NFL Player News - Week of 5/14/18

    Courtesy of Footballguys.com

NO - Jonathan Williams to fill the void?

    Source: NFL.com - Herbie Teope

New Orleans Saints RB Jonathan Williams was one of the players head coach Sean Payton mentioned when discussing who will step up while RB Mark Ingram is serving his suspension.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A fifth-round pick out of Arkansas in 2016, Williams lasted only one season with Buffalo. He spent 10 weeks on the Broncos practice squad in 2017 before getting dumped, but the Saints then scooped him up and kept him on the active roster. With Ingram suspended the first month of the year, we'll see if Williams can come through on the potential he still has.

NO - RB Alvin Kamara won't be overworked

    Source: NFL.com - Herbie Teope

New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara won't be overworked during RB Mark Ingram's suspension, according to head coach Sean Payton. 'By all means, we don't want to sit there and run the tread off the back with him early in the season because this thing it's a marathon, 16 games,' Payton said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kamara is going to have a larger role in 2018, especially with Mark Ingram suspended the first four games of the year. We'll see him maintain a large role even when Ingram comes back in Week 5. The Saints will continue to use a rotation of backs behind Kamara, likely led by Jonathan Williams while Ingram is out.

DET - WR Golden Tate extension talks going slow

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

The Detroit Lions and WR Golden Tate, who is entering the final year of his contract, have yet to engage in any substantive talks regarding an extension and have indicated to Tate they want to allow first-year head coach Matt Patricia some time to get to know him first, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

In the final year of his contract, Tate is scheduled to make $7 million in 2018. With his durability and consistent production, Tate could be in line for a contract that pays him over $10 million annually.

ATL - Calvin Ridley getting work all over the field

Source: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution - D. Orlando Ledbetter

Atlanta Falcons first-round WR Calvin Ridley lined up in the slot as well as outside during rookie minicamp Saturday, May 12. Ridley is also under consideration to return kickoffs and punts, according to D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ridley has the route-running ability to line up anywhere on the field. He knows how to set defenders up before making his break, and Ridley can accelerate past corners once the rock is in his hands. We're excited to see what the rookie from Alabama could do, especially with Julio Jones drawing so much coverage away. Ridley has a current ADP of WR47 (11.01) in 12-team PPR leagues.

IND - Deon Cain to have a role early?

    Source: NFL.com - Lance Zierlein

Indianapolis Colts WR Deon Cain could 'find catches as a rookie' despite being a sixth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, according to Lance Zierlein of NFL.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cain fell to the sixth round even though some felt he would be a second or third round pick. A former high school quarterback, Cain is dangerous with the ball in his hands after the catch. He's got the ability to 'stab and stash' the ball quickly so defenders don't get much of a shot at stripping the ball away. Cain did not increase his production in college with enhanced opportunity and may never be more than a quality rotational player. The upside is there to be more if he can play up to that untapped potential.

LAR - John Kelly to be the backup?

    Source: NFL.com - Lance Zierlein

Los Angeles Rams RB John Kelly's versatility as a receiver makes him a better candidate to be the backup to RB Todd Gurley than RB Malcolm Brown, according to Lance Zierlein of NFL.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kelly had 37 catches last year for the Volunteers and can stay on the field all three downs if need be. He's violent as a runner and will use his stiff arm to create space for himself. Kelly is not creative or elusive with the ball in his hands, and has more of a 'no nonsense' style of running the ball. We'll see how he compares to Brown (more of a power back) in the Rams battle for backup running back.

TB - Justin Watson impressing early

    Source: PewterReport.com - Scott Reynolds

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Justin Watson has been running 'crisp, precise routes' during rookie minicamp, according to Scott Reynolds of PewterReport.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Watson has what scouts call 'late hands' as he doesn't tip off deep passes are coming in until the final moment. He's not going to run away from many defenders, but Watson is tough and doesn't mind taking a hit to secure a catch. The Bucs have some room on the depth chart behind their top trio at wide receiver (Mike Evans, DeSean Jackson, Adam Humphries).

HOU - Jordan Thomas working on blocking

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans TE Jordan Thomas has been focusing on refining his blocking techniques during rookie minicamp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thomas is a 280 pound converted wide receiver, and blocking is not his hallmark. He is a receiving threat and can create mismatches against linebackers due to his skill set. The Texans have Ryan Griffin and Stephen Anderson at the top of the depth chart, but Thomas could compete for a spot in the rotation if he proves himself in camp.

MIA - Miami wants Mike Gesicki on the field

Source: The Miami Herald - Adam H. Beasley

Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains said they could use more sets with three tight ends this year in order to utilize TE Mike Gesicki.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gesicki takes a basketball skill set to the football field and is your prototypical 'F' receiving tight end. We'll be interested to see how Gesicki can be incorporated into the offense, especially since fellow rookie TE Durham Smythe is there as well.

IND - Nyheim Hines turning heads

    Source: Colts.com - Andrew Walker

Indianapolis Colts RB Nyheim Hines has displayed an impressive ability to catch the ball, according to head coach Frank Reich.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hines should be turning heads as he's got the 'wow' factor when touching the ball as a runner or receiver. He's got the ability to be moved all over the formation as Hines is a running back but can play slot receiver as well. Expect the Colts to mix him into the offense, making him an interesting flier pick in deep PPR leagues with 'what the heck' flex potential.

DEN - Steady role for Royce Freeman?

    Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis

Denver Broncos RB Royce Freeman will have a chance to become a '1B' back to RB Devontae Booker, according to Mike Klis of 9News.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Notice how Klis is reporting a '1B' situation. That's accurate at this time as Booker should be the lead back for the Broncos to begin training camp. However, we think Freeman is just a better talent and could overtake Booker for the lead job. We'll watch this unfold in camp as the Broncos look to replace former 1,000 yard rusher C.J. Anderson.

    Tuesday Update

NO - RB Adrian Peterson open to Saints return

    Source: ESPN.com - Josina Anderson

Free-agent RB Adrian Peterson (Cardinals) said he would be open to signing with the New Orleans Saints this offseason even though things did not work out between the two sides last season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's just an odd fit...just like it was last year. The Saints have left the door open to a return for Peterson and now he's open with it as well. Peterson didn't fit the Saints offense and was traded away last October.

DAL - Michael Gallup finding his role

Source: The Dallas Morning News - Jon Machota

Dallas Cowboys WR Michael Gallup said he is going to focus on running his routes and won't try to come in and replace WR Dez Bryant.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gallup could end up as a no.1 wide receiver for the Cowboys in the future. The speed of his transition to the pros will determine how soon he can make that sort of impact. Gallup can make acrobatic catches and has a bit of Brandon Lloyd to his game.

TB - Ronald Jones to play every down?

    Source: ESPN.com - Jenna Laine

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Ronald Jones has been catching a variety of passes during rookie minicamp and will have the opportunity to play in space and line up as a receiver in head coach Dirk Koetter's offense.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones has the type of ability that puts him on the field on all three downs. He can be a dangerous runner with the speed to score from anywhere. Jones can also be used as a receiver out of the backfield, but he can also line up in the slot if need be. It may not take long for him to ascend to the top of the depth chart for the Bucs.

NE - NE unlikely to pursue QB Johnny Manziel

    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

Free-agent QB Johnny Manziel (Browns) likely will no longer be pursued by the New England Patriots after the Patriots selected QB Danny Etling in the 2018 NFL Draft, in the opinion of ESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Etling is a camp arm for the Patriots, and he may struggle to be much more for the team or in the NFL. Manziel is trying to make a comeback to the league and the Patriots were reportedly interested. Etling's presence shouldn't prevent them from being interested in another quarterback, but Reiss is one of the most connected writers out there...so we take it as gospel.

CHI - Anthony Miller a complete receiver?

Source: Chicago Tribune - Rich Campbell

Chicago Bears WR Anthony Miller said he isn't afraid of the 'physical element' of the game and is a willing blocker in the running game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Miller had 238 career catches at Memphis and scored 37 touchdowns (32 over the last two years). He's got tremendous work ethic and will be a team-first guy who does whatever it takes to contribute. We'll see if he can make progress as a blocker, but there's no doubt he won't shy away from the work he needs to do in that area.

With all the crying he did last year about his playing time, I can’t imagine they would consider him. He just doesn’t fit their scheme.

    Wednesday Update

HOU - QB Deshaun Watson on track for camp

Source: NFL Network - Will Selva

Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson (knee) is 'on schedule to participate in training camp,' according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Knee injuries just aren't as devastating as they used to be. Watson tore his ACL in early November, and there was some speculation that he might be able to do something in OTAs this spring. He should be on track for training camp, but his level of participation has yet to be determined. We imagine the Texans will ease him into action upon his return.

MIA - QB Ryan Tannehill looking good for OTAs

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (knee) will not be limited much if he is limited at all during organized team activities next week, according to sources. The coaching staff may choose to limit him more no matter what team doctors say, though.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Don't be surprised if the Dolphins just ease Tannehill back into action. He's definitely in a make-or-break year for the Dolphins in 2018 after missing all of last year with that knee injury. Signed through the 2020 season, the Dolphins are going with Tannehill as their top guy this year since they did not select a quarterback with a premium pick in the 2018 NFL draft.

BAL - WR Breshad Perriman, TE Maxx Williams on notice

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Jeff Zrebiec

Baltimore Ravens WR Breshad Perriman and TE Maxx Williams are among those who are expected to be on the roster bubble this summer, according to Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This isn't really news as everyone following the Ravens should have been expecting this. Perriman is on notice as he's been injured for most of his pro career. A first-round pick (UCF) in 2015, Perriman has only 43 receptions during his time in the NFL. Williams, a second-round pick (Minnesota) in 2015, has been banged up too and only snared 47 passes so far as a pro. The Ravens added two quality tight ends (Hayden Hurst, Mark Andrews) in the 2018 NFL draft so Williams days may be numbered in Baltimore.

CIN - WR John Ross feeling good

    Source: Bengals.com - Geoff Hobson

Cincinnati Bengals WR John Ross told the team's official website he 'couldn't ask to feel any better' than he does at the moment and suggested this is the best he's felt since his final year of college.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A top-10 pick in the 2017 NFL draft, injuries forced Ross out of the lineup for most of the year. He played only 17 snaps over a three-game span, with zero receptions gathered on just two targets. If Ross is healthy he still has tremendous speed...and there are shades of DeSean Jackson to his game. We'll see if the second-year pro can stay healthy and play up to his high potential for the Bengals as they could certainly use a deep receiving threat like Ross.

IND - RB Terrance West visits Colts

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Free-agent RB Terrance West (Ravens) visited the Indianapolis Colts Tuesday, May 15, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Colts already have six backs on the roster, but they are lacking in experience at the position...especially after adding Nyheim Hines and Jordan Wilkins in the 2018 NFL draft. West appeared in only five games last year and averaged a career-low 3.5 yards per carry. He's gotten little interest other than a workout for the Eagles about a week ago. The Colts may just be updating their emergency list here.

    Thursday Update

CHI - WR Allen Robinson where he needs to be

    Source: ESPNChicago.com - Jeff Dickerson

Chicago Bears WR Allen Robinson (knee) is ahead of the game and looking good as he continues to recover from a torn anterior cruciate ligament he suffered in Week 1 last year.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Robinson signed a three-year, $42 million contract with the Bears this offseason to be the lead receiver. The Bears are hoping he can regain his form from 2015 when he had 1,400 yards receiving with the Jaguars. Head coach Matt Nagy said the Bears feel good about Robinson's prognosis and that he won't need to be rushed back.

IND - WR T.Y. Hilton impressing early on

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Zak Keefer

Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton has stood out so far in the offseason program and appears to be giving new head coach Frank Reich and the coaching staff his full effort.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hilton has to be re-energized after a down season in 2017 that saw him fail to reach 1,000 yards receiving for the first time in four years. He's not catching passes from QB Andrew Luck yet, but the team is hopeful to get that dynamic duo fired up again in 2018. Hilton finished 2017 as WR25 (standard-scoring leagues) but could approach top-15 numbers (or higher) if the Colts offense is clicking on all cylinders.

JAX - RB Terrance West visiting Jaguars

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Free-agent RB Terrance West (Ravens) is visiting with the Jacksonville Jaguars Wednesday, May 16.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

West has three teams (Jaguars, Colts, Eagles) interested in his services at this time. Coming off a season where he averaged a career-low 3.5 yards per carry, West isn't going to be handed any easy path to playing time. Certainly the Jaguars would only use him for veteran depth behind starter Leonard Fournette. If added, West would compete with guys like Corey Grant and T.J. Yeldon for pecking order on the depth chart.

SEA - Seahawks add Keenan Reynolds

    Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport

Free-agent WR Keenan Reynolds (Redskins) signed a deal with the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday, May 16.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A sixth-round pick out of Navy in the 2016 NFL draft for the Ravens, Reynolds is a converted college quarterback with incredible athleticism. He hasn't yet been able to stick with a team as he lasted about a year in Baltimore and about a year in Washington. We'll see if things start to click for him in the Northwest.

SEA - Rashaad Penny signs rookie deal

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny signed his four-year rookie deal on Wednesday, May 16.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Behind Saquan Barkley (Giants), Penny may be the best all-purpose back in this draft. At 220 pounds, Penny has the size to handle a big workload. He can run between the tackles but isn't a traditional bulldozer inside. Penny instead is a fluid runner who can string together multiple moves to create his own space. He's also a good receiver out of the backfield. After having a mess of a backfield for a couple of years, the Seahawks are hoping Penny can be their centerpiece at the position. Fantasy owners are drafting Penny at RB27 (6.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

BAL - Two Ravens rookies signed

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Charean Williams

Baltimore Ravens TE Mark Andrews and OT Orlando Brown Jr. signed their four-year rookie deals Wednesday, May 16. Financial terms were not disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Andrews is the player to highlight here for fantasy owners. At 6'5" 256 pounds, Andrews can create mismatches with his athleticism down the seam. He's not much of a blocker and needs work on his technique, but Andrews has good hands and should become a favorite target of his quarterback. We'd be more excited about his pro prospects if the Ravens hadn't also selected Hayden Hurst (South Carolina tight end) in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft.

OAK - Marcell Ateman inks deal

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Darin Gantt

Oakland Raiders WR Marcell Ateman signed his four-year rookie deal Wednesday, May 16. Financial terms were not disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ateman was a value pick for the Raiders in the seventh round. At 6'4" 216 pounds, Ateman's size really stands out. Turn on the tape and you see strong hands on a receiver who primarily ran '9' routes and deep outs. He's not a burner by any means, but his concentration and strong hands could make him a nice target near pay dirt. The rookie is buried on the depth chart behind guys like Amari Cooper, Jordy Nelson and Martavis Bryant. That will give him time to learn the pro game, so dynasty owners will have to be patient to see his potential pay off.

    Friday Update

ARI - RB David Johnson with lofty goals

Source: NFL Network - Will Selva

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson (wrist) said his wrist feels great, and he's aiming for 1,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Only two backs in NFL history (Roger Craig, Marshall Faulk) are members of the 1,000/1,000-club. Johnson certainly could be the next in line. With Mike McCoy running the Cardinals offense in 2018, we should see Johnson get plenty of work as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. With Sam Bradford (or rookie Josh Rosen) starting at quarterback, Johnson makes for a great relief-valve target. Fantasy owners can trust him as one of the top picks off the board in any draft/any format.

TB - RB Charles Sims will have specific role

Source: Tampa Bay Times - Greg Auman

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims is expected to be a third-down back this upcoming season because of his ability to pass protect and catch the ball out of the backfield, according to offensive coordinator Todd Monken.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sims had his shot to be the team's lead back in 2015 and those days are gone. Now, rookie Ronald Jones could emerge as the top running back for the Bucs. Jones is electric with the ball in his hands and can be dangerous as a runner or receiver out of the backfield. Sims is not as explosive with the ball but he is reliable and there's a spot for that....a spot with limited (little?) fantasy value but there is a spot.

PIT - WR Eli Rogers likely will return

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Free-agent WR Eli Rogers (knee) likely will re-sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers once he recovers from his torn anterior cruciate ligament, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That move could make a lot of sense for both sides. With Martavis Bryant (Raiders) traded away, the Steelers could use another body in the mix behind Antonio Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster. After snaring 48 catches out of the slot in 2016, Rogers wasn't used much in 2017 and only caught 18 passes. Rogers tore his ACL in the Divisional Round against the Jaguars. He may not be fully ready to go until well into the 2018 regular season.

NFL - QB Matt Moore may wait to sign

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Free-agent QB Matt Moore (Dolphins) may wait until the 2018 regular season starts before signing with a team in order to see which teams will need quarterback help, according to sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The long-time Dolphins backup is in no rush to sign. Something should come up as players get injured during camps across the league. He has received some interest from the Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans this offseason.

CHI - Coach excited about RB Tarik Cohen

Source: Chicago Sun-Times - Mark Potash

Chicago Bears RB Tarik Cohen is a player that head coach Matt Nagy is excited to work with this upcoming season. 'You see how he is in the meeting rooms -- he listens to the play and when he comes out here how serious he is and he knows how to have fun. He's a player that for me, you get giddy about,' Nagy said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Nagy is one of the most creative offensive minds in football. He'll find a way to use Cohen, perhaps with some plays/formations that he used Tyreek Hill in during his time running Kansas City's offense.

IND - WR Chester Rogers impressing coordinator

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Stephen Holder

Indianapolis Colts WR Chester Rogers has been one of the standout performers this offseason, according to offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

An important note for fantasy owners to watch here. Rogers has flashed a bit during his pro career when not slowed down by a hamstring injury. The Colts are looking for a new no.2 wide receiver with Donte Moncrief moving on to the Jaguars this offseason. Rogers may have the early lead to start opposite T.Y. Hilton.

NFL - TE Crockett Gillmore undergoes surgery

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Jeff Zrebiec

Free-agent TE/OL Crockett Gillmore (knee) needed to undergo another surgery on his knee earlier this offseason, according to sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gillmore struggled at the tight end position, and he's struggled to stay healthy as a pro. He's moving to offensive tackle according to reports that came out earlier this year. The Baltimore Ravens may have interest in re-signing Gillmore, but he would need to be able to pass a physical.

    Saturday Update

ATL - WR Julio Jones not expected at workouts

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones is not expected to report for organized team activities next week, according to sources.

Trying to put a positive spin on this, Jones not attending could will give Matt Ryan more time with rookie Calvin Ridley, which can only pay off when the regular season starts. They'll have some extra time to build chemistry.

NYG - Odell Beckham expected for voluntary OTAs

    Source: ESPN.com - Josina Anderson

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (ankle) will likely be present for the start of the offseason conditioning program on May 21 despite the fact he and the team have yet to come to terms on a contract extension, according to ESPN's Josina Anderson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is to the benefit of everyone. This offense has not been together since the beginning of last season. they need time to get in sync. We expect backup to have a pretty good bounce-back year coming off of an injury. A new offensive line will helpfully give Eli Manning time to move the ball and get it to his best receiver.

DET - RB Ameer Abdullah unlikely to contribute much

    Source: DetroitLions.com - Tim Twentyman

Detroit Lions RB Kerryon Johnson and LeGarrette Blount are expected to receive much of the early-down work with Theo Riddick playing a third-down role, potentially leaving Ameer Abdullah potentially as a game-day inactive or on the roster bubble, according to Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

And what a mess this seems to be. This looks like a full-blown committee, which could limit every single back's value. We'll have to watch how this shakes out, but it looks grim for fantasy owners.

WAS - RB Chris Thompson in line for big role?

    Source: NFL.com - Gregg Rosenthal

Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice will likely be the starter according to Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com, but Rosenthal said it 'wouldn't be a surprise' if RB Chris Thompson ended up playing more snaps this year.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thompson catches the ball well, and is a much better pass protector. So with the, not-terribly-mobile-but-not-a-statue Alex Smith under center, Washington may decide Thompson is the better bet to protect their quarterback. Guice should get plenty of carries, but Thompson may be a sneaky player to target in this offense.

NYG - WR Roger Lewis the No. 3 receiver?

    Source: NFL.com - Gregg Rosenthal

New York Giants WR Roger Lewis could emerge as the No. 3 receiver this year ahead of WR Cody Latimer, according to Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That would probably put him fourth in the pecking order at least behind Odell Beckham jr., Sterling Shepard, and Evan Engram, as well as potentially rookie Saquon Barkley.

NFL - WR Vincent Jackson retired

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Free-agent WR Vincent Jackson (Buccaneers) is retired from professional football, according to one of his representatives.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jackson had several promising parts of Seasons but never really put it all together. We wish him luck in his post football life.

KC - WR Demarcus Robinson to emerge in 2018?

    Source: NFL.com - Gregg Rosenthal

Kansas City Chiefs WR Demarcus Robinson's rapport with QB Patrick Mahomes and the presence of WR Tyreek Hill and WR Sammy Watkins on the outside should allow him to exploit defenses underneath this season, according to Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's hard to say exactly how much faith to put in second-year quarterback Mahomes. This sounds promising, but let's see this against actual defenders before we get too excited. That said it's worth noting even this early on, especially for those of you who own Mahomes in Dynasty leagues.

    Sunday Update

DAL - WR Terrance Williams arrested

Source: USA TODAY Sports - A.J. Perez

Dallas Cowboys WR Terrance Williams was arrested in Dallas Saturday, May 19, on suspicion of public intoxication. He could also be charged with fleeing the scene of an accident and striking a structure or highway landscaping depending on his involvement in a one-car accident of his Lamborghini.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This sounds like it could have been much worse, and Williams should consider himself lucky that he was able to walk away. Without Dez Bryant, the Cowboys need Williams to have a bounce back year. Last year, Williams only went over 100 yards receiving in a game once and didn't have a receiving touchdown. He needs to get healthy (currently recovering from offseason foot surgery), stay out of trouble and show that he can produce at a higher level in 2018.

CFL - QB Johnny Manziel headed to Canada

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Free-agent QB Johnny Manziel (Browns) has announced that he will be signing with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League. He is scheduled to receive a two-year contract, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Manziel's comeback tour now head up North, and it will be interesting to see what kind of play he can provide up in Canada. A first-round pick of the Browns in 2014, Manziel failed to make it in the NFL due to off-field issues. He seems to have his life back on track but won't get a ticket back to the NFL just yet. If he performs well for the Tiger-Cats (and stays out of trouble) then perhaps there will be a team that takes a chance on Manziel in the NFL once again.

ATL - WR Julio Jones wants contract update

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones is not expected to participate in organized team activities in part because he wants the team to update his contract.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We should see the Falcons move to get something done with the superstar receiver. He's got three years left on his deal and doesn't hit free agency until 2021. Jones has been in regular contact with head coach Dan Quinn and the team is open to updating Jones' contract. Jones is scheduled to make $10.5 million in 2018.

CHI - Three Bears may be camp PUP candidates

Source: Chicago Tribune - Brad Biggs

Chicago Bears WR Allen Robinson (knee), LB Leonard Floyd (knee) and OG Kyle Long (elbow, neck, shoulder) could all start training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list, in the opinion of The Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Robinson is the player fantasy owners are monitoring closely here. All reports about Robinson's recovery have been positive and Bears coach Matt Nagy said Robinson is "ahead of the game" in his rehab.
