NFL Player News - Week of 4/23/18

    Courtesy of Footballguys.com

    Ravens | Willie Snead terms
Updating an earlier report, Baltimore Ravens WR Willie Snead's two-year deal is worth $7 million and can be worth up to $10.4 million. He receives a $2 million signing bonus and an additional $1 million base salary is guaranteed for 2018.

Cowboys | Dallas hoping to help Dak Prescott
The Dallas Cowboys will try to make QB Dak Prescott more productive in 2018 by making some 'tweaks' to the offense, according to executive vice president Stephen Jones.

Cowboys | Rico Gathers still developing
Dallas Cowboys TE Rico Gathers remains a 'work in progress,' according to executive vice president Stephen Jones, but Jones said he loves Gathers' upside.

Raiders | Oakland to pick up Amari Cooper's option
Oakland Raiders WR Amari Cooper is expected to have his fifth-year option picked up soon, according to a source.

Broncos | Denver primed to draft a RB?
Denver Broncos general manager and executive vice president of football operations John Elway hinted his team will draft at least one running back in this week's NFL Draft.
Footballguys view: Denver is set to take Saquon Barkley (Penn State) if he's on the board when they select at No.5 overall. If not Barkley, this deep and talented class could net them a starting caliber running back in the second or third round. We think Devonta Booker's time at the top of the depth chart is going to be short lived.

Patriots | Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski likely back in 2018
New England Patriots QB Tom Brady and TE Rob Gronkowski are expected to return to the team in 2018 despite their absences from voluntary workouts this month, per a source with 'knowledge of the situation' according to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio.
    Footballguys view
: These workouts are voluntary, but this situation is ...interesting to say the least. With Brady and Gronkowski back in action, fantasy owners can expect them to play up to their QB1 and TE1 levels respectively.

    Tuesday Update

    Seahawks | Sebastian Janikowski terms
Updating previous reports, Seattle Seahawks PK Sebastian Janikowski received a one-year, $2.015 million deal. He'll receive a $1.015 million base salary, a $600,000 signing bonus and a $100,000 bonus if he's on the 53-man roster Week 1. He'll also receive $300,000 in per-game active roster bonuses.

Packers | Green Bay could move up
The Green Bay Packers will try to trade up in the first round of the NFL draft to take a defensive back, according to beat writer Rob Demovsky. Ohio State CB Denzel Ward, Alabama S Minkah Fitzpatrick and Florida State S Derwin James are on the Packers' radar.

Chargers | No talks with Antonio Gates and Chargers
Free-agent TE Antonio Gates (Chargers) hasn't had any recent contact with the Los Angeles Chargers, according to general manager Tom Telesco.
Footballguys view: It's likely the end of an era with the Chargers. Undrafted out of Kent State in 2003, Gates has been part of the revolution at the tight end position. He never played college football but was a college basketball star. Gates used that basketball skill set to dominate during his heyday on the football field. It will be sad to see him in another uniform, but it sounds like Gates is not quite ready to hang up his cleats.

Browns | Baker Mayfield in the mix at No. 1
Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield is definitely in the conversation for the Cleveland Browns to take No. 1 in the NFL draft, according to one NFL executive.
Footballguys view: The Browns are throwing everything against the wall to see if someone wants to give up the farm to trade back. Mayfield is likely the pick for the Jets at No.3 overall. The Jets moved up once already, from No.6 to No.3, so moving again wouldn't make sense. At the end of the day, the Browns may have to keep the pick and go with a quarterback like Josh Allen (Wyoming) or Sam Darnold (USC).

49ers | Jimmy Garoppolo holding throwing sessions
San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo started holding weekend throwing sessions with his teammates, in which wide receivers, running backs and tight ends are invited. He held the first one with the 49ers on Saturday, April 21, with WR Pierre Garcon among those who showed up. 'It kind of gets us away from the coaches and everything, allows me to talk to the receivers about specific things,' Garoppolo said. 'Talking through routes, concepts -- how they see it vs. how I see it -- it just gets us on the same page.'
Footballguys view: The future looks bright for Garoppolo and the 49ers this year. With a full season as their starter, Garoppolo could get the team into the Wild Card conversation.

Buccaneers | Bucs HC sees 'big leap' from O.J. Howard
Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE O.J. Howard has the potential to 'take a big leap' in his second year, according to head coach Dirk Koetter, who added that 'there are so, so many little things that he can do better.'
Footballguys view: Message for fantasy owners here looking for tight end help. Howard should take that next step in his career, and his quarterback Jameis Winston loves using the tight end early and often. We should all consider Howard a TE2 with TE1 upside if all things come together for him in 2018.

NFL | Sony Michel an injury concern?
University of Georgia RB Sony Michel could drop in this week's NFL Draft due to medical reasons, according to The Ringer's Mike Lombardi.
Footballguys view: Michel is a second-round pick and might end up in the late first...unless these injuries concerns keep him on the second day. When healthy, Michel reminds many in the scouting community of LeSean McCoy. He's electric with the ball in his hands and finishes his runs in a physical style.

Chargers | Melvin Gordon's option picked up
Los Angeles Chargers RB Melvin Gordon's fifth-year option is being picked up Monday, April 23, according to general manager Tom Telesco.
Footballguys view: Gordon played for a full 16-game season for the first time last year, and it came as no surprise that he was able to rush for over 1,000 yards by staying healthy. Add in his near-60 receptions and you can see how Gordon is basically the centerpiece of what the Chargers want to do on offense. They may add a back in the draft because it's a deep and talented class, but Gordon should continue to carry the main load for the Chargers in 2018.

Ravens | Baltimore out on Dez Bryant
Free-agent WR Dez Bryant (Cowboys) will not be signed by the Baltimore Ravens in light of the signing of WR Willie Snead, as expected.
Footballguys view: The Ravens decided to go in a different direction. They've completely revamped the WR corps with Snead, Michael Crabtree and John Brown all added to the roster this offseason.

Patriots | New England likes Lamar Jackson
Louisville QB Lamar Jackson left the New England Patriots intrigued and impressed following his pre-draft visit.
Footballguys view: The Patriots will consider drafting Jackson if he is still available at pick No. 23, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. With two first-round picks, the Patriots have the firepower to move up in the draft if they have to. Jackson could be selected and groomed as the heir apparent behind Tom Brady.

Cardinals | Arizona may not trade for early pick
Arizona Cardinals general manager Steve Keim is open to a first-round trade, but it's more likely to occur if a quarterback the Cardinals like slips into the double digits.
Footballguys view: Arizona is not expected to trade up into the first few picks for a quarterback. In Monday's edition of MMQB, Peter King guesses that Arizona will move up from 15 to No.5 overall in a trade with the Denver Broncos. In that scenario, King has QB Baker Mayfield falling to that point. Not only do we think he's not there, but we also believe the Broncos themselves would think long and hard about the Sooners QB they've shown a TON of interest in during the pre-draft process.

Bills | Buffalo unlikely to trade with Giants
Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane is not expected to trade up to the No. 2 spot in the NFL draft with the New York Giants, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Footballguys view: The price tag for No.2 overall has been deemed too high. Not only do we hear that from the Buffalo side, but the Jets reportedly didn't like that price tag so they moved up to No.3 overall instead. Buffalo is more likely to trade up at pick five or six if they like a quarterback that is still available.

Chargers | Tyrell Williams signs tender
Los Angeles Chargers restricted free-agent WR Tyrell Williams signed his tender Monday, April 23, according to a source.
Footballguys view: With a second-round tender on him, Williams did not get signed away. He'll earn $2.9 million in 2018 while facing competition from second-year pro (and 2017 first-round pick) Mike Williams for time/targets opposite Keenan Allen.

Raiders | Amari Cooper's option officially picked up
Oakland Raiders WR Amari Cooper's fifth-year option was officially exercised Monday, April 23. His contract is now extended through 2019.
Footballguys view: Cooper had a down season in 2017, but many expect him to have a bounce-back year as the focal point of the Raiders offense. He needs to improve his concentration and his consistency as a pass catcher. Cooper has all the physical talent in the world but needs to provide his quarterback with a quality option no matter the situation.

Mark my words. This will be one of the worst QB drafts in recent memory when all is said and done. Allen needs a lot of work. Great arm, but that is as far as it goes. Darnold simply does not have it physically and is very prone to turnovers. Rosen is a typical California rich kid who is too fragile to last in the NFL. Add that to his big mouth, and he is worthless. Mayfield is too small and a potential head case. Jackson is not suited to be an NFL QB. Mason Rudolph may be the best of the lot. Notice how NONE of these QB's are projected to start in 2018. This is nothing more than the usual Bull S**t hype to try and get people to tune in and watch a product which continues to get worse and worse.

gronk has remained relatively healthy the last few years. i don't know how he lasts though because 90% people who tackle him go for his knees. saw some hits last year that i don't know how there wasn't damage done.

    Wednesday Update

Colts | Andrew Luck not throwing
Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (shoulder) is participating in every part of minicamp except throwing, according to head coach Frank Reich.

Browns | CLE cooling on Sam Darnold
USC QB Sam Darnold is receiving diminished interest from the Cleveland Browns, according to sources.

NFL | Dez Bryant to sign after draft
Free-agent WR Dez Bryant (Cowboys) is likely to sign after the NFL draft.

Ravens | Breshad Perriman future in doubt
Baltimore Ravens WR Breshad Perriman is unlikely to have his fifth-year option picked up and could be traded or released before the team has to pay Perriman a $649,485 bonus due on the third day of training camp, according to ESPN's Jamison Hensley.

Vikings | Minnesota pleased with Dalvin Cook's rehab
Minnesota Vikings RB Dalvin Cook (knee) has been doing some work on the field since spring drills began April 16, and athletic trainer Eric Sugarman confirmed his recover from a torn left ACL in Week 4 last season is going well.
Footballguys view: Cook should be good to go for the start of training camp, and he should be nearly 100 percent healthy by the start of the regular season. He looked like a special player in this league and a RB1 for fantasy owners before sustaining this injury.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski playing this year
New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski announced Tuesday, April 24, that he will be playing in 2018, as expected.
Footballguys view: This is what most thought, even with Gronkowski being unclear about his intentions to play in 2018. The Patriots are still in a Super Bowl window so long as Tom Brady is their quarterback, and Gronkowski can be a key piece for the team if healthy.

Bears | Matt Forte, Devin Hester retire as Bears
Former New York Jets RB Matt Forte and former Seattle Seahawks WR Devin Hester were placed on the Reserve/Retired list as members of the Chicago Bears Tuesday, April 24.

Jets | Teddy Bridgewater may not make team
New York Jets QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) is not a lock to make the Jets' final roster if he doesn't show he can stay healthy, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.
Footballguys view: Bridgewater only signed a one-year deal with the Jets. The former first-round pick is no lock for the final roster with the Jets, especially since they're likely to select a franchise quarterback with the No.3 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft.

Dolphins | DeVante Parker's option picked up
Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker's fifth-year option was exercised, as expected, Tuesday, April 24.
Footballguys view: Parker gets a salary of around $9 million in 2019...that is only guaranteed for injury. He's coming off a down season, but with the Dolphins trading away Jarvis Landry (Browns) it should lead to more opportunities for Parker in 2018.

Giants | Paul Perkins has arm in sling
New York Giants RB Paul Perkins (pectoral) suffered a pectoral injury while training and was seen with his arm in a sling Tuesday, April 24.
Footballguys view: The team is likely to move on from Perkins. He had a bit of an opportunity last year but failed to take advantage of that situation. This offseason, the Giants added veteran RB Jonathan Stewart in free agency. They'll also select a running back in this deep and talented class. In fact, the Giants may select Penn State RB Saquon Barkley with the No.2 overall pick.

    Thursday Update

Panthers | Greg Olsen signing extension
Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen will sign a two-year extension Thursday, April 26, worth $8.55 million per season with a maximum value of up to $10.05 million per year. He could become the highest-paid tight end in the league.
Footballguys view: As one of the few remaining weapons standing near Cam Newton, this was important for Carolina to get locked down. Olsen is a good tight end who can produce nice fantasy numbers each year and yet often flies under the radar.

Giants | Paul Perkins had surgery
Updating previous reports, New York Giants RB Paul Perkins (pectoral) had surgery on a torn pectoral muscle. The extent of his injury and timetable are unknown.
Footballguys view: The Giants aren't going to lean on Perkins anyway with Jonathan Stewart signed, plus a new running back from sometime during the NFL Draft. Ge's goign to have to fight for a roster spot.

Buccaneers | Charles Sims re-ups with Bucs
Free-agent RB Charles Sims (Buccaneers) agreed to a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Thursday, April 26. Financial terms weren't disclosed.
Footballguys view: Sims is a decent part of an RBBC, with some upside, but we think he'll be battling with a rookie this summer for reps.

Browns | Baker Mayfield pick gaining steam
Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield is the player head coaches and general managers around the league believe will be taken by the Cleveland Browns at No. 1 in the NFL draft.
Footballguys view: Monday it was Sam Darnold. Tuesday was Josh Allen. Wednesday was Darnold again. Now Mayfield. At this point would anybody be shocked by Mason Rudolph on Day 2? Kidding aside, Mayfield is a good pick here for the Browns. He is mobile in a way similar to Tyrod Taylor so you can start installing the offense now and not miss a beat when you make a change. He's fiery, which will excite the fanbase and he is highly accurate.

Ravens | Dez Bryant declined Ravens
Free-agent WR Dez Bryant (Cowboys) turned down a multi-year deal from the Baltimore Ravens, according to former ESPN reporter Ed Werder. Bryant is seeking a one-year deal and an opportunity to earn a bigger contract as a free agent next year.
Footballguys view: Bryant is betting on himself, which makes sense considering his personality, but could cost him money this year and down the line if his skills and physical talent are eroding. The Ravens went after Willie Snead as a restricted free agent instead, likely foreclosing any possibility that they sign Bryant. He will have a limited market for his services after the draft.

NFL | C.J. Anderson has interest
Free-agent RB C.J. Anderson (Broncos) has drawn interest from eight teams, according to 9news.com's Mike Klis. There is no timeline on a potential signing, however.
    Footballguys view
: Anderson won't get signed before the draft, and this deep and talented class will surely remove some of those eight teams from the list. He'll be a committee back this year and his value on the decline after being released.

yes, probably the favorites on paper. Don't forget, our 1st and 2nd round picks from last year(WR Mike Williams and OL Forrest Lamp), will essentially be like new draft picks...Lamp tore his ACL before the season started and Williams barely played due to back injury...so the offense gets an influx of talent as well...

The Chargers have a lot of blue chip talent on defense, very excited to see them flying around this upcoming season!!

    Friday Update

    2018 Draft Winners and Losers

The first round is in the books, and while the second day will still shake up the fantasy landscape, we can still gauge the early winners and losers from the first day fallout.

    Winners

    Jarvis Landry, WR, CLE
    - Baker Mayfield is outstanding at making quick, accurate, short throws, and that’s where Landry succeeds. He might not approach the triple-digit reception numbers he posted in Miami right away, but Landry’s future appears brighter with Mayfield than it would have with Josh Allen or probably even Sam Darnold. If the Browns don’t keep Josh Gordon and/or Corey Coleman long term, Landry could be even more central in the pass offense. He has a real chance to live up to his contract with fantasy WR1 production in 2-3 years with Mayfield throwing him the ball, assuming rational coaching from Todd Haley and Hue Jackson (don’t laugh).

Eli Manning, QB, NYG - Manning is still just a fringe matchup bye/injury quarterback in redraft leagues and tournament play in DFS, but the addition of Saquon Barkley to his offense enhances his weekly ceiling via the advanced pass catching skills. Odell Beckham, Sterling Shepard, Evan Engram, and Barkley comprise one of the most varied and youngest sets of core weapons in the passing game and give Pat Shurmur and Mike Shula something to emphasize in their scheme, which can only add to Manning’s bottom line.

Robby Anderson, WR, NYJ - There’s a place here for Quincy Enunwa, Ardarius Stewart and Chad Hansen here in deeper dynasty leagues, too. Of course this mostly applies in dynasty leagues, Darnold falling to #3 after widely being considered the favorite to go #1 is a win for Anderson in redraft because of the upgrade in deep passing if Josh McCown gets hurt again. Teddy Bridgewater was still more of a unknown, while Darnold can take shots downfield even after having to outlast the rush in the pocket or after extending the play. Even though it was a foregone conclusion that Anderson and company were going to get a rookie quarterback, they got a 20-year-old who has a lot of room to grow who should err on the side of taking chances and can create fantasy value for his receivers early in his career a la Jameis Winston.

Carlos Hyde, Duke Johnson, RB, CLE - Saquon Barkley didn’t fall to #4 and the Browns backfield is intact… for now. They could still take a running back from this deep class on the second or third day that will complicate the short and long term picture, but Hyde and Johnson’s 2018 redraft value is much more likely to maintain its level through the weekend than Peyton Barber, Devontae Booker, and Marlon Mack, the other current “starters” on teams that were in play for Barkley if the Giants passed on him.

Andrew Luck, QB, IND - Luck still needs to, you know, throw a football to have value in 2018, but Quenton Nelson is an instant impact offensive lineman who gives the team increased flexibility to deploy the rest of their line in a more effective way. He is the best at pass blocking, he is the best at run blocking. The whole Colts offense gets a lift from this pick being invested in the offensive line instead on defense with off ball linebacker Roquan Smith, who was linked heavily to the team in mock drafts this week.

Larry Fitzgerald, WR, ARI - How many games should we be expecting from Sam Bradford? Last year, we got two. Mike Glennon was the backup to Bradford going into Thursday night, and it should be Rosen sooner than later. Rosen is the best pure pocket passer in this class and Fitzgerald has maintained a big share of his value with much worse lined up under center. His redraft stock is bolstered with the Cardinals successful trade up.

Allen Hurns, WR, DAL - The Cowboys will surely add a receiver on day two, but the caliber of receiver and team investment in the rookie(s?) isn’t first-round, and that gives Hurns a greater chance to staying atop the pecking order, assuming he riffs with his new quarterback. Considering that he had a 1000 yard/10 touchdown season with Blake Bortles, Hurns should adjust to Dak Prescott just fine.

Tom Brady, QB, NE - There wasn’t a stud left tackle on the board to replace Nate Solder, so the Patriots stayed put at 23 and 31 and took a pair of Georgia Bulldogs. Isaiah Wynn will likely instantly improve the line and could stay at his college position of left tackle or shift over to the right side, either way being an upgrade from the motley crew on the roster at tackle right now. Sony Michel can contribute as much as a receiver as he does as a runner and he only makes Brady’s job of moving the offense down the field easier.

Ozzie Newsome, GM, BAL - For his encore, Newsome played the draft to the tune of jumping picks up 89 and 90 slots in the draft to the third and fourth round of this year’s draft and still getting Hayden Hurst to restore the team’s tight end depth chart, and then gave up only a 2019 second to use this year’s second to land the team’s quarterback of the future, Lamar Jackson - while gaining a fifth-year option by getting him at #32. As a Steelers fan, I won’t miss Newsome running the show on draft day in Baltimore.

Derek Carr, QB, OAK - Martavis Bryant will extend the field and he might make up for the net loss of going from Michael Crabtree to Jordy Nelson in one of Carr's wide receiver spots. Bryant can at least help create room for Nelson and Amari Cooper, and will likely add some splash plays to a pass offense that lacked a dangerous #3 option last year.

Cam Newton, QB, CAR - Newton not only got his tight end extended for two more years on Thursday, he gained the top drafted wide receiver, and one that should help at multiple wide receiver positions and levels of the passing game. Moore helps Newton’s long-term picture even more than his short-term outlook, while he does make 2017 second-rounder Curtis Samuel seem like a wasted pick as he’s coming back from an ankle injury.

Matt Ryan, QB, ATL - Ryan was a disappointment in 2017, but the addition of Calvin Ridley should boost his value immediately. Ridley is one of the most NFL ready receivers in the draft, and he can provide a downfield threat in addition to an excellent option on timing routes, including out of the slot. Steve Sarkisian should be a better playcaller in his second year and adding Ridley makes more of the options at his fingertips the right call.

    Losers

    Wayne Gallman, RB, NYG
    - The Giants were probably taking a running back in the first three rounds this year, but Saquon Barkley’s arrival ensures that Gallman will be one of the least used #2 backs in the league. Gallman still flashed sure hands as a pass catcher and finished on a high note as a runner, but might be a draft pick room cut in dynasty leagues with a four year wait for relevance unless Barkley goes down.

LeSean McCoy, QB, BUF - McCoy got a quarterback who could sit for a year, and then his team traded up in the first round again, only to take a linebacker. He lost three members of his offensive line this offseason, and probably the three best in center Eric Wood, guard Richie Incognito, and left tackle Cordy Glenn. It looked like it might be a long year for McCoy when Anquan Boldin retired and Sammy Watkins got traded last summer, but they overcame with Tyrod Taylor and made the playoffs. It’s even more difficult to see McCoy making something out of this situation this year, and he’s a year older.

Rex Burkhead, RB, NE - Burkhead was in line for the most valuable role in the Patriots backfield before Bill Belichick uncharacteristically spent a first-round pick on a running back. Sony Michel will probably take up the touches vacated by Dion Lewis instead having some of them fatten Burkhead’s weekly opportunity. He could still have weekly value via touchdowns if he holds off Jeremy Hill and Mike Gillislee to keep goal line looks, but Michel could also figure into the picture there and rob him of scores.

Joe Flacco, QB, BAL - Flacco should still have 2018 to pilot the Ravens pass offense, and Michael Crabtree, John Brown, and Willie Snead are probably better than what he had to throw to last year, but Lamar Jackson could also take over at some point this year if Flacco falters or the Ravens offense stalls out. For the long haul, Flacco should get another opportunity to start, but his brief time in the limelight is small in the rearview mirror. I hope Jim Caldwell got a cut of his huge contract.

Chris Carson, RB, SEA - Let’s be fair, none of us were going to be eager to invest in the Seahawks running game in fantasy drafts, but any chance Carson would have to carry over his not-so-bad-in-hindsight early season numbers to 2018 evaporated when the Seahawks shocked everyone by taking Rashaad Penny in the first round. Penny will have a lot of buzz in fantasy circles as a first-rounder, but his pass blocking is an adventure to say the least, which keeps rookies off of the field. The Seattle backfield and running game remains off limits for fantasy despite the investment.

Mohamed Sanu, WR, ATL - Sanu generated surprising value for a long stretch of 2018 and was in line to be a more frequently targeted #2 option with the Falcons allowing Taylor Gabriel to walk in free agency without acquiring anyone significant to replace him. Ridley is very significant as a superior route runner to Sanu and better vertical threat. He could supplant Sanu as the #2 option by the end of the season.

Yes I'm surprised he went in round 1, I anticipated he would go in round 2...it wasn't that big of a reach but they have a lot of holes on that team including oline...I'm not sure I like the fit for Penny but obviously hoping for the best for him.

Who knows if this is true but I did read that a team called Seattle right after they picked Penny and was trying to trade for him. Seattle traded down earlier in the round from #18 and by all accounts were going to pick him there if they couldn't find a trade partner. Additionally, I read that The Browns LOVED Penny and were probably going to pick him #33 with the first selection of the second round.

As I said before, I don't love the situation he is going into in Seattle. Other than Russell Wilson, there's not a lot to like about that offense. Hopefully Wilson and Penny can work some magic in the Pacific Northwest.

While Seattle's run game has been non existent, their problem offensively the past few seasons has been their horrible offensive line. Hopefully left tackle Duane Brown they traded for late last year can regain pro bowl form.

    Saturday Update

Dolphins | Mike Gesicki needs to develop
Miami Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki needs to improve as an in-line blocker, according to general manager Chris Grier, but Grier said it is normal for tight ends with big frames to need time to develop that part of their game.

Browns | Nick Chubb fits the offense
Cleveland Browns RB Nick Chubb's physical running style 'exemplifies' what the offense needs, according to head coach Hue Jackson.

Ravens | Lamar Jackson will be understudy
Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson will not unseat QB Joe Flacco as the team's starter in 2018, according to head coach John Harbaugh. 'Joe Flacco is our quarterback, and that's the thing that you've got to remember. Lamar's gonna have a great chance to develop. I think you get to this stage in a quarterback's career, you see it done in New England and you've seen it done in a lot of places,' Harbaugh said.

Redskins | Washington confident in Derrius Guice
Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice can do it all from the running back position, according to head coach Jay Gruden, and Gruden said he 'felt good' about selecting Guice after speaking to him and his agent.

Steelers | Mason Rudolph ready to learn
Pittsburgh Steelers QB Mason Rudolph said he doesn't think it is QB Ben Roethlisberger's job to teach him anything but his job to learn from him. 'That's the way I am going to look at it,' Rudolph said.
Footballguys view: Rudolph has a lot to learn and will have plenty of time. Roethlisberger wants to play three more years and Rudolph will only be signed for four, so he has to prove he is worthy of the job with very few snaps to show it.

NFL | Antonio Gates wants to play in 2018
Free-agent TE Antonio Gates (Chargers) said Friday, April 27, that he wants to continue playing, even though the Los Angeles Chargers informed him in the offseason that they do not intend to sign him.
Footballguys view: They want to get Hunter Henry go, and most fantasy owners want the same. Could Gates end up somewhere like Dallas for a year? He's just about tapped out, but is capable of the odd good game still.

Patriots | Several RB battling for one spot?
New England Patriots RBs Brandon Bolden, Mike Gillislee and Jeremy Hill might be competing for one spot with the chance one gets cut even before training camp.
Footballguys view: It's going to depend on how rookie Sony Michel looks. Neither Bolden nor Gillislee did anything last season and Hill is coming off an injury plagued year. There's a lot of potential but any or all three could be packing it in come September.

Texans | Jordan Akins to have a role on offense
Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien said he is excited about what TE Jordan Akins can do in the passing game.
Footballguys view: He needs someone to help out when DeAndre Hopkins is covered and hasn't quite found the answer yet, especially at tight end.

Ravens | Mark Andrews lands in Baltimore
The Baltimore Ravens selected Oklahoma TE Mark Andrews with the 86th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
Footballguys view: A receiver in a tight end's body, Andrews is a huge mismatch against linebackers and safeties. He;s not much of an in-line tight end, and not a proven blocker.

Cowboys | Michael Gallup lands in Big D
The Dallas Cowboys selected Colorado State WR Michael Gallup with the 81st overall selection in the 2018 NFL Draft.
Footballguys view: Mike Mayock called him a "poor man's DJ Moore" and the shoe fits. A natural athlete with the burst and athleticism to get open, Gallup is really raw and struggles with keeping on his routes and not drifting, has his focus wane at times but he has improved and the best could be yet to come.

Broncos | Devontae Booker to remain top RB?
Denver Broncos RB Royce Freeman will likely compete with RB Devontae Booker for the starting role, according to Mike Klis of 9News.com, but Klis expects Booker to open the season as the starter.
Footballguys view: Booker hasn't caught the confidence of the staff completely and Freeman does so much right, he really could have a big role early on.

Steelers | Pittsburgh selects James Washington
The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Oklahoma State WR James Washington with the 60th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft Friday, April 27.
Footballguys view: Washington is a vertical threat who should do well going deep for the Steelers. He's of course got Antonio Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster well ahead of him, but his ball skills could get him some work despite that.

Eagles | Philly selects Dallas Goedert
The Philadelphia Eagles selected South Dakota State TE Dallas Goedert with the 49th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft Friday April 27.
Footballguys view: Which was better shade? David Akers mocking the Dallas fans with the Eagles Super Bowl or the Eagles grabbing a tight end the Cowboys wanted, in Dallas' own house, who is also named Dallas? They just lost Trey Burton, but Goedert is a very athletic tight end who can really produce some huge plays. That was vicious, Philadelphia.

49ers | San Fran moves up in Round 2
The San Francisco 49ers drafted WR Dante Pettis in Round 2 with the 44th overall pick. They acquired the 44th and 142nd overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft in a deal with the Washington Redskins, who added the 59th and 74th picks.
Footballguys view: A decent trade which benefits both of those teams and gives the Niners some help for Jimmy Garoppolo.

    Sunday Update

Bills | Buffalo not pursuing Dez Bryant
Free-agent WR Dez Bryant (Cowboys) won't be pursued by the Buffalo Bills, according to general manager Brandon Beane. 'If we thought that was the right fit for us, we definitely would potentially pursue it,' Beane said.

Bengals | Cincinnati brings in Quinton Flowers
Undrafted free-agent QB Quinton Flowers (South Florida) reportedly agreed to terms with the Cincinnati Bengals Saturday, April 28.

Colts | Marlon Mack in a committee?
Indianapolis Colts RB Marlon Mack is not the clear starter, according to head coach Frank Reich. 'I'm fine with running back by committee,' Reich said.

Colts | No contract for J.T. Barrett
Updating a previous report, undrafted free-agent QB J.T. Barrett (Ohio State) did not agree to a deal with the Indianapolis Colts but will participate in the Colts rookie minicamp on a tryout basis, according to general manager Chris Ballard.

Eagles | Darren Sproles back with Philly
Free-agent RB Darren Sproles (Eagles) agreed to terms with the Philadelphia Eagles Saturday, April 28. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Cowboys | Bo Scarbrough headed to Big D
The Dallas Cowboys selected Alabama RB Bo Scarbrough with the 236th overall pick (Round 7) in the 2018 NFL Draft.
Footballguys view: Many in the scouting community say Scarbrough has the body of a linebacker, and he takes a linebacker's mentality to the offensive side of the ball. Scarbrough has some power to his game and he works well in the screen game. He could work as a complementary back for the Cowboys behind Ezekiel Elliott.

Raiders | Oakland acquires Ryan Switzer
The Oakland Raiders acquired WR Ryan Switzer from the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday, April 28, in exchange for DE Jihad Ward.
Footballguys view: Switzer is the player dynasty owners (in super deep leagues) like. He's a quick, shifty slot receiver who has a bit of Danny Amendola to his game. The Raiders have a stacked group of WRs, adding Jordy Nelson in free agency and trading for both Switzer and Martavis Bryant during the 2018 NFL draft.

Colts | Teams looked to acquire Andrew Luck
Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck was a trade target for a few teams, but the Colts did not consider any trade offers, according to owner Jim Irsay.
Footballguys view: What you can take away from this is multiple teams think Luck plays again, and probably this year. Which is good news for the Colts and Luck's fantasy owners.

Cowboys | Cedrick Wilson lands in Metroplex
The Dallas Cowboys chose Boise State WR Cedrick Wilson with the 208th overall pick (Round 6) in the NFL Draft.
Footballguys view: Wilson is still raw as he's only been a receiver four years, only two of which were at a major college. He improved a lot from Junior to Senior year, and will get better as time goes on. He could eventually be a solid slot receiver but it will take time.

Dolphins | Mike Gesicki may start early
Miami Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki has a good chance to start as a rookie since the team released TE Julius Thomas earlier this offseason.
Footballguys view: The Dolphins are looking for a starting move tight end, and Gesicki could be a good fit. Whether Ryan Tannehill can take advantage of his ability is another matter entirely.

If someone wanted Luck, they should have unloaded him. He will never be an elite QB due to the severity of his injury.

there is no bombshell news but apparently he is viewed as high maintenance...stealthy and his skins might have got a steal at the end of round 2.
