Despite being introduced as the starting running back in the New England Patriots‘ season opener Thursday night, running back Dion Lewis did not touch the ball all that often in the 42-27 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Mike Gillislee and James White figured more prominently in the Patriots’ rushing attack, and a couple days later, it’s been reported by Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald that teams have shown interest in trading for Lewis.

According to Howe’s report, teams began to look into the possibility in the offseason, but the Patriots are not actively looking to make a deal involving the sixth-year back out of Pittsburgh. A possible influence from New England’s standpoint may have been the health of Gillislee and Rex Burkhead, who both missed time during the preseason due to injury.
