    I am to young to remember trumps try at a league in the summer 15 or so years ago. Why did it fail?

    No, but he did own a team in the old USFL. That lasted for 3 years. Trump paid some huge salaries to players to sign with his team, and tried unsucessfully to sue the NFL.

    ESPN did a pretty good documentary on it last year I think. It was called "Who killled the USFL?"

    The USFL might have made it if they had stayed with their original model of playing in the spring and sticking with minimal salaries. Trump started a bidding war, and all of the other teams joined in. If Trump understood that it was league vs. league, just as much or more than team vs. team, then things might be different.

    Trump didn't start the USFL, he bought a USFL team in year 2 and eventually helped lead to USFL's ruin.
