Current DirecTV Customers - Possible Way You Could Get NFL Sunday Ticket 2017 Free

Just wanted to share some advice that could help save you $ on your DirecTV bill.

So... I noticed this commercial on Channel 285 on DirecTV a few days ago....

So my take on this was.... if you were on a lower tier package and didn't have ESPN... you could upgrade basically to Choice Package Free for 90 days. So it would basically give you all the sports channels at the "Select" (lower tier) rate.

    1. I called up DirecTV.

    2. Always ask for "Retention Department". Just tell the automated service you want to "Cancel DirecTV Acct."

So I explained the story to the DirecTV rep... that I noticed this advertisement and I wanted to upgrade. She said I can actually save you more money. I said ok... tell me how?

How does $30.00 off any package sound for 12 months? I said... well... I'm already on a 2 year agreement. And I'm entering my 2nd year now... can you still do this? She said absolutely. I said... well... I don't want to extend my contract. I said my contract is up in July 2018.... and naturally don't want to extend it. She said no problem sir... it won't be extended.

Then I paused for like 5-8 seconds... I said well... let me think about it.

She said I can sweeten the deal. I said how? She goes how does NFL Sunday Ticket 2017 sound for free? I said... are you sure you won't extend my contract? She said no sir. I said... well.... you're going to save me $30.00 a month for 12 months... and give me NFL Sunday Ticket for free? How can I say no?

    So I took the deal.

    Already added to my acct.

My advice is.... just call up DirecTV.... ask for "Retention Department". If you aren't familiar with what a retention department means... it's basically a division set up in most companies... that is designed to KEEP YOU AS A CUSTOMER. They think you called them because you are disconnecting. So, they want to keep you... and they will kiss your a$$. I had zero intentions on disconnecting... and it was never discussed in the conversation. She just assumed I was going to.... probably because I questioned that "newest promotion with ESPN."

So if you guys have a chance to call DirecTV.... give it a shot. Save some money... and try and get your NFL Sunday Ticket for FREE!

    Good luck gang!

Directv always hands out the Sunday Ticket with little effort. The only people who pay for it are businesses and morons.

You don't ask for the "Retention Department" -- you simply keep saying "cancel my account" or "representative please" until they patch you through to the Retention Department.

If they know you're asking for the Retention Department, that means they know you're playing games in order for them to "retain" you, which will make them less likely to take you seriously.

7 Minutes total time. She was actually very fast. She was American and white.

Again, I had zero intentions on getting Sunday Ticket this year. I was just asking about that odd promotion about getting ESPN Free for 3 months. Don't recall ever seeing a promotion like that before. Either ESPN is hurting for business... or DirecTV is? Who knows?

That's correct. I typed this thread rather fast. When the automated service prompts you why you called? Say "Cancel DirecTV Service"

Called to add the college sports extra package or whatever. They threw in NFL free this year. Couldn't believe it as they are greedy as fuk usually.

Not sure how anyone can sit there and watch NFL all day on Sunday. 8 hours of commercial bullshit.

It's actually decent now they have a couple mix channels so you can bring up 4 or 8 games at once. Or switch between games you have action on.

This...no real big news here, I did this every year from 2009-2014 ish and got it free every year...now I don't waste any money on the sh*t cause I realized I don't really give 2 sh*ts about watching any of the games, only the final score and who covered

I got rid of DirecTV a year and a half ago. Don't watch enough TV to pay justify paying their prices, so I cut the cable and can stream everything I need for a fraction of the cost. Got the ticket free the 3 years before I got rid of DTV though, and now they're more desperate than ever to keep customers. It literally costs them nothing to give it away, they already have rights to air all the games. I wasn't meaning to be a dick, it's just true. There are dozens of reasons to complain about DTV, just pick one or two, give em a call, and I'll be absolutely shocked if they don't give you the ticket. So maybe people are cutting the cable, they'll happily give you something that costs them nothing to prevent you from leaving.

Got a FireBox with Prime and PSVue and haven't looked back. Vikings suck so won't want to watch my team anyway. Will be left with shitty Bucs and Jaguar games.

I agree. I think every consumer once a year should take a look at all of their bills that they can negotiate on... for example... cell, tv, internet, and home phone/landline. No one should ever pay full price.

Going rate in Detroit now for Comcast service.... 75mb on the download... and about 140+ channels is about $145.00 a month. That's simply ridiculous. I don't care if you make 80k+ a year... no need to pay that a month for entertainment.

DirecTV has raised their prices... current Choice programming is $115.00 a month + that stupid Fox Sports Regional fee. That's what pissed me off to begin with. I'm not paying $4.73 extra a month to watch the Tigers, Red Wings, Pistons.... fuk them. Why should you pay when a year ago... it was FREE WITH THE PACKAGE? Makes no sense.

And if you don't take the Retention Department route.... and stick with whomever they give you... no one can speak god darn English... it's like they have a book in front of them so they know how to communicate with you. WTF is this all about? It will take at least 20 minutes on the phone with them... piss on them.

That's why with every problem I have with DirecTV... I always say Cancel Service... you get anything corrected in about 5 minutes with that call center.

It's included now on their new packages. If you were on previous old package... and never changed it in a few years... it's quite possible you are still being charged for it.

You actually get a $10 credit a month for being on Auto Bill pay.

Previously, they forced you to be on Auto Bill Pay... for FREE HD Programming. Or, it would of been a $10.00 Extra fee for HD Programming. But, that was about 2 years ago.

Totally agree JJ! I moved and got Sunday Ticket free last year. All I did was watch Red Zone which basically switches around from game to game - its awesome. This year they wanted to charge me over $300 for the whole package. Here's a question: Any way to get Red Zone by itself, without all the games? I always got it with U-Verse on a $7 a month HD package. Not sure if Direct TV offers it. I prefer the one Scott Hanson hosts which is even better than the Andrew Ciciliano "Red Zone" on D TV.

Red Zone $39.99 one time charge a season on cable. All you need. My gf cut the cord and does streaming. I will never do it. Between the lag, shit picture quality, and inconsistency it's far too aggravating when you have money on a game or are trying to live bet. No reason everyone on this website can't drop one paycheck or one cashout for a years worth of sports entertainment.

Years past on some blogs I've read how some DirecTV customers received the RedZone Channel without buying NFL Sunday Ticket... but I can't confirm how accurate the info is. Some people BS from time to time.

Just wanted to elaborate more on this. I had a cold seller for Comcast walking around my neighborhood a few weeks ago. I normally don't even answer my door... but I was cutting the grass... so I stopped to BS with the guy. I couldn't believe Comcast was selling TV Packages without HD Programming. I told the guy... you mean to tell me... you are actually advertising this on paper? Because people want to save money?

Dude was offering a TV and Internet package for $89.99 with NO HD. GTFO of here with that sh#$. This isn't 1994 anymore bro.

It's remarkable that these high caliber companies... are going to insult you with a lower rate... and give you SD programming. Ridiculous.

Took me 3 phone calls this year, but got it for free yesterday. Plus a bunch of discounts in addition. Money Shot is right, they are motivated to retain business right now. The system wouldn't let them give it to me for free (I am sure because I have gotten it free for the last two years, weird they couldn't figure that out), but they charged me for the ticket, and then put a miscellaneous credit on to offset it. Gave me Redzone for free too!
