NFL Player News - Week of 6/4/18

    Courtesy of Footballguys.com

DEN - QB Case Keenum the unquestioned starter

    Source: DenverBroncos.com - Aric DiLalla

Denver Broncos QB Case Keenum has been taking all of the first-team reps during OTAs, and offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave said the exclusive work is paying dividends.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team is settled entering the 2018 season because 'The Decision' of Paxton Lynch or Trevor Siemian was a huge distraction last year...and it failed miserably. Siemian was traded to the Vikings, while Lynch was told he can compete with Chad Kelly for the no.2 job this year. According to Broncos players, Keenum has already taken charge of the huddle and the team seems to be responding positively. We'll see if they keep up this momentum in training camp and the preseason.

MIN - RB Dalvin Cook limited during OTAs

Source: St. Paul Pioneer Press - Chris Tomasson

Minnesota Vikings RB Dalvin Cook (knee) participated in some individual drills but sat out team drills during OTAs earlier in the week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cook's ACL injury limited him to just four games as a rookie in 2017. He's an exciting prospect and his all-purpose ability has fantasy owners excited. Currently, Cook has an ADP of RB10 (2.01) in 12-team PPR leagues. Keep an eye on his progress as he gets eased back into action.

NE - TE Rob Gronkowski to attend minicamp

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski confirmed he will take part in the team's three-day minicamp this week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We all expected this to happen. Once work became mandatory, then Gronkowski (and others) would show up to the facility. The Patriots are working on a new contract extension for Gronkowski at this time and talks have been positive according to beat writers covering the team.

TB - WR Chris Godwin had stamina and breathing issues

    Source: ESPN.com - Jenna Laine

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin experienced stamina and breathing issues for much of last year due to problems with his mouth guard. Those issues have since been corrected and Godwin appears poised to have a breakthrough season in 2018, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Jenna Laine.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Earlier this year, Bucs OC Todd Monken said Godwin has earned the right to start. That's a great comment, but Godwin is currently third on the depth chart behind Mike Evans and DeSean Jackson. Currently, Godwin is going undrafted in 12-team PPR leagues so keep him on your waiver wire speed dial if you play in that format.

ATL - RB Devonta Freeman taking part in OTAs

Source: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution - D. Orlando Ledbetter

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (knee) was able to participate in OTAs last month.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll see the team use both Freeman and Tevin Coleman in a RBBC once again this season. From a fantasy perspective, Freeman is a low-end RB1 with a current ADP of RB12 (2.07) in 12-team PPR leagues. He suffered MCL and PCL sprains toward the end of last season but did not need surgery.

BUF - O-line gave RB LeSean McCoy some help in 2017

    Source: Pro Football Focus

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy led the league with 46 runs of five-plus yards before contact last season, according to Pro Football Focus.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCoy was 2nd in the league (Todd Gurley, 786) with 772 rushing yards before contact in 2017. The Bills O-line was a big plus last year, but there have been changes up front this offseason. We'll monitor how the Bills offensive line gels with the new personnel.

JAX - QB Blake Bortles relaxed at practice

Source: The Florida Times-Union - Gene Frenette

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles has been 'relaxed' at OTAs because he no longer needs to think about the plays or his footwork, according to offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Perhaps relaxed is the wrong word to use, but we get what Hackett is trying to say. Bortles wants to put his mechanical issues behind him so he can run the offense seamlessly without putting too much thought into his physical play. It sounds like he's on that track, but fantasy owners only see Bortles as a low-end QB2.

DEN - QB Paxton Lynch improving

    Source: DenverBroncos.com - Aric DiLalla

Denver Broncos QB Paxton Lynch has been the best quarterback on the roster at making 'smart decisions' with the ball during OTAs, according to offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lynch has looked better than ever before...in practice...with no pads on. The team (read; John Elway) may still believe in Lynch, but the 2016 first-round pick has failed to win the starting job in two years. This season, Lynch is no way in contention for the top spot. He's not relaxing per head coach Vance Joseph, but Lynch has always flashed with no/little pressure. Put him in pads when the tackling is live and then we'll see what kind of improvement he's really made.

NYJ - Not much progress for WR ArDarius Stewart

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets WR ArDarius Stewart hasn't made many 'flash plays' so far during OTAs and is currently behind WR Chad Hansen on the depth chart, according to Rich Cimini of ESPNewYork.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A third-round pick out of Alabama in the 2017 NFL draft, Stewart does a good job of making plays after the catch. He can set up defenders on underneath routes and use strength to get away from tight pursuit. It sounds like he needs to work on more of the 'wow' factor if he wants to move up the depth chart in 2018. We'll watch him closely for dynasty leagues.

Denver Broncos QB Paxton Lynch has been the best quarterback on the roster at making 'smart decisions' with the ball during OTAs, according to offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave.

So what is happening in Denver? Who is running the team? Denver and Oakland will have a good battle for 3rd in the NFC West. Both will be lucky to finish over .500.

    Tuesday Update

NYG - Odell Beckham absent Monday

    Source: ESPN.com - Jordan Raanan

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. was not present for organized team activities Monday, June 4, but head coach Pat Shurmur said he expects Beckham to report for the mandatory minicamp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The workouts are voluntary, and Beckham was present for earlier OTAs. The mandatory minicamp workouts next week will not be missed. Beckham wants a new contract but he's been showing up for most workouts in a good faith move. We'll see if the Giants can find a way to pay the man...likely with a deal that makes him the highest paid WR in the league.

MIA - QB Ryan Tannehill moving well

Source: Palm Beach Post - Joe Schad

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill's (knee) mobility is already up to par and he has been converting numerous unscheduled plays, according to Miami coaches.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Tannehill ditched the knee brace some time ago, and the Dolphins are moving forward with him as the clear-cut starter. However, 2018 is a make-or-break season for Tannehill and he needs to not only play up to his old standard but create new ideas about his potential upside if he continues as the team's starter past this season.

MIA - WR DeVante Parker playing the part

Source: Palm Beach Post - Joe Schad

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker has been putting in the time and work this offseason in an effort to finally break out. Coaches said few if any players have spent more time at the team facility than Parker. Specifically, more focus has been placed on studying film and managing his health.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Parker needs to stay healthy in order to reach the potential we keep hearing about year in and year out. He's a boom/bust wide receiver that fantasy owners are taking at WR41 (9.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

IND - WR T.Y. Hilton still a deep threat

    Source: Colts.com - Andrew Walker

Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton will still have opportunities to make plays down the field in head coach Frank Reich's fast-paced offense. 'A lot of jabs, stick and move, and then here comes the big punch,' Reich said. 'And when you keep them off-balance with the jab and you set up the big one.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Things are looking up for the Colts passing game in 2018...if QB Andrew Luck returns to form. Last year, Hilton ranked 20th in the league with a 13.15 air-yards-per-attempt average but he was 4th in the NFL with 16.95 yards per catch. Fantasy owners are selecting Hilton at WR14 (3.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

NYJ - WR Quincy Enunwa strictly a WR now?

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets WR Quincy Enunwa said he 'definitely' considers himself a wide receiver now after being used in the slot, out wide and as a tight end in 2016.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A neck injury knocked Enunwa out for the 2017 season. He's healthy and back in action now for the Jets, and clearly Enunwa wants to play as a wide receiver. Fantasy owners aren't in love with the Jets passing game, nor should they be. Even if he posts the numbers that led the Jets in receiving in 2016 (58 catches, 857 yards, four touchdowns), Enunwa is only a WR5 option from a fantasy lens. There are much more exciting options out there.

NYJ - RB Isaiah Crowell to bring physicality

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets RB Isaiah Crowell was called a 'pound-it back' by head coach Todd Bowles, and Bowles said Crowell reminds him of a younger version of retired RB Matt Forte.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Crowell is there to grind down the defense, and he should be the primary ball carrier for the Jets in 2018. Behind Crowell, guys like Eli McGuire and Bilal Powell will compete to be third-down options. He's got a current ADP of RB39 (8.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

SEA - WR Brandon Marshall being eased in

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks WR Brandon Marshall has been seeing limited reps during OTAs but is expected to gradually increase his activity in the coming weeks.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Marshall has recovered from the surgeries (toe, ankle) that he had last year. The Seahawks don't need to push him right now as they prepare the team for training camp in August.

CLE - Nick Chubb signs contract

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns second-round draft choice RB Nick Chubb signed a four-year deal with the Browns Monday, June 4, worth around $7.432 million.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Chubb is one of the most natural runners to come out of college football. He has an excellent feel for the game, running with a blend of balance and power. A devastating knee injury during his sophomore season held him back for the Georgia Bulldogs, but in 2017 he did show flashes of his earlier days and that's a good sign of things to come. Chubb is competing with Carlos Hyde to be the starting back (with Duke Johnson mixing in as a change-of-pace back). We love Chubb in dynasty formats.

DEN - WR Demaryius Thomas, WR Emmanuel Sanders absent

Source: The Athletic - Nicki Jhabvala

Denver Broncos WRs Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders were not present for organized team activities Monday, June 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

According to head coach Vance Joseph, both Thomas and Sanders had personal matters to attend to. The Broncos drafted two WRs this year that dynasty owners should be excited about. Both Courtland Sutton and DaeSean Hamilton have the makings of solid NFL players who could perhaps have star potential in the future. Thomas and Sanders are the top two wideouts for now, but Sutton and Hamilton are clearly being groomed to take over (perhaps in 2019?).

GB - WR Davante Adams practicing

    Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky

Green Bay Packers WR Davante Adams (hamstring) is participating in organized team activities Monday, June 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for the Packers here. Adams missed the first two weeks of workouts because of a hamstring injury. Without Jordy Nelson (Raiders), we should see Adams have a breakout year in 2018 if healthy. Fantasy owners are drafting him at WR7 (2.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

CHI - TE Zach Miller signs split deal

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Mike Florio

Free-agent TE Zach Miller (Bears) re-signed with the Chicago Bears on a one-year, split contract, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Miller (knee) is unlikely to be able to play again after a knee injury nearly led to amputation. He'll receive $458,000 if he doesn't play and $790,000 if he does. He's undergone nine surgeries to repair his knee, and we'd be shocked if he ever played again. A classy move by the Bears here as Miller doesn't want to yet be done playing the game.

LAC - Justin Jackson putting in the work

    Source: Chargers.com - Chris Hayre

Los Angeles Chargers RB Justin Jackson has been spending as much time as possible on the field during OTAs, and he has been working closely with RB Melvin Gordon.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's exciting news for dynasty owners out there. Jackson, the rookie from Northwestern, is competing for a spot on the depth chart behind Gordon. He's a jack of all trades at 199 pounds and was the model of consistency in college for the Wildcats. We'll see if he can impress when training camp and the preseason rolls around.

    Wednesday Update

PHI - ESPN's Mortensen Optimistic For QB Carson Wentz

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

ESPN's Chris Mortensen said he's "starting to believe that Carson Wentz is going to be ready for the opener."

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wentz has been on track during his recovery from the knee injury that ended his 2017 season. It's great news, but we still want to see him progress through training camp and the preseason. With the Eagles QB depth, the team has the luxury of not pushing his return. Stay tuned as we think this is far from settled.

ARI - More practice for QB Sam Bradford

    Source: AZCardinals.com

Arizona Cardinals QB Sam Bradford's (knee) practice repetitions are expected to increase in minicamp next week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bradford could be the starter for the Cardinals in 2018...at least until rookie first-round pick Josh Rosen takes over. When that happens depends on the development of Rosen, and this is a battle to watch during training camp and the preseason. Bradford is on schedule in his rehabilitation, according to head coach Steve Wilks, and he likes how he feels physically and mentally.

HOU - PUP unlikely for QB Deshaun Watson

    Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport

Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson (knee) is recovering well enough at this point from his surgery to repair his torn ACL that he is expected to avoid the Physically Unable to Perform list, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantastic news for the Texans and fantasy owners here. Watson set the league on fire with 19 passing touchdowns in seven games before going down with this knee injury. The offense is supposedly geared even more towards Watson's strengths, and he's currently getting picked at QB2 (4.08) in 12-team PPR leagues.

CAR - RB Christian McCaffrey poised for big workload

    Source: ESPN.com - David Newton

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey will be the featured back this season following the release of Jonathan Stewart, according to ESPN's David Newton, who reports head coach Ron Rivera said Monday, June 4, that he sees no reason why McCaffrey cannot reach 200 carries in 2018 after finishing with 117 as a rookie.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Reports indicate McCaffrey has added more body armor (weight) this offseason in anticipation of a larger role. The team added C.J. Anderson in free agency and he can be a two-down banger if need be. McCaffrey is a compact back who can make plays in space. He's not great running between the tackles, but he doesn't shy away from work inside.

NE - QB Tom Brady in the house

Source: NFL Network - Stacey Dales

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady reported for minicamp Tuesday, June 5, according to sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This was expected by those not fear mongering the Patriots offseason drama. Once the work became mandatory (as it is now), Brady was always going to show up.

TB - Ronald Jones to be factor in passing game

    Source: Buccaneers.com - Scott Smith

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Ronald Jones is being envisioned as a 'three-down back' by running backs coach Tim Spencer, who added that he would want Jones 'to be able to catch the ball because we have some things we'd like to give him with his speed.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones plays like a young Jamaal Charles as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. He'll compete with Peyton Barber to be the team's starting running back in 2018. Barber is more of a grinder, while Jones is a threat to score anytime he touches the ball. It may be a RBBC for some time, but Jones should be the more valuable asset due to his speed, quickness and playmaking ability.

TEN - RB Derrick Henry, RB Dion Lewis viewed equally

    Source: PaulKuharsky.com

Tennessee Titans RBs Derrick Henry and Dion Lewis are considered 1a and 1b in the eyes of offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bad news for fantasy owners here, especially dynasty owners who have been hanging onto Henry waiting for the backfield to be his and his only. Lewis was added in free agency to split time in the backfield with Henry. While Henry is a powerful and swift back, Lewis is a compact runner who can create space with moves in the open field. Henry has a current ADP of RB17 (3.08) and Lewis is at RB28 (5.10) in 12-team PPR leagues.

MIN - RB Dalvin Cook part of team drills

Source: St. Paul Pioneer Press - Chris Tomasson

Minnesota Vikings RB Dalvin Cook (knee) has participated in team drills during organized team activities this week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cook's rookie season in 2017 was cut short by this knee injury. Before the injury, Cook showed the ability to be a quality runner and receiver out of the backfield. Even with Kirk Cousins running the show at quarterback, the Vikings should feature the running game with Cook leading the way. Fantasy owners are expecting Cook to have a strong second season with a current ADP of RB10 (2.01) in 12-team PPR leagues.

NYJ - WR Terrelle Pryor in walking boot

    Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport

New York Jets WR Terrelle Pryor (foot) was spotted in a walking boot at OTAs after recently undergoing a minor cleanup procedure on his foot, according to sources. Pryor is expected to be ready for training camp, however.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bad news for Pryor here. He is trying to erase the bad tape he put out there in Washington last year. Pryor needs to stay healthy and produce this year in a cramped WR corps with the Jets. We'll see if he can participate at a 100 percent level in training camp.

BAL - Lamar Jackson signs rookie deal

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Baltimore Ravens first-round pick QB Lamar Jackson signed his four-year deal Tuesday, June 5. Financial terms weren't disclosed, but all first-round picks have fifth-year options.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jackson could be groomed as the quarterback of the future for the Ravens. He'll compete for a spot on the depth chart behind Joe Flacco in 2018. Jackson is fast, athletic and dangerous with the ball in his hands as a runner...plus his skill as a pocket passer is often overlooked or overshadowed by his athletic prowess. Jackson does 'bird dog' his primary target and needs to become more nuanced in his progressions.

    Thursday Update

PHI - QB Carson Wentz cleared for 7-on-7 work

Source: Philadelphia Daily News - Les Bowen

Updating previousr reports, Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz (knee) has been cleared for seven-on-seven work, according to head coach Doug Pederson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wentz remains ahead of schedule in recovery from the knee injury that ended his 2017 season, but his status for the beginning of the regular season is still up in the air. He should be on track to start in Week 1 but he'll have to suffer no setbacks over the next couple of months and continue to progress.

DET - Lions hosting backup QB competition

    Source: DetroitLions.com - Tim Twentyman

Detroit Lions QB Jake Rudock received most of the second-team reps Wednesday, June 6, after QB Matt Cassel took most of them on Tuesday, June 5. The club appears to be giving both signal-callers an equal opportunity to win the backup job behind QB Matthew Stafford.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Neither one is interesting as dynasty prospects. Cassel is well known by the NFL community from his days as a starter. Rudock is much more unknown, but from his college days at Michigan he's a player with a ton of moxie and toughness in the pocket. We're not expecting much from him if he ever gets the chance to start.

WAS - QB Alex Smith, WR Jamison Crowder clicking

    Source: CSNWashington.com - Rich Tandler

Washington Redskins QB Alex Smith and WR Jamison Crowder already appear to have good chemistry. According to NBCSportsWashington's Rich Tandler, Smith looked comfortable looking Crowder's way during goal-line plays at organized team activities Wednesday, June 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep this in mind as training camp and the preseason approaches. Smith is the new quarterback in Washington, and it sounds like he's developing a strong rapport with Crowder. In current 12-team PPR league drafts, Crowder is going off the board at WR42 (9.06).

MIA - WR DeVante Parker sets reasonable goals

    Source: Sun-Sentinel - Omar Kelly

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker said his 2018 goals are to stay healthy, reach 1,000 yards and score a few touchdowns.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Parker has always been part of the All-Hype team in the spring and training camp during the summer. A first-round pick in 2015, Parker has at best been WR52 (2016) in standard-scoring leagues. Without Jarvis Landry (Browns) this year, Parker will have a larger opportunity and a chance to finally play up to his potential. He's going off the board at WR41 (9.03) in 12-team PPR leagues.

ARI - TE Jermaine Gresham shooting for Week 1

    Source: ESPN.com - Josh Weinfuss

Arizona Cardinals TE Jermaine Gresham (Achilles') is hopeful to be ready for Week 1, according to head coach Steve Wilks.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gresham injured his Achilles' in Week 17 last year and should be limited in training camp. We should see Ricky Seals-Jones get a chance to do more in 2018.

    Edelman Suspended 4 Games

    Hi Folks,

Big news out of New England. Patriots WR Julian Edelman has been suspended four games per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

From Schefter's Twitter Feed: "Patriots WR Julian Edelman is facing a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s performance enhancing substances policy, league sources tell @FieldYates and me. Suspension is under appeal."

Our Devin Knotts had this take and I think it's right on. "Jordan Matthews can stay healthy he's worth a flyer as he's currently the 71st wide receiver in terms of ADP. We've also seen what a healthy Chris Hogan can do early in the year."

It's also worth noting few teams seem more game plan specific for the passing game than New England. So while I like what this does for Matthews, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the team adapt to the loss of Edelman in multiple different ways with multiple players. Bottom line is we like what this does for Matthews in a general sense. But don't go crazy for him. And look to see if the suspension is upheld on appeal.

    Friday Update

NE - WR Julian Edelman facing suspension

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman has a four-game suspension looming for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy, according to sources. Edelman has appealed the suspension.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If he loses this, it's a significant hit to his value. Right now he's projecting as a solid WR3 with upside, depending on how he looks coming back from his ACL injury. This could hurt where he's drafted in fantasy leagues, though, as it could delay his season by a month. Watch his ADP -- currently 69 overall and 28 receiver off the board in the "way too early to be drafting redraft" leagues -- as if it drops he could become a value again as the summer moves on.

NE - WR Julian Edelman's appeal not heard yet

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman has not had the appeal of his impending four-game suspension heard by the NFL at this point.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

As mentioned earlier, if he loses this appeal, it's a significant hit to his value. Without the suspension, he looks like he could be a solid WR3 with upside, depending on how he looks coming back from his ACL injury. If he is suspended to start the season, that's going to push his value down.

IND - QB Andrew Luck close to throwing

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Zak Keefer

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (shoulder) is 'real close' to finally throwing a football again, according to head coach Frank Reich. Luck will essentially decide when he does start throwing.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's really hard to believe this, as it's something we have heard a bunch and yet it hasn't happened. Even when we see it, he still will need to show confidence in his arm and taking a hit. Add in the continuing issues on offense and Luck is a hard guy to pin down. Right now, he has an ADP of 108 and is the 13 quarterback coming off the board. If you could grab him there, especially as a QB2, you could strike gold if he's healthy, while mitigating risk if he isn't.

CLE - RB Duke Johnson receives extension

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson agreed to terms on a three-year contract extension with the Browns Thursday, June 7, worth $15.6 million, according to a source. The deal includes a $5 million signing bonus.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A good deal for both the team and Johnson, who had a lot of value as a receiver last season. But with all the receiving talent the Browns have now, Johnson could see reduced targets. Which means his overall production could drop due to lack of receiving yards, which makes his current ADP as the no.41 running back off the board about right for now.

NE - QB Tom Brady unsure about next week

Source: The Athletic - Jeff Howe

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady said he is not sure if he will participate in organized team activities next week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brady isn't a guy we need to see in OTAs, and there aren't so many changes that he needs to get used to his guys. Brady is likely to be one of the top fantasy quarterbacks again this year, whether he is in a pair of shorts and t-shirt next week or not.

BUF - Josh Allen may not move up depth chart

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Rodak

Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott said he is not sure if QB Josh Allen will receive snaps with the first-team or second-team offense during minicamp next week. Allen has been working with the third-team offense during workouts.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Allen is a work in progress, and this shows the Bills are willing to wait and move him along slowly. That's smart, as he has a lot to learn. The Bills have few reliable weapons for him to throw to, so no matter who is under center in Buffalo, we are avoiding most everyone not named RB LeSean McCoy right now.

KC - WR Tyreek Hill tweaked ankle

    Source: KCChiefs.com - B.J. Kissel

Kansas City Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill (ankle) did not practice Thursday, June 7, after twisting his ankle.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hill is coming off a very good 2017, but the team lost Alex Smith and gained Sammy Watkins. In place of Smith, the Chiefs have Pat Mahomes, whose arm is promising for Hill's value. It's also worth noting that Sammy Watkins has rarely lived up to his hype and there's nothing to indicate that changing much in Kansas City. We think Hill is safe as a solid WR2 with a lot of upside, and worth his current ADP of 26 overall off the board, and definitely worth considering at his receiver ADP of 10.

PIT - QB Ben Roethlisberger back with team

Source: The Athletic - Mark Kaboly

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger participated in organized team activities Wednesday, June 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mandatory minicamp is coming up, but Roethlisberger isn't going to miss any more action. He said he missed the last several workouts because of a pre-planned vacation.

NE - WR Kenny Britt sits out

    Source: NESN.com - Doug Kyed

New England Patriots WR Kenny Britt (hamstring) did not participate in practice Wednesday, June 6, after he suffered an apparent hamstring injury Tuesday, June 5.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Britt has the size/speed combination that makes fantasy owners drool...but he's also got a track record of getting banged up and not quite playing up to his potential. We'll see if that can change in 2018.

MIA - WR Danny Amendola unlikely to be main returner

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins WR Danny Amendola likely will be used as a situational punt returner for the Dolphins this season, according to special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jakeem Grant is the team's main return man in 2018. Amendola could easily do that in a pinch, but the team may use him more as a receiver than some think. We'll see how he gels with his new team and his new QB Ryan Tannehill.

BUF - WR Jeremy Kerley working as slot WR

    Source: WKBW.com - Joe Buscaglia

Buffalo Bills WR Jeremy Kerley has been lining up as the slot receiver with the first-team offense during organized team activities. He's been a 'firm fit' so far and should have a leg up for this spot, with his 'primary sources of competition' coming from rookie WRs Austin Proehl and Ray-Ray McCloud.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is Kerley's natural position, and at this point in his career, likely what he is best capable of. Kelvin Benjamin is inconsistent and Zay Jones will be coming off surgery, so this could be a productive year for him in PPR leagues. Our expectations are super low, however, given this is a run first offense and the quarterback situation is foggy. Don't draft him, but keep an ear out for the buzz out of camp.

IND - Nyheim Hines working as top returner

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Zak Keefer

Indianapolis Colts RB Nyheim Hines worked as the No. 1 kick returner during organized team activities Thursday, June 7.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A speedy, versatile back, Hines is someone to watch. There are a lot of ways his career can go right now, and with just Marlon Mack (who garnered only a 3.9 yards per carry average last season) ahead of him, Hines could see more carries than expected. At the very least, he can be a third down back and potentially a flex play for Fantasy GMs.

TB - More read-option for QB Jameis Winston?

    Source: PewterReport.com

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston could be running some more read-option plays in 2018, according to head coach Dirk Koetter.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's smart for the Buccaneers to take advantage of his mobility and it's not as unusual as it used to be anymore. He had injury issues last year, which is the only thing that makes this particular move risky. As for Fantasy GMs, Winston's turnovers and red zone struggles from last season are the bigger issue and keep him from a higher spot than his current ADP of 17 quarterback off the board.

CHI - RB Tarik Cohen a jack of all trades

Source: Chicago Sun-Times - Mark Potash

Chicago Bears RB Tarik Cohen's versatility gives the Bears a dynamic playmaker on offense. He will be used as a running back, wide receiver and even a pass-blocker. Head coach Matt Nagy said Cohen still has a lot to learn, but he has a lot to learn because Chicago plans on using him in a variety of ways. In addition to his running back duties, Cohen said he has lined up on the outside and in the slot as a receiver and has practiced on special teams. 'I feel like this is the offense for me.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He's going to have to go a long way to top what we expect from Jordan Howard, though he did take a lot of Howard's receptions last season. That said, Cohen's overall production was sporadic. His versatility at least gives him an interesting role as a flex option in fantasy leagues.

NYJ - WR Terrelle Pryor may not be ready for camp

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

Updating a previous report, New York Jets WR Terrelle Pryor's (ankle) availability for the start of training camp is uncertain because of recent arthroscopic ankle surgery, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This was the thought when Pryor had to have this recent ankle surgery. Pryor is trying to bounce back with a new team after a disastrous 2017 with Washington. The Jets are a bit jam packed at the WR position, so finding a chance to get snaps and earn targets may be difficult.

    Saturday Update

ARI - Extension coming for RB David Johnson?

Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafolo

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson has a good chance to receive a contract extension before the start of the regular season, in the opinion of NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A third-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft, Johnson is in the final year of his rookie contract and has a base salary of $705,000. The team may want to avoid franchise tagging him next offseason, and Johnson doesn't have as much leverage after missing all but one game last year due to a wrist injury.

ARI - Minor injury for RB David Johnson

Source: The Arizona Republic - Kent Somers

Updating a previous report, Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson's (undisclosed) undisclosed injury is not consider serious.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There's not much known about this injury, but reports are assuring everyone that this is no big deal.

MIA - Mike Gesicki starting slow

Source: The Miami Herald - Adam H. Beasley

Miami Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki has been a non-factor in the four practices open to reporters the spring and even looked lost at times, according to Adam Beasley of The Miami Herald.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The rookie from Penn State is going to take some time to convert to the pros. The tight end position is one that usually requires experience before a player breaks out. Gesicki lined up mostly in the slot for the Nittany Lions as an "F" tight end. He's a work in progress in terms of learning the pro game. The rookie is competing with guys like A.J. Derby to be the top tight end for Miami in 2018.

NE - No truth to TE Rob Gronkowski trade rumors

Source: NBC Sports Boston - Michael Giardi

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski will not be traded by the end of day as had been widely speculated or rumored earlier in the day Friday, June 8, according to multiple sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There has been some....odd...buzz around the Patriots. It started with the Julian Edelman PED suspension and then these Gronkowski rumors started flying. The Patriots have more drama swirling around their team than normal. This sounds like a non issue, but as always stay tuned.

PHI - WR Mike Wallace transitioning nicely

    Source: PhillyVoice.com - Jimmy Kempski

Philadelphia Eagles WR Mike Wallace 'looks the part' as he attempts to secure a starting receiver job this summer, according to Jimmy Kempski of the Philly Voice.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wallace is a veteran receiver who has a game built on speed. He's there to be a 'lid lifter' for the Eagles offense. Wallace will compete in the pecking order at wide receiver behind Alshon Jeffery and Nelson Agholor.

MIN - WR Laquon Treadwell working with starters

Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Andrew Krammer

Minnesota Vikings WR Laquon Treadwell has been working as the third receiver with the first-team offense during OTAs.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is certainly a prove it year for the 2016 first-round pick. Treadwell has 21 career receptions in 25 games over two seasons. He's competing with Kendall Wright to be the Vikings no.3 wideout behind Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs.

MIN - WR Kendall Wright a backup?

Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Andrew Krammer

Minnesota Vikings WR Kendall Wright has been working with the second-team offense during OTAs.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wright had 59 catches for the Bears last year and comes to Minnesota in 2018 to give Kirk Cousins a reliable no.3 or no.4 wide receiver. From a fantasy perspective, Wright is nothing more than a WR6 who could have some flex value during bye weeks in deep leagues.

WAS - Derrius Guice showing versatility

    Source: CSNWashington.com - JP Finlay

Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said it has been 'exciting' to watch RB Derrius Guice catch the ball during OTAs.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He only had 32 catches over three seasons at LSU, but Guice has been working on improving his hands and receiving ability. While it's good that he improved his receiving game, Washington should use Chris Thompson as their primary receiving threat out of the backfield.

SF - Dante Pettis prepping for big role

    Source: 49ers.com - Joe Fann

San Francisco 49ers WR Dante Pettis is currently learning all three receiver positions and is being taught more than a typical rookie, according to wide receivers coach Mike LaFleur.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pettis is more than just a great return man. In college at Washington, Pettis showed great desire on the field and will fight for any pass in his direction. He's a good route runner and knows how to create space after making his break. He's a dynasty prospect we're excited about. In 2018, Pettis should be the fourth receiver on the depth chart behind Pierre Garcon, Marquise Goodwin and Trent Taylor.

CHI - WR Kevin White eager to make an impact

Source: Chicago Tribune - Dan Wiederer

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White has been practicing with 'a lot of passion' during OTAs, according to QB Mitchell Trubisky, and Trubisky said the two have been communicating on an off the field.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's a make-or-break year for White. A first-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft, White's career has been set back by injuries and he's only played five games in three seasons. With Allen Robinson, Taylor Gabriel and Anthony Miller ahead of him on the depth chart, White is competing to be the fourth spot.

SEA - RB C.J. Prosise fighting for spot

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks RB C.J. Prosise has 'looked good' during OTAs, according to head coach Pete Carroll, but Carroll said Prosise is 'battling' for a roster spot.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Prosise is clearly on the bubble this year. He's a speedy change-of-pace back who can make plays in space. It might be difficult to find a spot for him in the rotation with rookie first-round pick Rashaad Penny set to be the lead back in 2018.

    Sunday Update

ARI - RB David Johnson wasn't injured

Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafolo and Tom Pelissero

Updating previous reports, Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson did not participate in organized team activities Thursday, June 7, but he was not injured, according to multiple sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Whatever this was, it doesn't sound like a major thing. The reason for Johnson being sidelined was not disclosed and he did not address reporters after practice.

HOU - Big role for WR Will Fuller?

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans WR Will Fuller is a 'huge part' of what the Texans want to do on offense, according to wide receivers coach John Perry.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fuller is a 'lid lifter' due to his crazy speed and ability to run by defenders on deep routes. The Texans (and fantasy owners) are excited about second-year QB Deshaun Watson and Fuller should be his primary deep threat. Fuller has a current ADP of WR29 (6.08) in 12-team PPR leagues.

NYJ - Sam Darnold could be No. 3 QB

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets QB Sam Darnold could serve as the No. 3 quarterback to begin the 2018 season if QB Teddy Bridgewater wins the starting job, in the opinion of ESPNNewYork.com's Rich Cimini.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Jets could take it slow with Darnold, who is clearly their QB of the future. The 20-year old from USC has the upside of a franchise quarterback but he's got plenty to work on before he gets there. Bridgewater could be the starter for the Jets, and Josh McCown could back him up until Darnold is deemed ready.

NE - WR Dez Bryant unlikely for Patriots

    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

Free-agent WR Dez Bryant (Cowboys) probably will not be an option for the New England Patriots even if WR Julian Edelman is suspended for four games, in the opinion of ESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bryant has been out there on the open market since the Cowboys let him go earlier this offseason. Other than a reported deal with the Ravens (that he turned down), Bryant hasn't been getting any interest. That should change when training camp opens. Bryant may want to go to a contender, but it doesn't sound like the Patriots will be interested.

CLE - WR Josh Gordon could receive extension

    Source: ESPNCleveland.com - Tony Grossi

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon could be the next player in line for a contract extension, in the opinion of ESPNCleveland.com's Tony Grossi. He is scheduled to make $790,001 in 2018 and will be a restricted free agent next offseason.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Browns have some time to see if Gordon can do two things before he gets extended. First and foremost, he needs to stay out of trouble and show that he's not going to get suspended again for a drug problem. Second, Gordon needs to show that he can stay healthy and produce at a high level again.

DEN - DaeSean Hamilton flashing potential

Source: The Denver Post - Kyle Fredrickson

Denver Broncos WR DaeSean Hamilton could be a 'diamond in the rough,' according to WR Emmanuel Sanders.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hamilton doesn't lose much speed when making his breaks, and he's a refined route runner. The Penn State product will be groomed to eventually (2019?) replace Emmanuel Sanders as the team's no.2 wide receiver. He could get some work in three- and four-wide receiver packages as a rookie in 2018.

OAK - QB Derek Carr talks up WR Jordy Nelson

    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr praised WR Jordy Nelson's attention to detail and said he understands why Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers loved throwing to Nelson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Nelson may not be what he used to be, but the veteran receiver should become a favorite target of Carr in the Raiders passing game. He's got a current ADP of WR37 (8.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

SF - QB Jimmy Garoppolo delivering in red zone

Source: Sacramento Bee - Matt Barrows

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo threw touchdowns on all four of his pass attempts from inside the 9-yard in 11-on-11 drills Tuesday, June 5.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It would be fantastic if he can carry that over to the regular season in 2018. Fantasy owners are excited by what he could do in his first full season as a starter. He's getting selected as a top-10 fantasy quarterback (QB8) right now in 12-team PPR leagues.

NE - WR Cordarrelle Patterson earning high marks

Source: Boston Herald - Stephen Hewitt

New England Patriots WR Cordarrelle Patterson was called a 'talented player' by head coach Bill Belichick during OTAs, and Patterson said Belichick told him that the Patriots can make him the player that he should be.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

An interesting story here...even if nothing comes of it in the regular season. Patterson has always had insane athletic talent and perhaps those tools will finally be utilized the correct way with his new team.

I like his chances based on all the time he sat behind Brady and was coached up by Belichick and Co.
