One of the Pittsburgh Steelers‘ cornerstone players, Cam Heyward agreed to help the franchise out with some short-term accounting on Wednesday.

The seventh-year defensive end restructured his contract to create some more cap space for the Steelers, and Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reports this adjustment freed up over $3 million in space. This restructure converted approximately $5 million of Heyward’s base salary into a signing bonus, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.

This will put more money on future Steelers caps, but for now, it gives the franchise some breathing room.

The Steelers had more than $11 million in cap room before the Heyward restructure, per Fowler. Heyward’s 2017 cap figure previously resided at $10.4 million. That will be reduced, with the signing bonus being split onto future Pittburgh payrolls.
