NFL Player News - Week of 6/13/16

    Courtesy of Footballguys.com

NE - QB Jimmy Garoppolo works with starters Source: Boston Herald - Jeff Howe
New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo split first-team reps QB Tom Brady during a three-day minicamp, and WR Nate Washington said that Garoppolo understands the offense.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Garoppolo should understand the offense by this point in his career. However, we need to see him make plays under pressure before we get too excited about the possibility of him starting. In college, Garoppolo would mentally go into the fetal position whenever under a slight amount of duress. More comfort in this offense should make him more courageous when the defense is swarming around him. We'll know more about Garoppolo when the preseason gets here.

OAK - QB Derek Carr taking next step

Source: Bay Area News Group - Jimmy Durkin

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr is taking the next step and taking command of the offense, WR Michael Crabtree said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're excited about what the Raiders passing game could look like in 2016. Carr is the best QB in his division, and he's one of the most exciting young QBs in the game today. Fantasy owners should see Carr as a QB1, and his current ADP is QB10 (8.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

HOU - Braxton Miller running sharp routes

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans WR Braxton Miller has been running sharp routes in OTAs, and he has shown the ability to make plays in space.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's scary to think what Miller could be in the NFL. He's only a year or so into learning the WR position after spending most of his college career at Ohio State as a QB. Earlier this year at the Senior Bowl, Miller flashed big-time playmaking ability (and an edge as a competitor). Dynasty owners should be all over him, while re-draft owners need to keep him on the waiver-wire speed dial.

NO - RB C.J. Spiller believes he fits offense

Source: The New Orleans Advocate - Joel A. Erickson

New Orleans Saints RB C.J. Spiller said his skill set is built for the Saints' offense, and he believes he can flourish now that he is 100% healthy.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

On paper...or on Madden Ultimate Team...Spiller IS a great fit for the Saints offense. Last year was a terrible season for Spiller as he had only one game with more than 4 carries and only one game with more than 5 targets. Spiller said knee surgery during training camp last season played a big role in his disappointing season. Now healthy, we'll see if he can have a bounce-back season and be the weapon the Saints were hoping for when they signed him in free agency.

KC - RB Jamaal Charles may take part in minicamp

Source: The Kansas City Star - Terez A. Paylor

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) may be able to participate in some drills during the mandatory minincamp, according to head coach Andy Reid. Charles has not participated in organized team activities because he is rehabbing from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If he does end up participating in minicamp, it will be on a very limited capacity. There's no need to rush him back and risk further injury. Charles should be 100 percent healthy (or close enough) by the start of the regular season. Fantasy owners need to recognize that the Chiefs will use Charcandrick West a bit more...even with Charles back as the starter. That dings Charles' fantasy value a bit, and it makes West a sure-fire handcuff.

JAX - RB Denard Robinson drops some weight

    Source: The Florida Times-Union - Ryan O'Halloran

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Denard Robinson said he wants to weigh around 205 to 210 pounds this season after playing at 215 to 218 pounds last season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The lighter weight should help Robinson play quicker and faster in 2016. He will compete with RB Corey Grant for the team's RB3 spot and the kick returner job during training camp.

BAL - No timetable for WR Steve Smith

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (Achilles') has not be able to participate in organized team activities this offseason and is not sure when he will be able to return. Smith said he will need to do something during training camp in order to be ready for the regular season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Ravens lost Breshad Perriman to a knee injury last week, and that is likely to knock him out for the second year in a row. Getting Smith back healthy is going to be a boost for the Ravens passing attack. We can't wait to see him back on the field looking like his old self. Monitor his progress in training camp as the regular season draws near. Fantasy owners should consider Smith a WR4 in 2016, and he's got a current ADP of WR38 (8.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

NYG - Minicamp unlikely for WR Victor Cruz

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Dan Graziano

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) is not expected to participate in organized team activities or minicamp this week, according to ESPNNewYork.com's Dan Graziano. The Giants are hoping Cruz will be able to participate in training camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll keep hoping that Cruz can get back to salsa dancing in the end zone....but we want to see it first before we consider him any sort of fantasy commodity.

PHI - Running back committee in Philly?

    Source: CSNPhilly.com - Dave Zangaro

Philadelphia Eagles RB Ryan Mathews has taken most of the first-team repetitions out of the backfield this offseason, but RBs Kenjon Barner and Darren Sproles shared those reps with Mathews, too. Head coach Doug Pederson expects a committee with those three backs and RB Wendell Smallwood.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is looking like a mess for fantasy owners. Mathews should be the lead back so long as he stays healthy, but he will be splitting time with any number of backs. Sproles should have a change-of-pace role, and his fantasy value increases in PPR leagues. Barner and Smallwood will compete for whatever is leftover in this backfield. Smallwood is getting a lot of hype in certain fantasy circles, but know that as interesting as he is there's no creativity to his rushing style. Yes, the opportunity could be there for him as the team's starter if Mathews gets hurt but don't expect the world in return. He's not the Eagles version of Charcandrick West.

PHI - WR Chris Givens holding his own

    Source: CSNPhilly.com - Dave Zangaro

Philadelphia Eagles WR Chris Givens has put in a solid offseason so far and could challenge WRs Josh Huff, Nelson Agholor and Rueben Randle for playing time, according to CSNPhilly's Dave Zangaro. Givens is known for his deep-threat ability, but Zangaro said Givens has also impressed with his underneath routes so far.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Other than Jordan Matthews, we're not crazy about the Eagles WRs...and it's not like we expect Matthews to burn up the charts. Right now, Matthews has a current ADP of WR25 (5.04) in 12-team PPR leagues. We'll be monitoring Givens vs Huff vs Randle as training camp rolls on later this year.

HOU - CB Kevin Johnson progressing

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans CB Kevin Johnson (wrist, foot) is not yet running, but he is making steady progress in his recovery from offseason foot surgeries. Johnson has added muscle this offseason, too, and said he is trying to get healthy, bigger, stronger and faster.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A first-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft, Johnson is one of our favorite young CBs in the league. He started 10 games last year, but Johnson played through a Jones' fracture the final few weeks of the season. Not afraid of a challenge, Johnson is a feisty corner who can play close to the line of scrimmage and get physical with opposing WRs. Having him back and healthy will continue to be a great asset for a strong Texans defense.

ATL - Austin Hooper to participate in minicamp

Source: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution - D. Orlando Ledbetter

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper will take part in the club's mandatory minicamp beginning Tuesday, June 14. He was unable to participate in three weeks of organized team activities because Stanford's academic calendar had not been completed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A third-round pick out of Stanford, Hooper reminds some in the scouting community of Coby Fleener (Saints). Like Fleener, Hooper has the build-up speed to challenge a defense vertically down the seam. The rookie could see significant playing time early on for the Falcons, and his natural pass-catching ability could be featured in the red zone.

NYG - RB Andre Williams quicker during OTAs

    Source: NJ.com - James Kratch

New York Giants RB Andre Williams appeared quicker and more fluid after transforming his body in the offseason, and he caught the ball out of the backfield well, according to NJ.com's James Kratch.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Giants have a clogged RB corps, and we're not sure the role that Williams is going to play in 2016. Rashad Jennings should be the primary back with Shane Vereen playing a change-of-pace role. Williams would be behind those two, and perhaps even rookie Paul Perkins would work into the mix more. Dynasty wise, this is good news but most re-draft owners won't be adding Williams to the roster.

DET - QB Matthew Stafford will still let it fly

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford completed a career-best 67.2% of his passes during the 2015 season, but offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter still wants to utilize Stafford's big arm and gunslinger mentality.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Stafford has to let it fly because the Lions don't have a great rushing attack. It will be interesting to see how his passes are distributed now that Calvin Johnson has retired. The team added Marvin Jones in free agency, and he'll split targets with Golden Tate. They also want TE Eric Ebron to actually do something (other than disappoint) this season. Stafford should be considered a low-end QB2 for fantasy owners. His current ADP is QB20 (12.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

ATL - Fewer touchdowns recently for WR Julio Jones

Source: The Florida Times-Union - Hays Carlyon

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones scored 18 touchdowns on 133 catches through the first two seasons of his career, and over the past three years, he has caught just 16 touchdowns on 281 receptions.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Touchdowns can come and go, but Jones was the No.2 fantasy WR last year with 136 catches, 1,871 yards and eight TDs. This season, we could see Jones put up a similar stat line...and perhaps he'll hit double-digit TDs in 2016. Either way, he's a damn good fantasy asset to add once again. His current ADP is WR2 (1.03) in 12-team PPR leagues.

MIA - Big season on tap for WR Jarvis Landry?

Source: The Miami Herald - Adam H. Beasley

Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry will take his game to 'another level' this season, according to head coach Adam Gase, who plans to put Landry in a position to make more big plays.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We can't wait to see this Dolphins passing game in 2016. Landry should catch over 100 passes again (111 last year), but his TDs and yardage could increase in the high-powered Gase system. He could outperform his current ADP of WR15 (3.02) in 12-team PPR leagues.

HOU - QB Brock Osweiler a work in progress

Source: Houston Chronicle - John McClain

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler said he still has a 'long way to go' to learn head coach Bill O'Brien's system, but O'Brien said Osweiler has lived up to expectations thus far.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Osweiler didn't really develop that much during his time with the Broncos, so we're not expecting him to take great strides with the Texans. The team had better be ready for inconsistent QB play, because that's what Osweiler was during the seven games he started for the Broncos in 2015.

No surprise, I said at the time it happened that the Texans overpaid for an unproven guy.

    Tuesday Update

WAS - QB Kirk Cousins looking to improve Source: CSNMidAtlantic.com - Tarik El-Bashir

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins said receiving all of the snaps with the first-team offense during organized team activities has helped him because he believes he can build on his 2015 performance. 'I do think I’m playing with more confidence,' Cousins said. 'I have a better understanding of defenses and our scheme and our protections and our routes. And, as a result, I'm able to grow as a player.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cousins wants to be more than a one-year wonder. In an effort to improve, Cousins has put in the extra time and work necessary this offseason. It's a great sign for his progress as the team's starter, and fantasy owners should be excited about what Washington can do through the air. Cousins has a current ADP of QB15 (10.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.

BAL - WR Breshad Perriman having surgery

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Baltimore Ravens WR Breshad Perriman (knee) will have arthroscopic surgery Tuesday, June 14, to determine if he'll need reconstructive surgery, according to a source. However, Dr. James Andrews revealed that Perriman may not have a significant anterior cruciate ligament tear.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll know more about the severity of this injury in the future. Perriman missed all of his rookie season in 2015 with a PCL injury, and we hate to see him miss some/most/all of his second season. The Ravens could be in a pinch at WR without Perriman. Steve Smith, Kamar Aiken and Mike Wallace will be their top-3 wideouts in 2016.

NE - RB Dion Lewis back at practice

    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) is back at practice for the first time Monday, June 13.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Getting Lewis back is a huge boost for the Patriots offense. He can make plays as a runner in space or as a receiver out o the backfield. Lewis has the speed and foot-frequency to make field-flipping plays on most any touch. We'll be monitoring his continued recovery closely. Lewis is recovering from November surgery to fix a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

NE - TE Rob Gronkowski suits up

Source: The Boston Globe - Jim McBride

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (undisclosed) is on the field for the organized team activities Monday, June 13.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Last week, reports surfaced about Gronkowski dealing with some sort of "cryptic ailment" but now he's back in action. The team is likely to limit the superstar TE while he deals with whatever in the world this ailment actually is...or was...or whatever. It's the Patriots, so rarely is clarity had with injury situations.

NO - Coach talks RB C.J. Spiller

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Triplett

New Orleans Saints RB C.J. Spiller's 'health and movement skills' were noticeably different, and he was a pleasant surprise during organized team activities, head coach Sean Payton said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Another day and more positive Spiller news. He's an interesting option to consider late in your PPR-league drafts. Spiller had a disappointing season in 2015, but on paper he makes for a great fit in the Saints high-powered offense.

PIT - Le'Veon Bell may wait for new deal

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (knee) is a candidate for a contract extension, but the Steelers may want to make sure he is completely recovered from his knee injury before signing him.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's a wise move for both sides. Bell wouldn't be able to get as much money if he struck a deal right now because of his injury history. The Steelers wouldn't feel comfortable signing him to an extension also because of the injuries in Bell's past. If Bell gets healthy, stays healthy and produces at a high level (like he can) then it's a better spot to negotiate from.

CHI - WR Alshon Jeffery reports for minicamp

    Source: NFL.com

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery reported for the start of the mandatory minicamp Monday, June 13.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jeffery had been training on his own while the team went through voluntary OTAs earlier this offseason. He signed his franchise tender, and he's guaranteed a one-year deal that will pay him $14.6 million. Since he's under contract, missing mandatory minicamp could have resulted in fines. We'll see if Jeffery and the Bears can reach a long-term agreement by the time the July 15th deadline gets here.

DET - WR Anquan Boldin visiting Lions

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Free-agent WR Anquan Boldin (49ers) is visiting the Detroit Lions Monday, June 13.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Boldin wants to play for a contender, but the Lions don't really fit that category. They clearly aren't thrilled with the WR depth already on the team, that's why they signed Andre Roberts and are working out Boldin. We'll see if Boldin can latch on with a team before training camp.

DAL - RB Darren McFadden embracing role

    Source: DallasCowboys.com - Nick Eatman

Dallas Cowboys RB Darren McFadden called RB Ezekiel Elliott an 'awesome runner' and said he is going to show him the ropes while still competing with Elliott for touches.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McFadden is wise to embrace his new role. Elliott is likely to be the centerpiece of the Cowboys offense, and he could easily be a top-5 RB for fantasy owners this year. McFadden is the backup and may only see the field if Elliott needs a breather.

JAX - WR Marqise Lee impressing this offseason

    Source: Jaguars.com - John Oehser

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Marqise Lee has been healthy for an entire offseason for the first time since being drafted by the Jaguars and has been impressive during some of the organized team activities.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's been a long time since Lee looked good. You have to go back to his sophomore season in college at USC to see him look like a dominant player. The Jaguars are stacked at the WR position with Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns.....getting Lee to do more would just make them even more dangerous through the air.

MIN - Minnesota may not pursue WR Greg Jennings

Source: ESPN 1500 - Darren Wolfson

Free-agent WR Greg Jennings (Dolphins) reiterated his interest in re-joining the Minnesota Vikings Monday, June 13, and has contacted general manager Rick Spielman. There has been no indication yet if the Vikings are interested in signing him, however.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Vikings may just move on without him. They seem to be set at the WR position, especially after selecting WR Laquon Treadwell in the first round of the 2016 NFL draft. Jennings has left Spielman voicemails expressing a desire to return, but we don't see the team falling all over themselves to sign the veteran. The market has been stone cold for Jennings since the Dolphins released him.

PHI - DT Fletcher Cox agrees to new deal

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Philadelphia Eagles DT Fletcher Cox agreed to a six-year contract extension Monday, June 13, worth $103 million, according to sources. The deal includes $63 million in guaranteed money, which is the highest guarantee for a non-quarterback in NFL history.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cox was entering the last year of his rookie contract, and the Eagles pay him a premium to insure that he stays with the team for the foreseeable future. This guaranteed money is going to make it difficult for the Broncos to sign franchise-tagged Von Miller to a new contract as they have originally offered only $39.8 million in full guarantees. Cox can create interior pressure on opposing QBs and is a key member of the Eagles defense.

hes trying out for DB , i think cornerback..id say its a 99% chance he doesnt make the squad , hes super athletic but hes past his prime
he cant even make an nba squad right now unless hes coming deep off the bench, hows he going to make an nfl team as a DB at 5'8 and probably the most talented team at the DB position .... maybe he can surprise but i highly highly doubt he makes any team,id say its a better chance he gets completely embarassed , like the guy but dont see what hes trying to do go play ball in europe or asia drop 40 a game and be a hero

I think he also played some special teams in college possibly he could make the team doing that kind of stuff. I agree prolly no chance to make the team but still something interesting to follow in the offseason.

his only chance would be to fill a special teams role or possibly a practice squad player, for the position hes trying out for the seahawks are probably the worst team to try out for, he realistically got set up with the try out due to his name and nba rep he was a beast offensively in the nba for his size but i dont see him doing anything in the nfl , still a great dude though wish him the best of luck

    Wednesday Update

DAL - RB Darren McFadden hurt in home accident Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating an earlier report, Dallas Cowboys RB Darren McFadden (elbow) required surgery on his elbow after he was injured in an accident at home.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A dropped phone is reportedly the culprit. We've heard of everything, from slipping on McDonald's bags to tripping over a dog on the driveway....but dropping a phone and hurting your elbow takes the cake. McFadden is expected to miss two months and be ready by the end of training camp.

BAL - WR Breshad Perriman receives good news

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Updating previous reports, Baltimore Ravens WR Breshad Perriman (knee) received a stem-cell injection Tuesday, June 14, and doesn't have a torn anterior cruciate ligament. He's expected to be fine for the season, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That is comforting news. We love Perriman's upside, and it was disappointing to see him miss his rookie season in 2015. The Ravens have Steve Smith, Mike Wallace and Kamar Aiken as veterans who are competing to establish a pecking order in camp. Smith is the top wideout, but Perriman could work his way up the depth chart behind him if the second-year pro stays healthy and impresses. But make sure to read our Footballguys article by our Staff MD, Dr. Jene Bramel who explains that avoiding surgery is just the first hurdle for Perriman.

NYJ - No deadline for QB Ryan Fitzpatrick

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) and the New York Jets do not have a 'drop-dead deadline' to get a deal done, according to head coach Todd Bowles. It was reported Monday, June 13, that there had been no progress in contract talks with Fitzpatrick.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Jets are slow-playing this Fitzpatrick situation. He's gone from scoffing at their offer to being interested in any sort of deal they give him. The team is ready to move forward with Geno Smith as their likely starter while rookie Christian Hackenberg is seen as the developmental QB.

NYG - WR Victor Cruz vows to be ready

    Source: Giants.com

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) said he will be ready for the start of training camp. 'Come July 28th my plan is to be on the field for the start of training camp,' Cruz said.

We'd love to see that....but expecting Cruz to return to his old form might be a little far-fetched.

NYG - Sterling Shepard a lock to start?

Source: New York Daily News - Ralph Vacchiano

New York Giants WR Sterling Shepard has drawn rave reviews with terrific speed and good hands, and he appears to be a lock to start, in the opinion of beat writer Ralph Vacchiano.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Shepard is one of our favorite rookie WRs from this draft class. He can cut route sharply and precisely with the savvy of a 10-year veteran. Shepard doesn't have trouble getting open, and he's got natural hands. Even though he's not a big WR (5'10" 194 pounds), Shepard is fearless when running routes over the middle. Fantasy owners should be excited about his upside as the WR2 of the Giants. His current ADP is WR57 (12.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.

IND - QB Andrew Luck is a full participant

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Zak Keefer

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (abdomen, kidney) made all of his throws and looked in complete command during organized team activities (OTAs) after rehabilitation from a lacerated kidney. 'He's got a lot in his mind he wants to prove,' quarterbacks coach Brian Schottenheimer said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If Luck is at full strength, the Colts are a team who can make a deep playoff run. The Colts should thrive through the air, and Luck is a QB1 for fantasy owners once again. His current ADP is QB3 (5.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

BUF - RB Karlos Williams overweight

Source: WGR Sports Radio 550 - Joe Buscaglia

Buffalo Bills RB Karlos Williams showed up overweight for organized team activities and minicamp this offseason. He'll need to shed some of that weight before the Bills are content with the shape he's in. Williams worked with strength and conditioning coach Eric Ciano following positional drills in the Bills' first practice of minicamp. Head coach Rex Ryan said Williams isn't close to where he needs to be to play at a high level.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bills are jam-packed at the RB position, and if Williams is not careful he will lose the backup spot behind LeSean McCoy. We're excited about rookie RB Jonathan Williams (Arkansas), and we'll be monitoring him closely in the competition to establish a pecking order behind McCoy.

Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos CB Aqib Talib (leg) recently stopped using crutches as he continues to progress from a gunshot wound to his right leg. Talib continued his treatment with trainers Tuesday, June 14 and the Broncos do not expect him to miss any regular season time.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We won't see Talib on the practice field until training camp. He's fortunate the injury is not more severe.

CHI - WR Alshon Jeffery plans to report

Source: Chicago Bears Radio Network - Zach Zaidman

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery said he plans to report to training camp on time. Jeffery is participating in minicamp, but did not report for organized team activities earlier this month. He is awaiting a long-term contract agreement.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jeffery doesn't have much leverage in this situation. He signed his franchise tender already and is on the books for $14.5 million in 2016. Jeffery had to participate in mandatory minicamp since he's under contract. The two sides have until July 15th to get something done.

BAL - OLB Elvis Dumervil had procedure

    Source: WNST

Baltimore Ravens LB Elvis Dumervil (undisclosed) recently underwent a preventative procedure, according to head coach John Harbaugh. Harbaugh did not elaborate on Dumervil's issue, but it is the reason for Dumervil's absence from practice Tuesday, June 14.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Nothing like specifics. Once anything is dug up about this 'procedure' then we'll be able to comment. This doesn't seem that serious at this time.

WAS - Contract not bothering QB Kirk Cousins

    Source:

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins is not focused on a long-term deal this offseason. The deadline to reach a deal is July 15, and Cousins and the Redskins will not be permitted to negotiate a deal until the end of the 2016 season if they do not reach a deal by July 15.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cousins almost immediately signed his franchise tender and is set with a one-year deal worth $19.9 million. He wants to prove that he's more than a one-year wonder, so his focus is on improving as a passer. Fantasy owners should be excited about Cousins as a fantasy asset. He's a high-end QB2 who could get super hot in certain matchups.

BUF - RB LeSean McCoy has ankle injury

Source: The Buffalo News - Tyler Dunne

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy (ankle) is dealing with an ankle injury as opposed to a previously reported hamstring injury, according to head coach Rex Ryan.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Clarity is always a good thing. An ankle injury seems more severe than a hamstring injury...especially if it's a high-ankle sprain. However, this doesn't seem like something that's going to bother him during training camp. Fantasy owners know that McCoy can be an impact player--if healthy.

HOU - WR Jaelen Strong praised by coach

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans WR Jaelen Strong is 'probably one of the most improved players' on the Texans this year, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Strong has always had tremendous upside as a pass-catcher in the NFL. He's lost about 20 pounds this offseason in an effort to be lighter and quicker. Strong plays like a basketball player in the red zone where he's comfortable boxing out defenders and making plays at the highest point. The former Arizona State star will be hooking up with another Sun Devils player as that's where new QB Brock Osweiler went to college (although the two did not play together in college).

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Marshall was cut three times by the Jacksonville Jaguars, but the Broncos scooped him up in 2013 and he's developed into one of their best players on the league's best defense. He'll take over at WILL for the Broncos this year with Danny Trevathan (Bears) moving on in free agency.

WAS - TE Jordan Reed has ankle sprain

    Source: Redskins.com

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (ankle) missed minicamp Tuesday, June 14, because of an ankle sprain he suffered last week, according to head coach Jay Gruden. Reed is not expected to practice this week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is an injury that may not keep Reed out of training camp, but it still should be a story fantasy owners watch. Reed is supremely talented and a TE1 in fantasy football, but he's got a long injury history. With 14 games missed in three years, Reed has problems shaking the injury bug.

MIA - WR DeVante Parker to return Wednesday

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (foot) will return to practice Wednesday, June 15, according to head coach Adam Gase.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Parker can have a huge season for the Dolphins this year as he'll play the "X" receiver in Gase's offense. That's a role where guys like Demaryius Thomas (Broncos) and Alshon Jeffery (Bears) have put up fantastic numbers under Gase. Parker has a current ADP of WR31 (6.08) in 12-team PPR leagues, and that's a position he could easily outperform in 2016.

DEN - QB Mark Sanchez, Trevor Siemian gridlocked

    Source: 9News.com - Mike Klis

Denver Broncos QBs Mark Sanchez and Trevor Siemian are 'looking each other in the eye' for the starting quarterback position, according to head coach Gary Kubiak. QB Paxton Lynch is the clear No. 3 quarterback at this point.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Siemian was airmailing passes at practice on Tuesday. He's got a big arm but little control or consistent accuracy. Sanchez makes some boneheaded throws from time to time, but he's in more control of where the ball is going than Siemian. We think Sanchez begins the season as the starter. The development of Paxton Lynch will determine how long Sanchez remains in the top spot. Fantasy owners need to downgrade the WRs in the Broncos passing attack. They'll run the ball as much as possible this season.

PIT - QB Ben Roethlisberger likes two-point tries

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Ed Bouchette

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger said he would like to attempt two-point conversions after every touchdown this season. He and head coach Mike Tomlin have discussed the possibility.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No team was better at 2-point conversions last year than the Steelers. They led the NFL in two-point attempts (11) and conversions (8). Last September, the Steelers became the first team to try a two-point conversion in the first quarter of a game in 17 years. We're not sure they'll go for two every time, but we won't be surprised to see them attempt even more 2-point tries this year. Make sure your league is scoring these conversions accordingly.

SEA - WR Tyler Lockett growing as receiver

Source: 710 ESPN Seattle - Brady Henderson

Seattle Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett is growing as a receiver and has improved on getting better releases off the line of scrimmage, according to WR Doug Baldwin. 'He's so quick and he's so fast that there's no reason for guys to be able to put their hands on him at the line of scrimmage,' Baldwin said. Lockett caught 51 passes (second on the team) for 664 yards and six touchdowns in his rookie year.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lockett was a favorite of ours entering his rookie season, and he performed well above the expectations some had for him. We love his upside as a playmaker, and see some dashes of Antonio Brown (Steelers) to his game. Lockett has a current ADP of WR36 (7.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.

New York Jets CB Darrelle Revis (wrist) said he expects to be ready to take part in training camp next month.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Washington needs to be careful with the rookie here. Doctson can be a dominant player at the pro level because he'll catch nearly everything thrown his way. This season, a healthy Doctson would be counted on as a WR3 for Washington behind starters DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon.

    SD - Joey Bosa absent

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Michael Gehlken

San Diego Chargers DE Joey Bosa is absent from minicamp Tuesday, June 14, amid a contract dispute. Per sources familiar with negotiations, a main hurdle relates to offset language. Bosa's representation is pushing for there to be none. That would mean the Chargers pay him all of his four-year guaranteed contract - it will include a fifth-year team option - even if they release him sometime during it. Theoretically, Bosa thereby can double-dip and be paid full salaries from the Chargers and any new team with whom he signs if he were released.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The 3rd-overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft, Bosa is a pass-rusher who plays with a non-stop motor. They'll figure this thing out eventually, and Bosa is set to start at left defensive end on the other side of Corey Liuget.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's not an exciting offense to be the third option in. The Pederson offense should feed one WR and one TE enough to be fantasy relevant. Anything outside of that in the Eagles passing game may not be worth rostering in most standard-sized leagues.

IND - O-line coming together in Indy

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Zak Keefer

Indianapolis Colts OT Anthony Castonzo is expected to start at left tackle with OG Jack Mewhort at left guard and C Ryan Kelly in the middle. Two jobs remain up for grabs, as OT Joe Reitz is the incumbent at right tackle, although OT Le'Raven Clark might contend. OG Hugh Thornton (ankle) appears to have a leg up at the right guard spot, but he has missed time in the spring with an ankle injury. OLs Denzelle Good, Jonotthan Harrison and rookie Joe Haeg are also in the mix.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is the best news Colts fans could see come to fruition this year. The O-Line was terrible last year, and it was part of the reason why Andrew Luck was knocked out for the season. The team has a franchise QB in Luck, and they need to do everything they can to better protect him. They made a few moves to improve the O-Line and reports indicate all things look good on that front.

    Thursday Update

SD - RB Melvin Gordon will be ready Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Michael Gehlken

San Diego Chargers RB Melvin Gordon (knee) said he is confident in his knee and in his game. He added that when it's time to buckle up and get ready for training camp then he'll be ready.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Melvin Gordon underwent microfracture surgery on his knee in January, and it doesn't give us the warm and fuzzies that he is coming off surgery. We'd like to see him now, but camp will have to do. If he is able to go, we're predicting him to fall just shy of the 1,000 yard mark in our projections, and his ADP is RB26 in drafts right now.

PIT - Le'Veon Bell denies drug test rumor

Source: Pittsburgh Tribune-Review - Mark Kaboly

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell addressed rumors that he missed a drug test, which would result in a failed test result. 'I haven't missed any drug tests, failed any drug tests. I am fine,' Bell said Tuesday, June 14.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The rumor was generated by a radio host known for his wild rumors, so we wouldn't be shocked to see this thing was untrue. If you are a Bell owner, though, get Deangelo Williams. That is a necessary handcuff due to Bell's recent injury and suspension history.

NYJ - New York won't wait forever on QB

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick's (Jets) impasse with the New York Jets does have an expiration date, according to head coach Todd Bowles. Bowles said the Jets will rely on QB Geno Smith to be their starter if Fitzpatrick's contract is not worked out by a certain time. Bowles didn't say when exactly that time would be, but he indicated that it wouldn't be preseason. Fitzpatrick would start if/when he does re-sign, though.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

More pressure on Fitzpatrick to fold. A lot of Jets fans are losing their minds over the thought of Geno Smith starting, but so far reports on him have been glowing. And let's also consider that this is the best receiver tandem he has worked with by far (Eric Decker was wildly out of place as a WR1 in 2014) and Chan Gailey's offense should be a good fit. On top of all that, the opening schedule is so brutal they might as well trot Fireman Ed out there—at least when he gets killed they will still have a full roster. The schedule, even more than Smith's history, is why we are not bullish on whomever is QB1 for the Jets. Smith is no safer than a low-end QB3 and Fitzpatrick would likely be about the same thing.

BAL - WR Steve Smith day-to-day

    Source: WNST

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (Achilles') said he is day-to-day and is being smart with his rehabilitation. He is not concerned with playing the preseason if it does not happen.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He shouldn't be, and the team and fans shouldn't be either. At 4,000 years old (or 37), Smith is clearly on the downside of a nice career. He had a great season last year before his injury, but it's hard to comfortably predict a 37-year old receiver is going to pick up where he left off after an Achilles injury. We have him as a WR4 or WR5 right now, though that could climb. At this point you're hoping to get him at value (his ADP is currently 113 overall and he's WR46) and then see him recapture some of the 2015 magic.

LA - Jared Goff gaining comfort

    Source: TheRams.com - Myles Simmons

Los Angeles Rams QB Jared Goff looked good in drills with the first-team offense in practice Tuesday, June 14, and he has gained more of a level of comfort as he has progressed during offseason workouts. One are area in which he has improved is with the speed of the game, in which he admitted is a lot different than in college. Goff said he's been able to successfully slow the game down of late. He's also come a long way in deciphering what the defense is showing him.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Let's slow our roll before we go hog wild over a guy in shorts without pads. It's good he seems comfortable with the playbook—but expected since he was the most pro-ready of the 2016 quarterback class—but we need to see him react under pressure. As of now we still see him as a decent QB3, and that's pretty much it.

DAL - Ezekiel Elliott pushed into starting role

Source: Fort Worth Star-Telegram - Charean Williams

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott took all the first-team repetitions in practice Tuesday, June 14, with RB Darren McFadden (elbow) out with a fractured elbow for two months. Elliott will remain the starting running back for all intents and purposes. 'I think it's going to be real big for him, really beneficial, because now he's forced to go in and do it,' running backs coach Gary Brown said of Elliott getting more first-team snaps. 'He's forced to go in there to perform and perform at a high level. He can't rest on his leader maybe helping him a little bit. He has to rest on himself. So it's going to be a good thing.' Offensive coordinator Scott Linehan called Elliott 'a full-package running back.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We expected this anyway, it was just sped along due to a millionaire not letting his cell phone hit the floor. If only McFadden had a "burner" phone like Jax Teller. Elliott will have a steep learning curve but we expect him to excel behind this offensive line. He's an RB1 easily this season.

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy (ankle) is expected to have his touches limited in training camp next month, according to running backs coach Anthony Lynn. McCoy also said not to expect McCoy in for more than one or two drives in preseason games.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

They'll be careful with him. We hate that he's already banged up but he's already on the mend so we're not really worried much. We see him as a solid RB2, but we do have concerns. Limiting his load in August should help allay those fears.

NYG - WR Victor Cruz doing solo work again

Source: New York Daily News - Ralph Vacchiano

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf, knee) is doing individual drills again Wednesday, June 15.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're cautiously excited here as that is two days in a row! The Giants had no help for Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr (who normally didn't need it anyway) in 2015, so getting Cruz back has potential. That said, he's older and a knee injury might have robbed him of some of the burst and speed. Be cautious with expectations here because he's likely not the same and, three years removed from his last big season, may be well past his prime. If anything, take him late as depth.

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (foot) returned to practice Wednesday, June 15.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Parker could be poised for a breakout season as he moves to the X-spot in the offense, a place that is highly productive in Adam Gase's world. We're currently seeing his ADP at 57 (WR27) overall, and think that could climb. He's tracking as a WR3 and has the upside for more in this system.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sharpe has been—dare we say it?—SHARP so far. There's a lot of football to go before the roster is set and this could be a way to fire up Green-Beckham, but if he jumps the second-year receiver, Sharpe could end up a solid WR4 with upside.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Taylor is working hard, which is one of the reasons why the team is starting to talk extension again. That, and the struggles of the backups. Taylor should be a low-end QB2 or a solid QB3. With the amount of running this team might do, not all the staff is terribly comfortable with Taylor's potential production.

BUF - RB Karlos Williams not masking injury

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Rodak

Updating previous reports, Buffalo Bills RB Karlos Williams said he isn't dealing with an injury, and he developed bad eating habits with his pregnant fiance this offseason. 'I like to eat and then her being pregnant gave me an excuse to eat, so eating anything and everything,' Williams said. 'She's getting back to working out herself, so kind of motivating each other, feed off each other's energy, and we're getting ready for camp.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ah, the old "my pregnant wife made me eat badly" excuse. We've actually seen a fair amount of backs add on too much weight after the first year or two, so this isn't a surprise. However, with LeSean McCoy already nursing an injury, the Bills need Williams on point. He could be a solid RB2 if McCoy gets hurt, otherwise he will only contribute as an RB3. Unless the weight won't come off in which case he could slip behind rookie Jonathan Williams--a favorite RB of ours from this draft class.

BAL - Three BAL RBs up for just one spot?

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Jeff Zrebiec

Baltimore Ravens RB Lorenzo Taliaferro might be competing with RB Terrance West and RB Trent Richardson for the No. 4 spot on the depth chart behind RBs Justin Forsett, Javorius Allen and Kenneth Dixon.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We think Taliaferro will be fine, as West hasn't impressed so far in his career and Trent Richardson is Trent Richardson. No matter what, this isn't the relevant part of the backfield battle. Forsett and Allen holding off Dixon is the part you want to watch. We lean towards Forsett, but Dixon isn't far behind. No matter what, right now there is little clarity and if you have to draft today, we'd say none of them are better than an RB4 because of it, though we expect Forsett or Dixon to take the lead and then put up RB3 numbers at the very worst.

Updating a previous report, San Diego Chargers RB Danny Woodhead (ankle) suffered a sprained ankle in practice Wednesday, June 15.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A sprain is OK, though we hope he can get it right before camp as those things can linger a bit. Woodhead has a good chance to put up RB3 numbers in a standard league and perhaps low-end RB2 numbers in a PPR league.

DEN - OLB Von Miller doesn't want to sit out

Source: The Denver Post - Nicki Jhabvala

Denver Broncos LB Von Miller said he does not want to sit out the 2016 season to wait for a long-term extension. Miller said he and the Broncos still have a month to negotiate that long-term deal and he would like to remain with Denver for the rest of his career.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fully guaranteed money seem to be the hold-up for this deal. We'll see if the two sides can find a middle ground. This defense would be hurt - though likely not devastated - if Miller sat out.

    DEN - Devontae Booker impressing

Source: The Denver Post - Cameron Wolfe

Denver Broncos rookie RB Devontae Booker has impressed running backs coach Eric Studesville from his pass protection to picking up the offensive scheme.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

C.J. Anderson got paid, so we expect him to get the bulk of the carries and do think an RBBC is unlikely. That said, Booker could be a good handcuff in case Anderson gets hurt or starts to slip. Pass-protection is the bugaboo for rookie backs, and if he can lick that, he could see some time. We don't expect more than RB4 numbers as of now, but that could change this summer if this keeps up.

BAL - WR Mike Wallace turning heads in spring

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Jeff Zrebiec

Baltimore Ravens WR Mike Wallace impressive team officials with his effort level during organized team activities (OTAs), and he is expected to see plenty of chances this summer with WR Steve Smith (Achilles') still rehabbing his injury and WR Breshad Perriman (knee) nursing an injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We feel like every time Wallace is with a new team, we get some variation on this headline. Admittedly he's a better fit in Baltimore than in Minnesota and with Breshard Perriman recovering from injury, could be the deep guy for the offense. We see him as a WR4 but with upside. Again though, buyer beware as he has been hyped before and fallen short.

BAL - No minicamp for QB Joe Flacco

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Jeff Zrebiec

Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco (knee) is expected to be absent for the team's three-day mandatory minicamp as he continues to rehab his knee injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

They'll let that go, as Flacco already has all the nuances of the offense down. Plus, they need him healthy for the season. Flacco never kills it in fantasy, something we see continuing this year, so our expectations are pretty mellow—a low end QB2 or a great QB3.

    24. SD - WR Travis Benjamin absent Wednesday

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Tom Krasovic

San Diego Chargers WR Travis Benjamin (undisclosed) did not participate in any drills at minicamp Wednesday, June 15.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Benjamin had a solid season with the Browns last year, but not solid enough for them to hang on to him. He could find some room to work opposite Keenan Allen, and be very productive. Right now we see him as a WR4, but there's potential for more.

SD - RB Branden Oliver looking good

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Tom Krasovic

San Diego Chargers RB Branden Oliver (toe) practiced the way he played before his toe injury Wednesday, June 15, according to The San Diego Tribune's Tom Krasovic.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Oliver has done a good job when he needed to step up and he could push Melvin Gordon for time if the latter is too slow in recovering from surgery. As of now he's not worth a roster spot, but keep an eye on him if anything goes sideways in Gordon's recovery.

    27. BUF - WR Robert Woods has had solid offseason

    Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown

Buffalo Bills WR Robert Woods has performed well during offseason workouts, and wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal said Woods has been impressive in his route running. He has been explosive off the line, quick in and out of breaks and acrobatic while going for passes in the air, according to BuffaloBills.com's Chris Brown.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Aside from a fight at a recent practice, Woods has done what he needs to do to hold onto his job. That said, he needs to stay in control and he has to show consistency in an actual game. That explosion and the crisp breaks aren't there in games. Until we see they are, we're not interested in him as more than a WR6.

    28. NYJ - Could add quarterback

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

If free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) does not re-sign with the New York Jets then head coach Todd Bowles said they might add a veteran quarterback.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That crash you heard was Bryce Petty dropping his lunch tray in the cafeteria, probably because there was a fly in his pudding but also because if the team pulls in a veteran, Petty is likely the odd man out. Hackenberg is too valuable to risk getting snagged on the way to the practice squad, and Geno Smith would start. There's no way the Jets burn four roster spots on the position so Petty could be in trouble if he can't show improvement this summer.

    Friday Update

SEA - Pete Carroll confident in players' return Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Seattle Seahawks TE Jimmy Graham (knee) and RB Thomas Rawls (ankle) should 'absolutely' be ready for Week 1 of the regular season, according to head coach Pete Carroll.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Graham has a lot of ability, but he is kept in check by Seattle's offensive scheme and offensive line woes. He has TE1 ability, but is producing TE2 numbers. We don't see it changing right now.

SD - RB Melvin Gordon has made speedy recovery

    Source: NFL.com - Gregg Rosenthal

San Diego Chargers RB Melvin Gordon (knee) has made a speedy recovery from knee surgery and has been cutting aggressively in team drills during minicamp. 'If you had seen him last Thursday do the conditioning part of the program in the offseason, you would have never known he was injured last year,' head coach Mike McCoy said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gordon is anxious to get back at it and improve over last year's performance. He has a lot of work to do. For now we have him rated as a decent RB3. That may change but we need to see more of him first.

WAS - RB Matt Jones shows improvement

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins RB Matt Jones took better paths off handoffs during offseason workouts and showed improvement in mandatory minicamp. The Redskins feel they're in a better spot they were in a year ago with Jones' development. The big question remains how Jones will respond to being the main back for a full season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones had moments during his rookie season, but needs to show more decisiveness in games. With the departure of Alfred Morris, he has the wheel to control the backfield and if he can keep building his game up, Jones will have a lot of opportunity. Right now Jones is going off as RB21 in early drafts and should work as a decent RB2/RB3.

NYG - WR Victor Cruz doing drills again

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee, calf) is doing individual drills for the third straight day Thursday, June 16.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is three days in a row, which we take as a great sign he might see the field this year. We're not sure what he has left in the tank, though, or how age and the injury might have impacted his skills. He's a depth guy right now, but given that he is also WR70 in recent drafts, he could have tremendous value if he plays well.

NE - TE Martellus Bennett fine in backup role

    Source: CSNNE.com - Phil Perry

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett said he doesn't mind playing second fiddle to TE Rob Gronkowski this year. 'I really don't mind being Robin, you know? So right now it's just working every day and just trying to get better. He's an excellent player, and I'm gonna be able to get a lot of single coverages with him,' Bennett said. He has impressed in organized team activities this offseason as a newcomer with his size and athleticism.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There's a fair chance we could see Bennett take over the long absent Aaron Hernandez role. Coach Bill Belichick is always trying to stay one step ahead, so it wouldn't shock us if he went back to that two tight end set. Bennett is working closely with Tom Brady, so we feel good about him in this offense. He's likely to be a solid TE2 this year.

DAL - QB Tony Romo throwing well

Source: USA TODAY Sports - Eric Prisbell

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (collarbone) said he's throwing as well as he ever has as he continues to recover from a broken collarbone and subsequent offseason surgery. He and the Cowboys will go over his schedule in training camp, and he may continue to take Wednesdays off depending on how his throwing feels each day. Romo did acknowledge that he can't ignore his injury history.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Romo healthy is a beautiful thing for Cowboys fans, since without him this offense is a shadow of itself. We think Romo is in for a solid season, and rate him as a solid QB2. Right now his ADP is QB13 and he's going as the 108 player off the boards.

CAR - Ron Rivera receives extension

Source: The Charlotte Observer - Joseph Person

Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera received a one-year contract extension Thursday, June 16, that will pay him more than $6 million a year, according to a league source. Rivera led Carolina to a 17-2 record and a berth in Super Bowl 50 in 2015 and is under contract through the 2018 season. He's now among the top 10 highest paid coaches in the NFL.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Riverboat Ron cashes in his chips for a big payday. The way he has managed Cam Newton's development, the improvement of the defense and even overcoming the injuries which sidelined their best receiver last season - all gave him ammunition to get a nice contract. The Panthers are expected to make another run at the Super Bowl.

WAS - QB Kirk Cousins taking charge

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins had some good and bad days during offseason practices, but it's clear that he's taking charge of the offense more and being decisive.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cousins "had some good and bad days during offseason practices" - that's the in depth analysis we love from the World Wide Leader. Let's dig a little deeper here. Cousins had a great 2015, despite a lot of critics waiting for him to fall apart. He topped 4,000 yards and threw for 29 touchdowns compared to just 11 interceptions. He was a huge reason the offense worked and will be the centerpiece of this offense as well. There is the question as to whether he can repeat, however, and while he's not just a game manager, he's not a top-shelf quarterback either at this point. You don't want to hear about him being inconsistent in OTAs, but that will happen so we're not concerned. We expect him to put up solid QB2 numbers and he has some upside, but we wouldn't pull the cord on adding him as a QB1 this year.

TEN - Tajae Sharpe to open camp as starter?

    Source: TitansInsider.com - Terry McCormick

Tennessee Titans WR Tajae Sharpe has impressed head coach Mike Mularkey, and Sharpe is expected to begin training camp as a starting wide receiver.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's going to be quite the battle between Dorial Green-Beckham and Sharpe. It's possible they both end up starting along with Rishard Matthews, since Kendall Wright and Justin Hunter have disappointed overall and Harry Douglas is over the hill. Rookies have steep learning curve, so Sharpe may falter when the fur starts flying for real. Right now we aren't throwing him on our rosters, but he has the chance to be a solid WR5 with upside. We just need to see more.

GB - RB Eddie Lacy continues to get in shape

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Tom Silverstein

Green Bay Packers RB Eddie Lacy worked out with P90X founder Tony Horton after the season, and Horton estimated Lacy lost 15 to 20 pounds during the workouts. Running backs coach Ben Sirmans said this week that Lacy might again work with Horton leading up to training camp. 'I'm hopeful,' Sirmans said. 'The information I got from what people have told me, it's helped him. So you always want to be able to do things that help people. I hope he'll do it.' After offseason workouts, head coach Mike McCarthy said Lacy still had work to do.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lacy fell into the doghouse - and maybe ate the dog and dog food - last season when he was noticeably overweight and out of shape. We hope he keeps up the work whether it's with Horton or someone else. Keeping weight off is always as hard as getting it off. We feel good about his prospects in general, enough to see him as a great RB2 with the upside to crack the RB1 ranks.

ATL - More deep balls for WR Julio Jones?

    Source: ESPN.com - Vaughn McClure

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones is expected to see a lot more work down the field this season, as offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan anticipates taking more deep shots. The team added WR Mohamed Sanu, TE Austin Hooper and WR Justin Hardy continues to develop, and Shanahan is hopeful their addition will help keep added defensive attention off of Jones.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We like the sound of that! Jones is without a doubt one of the premiere receivers in the NFL and is just as good in fantasy, where we have him as an easy WR1.

LA - QB Case Keenum remains starter for now

    Source: TheRams.com - Myles Simmons

Los Angeles Rams QB Case Keenum will enter training camp as the starting quarterback, with QB Jared Goff assuming the backup position, according to head coach Jeff Fisher.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That will last until the end of training camp. The team didn't mortgage the future for Jared Goff so he could hold a clipboard. We wouldn't start either of them and best case scenario, Goff ends up a low-end QB3.

NO - New Orleans backfield taking shape

Source: The New Orleans Times-Picayune - Larry Holder

New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram is the lead running back for the Saints, while RB Tim Hightower appears to be the backup, according to Larry Holder of The New Orleans Times-Picayune. RB C.J. Spiller holds the No. 3 spot.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ingram has come into his own, and we think he's a borderline RB1/RB2 and we could see him tipping 1,000 yards this year. Hightower finally got back into the league after some knee issues, but will be limited to whatever Ingram doesn't pick up. That means Hightower is unlikely to have any value save as a handcuff. Spiller might be the third back but he's going to have more work than Hightower, since he brings a little more variety to the table. Consider him only as depth though, as we don't expect him to do enough to warrant more than a bye-week fill-in, and his value is around RB7.

BAL - WR Steve Smith won't play much

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Jeff Zrebiec

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith (Achilles') probably won't play much in the preseason, if at all, according to head coach John Harbaugh.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

As we've said before, this is expected. They don't want to risk a guy who is a big part of their offense in the most meaningless part of the season. Smith should be a solid WR4 this year, but we don't expect the eye-popping numbers he was putting up last season.

SEA - WR Doug Baldwin contract being negotiated

    Source: ESPN.com - Sheil Kapadia

Seattle Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin's possible contract extension is being worked on by both sides, according to head coach Pete Carroll. Carroll said the goal is to get him locked up for a long time.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Baldwin had a tremendous second half to last season, but Seattle's offense still skews towards the run, which limits his upside a little. Without Marshawn Lynch in the backfield, things might shift a little but we aren't sure yet. Baldwin should produce regardless, and we see him as a solid WR3 with upside this year.

BAL - RB Trent Richardson expecting surgery

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Jeff Zrebiec

Baltimore Ravens RB Trent Richardson (knee) will likely need arthroscopic knee surgery this offseason for a pre-existing issue. He will miss some time, but the extent of that missed time was not disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We weren't exactly holding our breath to begin with and we aren't really shocked there is a hiccup as there always is with Richardson. He's going to have a hard time making a dent in the rotation while he's on the trainer's table, and with Justin Forsett, Javorius Allen and rookie Kenneth Dixon in front of him, Richardson is likely to be cut from yet another team.

CIN - QB Andy Dalton receives praise

    Source: Bengals.com - Geoff Hobson

Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton has been better than advertised so far this offseason, according to WR Brandon LaFell. LaFell noted Dalton's ball placement, accuracy, quick release and command of the huddle as factors that have especially impressed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dalton was having a great season in 2015 before he got hurt, as if everything clicked. We don't know what Hue Jackson's absence might mean for him but we like what we're hearing from LaFell here. Dalton should be a solid QB2 with upside this year in Cincinnati.

MIA - Kenyan Drake will be ready for camp
    Source: The Miami Herald

Miami Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake (hamstring) will still be ready for training camp after being injured in practice Wednesday, June 16.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Drake has the raw ability to be a starter but he needs to learn the finer points of technique if he's going to ever get that job. He also goes down a bit too easily. Right now he's on kickoff and punt returns, and though he might see some work as a receiver, we are not expecting to have an impact in fantasy leagues this year barring injuries ahead of him.

WAS - TE Jordan Reed has looked good

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (ankle) missed three days of practice this week but looked very good when he was in camp, and the coaches' confidence in him has increased. Reed will work out on his own before reporting to training camp next month, and his work ethic has been an underrated part of his game. Reed has improved on getting free on certain routes.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If Reed can stay healthy, he is a top TE1. The question is whether he can do that. Concussions and nagging injuries have derailed all three of his seasons, and is a concern. So this injury definitely worries us. That said, we'll keep an eye on it and if you are OK with the injury risk - and have a solid backup - his upside is huge.

TEN - WR Dorial Green-Beckham still a project

    Source: ESPN.com - Paul Kuharsky

Tennessee Titans WR Dorial Green-Beckham remains somewhat of a project at the NFL level after he was thrown out of Missouri in college and went to Oklahoma but didn't play in 2014. Wide receivers coach Bob Bratkowski thinks the time off hurt Green-Beckham's game and caused him to develop at a slower pace. Green-Beckham was picked by the former Titans regime under general manager Ruston Webster, and new general manager Jon Robinson has said before that he's not particularly interested in projects. For now, Bratkowski said things are trending in the right direction for Green-Beckham.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Reports have rookie Tajae Sharpe playing ahead of Green-Beckham right now, so it will be an interesting battle between he and Sharpe. Right now we feel Green-Beckham will win out, and should end up as a decent WR5 to start, but right now it seems like it's anyone's game. It's also possible both Sharpe and Green-Beckham could vault the underwhelming Harry Douglas, Kendall Wright and Justin Hunter.

    Saturday Update

LA - Jared Goff has a long way to go Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

Los Angeles Rams QB Jared Goff is 'nowhere near being ready to start Week 1,' analyst Steve Wyche said on NFL Network. 'He's only had offseason workout practices, but he's swimming in it. Training camp is vital for him. I spoke to one team official that said they are looking forward to seeing him in pads and preseason games because his ability to improvise is some of his strengths. But do not be surprised - I know the expectation is for him to start Week 1 - but don't be shocked if Case Keenum is the starter.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This shouldn't be a shocking report, and it certainly doesn't mean there's something wrong with Goff. The rookie has to get used to the speed and the discipline of the pros...just like Carson Wentz (Eagles) or Paxton Lynch (Broncos). Goff is the future of the team, and he'll be the starter when he's ready. All Keenum is doing is keeping the seat warm.

IND - QB Andrew Luck on the move more?

    Source: Colts.com

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck will be on the move more in 2016, and offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski and quarterbacks coach Brian Schottenheimer want to design more plays that can use Luck's athleticism outside of the pocket. Protecting Luck remains of utmost importance, though, and the Colts believe they have the personnel to do that. The Colts have used more rollouts in offseason practices.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Colts need to do whatever they can to protect Luck. Last year, the O-Line was terrible and Luck was beat up way too often...eventually knocking him out for the year. Having him on the move will help keep the rush away from him. If nothing is there as a passer, Luck has the athleticism to pick up yards as a rusher.

MIA - RB Jay Ajayi to work on pass catching

Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson

Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi said he will work on improving his route running and his pass catching skills during the next month.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Dolphins have been looking for an upgrade at the RB position most of the offseason. They added Kenyan Drake in the 2016 NFL draft, but he may only be a change-of-pace back behind Ajayi. Coming out of Boise State, Ajayi was seen as an all-purpose back so improving his ability as a receiver shouldn't be that difficult. We see him as a low-end RB2 or RB3 for fantasy owners this year.

TB - Cameron Brate a red zone weapon

Source: Tampa Bay Times - Rick Stroud

Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE Cameron Brate emerged as a favorite target of QB Jameis Winston last year, and head coach Dirk Koetter has been impressed with the tight end in the red zone this offseason. Brate caught 23 passes for 288 yards last year and scored three touchdowns when TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins was injured. Brate will battle with Seferian-Jenkins for a starting position in training camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brate is a player fantasy owners in deeper leagues need to take note of. Seferian-Jenkins has been banged up as a pro, and Brate has the ability to make plays if he gets a larger role.

CIN - WR Brandon LaFell picking up offense

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're not buying the LaFell hype. He's a player who has dropped way too many passes dating all the way back to his college career at LSU. SEA - RB Christine Michael drops weight

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks RB Christine Michael said he lost around eight pounds this offseason and feels a little quicker. He currently weighs 217 pounds.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The weight loss makes for a nice story, but would be even better is if Michael would actually play up to his potential as a pro. The Seahawks added three RBs in the 2016 NFL draft, so Michael's fantasy value could plummet quickly if one or more of those backs move past him on the depth chart. Currently, Michael would have to be considered the primary backup behind starter Thomas Rawls.

Whitehair was one of our favorite interior linemen in this year's draft. He has Vise-Grips for hands, and Whitehair has no problem controlling his man at the point of attack. He's got the movement ability to stay with his man laterally or be used effectively as a "sticky blocker" at the second level of the defense.

NE - D.J. Foster tweaked hamstring
    Source: CSNNE.com - Phil Perry

New England Patriots WR D.J. Foster (hamstring) had limited opportunities at the end of minicamp after tweaking his hamstring.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Foster could work his way up the depth chart...if he can stay healthy. The rookie from Arizona State can play RB or WR, and there's a chance he could develop as a Julian Edelman-like prospect for the team. That's why Foster is a player we'll be monitoring closely in our dynasty leagues.

    Sunday Update

IND - WR Donte Moncrief running routes Source: Twitter
Indianapolis Colts WR Donte Moncrief (toe) began running routes earlier this week for the first time since his toe surgery earlier this offseason.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Moncrief played with turf toe over the last month (or so) of the 2015 season. He's out of his walking boot and could have a breakout season for the Colts in 2016. Moncrief is a favorite target of QB Andrew Luck, and with Luck healthy we're expecting big things from the Colts passing game. His current ADP is WR35 (7.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

MIA - QB Ryan Tannehill's accuracy needs work

Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill had had some issues with ball placement and wasn't on the same page as his receivers at times during OTAs, head coach Adam Gase said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's going to take some time, but the Dolphins have the time upcoming in training camp. We're excited about the Miami passing game under Gase, so we'll be monitoring Tannehill's progress closely.

MIN - Second-team reps for Laquon Treadwell

Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Matt Vensel

Minnesota Vikings WR Laquon Treadwell performed well with the second-team offense during spring workouts, and beat writer Matt Vensel believes Treadwell will be a starter in Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's only a matter of time. Treadwell can win at the point of the catch, and he's incredibly athletic with the ball in his hands. We believe that he'll start several games (if not the entire season) for the Vikings in 2016.

MIN - WR Charles Johnson working with starters

Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Matt Vensel

Minnesota Vikings WR Charles Johnson received most of his reps as the split end with the first-team offense during spring workouts.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Last year was supposed to be Johnson's breakout season after showing flashes as a rookie in 2014. The breakout didn't happen, and Johnson only snared nine passes for 127 yards and zero touchdowns in 11 games. He's had a great offseason to this point, so don't paint him as a bust just yet.

KC - OLB Dee Ford dealing with tendonitis

    Source: ESPN.com - Adam Teicher

Kansas City Chiefs LB Dee Ford (knee) is dealing with tendonitis in his knee, but he practiced Thursday, June 16, in a limited capacity.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Chiefs need to be careful here. Ford could be one of their primary pass-rushers in 2016. Linebacker Justin Houston is coming back from an ACL injury, and his status for the start of the regular season is up in the air. Tamba Hali is not quite the player he used to be and will likely play a more limited role this season. That means it's time for Ford to shine.

NO - QB Drew Brees likes TE Coby Fleener

    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

New Orleans Saints TE Coby Fleener has an uncanny ability to separate and get open, according to QB Drew Brees. 'There's always a place to throw the ball where he can get it,' Brees said. Fleener was targeted eight times during 7-on-7 drills and 11-on-11 drills this week -- the same number of targets as WRs Brandin Cooks and Willie Snead.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners should love Fleener if he can stay healthy and play up to his potential. With Ben Watson moving on to the Ravens in free agency, the Saints went out to add Fleener. Brees loves to involve the TE in the passing game, and this makes Fleener a low-end TE1 with upside in 2016. His current ADP is TE7 (7.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

CAR - ILB Luke Kuechly should be ready for camp

Source: Charlotte Observer - Joseph Person

Carolina Panthers LB Luke Kuechly (shoulder) should be ready to go for the start of training camp, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Getting their superstar LB at full strength will greatly benefit the Panthers defense. They have a rock-solid front seven on defense, but we will be watching to see how their secondary comes together after parting ways with former franchise player CB Josh Norman. Kuechly had surgery in February for a torn labrum in his left shoulder.

MIA - RB Jay Ajayi could catch more passes

Source: Palm Beach Post - Hal Habib
Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi said he's been working on new routes, acknowledging that head coach Adam Gase's offensive system implements the running backs more in the passing game. Ajayi said he didn't have as many routes last year as he does this year.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ajayi came out of Boise State and was known as a fine all-purpose back. His last year in college (2014), Ajayi caught 50 passes for 535 yards and four TDs. He should be used more as a receiver...and likely as the team's primary ball-carrier in 2016. We'll see how rookie Kenyan Drake mixes in as a change-of-pace back. Ajayi should be considered a low-end RB2 or high-end RB3 for fantasy owners. His current ADP is RB24 (5.09) in 12-team PPR leagues.

HOU - WR Cecil Shorts takes pay cut

    Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates

Houston Texans WR Cecil Shorts has agreed to a $1 million pay cut. He was scheduled to make a base salary of $2.7 million in 2016 but will now receive a $1.2 million base salary and $500,000 roster bonus.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Shorts likely had to do this to insure his roster spot. The Texans added two WRs in the 2016 NFL draft and they've got second-year pro Jaelen Strong impressing this offseason. Shorts is currently WR2 on the depth chart opposite DeAndre Hopkins, but his hold on that job is tenuous.

IND - Josh Ferguson impressing in OTAs

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Stephen Holder

Indianapolis Colts RB Josh Ferguson has impressed with his quickness in workouts, and head coach Chuck Pagano called him a 'mismatch' in space and 'not just a third-down back.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're not surprised, and Ferguson is a dynasty prospect we have an appreciation for. During his college career at Illinois, Ferguson was known as a quick all-purpose back. Earlier this year at the East-West Shrine Game practices, Ferguson was also impressive with his quickness, foot frequency and ability to make defenders miss. The Colts have an interesting group of young RBs behind starter Frank Gore. If Gore goes down with an injury, we'll see if Ferguson or someone like Trey Williams could get more playing time.
