The Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars will play their season opener as scheduled Sunday at NRG Stadium despite the historic flooding in Houston from Hurricane Harvey, according to Brent Martineau of CBS 47 and FOX 30 in Jacksonville.

The Texans were unable to play their final preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys, which was scheduled for last Thursday at NRG Stadium. The game was initially set to be moved to AT&T Stadium but was eventually canceled.

There had been discussions that the teams may swap dates, as the Texans are scheduled to play at Jacksonville on Dec. 17. That would’ve given the Texans plenty of time before returning home. Their next home game after Week 1 isn’t until Week 4 on Oct. 1. Jaguars owner Shad Kahn was fine with playing wherever the NFL decided.

“The Jacksonville Jaguars will support whatever scheduling decision the NFL makes,” Khan said last week to ProFootballTalk. “What’s most important to me and everyone in Jacksonville isn’t where we’ll play the Texans on Week One, but that the city of Houston and its people recover quickly, safely and successfully.”

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said the city’s airport and transit systems were back up and running while on CBS’ “Face The Nation.” Thousands still remain stranded from the devastating flooding.

“We’re excited to be back,” Texans coach Bill O’Brien said last Thursday after the team returned to Houston via NFL.com. “Football is important, and no doubt about it, we’re going to get back to it soon, but right now family is the priority.”
