As I said it was all a game of hype. Serious as a heart attack, Billy probably did not have $5 on this game. And that tout certainly did not. This kind of fluff is for entertainment purposes only, Hollywood style. The touts and the article author split revenue generated from selling that Colts ML pick most likely. The sharp action was ALWAYS on the Saints. The line told us that all along. And thats why the line did NOT close at 6.5 or 7.

I just want folks to stop believing stuff meant to separate them from their money and watch the line. Its a vital part of capping. You dont always have to join the sharp play but at least be able to figure out what it is.

John, you are right, the sharp action was always on the Saints, and the middles that got set up as the line moved.

This was confirmed by several people on the 2+2 forums who stay close to the word in Vegas that Ivey did place down 2 million dollars. Whether all of the money was for Billy Walters or just part of it will remain in gambling lore for a long time.

Good post. Although, the problem with it is that once people have figured out what the sharp side is based strictly on line movement, the value in that side is generally exhausted.

I agree that the article is fiction. I didn't really put much thought into the article when I read it because I don't ever care what BW is on.

and a poster immediately called out the originator of this rumor, as he had contacts at the bellagio which confirmed no such bet was made. in addtion john has tried to outline several times why this was just hype.

I'm not sure where the Bellagio part came from and I don't feel like reading the article again, but the Bellagio would need authorization from the Mirage in order to place a wager like that anyway. It's not as if the Bellagio book can independently take whatever exposure it wants to...

Yeah. I got that part. It's just that the Bellagio is an MGM/Mirage book. They don't just key in $2,000,000 into the terminal. It would have to be authorized at the Mirage where their bookmakers are.

Its shocking to see the concerted amount of misinformation. Even a few guys in this thread swallowed line, hook and sinker without even considering that the whole thing was orchestrated. If a guy is going to believe there is not a ton of collusion and misinformation between touts, sportsbook managers and others then they are better off not getting on the web. Adam Meyer bets a million dollars?? Geezus! Seriously, thats just plain out retarded. And Walters bets $2mil on a line that is not there? Oh wait, Adam Meyers(remember him?) corrects the report and reports Walters also bet millions and millions on a 1 to 2 puffy chalk favorite, same as Meyer . If you bet on the colts after reading those reports then you were had.

As for that article...it wouldnt surprise me that the 'confirmation' people wanted to find in it when it cited 'one story circulating' was probably this very thread. So you used an article that cites this thread as 'proof' that it happened. Talk about self fulfilling.

But it really surprises me that in this day and age people still cling to these romantic stories of thes so called legends. if the computer age has taught us anything it is that these guys dont make shit at actually betting on the games, they make it all in their free contests winning big prize pools not actually cashing tickets.

Not to mention the taxes taken out of a wager like that, if it was actually made. A "smart" guy doesnt like laying vig let alone another 35% on top of that in taxes. But dont let money and actual accounting issues get in the way of a good story I guess.

Regardless if he did bet 2 million on the Colts, which at the time was -200 then where are all the experts here calling him a square when it has been available at -185 at more than a few spots, and if that bet really was made why would it go down?

The bottom line is that betting on the NFL is borderline insanity anyway, and betting on the Superbowl for the most part is not something anyone that likes money is really going to go out of their way to do. But it is the biggest sucker game in the biggest sucker sport (for betting) so people like to make or break their reputations by claiming they did all kinds of fancy wagering with it. Or made the biggest bets of their lives on the game. because they know that next year if they lost most will forget, but if they happen to win they can always talk about how "last year I had so and so and won mega bucks". That's the beauty of it.

The fact that the books are willing to take that type of action proves that the game is for suckers, because all year you're lucky to get down a grand at most of these dumps on a side, and now all of a sudden they are taking million dollar plays like its the 1970s and Benny Binion is reincarnated or something.

Either way it doesnt really matter I suppose. But it makes for some reading anyway.

    Saints by 10.

Losing and being sold a load of crap is different. A lifetime losing tout betting a million dollars?? A famous better betting the squarest of all plays for millions?? We have all bought this crap at some point in our betting careers. I think if you reconsider all that was said and written you can see these guys were far less than honest giving out the square play and making up bets and bet amounts. Thats all.

Oh hell yea, You have no idea whether these guys really bet that amount. Did you see the ticket? Vegas could have payed them to say that crap. Farve is probably having a good laugh at the millions Vegas payed him. I think Manning is off doing the same thing. probably like 2 to 1 wss bet on Colts. Vegas wasn't going to pay that favorite off, and the over. Aint's fans enjoy the fact that you were on the right side, because deserving to be there and having the best team, you don't.

its not uncommon for sharps to pound the ML favorite on the SB. the line has value most of the time

I really don't think you understand the meaning of value. Although, one of BW's runners that I know was into the 2007 Patriots ML for nearly $300k. However, this story is clearly fictitious. The idea that he'd be pooling money with Phil at one location is not his MO at all. He has runners to get his money down and could have gotten down $1 million on the ML with one text message. The guy tries to hide his plays, often sending out decoys to his own runners. He certainly wouldn't want a play like that being public information.

What he's saying is that the Colts ML @ -200 was the worst number possible. That is indeed the squarest play on the board.

    lol nice bump.

fwiw, i actually watched, phil ivey walk up to the SB at the Bellagio and ask to place "a very large wager".

no, i didn't hear it from a friend. i didn't hear it from some forum.

i was actually there, with my own two eyes, and saw it. i can't confirm it was $2m, all he said was "i'd like to place a very large wager" and the door to the back was opened (the one on the very left as you're staring at the screens) and he went in.
