That was a classic "lay down" game for the Esks. From the outset there were some strange things happening (like when Edmonton didn't challenge the reception clearly out of bounds after the refs reversed the call on the field... which never happens. This year coaches are challenging every penetrating dumb thing they can). The play calling you alluded to was also designed to slow down Edmonton. All Edmonton has to do is throw the ball down field but they only did it in the last quarter. Esks are a good team with a mediocre defense but will likely "get it together" by the playoffs. If you watch CFL enough you know this type of game happens every week. Did you watch the Ticats "comeback" last week against them? They did the same shit play calling in the second half to stop scoring. This is not a coincidence but when they are going to win they will come out firing and throw down field. CFL is dirtier than most people think only about 6 pairs of refs calling everything. Salaries are low as well so it is easier to grease the wheels per say. Continue to watch for big ML upsets. Happens at least once per week in 4 games.
