    Source: FirstCoastNews.com - Mike Kaye

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles displayed improved accuracy and impressive chemistry with his new weapons, and he also seemed very comfortable with his improved throwing motion after spending even more time working on it in California, according to Mike Kaye of FirstCoastNews.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bortles came on at the end of the year, and will gain a tight end and downfield receiver that he is showing good chemistry with so far. He's basically free in drafts and opens with the Giants, New England, and Tennessee.

JAX - Keelan Cole not going away

    Source: FirstCoastNews.com - Mike Kaye

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Keelan Cole hasn't 'skipped a beat' this offseason following his surprise rookie season and seems poised to be the Jaguars' third wide receiver this season, according to FirstCoastNews.com's Mike Kaye, who added Cole may end up being the team's best option in the slot.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cole was the team's #1 when injuries depleted their wide receiver ranks last year, but he is will be more of a boom/bust best ball special with Marqise Lee's return and the addition of Donte Moncrief. Neither of Lee and Moncrief are known for their durability, so Cole could still pay off on a late pick with some patience.

JAX - WR Donte Moncrief flashes during spring

    Source: FirstCoastNews.com - Mike Kaye

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Donte Moncrief was healthy during offseason workouts and able to show off his speed on deep routes throughout OTAs, according to Mike Kaye of FirstCoastNews.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Moncrief's signing was a bit expensive for an oft-injured underachiever, but it appears that he is providing the vertical element that the Colts seemed to de-emphasize in recent years. He's just a late round flier, but he has more of a pulse now than he has at any point in the last year.

    Sunday Update

NO - WR Michael Thomas added muscle

Source: The New Orleans Advocate - Nick Underhill

New Orleans Saints WR Michael Thomas said he changed his diet and added muscle this offseason without changing his playing weight.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thomas saw his receiving yards-per-game go up slightly from 2016 (75.8) to 2017 (77.8), but his touchdowns dipped from nine to five. He has been a top-10 fantasy wide receiver every year he's been in the NFL, and Thomas is getting drafted at WR5 (2.04) in 12-team PPR leagues right now.

NE - WR Malcolm Mitchell uncertain for camp?

Source: Boston Herald - Stephen Hewitt

New England Patriots WR Malcolm Mitchell (knee) said 'we'll see' when asked if he will be ready for the start of training camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's not the phrase you want to use if you're Mitchell...or one of his dynasty owners. Mitchell's pro career has been set back by this knee injury as he missed all of the 2017 season and has missed all the offseason work for the Patriots in 2018. With Julian Edelman suspended the first four games of the year, Mitchell could be in the mix if ever healthy and able to compete for one of the top four spots on the depth chart.

HOU - Chris Thompson looking to build strength

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans WR Chris Thompson said he has been working on trying to get stronger this offseason.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thompson was undrafted out of Florida in 2017, and he hauled in five catches for 84 yards as a rookie. His best skill set is that of a return man, and he's expected to compete with rookie WR Keke Coutee for the returner job during training camp.

CLE - Antonio Callaway may be returner

Source: The Chronicle-Telegram - Scott Petrak

Cleveland Browns WR Antonio Callaway is the leading candidate for the punt and kick returner jobs entering training camp, in the opinion of The Chronicle-Telegram's Scott Petrak.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dane Brugler, from NFLDraftScout.com, has described Callaway as being 'quick as a hiccup' and that's a great description for the rookie's skill set. Callaway is quick and can make big plays with little space as a receiver or return man. A cousin of Ravens WR John Brown, Callaway has the ability to be a dangerous weapon as a pro...so long as he stays healthy (slender build at 5'10" 200 pounds) and stays out of trouble (suspended all of 2017 for the Gators).

NFL - TE Coby Fleener still recovering from concussion

    Source: The Athletic

Free-agent TE Coby Fleener (concussion) said he is still experiencing some concussion symptoms, although they have not had a major impact on his everyday life.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Earlier this year, Fleener was doing some work with the Saints in camp (light work) where he didn't suffer any setbacks. He hasn't cleared the league's concussion protocol to this point. His agent has heard from multiple teams interested in signing him if he's able to resume his playing career.

CFL - Edmonton interested in QB Christian Hackenberg

    Source: The Canadian Press

Free-agent QB Christian Hackenberg (Raiders) has been added to a negotiation list by the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League, according to a league source. CFL teams can have up to 45 players on their negotiation list, giving them exclusive negotiating rights, and the players can be added or removed from the list at any time.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hackenberg, a second-round pick in 2016, did not see the field for the Jets in two years. He didn't last very long (around a month) with the Raiders in 2018 and now may have to go to Canada to get on the football field. We doubt he does much in the CFL and his chances of returning to the NFL and doing anything of note is slim to none.

DET - Kerryon Johnson returning kicks

Source: The Detroit News - Justin Rogers

Detroit Lions RB Kerryon Johnson spent time returning kickoffs during spring practices.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson may not have to return kicks that far into his rookie season. The rookie from Auburn may finally be the answer the Lions have been looking for at the starting running back position.

TEN - Deontay Burnett popping in practice

    Source: TitansOnline.com - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans WR Deontay Burnett has 'flashed' during spring practices, according to Jim Wyatt of TitansOnline.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep an eye on the undrafted USC rookie wide receiver in training camp and the preseason. Burnett is a slippery receiver who does a good job of picking up yards after the catch. He'll 'stab and stash' quickly when a pass is coming in, and Burnett is working for a spot on the Titans depth chart behind starters Rishard Matthews and Corey Davis.
