NFL Player News - Week of 5/23/16

SEA - CB Richard Sherman talks RB Marshawn Lynch Source: NFL.com - Conor Orr

Seattle Seahawks CB Richard Sherman said he wouldn't 'put anything past' retired RB Marshawn Lynch when asked if he thought Lynch could return to the NFL.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We wouldn't put anything past Lynch either. He's a beat-of-a-different drummer type of guy, and Lynch pretty much does what he wants to do. No retirement papers have been filled out by Lynch, and he's been in Haiti building houses for homeless people. The Seahawks drafted three backs in the draft to go along with Thomas Rawls and Christine Michael. We won't blame you if you're in a super-deep dynasty league and want to save a roster spot for Lynch.

HOU - RB Lamar Miller comfortable with offense

    Source: HoustonTexans.com - Deepi Sidhu

Houston Texans RB Lamar Miller said the offensive concepts are similar to those he used as a member of the Miami Dolphins, with some differences in terminology, and he said finding his way around Houston has been tougher than learning the playbook.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A comfortable Miller can be a dangerous RB with a ton of potential for fantasy owners. Even though he's been a top-10 fantasy RB each of the last two years, we don't think we've seen the best from Miller. He could post career-best numbers in his first year with the Texans. They'll rely on Miller to do the heavy lifting for the offense, and his production will help keep their strong defense fresh. We love his current ADP of RB7 (2.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

CIN - RB Jeremy Hill hoping to up efficiency

    Source: ESPN.com - Coley Harvey

Cincinnati Bengals RB Jeremy Hill's yards per carry dropped from 5.1 as a rookie to 3.6 last season, and he was missing running lanes that he hit quickly in his rookie year.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hill was slow with his decision making last year, and that led to his YPC downturn. This year, if he runs with better intent and determination then he should be swifter and build more power. Last year, the smaller back Gio Bernard had a better yards-after-contact-per rush average (1.9) than Hill (1.46).

BUF - QB Tyrod Taylor wants healthy WR Sammy Watkins

    Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor said he is not worried about the injury to WR Sammy Watkins (foot) hurting their chemistry with each other. 'We've been talking together and getting on the same page,' Taylor said. 'We want on the field work obviously, but we'll get that when the time comes. The main thing is that he gets healthy so he can play at the level that we know he’s capable of playing at.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Watkins is tremendously talented, but he's already battled through various injuries in two years as a pro and now he's got to come back from foot surgery. Perhaps his career will turn out like former Rams WR Isaac Bruce who had to fight injuries for a bit before playing like a star in the NFL. The Bills offense will flow through the rushing attack, but when Taylor goes to the air he'll be looking for Watkins early and often. Watkins has a current ADP of WR16 (3.03) in 12-team PPR leagues.

NFL - RB Arian Foster close to passing physical

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Mike Florio

Free-agent RB Arian Foster (Achilles') expects to pass his physical in the next couple of weeks, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Things are starting to heat up a bit with Foster. If he's able to pass a physical, then we could see a team like the Dolphins signing him to a short-term deal packed with incentives. There have been a small handful of teams that have already reached out to Foster this offseason.

NYG - Will Tye could start

    Source: NJ.com - Jordan Raanan

New York Giants TE Will Tye's pass-catching potential and athleticism make him the favorite to start at tight end in 2016 for the Giants, in the opinion of Jordan Raanan of NJ.com. TEs Larry Donnell, Matt LaCosse and Jerell Adams will also be competing.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Donnell may be listed as the starter on most depth charts right now, but that may not be the case when we get through training camp. Tye emerged last year, and his athleticism combined with solid route-running ability make him a TE2 with upside if he wins the starting job. In the final eight games of his rookie season, Tye was targeted 50 times for 34 receptions, 387 yards and 3 touchdowns.

    JAX - Jalen Ramsey signed

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed CB Jalen Ramsey to a four-year rookie contract. Ramsey's four-year rookie contract includes $23.3 million in guaranteed money, along with a $15.1 million signing bonus, according to a source. The deal (like all first-round picks) also includes a fifth-year option.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ramsey suffered a knee injury (torn meniscus) at the team's recent minicamp. Most of the reports indicate that Ramsey will be back for training camp. When healthy, Ramsey is a rangy player who diagnoses plays quickly as they unfold in front of him.

I doubt that Denver is interested, they gave Anderson big contract and drafted Booker. Foster will probably end up either in Miami or New England.

    Tuesday Update

NYJ - QB Ryan Fitzpatrick wants to return Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

Updating a previous report, free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) wants to re-sign with the New York Jets. 'I would like to be back,' Fitzpatrick said. He's been in a three-month contract stalemate with the Jets.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Things are at an impasse right now between Fitzpatrick and the Jets, but that could change quickly. Any other team with a QB need has already filled it, so Fitzpatrick has run out of options. He can either retire or sign a team-friendly deal with the Jets. At this point, it sounds like he doesn't want to retire so a return to the Jets makes the most sense.

NE - QB Tom Brady files appeal

    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady's legal team officially filed its appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit Monday, May 23, which was the deadline to do so. 'The facts here are so drastic and so apparent that the court should rehear it,' attorney Ted Olson said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

DeflateGate isn't over yet....but we'll sure be glad when it is.

HOU - DE J.J. Watt not practicing

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (groin) did not practice for the first day of organized team activities Monday, May 23, as he continues to recover from offseason groin surgery.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Watt's a pro's pro. He doesn't need every offseason rep, but we're sure that as soon as he's ready he's going to be out there on the field.

SD - RB Melvin Gordon recovering well

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Michael Gehlken

San Diego Chargers RB Melvin Gordon (knee) participated in individual drills during organized team activities Monday, May 23, and is rehabilitating well from microfracture knee surgery he had in January.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Chargers and fantasy owners are holding their collective breath about Gordon. The speedy back can be the centerpiece of the Chargers offense if healthy. At this time, Gordon is expected to be ready for training camp later this year.

ARI - S Tyrann Mathieu may not be ready

    Source: ProFootballWeekly.com - Nate Atkins

Arizona Cardinals FS Tyrann Mathieu (knee) said he doesn't necessarily want to play if he's only at 90% health when the regular season begins. Mathieu's goal was to return by the regular season opener Sept. 11, but he doesn't want to make the mistake of coming back too early, which he said he did when he tore his anterior cruciate ligament and lateral collateral ligament in 2013.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll be watching this situation closely as it continues to unfold. Obviously Mathieu is a fine player but injuries have knocked his pro career off track. Mathieu did say his rehabilitation is going as planned so far, though, but he wants to come back properly.

JAX - Jalen Ramsey to play a lot

    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

Jacksonville Jaguars CB Jalen Ramsey (knee) will play a lot in his rookie season, according to general manager David Caldwell. Caldwell thinks tests on Ramsey's torn meniscus this week will come back positive. However, the coaching staff is still 'holding their breath' that the second opinion Ramsey receives will confirm the injury is minor.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ramsey should play a lot as he's the type of player who doesn't need to come off the field. Early indications point to his knee injury being somewhat minor, and we hope that's the case. Ramsey can roam the field as a ball-hawking free safety and even play slot corner for the Jaguars if needed.

NYG - WR Victor Cruz taking it slow

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Dan Graziano

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee, calf) and RB Orleans Darkwa (leg) were both working on the side with trainers during practice Monday, May 23. The Giants continue to take it slow with Cruz.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We can't wait to see Cruz back near full strength...but there's no guarantee that he'll ever be able to be the same player he used to be.

JAX - WR Allen Hurns limited in OTAs

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike DiRocco

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Hurns (hernia) was limited during organized team activities Monday, May 23, due to a sports hernia.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hurns and Allen Robinson (hamstring) are banged up this offseason. They'll be wisely cautious with both star receivers.

JAX - WR Allen Robinson out with hamstring issue

Source: The Associated Press - Mark Long

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Robinson (hamstring) was out of practice Monday, May 23, with a hamstring injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No word on the severity of this injury. Robinson is a star, and the Jaguars will wisely be cautious with him as he deals with this hamstring. That type of injury can linger if not treated properly.

JAX - RB Chris Ivory successful on first down

    Source: The Florida Times-Union - Ryan O'Halloran

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Chris Ivory's 736 yards gained on first-down carries last year were the third most in the NFL, and beat writer Ryan O'Halloran believes Ivory will handle more carries on first and second down than RB T.J. Yeldon, and Yeldon will serve as the primary third-down back.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Yeldon's dynasty owners were excited about what he showed last year during his rookie season. The addition of Ivory this offseason throws a wrinkle in those prospects for 2016. We'll be watching to see how both of these RBs are used leading up to the regular season. At this time, Ivory has a more favorable ADP (7.07) than does Yeldon (8.02) in 12-team PPR leagues.

BUF - QB Tyrod Taylor wants to open up offense

    Source:

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor expects more out of the offense because he has a year of experience under his belt, and he wants to open up the passing game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Taylor proved a lot as a passer during his first year as a starter in the NFL. He has a rocket arm, but Taylor can throw deep with timing, touch and accuracy. The nature of a Rex Ryan offense is to run, run, run...but we'd like to see Taylor get a chance to do more through the air.

HOU - More muscle for WR DeAndre Hopkins

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins said he has gained more weight by adding muscle this offseason.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Added strength should help Hopkins win contested catches. It may also help with his yards after contact. Last year, Hopkins tied for 107th in the league with only 57 yards after contact. By comparison, Falcons WR Julio Jones was the top wideout in the league with 261 yards after contact. Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski led all receivers in the league with 289 yards after contact in 2015.

HOU - OLB Jadeveon Clowney full healthy

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans LB Jadeveon Clowney (foot) said he is at 100% health. Clowney dealt with a mid-foot sprain late last season but did not undergo offseason surgery.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Are we sure about that? Clowney's pro career has been marred by injury, and he may never be the player the Texans envisioned when they selected him with the no.1 overall pick in 2014. If he is healthy, then he's going to be relied on to create pressure on opposing QBs opposite superstar DE J.J. Watt.

NYG - Sterling Shepard still impressing

    Source: NJ.com - Jordan Raanan

New York Giants WR Sterling Shepard has caught everything so far during offseason activities, according to QB Eli Manning.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're not surprised. Shepard is an explosive athlete who has exciting run-after-the-catch ability. In college at Oklahoma, Shepard was known as a precise route-runner and as a player who his QB could rely on. We're expecting him to win the WR2 job for the Giants opposite Odell Beckham Jr. He's a WR5 for fantasy owners with the upside of at least a WR3/flex option in certain matchups.

CLE - WR Brian Hartline released

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Cleveland Browns WR Brian Hartline was released Monday, May 23, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No surprise here...especially after the Browns added four WRs in the 2016 NFL draft. Hartline compiled 523 yards on 46 receptions, with two touchdowns in 12 games last season. There may be a team interested in adding a veteran WR that could add Hartline as training camp gets closer.

NYG - Eli Apple works out of slot

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Dan Graziano

New York Giants CB Eli Apple worked on the outside and at nickel cornerback during organized team activities Monday, May 23. 'It's going to be a challenging transition,' Apple said of working in the slot.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Apple is a big, physical corner who won't back down from a challenge. Working in the slot may not be his best fit as he's not quite as 'twitchy' as slot corners usually are. It will be interesting to see if the rookie can make plays from that position.

JAX - Luke Joeckel playing some guard

Source: The Associated Press - Mark Long

Jacksonville Jaguars OT Luke Joeckel played some guard in organized team activities Monday, May 23.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ladies and gentlemen, we give you another version of Robert Gallery. Like Gallery, Joeckel was a top-5 pick who is better inside at guard than tackle. Gallery was a star inside at guard for the Raiders, but we'll see if Joeckel can make a positive impression working inside for the Jaguars.

GB - OLB Clay Matthews returning to OLB

    Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky

Updating a previous report, Green Bay Packers LB Clay Matthews will return to outside linebacker in 2016.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantastic! Matthews can play inside, but he truly thrives on the outside as a pass-rusher for the Packers. Last year, Matthews had only 6.5 sacks rushing from the inside. He could double that number this year if the team is able to move him back outside.

JAX - Dante Fowler wearing brace

Jacksonville Jaguars DE Dante Fowler (knee) is wearing a brace on his left knee to help protect the anterior cruciate ligament he tore last offseason.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Fowler will be wearing that brace until he's fully comfortable coming back after missing all of his rookie season. The young pass-rusher said it felt good coming back, but he knows he still has work to do to make a full recovery.

    Wednesday Update

CIN - TE Tyler Eifert may miss Week 1 Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (ankle) may not be ready for the start of the regular season, according to a source. Eifert will have surgery on his injured ankle in the near future. His expected recovery time is three months.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Eifert suffered this injury during the Pro Bowl, but the team just decided to put him under the knife now. The Bengals are already short on targets with WRs Mohamed Sanu (Falcons) and Marvin Jones (Lions) moving on in free agency. When healthy, Eifert is a star TE and top-5 fantasy prospect at his position. Keep an eye on this situation as camp approaches. We think Eifert may skip the preseason in order to try and be ready for the start of the regular season.

PIT - Le'Veon Bell says he'll be ready

    Source: SportsCenter

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell (knee), who is recovering from surgery for a torn medial collateral ligament in his knee, said he plans on making a full return in time for Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bell has confidence that he'll be ready, but we're not so sure. He had major knee surgery back in November of last year, and his status for the start of training camp is up in the air. Bell himself may be ready, but the team may want to ease him into action later this year.

BUF - WR Sammy Watkins expected for opener

Source: The Buffalo News - Tyler Dunne

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) is expected to be ready for Week 1, but the team doesn't have a target date for his return set, according to general manager Doug Whaley.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Watkins is on crutches right now which is not unexpected given his foot surgery. He is likely to be limited in camp and we may not even see Watkins in the preseason as he recovers.

NYG - WR Victor Cruz targeting training camp

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Dan Graziano

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) jogged around the practice field Tuesday, May 24, as the team is targeting around training camp for him to return to full participation.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's a good sign that he's off to the side doing some work, but we'll believe it when we see it. Cruz is a favorite of everyone, but major injuries could have robbed him of his once-promising future.

NE - RB Dion Lewis optimistic for Week 1

    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) has given signs of optimism for being ready for the start of the season. Some close to Lewis feel that he's about a month away from being able to play in a game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lewis showed last year just how productive he could be in this system before he went down with this injury. The team will be wisely cautious with him, and his repetitions in organized team activities will be limited at best. If healthy, we see Lewis as a RB2 with RB1 upside in the Patriots high-powered offense.

CLE - RB Duke Johnson an every-down back?

    Source: ESPN.com - Pat McManamon

Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson believes RB Duke Johnson can be an every-down running back in the NFL. Johnson had a chance to win the starting job in 2015 but suffered a hamstring injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson may have the ability to be a full-time RB in the NFL, but he may be best suited playing a change-of-pace role. He's an explosive player who can be used similarly to the way Jackson used Gio Bernard when he was OC with the Bengals. Isaiah Crowell may be the lead back with Johnson working behind him.

GB - WR Jordy Nelson is on schedule

    Source: Packers.com

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (knee) is right on schedule in his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, according to head coach Mike McCarthy. It's still unclear if Nelson will participate in organized team activities.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Getting Nelson back will be a huge boost for the Packers passing game. They just weren't the same without him in 2015. With Nelson back on the field, things should open up for WR Randall Cobb. He's a top-10 fantasy WR when healthy, and his current ADP (WR8, 2.02) in 12-team PPR leagues backs that up.

TB - Jameis Winston talks up WR Kenny Bell

    Source: Buccaneers.com - Scott Smith

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Kenny Bell gives the Buccaneers a big-play threat who can stretch the field, according to QB Jameis Winston. Winston expects big things from Bell in 2016.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Our very own Matt Waldman was high on Bell last year with the talented WR came out of Nebraska. Bell was a fifth-round pick of the Bucs last year in the draft, but he missed his rookie season after a preseason hamstring injury knocked him out for the year. He didn't have any receptions in two preseason games, but know that Bell's natural talent could come through this year and beyond. He's a competitive player who can make difficult catches seem routine. He'll be the Bucs WR3 this year behind Mike Evans and Vincent Jackson.

PIT - Maurkice Pouncey claims full health

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Ray Fittipaldo

Pittsburgh Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey (leg) participated fully in organized team activities Tuesday, May 24.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Getting Pouncey back at full strength will be a great asset for the Steelers offensive line. Pouncey said his injured leg is at 100% despite having multiple surgeries last year to repair a fractured fibula in his left leg.

OAK - Mario Edwards participates in OTAs

    Source: CSNBayArea.com - Scott Bair

Oakland Raiders LB Mario Edwards Jr. (neck) is participating in organized team activities Tuesday, May 24, after being medically cleared for football activities earlier this month.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Great news for the Raiders here. Edwards found out he was dealing with a genetic condition in his neck and a late-season injury last year put his future in the NFL in doubt. Neck injuries are nothing to take lightly, but now Edwards looks like he's ready to rock. The Raiders have the makings of a team who could surprise in 2016.

OAK - TE Clive Walford should be ready for camp

    Source: ESPN - Adam Caplan

Oakland Raiders TE Clive Walford (knee) is expected to be cleared well before the beginning of training camp. He did not participate in organized team activities Tuesday, May 24.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

All signs point to this whole "lacerated knee" thing as being quite minor. Walford is one of our favorite young TEs in the league. He's a TE2 for fantasy owners this year, but the upside to be a top-12 fantasy TE is there with the athletic Walford.

TEN - WR Kendall Wright is heavier

    Source: TitansOnline.com - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans WR Kendall Wright said he feels more explosive at his current 195 pounds, 12 pounds heavier than he was last season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is good news for Wright as he's been a player to get banged up too often. The Titans are going to use their "exotic smashmouth" offense to move the ball mostly on the ground, so we see Wright as low-end WR5 for fantasy owners. His current ADP is WR59 (13.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

DEN - TE Virgil Green had surgery

Source: USA TODAY Sports - Lindsay H. Jones

Denver Broncos TE Virgil Green (finger) had surgery on his finger and will miss most of organized team activities, according to head coach Gary Kubiak.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

An interesting tidbit revealed today after practice. Green has been an underused receiver to this point in his pro career. A seventh-round pick in 2011, Green had a career-high 12 catches in 2015. This surgery is going to give second-year TE Jeff Heuerman a chance to emerge in the TE-friendly Kubiak system.

DEN - Trevor Siemian takes first-team reps

Denver Broncos QB Trevor Siemian started with the first-team offense for the first day of organized team activities. Head coach Gary Kubiak said the quarterback competition is open but praised all of the quarterbacks.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Siemian has more experience under Kubiak than does rookie Paxton Lynch or veteran Mark Sanchez. The second-year pro has a big arm, but he struggles with accuracy. The team is quickly grooming Lynch to take over as the starter. If he plays up to his potential, Siemian is merely a backup-caliber QB.

TEN - QB Marcus Mariota has added weight

    Source: TitansInsider.com - Terry McCormick

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota is up to 225 pounds from the 210 pounds he weighed last year. Mariota said he'd like to stay at 225 pounds.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's good for a player who may take more hits since he's a runner. Mariota turned in a strong rookie campaign last year, but he was hurt with two MCL injuries in his first season. Being heavier should help him absorb the NFL punishment he'll get on Sundays.

DEN - Devontae Booker close to 100%

Source: The Denver Post - Cameron Wolfe

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker (knee) has been doing almost all of the drills the other running backs are doing in organized team activities, and it looks like he's close to 100% in his recovery from a knee injury in college.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Booker said earlier this year that he's about 90 percent healthy. While he wants to 'take someone's job' Booker is more likely to be a three-down-back-in-waiting for the Broncos in 2016. If C.J. Anderson stays healthy, he's likely to get the largest workload of his football career with Booker playing a reserve role--and competing for touches with Ronnie Hillman.

DEN - QB Mark Sanchez participating in drills

Source: The Denver Post - Cameron Wolfe

Denver Broncos QB Mark Sanchez (thumb) is doing just about everything the other quarterbacks are doing in organized team activities Tuesday, May 24. Sanchez isn't taking snaps under center, however.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sanchez can't take snaps from under center right now as he's recovering from thumb surgery on his non-throwing hand. He's competing for the starting job in Denver and got off to a rough start at OTAs on Tuesday as his second pass of practice was intercepted by LB Corey Nelson.

    23. BAL - Three Ravens RBs for one spot

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Jeff Zrebiec

Baltimore Ravens RB Lorenzo Taliaferro, RB Terrance West and RB Trent Richardson are likely to compete for one roster spot in training camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is a group of has-beens and never-weres, but it will be interesting to see who emerges. Richardson has the highest upside, but his career has been knocked off track by injuries and lack of motivation. The former no.3 overall pick (2012) has worked hard this offseason to reshape his body in an effort to play up to his potential. We're not counting on Richardson here, but he may be the most likely to emerge if he truly has "gotten it."

    24. PIT - Pittsburgh may use two TEs in red zone

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Pittsburgh Steelers TEs Ladarius Green and Jesse James may both be on the field at the same time in the red zone because of their height.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That would make a lot of sense..especially since WR Martavis Bryant is suspended for the year. Green has a fine skill set, but he's never really played up to his full potential. The Steelers would like him to do that this year, but they also have the huge prospect (second-year TE Jesse James) to develop as well. James is raw at the position, but he's tall, has a large wingspan and can play 'above the rim' in the NFL.

    Thursday Update

CIN - TE Tyler Eifert could miss multiple games Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Updating previous reports, Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (ankle) will undergo surgery on his ankle Wednesday, May 25, and he could miss the first couple of games of the regular season, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The timetable for Eifert is unknown at this time. The Bengals offense would sorely miss the star TE even if he only misses a game or two. The team is going to have a new-look passing game with different targets for QB Andy Dalton. If Eifert is out, then we'll see Tyler Kroft in a larger role.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners need to monitor Bryant as he continues to recover from this injury. Bryant admitted that he needs to be patient during his recovery, but said he feels great. He did participate in the early part of organized team activities Wednesday, May 25, before his rehabilitation.

PHI - No QB order set in Philly

    Source: ESPN.com - Phil Sheridan

Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Frank Reich said that the order set with QB Sam Bradford as the No. 1, QB Chase Daniel as the backup and QB Carson Wentz as the third guy is 'probably not the right impression.' 'But the other thing that -- as coaches -- that you've got to establish is a culture of competition. This is one of the most competitive industries in the world and so, to say that there's not competition, that's just the furthest thing from the truth.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Reich needs to be cautious with what he says so Bradford doesn't get upset. Of course no order has been set. Bradford SHOULD be the starter for Week 1 as the team has indicated they'd like Wentz to sit and develop. However, if Wentz shows that he's better in camp then we could see their future franchise QB take over early this year...perhaps even Week 1.

DAL - QB Tony Romo feeling great

    Source: ESPNDallas.com - Todd Archer

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (collarbone) isn't worried about his long-term future and thinks he can play four or five more years. He also said he feels 'ahead of the game' in his offseason work. Quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson said Romo has looked 'phenomenal' in offseason workouts.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Cowboys need to be ready just in case Romo goes down again. He's great when healthy, and the Cowboys can win a lot of games with Romo in the lineup. However, he seems to always be banged up and the team struggles without him. They selected Dak Prescott in the draft this year to groom as a potential QB of the future.

WAS - WR DeSean Jackson not at workouts

Washington Redskins WR DeSean Jackson has not participated in voluntary workouts this week, but he has visited the Redskins.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This doesn't sound like a big deal. There are some veterans who just decide to workout on their own as the voluntary portion of the offseason continues. Head coach Jay Gruden said Jackson knows what kind of shape he has to be in and does expect him to participate in other voluntary workouts.

PIT - TE Ladarius Green idle from ankle surgery

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Ladarius Green (ankle) is out of organized team activities as he recovers from offseason ankle surgery. He doesn't have a firm timetable, but he's hopeful to be ready for training camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Green has always had the talent, but he's a player who has never truly played up to his potential. This ankle surgery is not a great start now that he's with a new team. The team should accelerate his learning curve if he's ready for training camp. With Green out, second-year pro Jesse James will get an opportunity to showcase his skill set.

NYJ - Coach hopeful QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is re-signed

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles said he's 'hopeful' that QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is re-signed by training camp. However, Bowles didn't say he's confident.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Things are getting back on track with the Jets and Fitzpatrick. The two sides were at an impasse earlier this year, but now the QB market has dried up and Fitzpatrick will likely lower his asking price in order to play with the Jets. If (when?) he's signed, Fitzpatrick should start and could put up high-end QB2 numbers for fantasy owners. But that hasn't happened yet so stay tuned.

GB - RB Eddie Lacy still has weight issue?

    Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky

Green Bay Packers RB Eddie Lacy still weighs 'in the 240s,' according to a source. Lacy did P90X workouts in the offseason and turned to basketball and boxing, too. It was reported back in April that Lacy had already lost 15 to 18 pounds. Head coach Mike McCarthy characterized Lacy's condition as 'so far, so good.' 'Eddie will be fine,' McCarthy said. 'I believe he'll hit the target that we're all looking for when the lights come on.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The weight is an issue, and Lacy has worked hard this offseason to get into better shape. However, Lacy just needs to stay healthy and produce. If he can do that, the "Fat Eddie Lacy" talk will die down.

PIT - QB Ben Roethlisberger has high expectations

Source: Pittsburgh Tribune-Review - Mark Kaboly

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger said the offense will be looking to average 30 points per game in 2016 even though WR Martavis Bryant has been suspended for the entire season. 'It is still our goal,' Roethlisberger said. 'We were close last year, but we didn't get there.' The Steelers averaged 26.4 points per game in 2015 but the average increased to 28.9 points when Roethlisberger started or played at least a half.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners have high expectations for one of the league's best offenses. With Roethlisberger healthy, the team is capable of making a deep postseason run because they can move the ball against any defense.

WAS - Washington not looking at RB Arian Foster

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Free-agent RB Arian Foster (Achilles') does not appear to be an option for the Washington Redskins at this point.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Washington is not one of the teams that has shown interest and actually reached out to Foster this offseason. The Dolphins, Seahawks, Broncos and Patriots--and maybe the Chargers--could show interest in Foster when he's able to pass a physical.

MIA - RB Arian Foster still option for Miami

Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson

Free-agent RB Arian Foster (Texans) is still receiving interest from the Miami Dolphins.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We think the Dolphins are the front-runners for the veteran back. They have been looking to add competition at the position all offseason. Foster should be able to pass a physical in a week or so, and the veteran might get signed soon after. Stay tuned. If Foster is added to the Dolphins roster, he's in line to compete for the starting job with only Jay Ajayi and rookie Kenyan Drake in his way.

Free-agent LB Dwight Freeney (Cardinals) will likely visit the Atlanta Falcons next week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Freeney is visiting with the Bengals this week, and there's a chance he finds a new home with Cincinnati. If not, the Falcons could certainly use a veteran like Freeney as a part-time pass-rusher.

NYJ - CB Darrelle Revis could be back for camp

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

New York Jets CB Darrelle Revis (wrist) could be ready for the start of training camp. 'I can't answer that completely, but I hope he will,' head coach Todd Bowles said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Jets are built to play strong defense, and Revis is a big reason why as he'll protect the back end. We'll see the team take it easy on him as he continues to recover. He'll be ready at some point during camp.

    Friday Update

SEA - TE Jimmy Graham ready for season's start? Source: Seahawks.com

Seattle Seahawks TE Jimmy Graham (knee) might be ready to play in Week 1 of the regular season, according to head coach Pete Carroll. Graham continues to recover from a torn patellar tendon he suffered last season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The other big question is, how will they use him? Seattle was very inconsistent with his targets for a lot of the season, but when they threw a lot at him, he made plays. We're hoping that they learned their lesson and have him block less than he catches. For now we rate him as a good TE2, if he's ready to go.

SEA - Thomas Rawls could be ready Week 1

    Source: Seahawks.com

Seattle Seahawks RB Thomas Rawls (ankle) may be healthy enough to play by Week 1 of the regular season, according to head coach Pete Carroll. Rawls is still recovering from a fractured ankle he suffered late last year.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rawls has a lot of upside when he finally takes the field, potentially as a very good RB2. The question will be when that happens. We like him a lot, but it's going to be tough to trust him in drafts. Meanwhile, keep an eye on rookie CJ Prosise and Christine Michael, both of whom could solidify themselves as part of an RBBC or more.

DEN - Denver QB competition open

Source: The Denver Post - Troy E. Renck

Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak said Tuesday, May 25, that competition is open at quarterback in organized team activities. However, QB Mark Sanchez's experience gives him the clear edge over QBs Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch despite not having started a season opener since 2012. Sanchez must perform in training camp to hold the other two young QBs off. If he wins the job, Sanchez must limit turnovers during the season to keep the job.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

As we knew it would be. We think that Sanchez will get the nod, as Lynch has a longer way to go and Siemian, while familiar with the offense, isn't more than a third-string quarterback. The weapons that are there for whomever gets the nod are impressive, with Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders on the outside to throw to. That said, we don't know we'd like anyone here as more than a QB3 as the Broncos are going to be one of the most run-heavy teams in the league.

NYJ - WR Brandon Marshall, WR Eric Decker absent

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets WRs Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker are both not in attendance for organized team activities this week. Head coach Todd Bowles downplayed their absence, but Decker stayed away because he's upset that the Jets have yet to re-sign QB Ryan Fitzpatrick. The reason for Marshall's absence is unclear.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There's a lot of confusion about this, as we have conflicting reports about the absences and there is something about this that feels self-perpetuation rather than true. That said, this should have no impact on the Jets' plans. If they let players dictate policy, the team will be a disaster, guaranteed.

NYJ - No talks between QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, Jets

Source: New York Post - Brian Costello

Free-agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets) has not had contract talks with the New York Jets over the last few weeks, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This isn't really about the "OTA holdout" drama. The simple breakdown is this: no team is jumping at the opportunity to sign Fitzpatrick, certainly not at whatever inflated price he wants. He and the Jets will get a deal done and it won't break the bank. The only way this goes differently is if some quarterback gets hurt in the near future.

SEA - RB Marshawn Lynch Reportedly Told Teammates He Might Play In 2016

    Source: SI.com

Jason Cole of the Bleacher Report reports Marshawn Lynch told two ex-teammates that he has plans to play in 2016.

"Cole reports Lynch’s agent does not think he will play, but Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman recently expressed some doubt that Lynch would stay retired. “I don’t put anything past him,” Sherman said. “He’s about as predictable as a pair of dice. So I don’t try to call his plays.” [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep an eye on this one. He doesn't have exactly a team friendly contract so if Lynch did return there are questions as to what the Seahawks would do. Lynch is obviously one that isn't predictable so nothing is certain until he signs retirement papers. We'll stay on this one for you.

MIA - More freedom for QB Ryan Tannehill

Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill said the Dolphins will mix things up in new head coach Adam Gase's offense. Tannehill said there's more variability and versatility under Gase than there was with former offensive coordinator Bill Lazor. Tannehill will also be adjusting more on the fly, whether that's with routes, protection or even just the play in general.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gase is going to find out real quick how much he can depend on his quarterback. Tannehill has made some strides but can still be erratic. Gase's offense is exciting, and could produce some good points if Tannehill is up to the task. We see him as a solid QB2 but he has some upside in this scheme.

NE - TE Martellus Bennett, QB Tom Brady connecting

    Source: Patriots.com - Paul Perillo

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady and TE Martellus Bennett connected several times in the red zone, including some touchdowns, during organized team activities Thursday, May 26. Bennett was New England's primary tight end in practice with TE Rob Gronkowski (undisclosed) not practicing.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gronkowski is the top target, but don't be surprised if the Patriots get Bennett highly involved. Once upon a time they had Aaron Hernandez across from Gronkowski, and it worked beautifully. Bennett could replicate that. We like him as a nice TE2 option with upside.

TEN - RB DeMarco Murray looks explosive

Source: The Tennessean - John Glennon

Tennessee Titans RB DeMarco Murray has received praise from both head coach Mike Mularkey and QB Marcus Mariota during organized team activities this week. 'I certainly liked some of the cuts I saw,' Mularkey said. 'Even without pads on, those were cuts he wasn't going to get touched on. It was going to be an explosive run. You can tell when a play is going to work and not work.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Murray is saying and doing all the right things in the wake of the drafting of rookie Derrick Henry, and it looks like the result is a continued status at the top of the food chain. We're not expecting superb fantasy numbers this year, but he should serve as a second or third fantasy back in the Titans "exotic smashmouth" backfield.

NYJ - QB Geno Smith receiving first-team reps

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets QB Geno Smith is receiving first-team repetitions ahead of QBs Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg during organized team activities. However, the coaching staff hasn't defined the specific positions on the depth chart for the quarterbacks.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

As he should. Unless one of the other two are a revelation, or Smith is a disaster, he's the starter. This could also change if (when?) Ryan Fitzpatrick gets signed, in which case Geno Smith might not even stay with the team. The Jets quarterback situation is cloudy, and we don't know what to expect from Smith in Chan Gailey's offense. He has some upside but precipitous downside.

DAL - Ezekiel Elliott must earn starting job

Source: Fort Worth Star-Telegram - Clarence E. Hill Jr.

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott must compete to earn a starting role this year, according to running backs coach Gary Brown. Elliott was drafted fourth overall by the Cowboys and will compete with RBs Darren McFadden and Alfred Morris. 'It's a lot faster pace,' Elliott said. 'The game moves so much faster. Yesterday, I'm not going to lie, I was a little bit shell-shocked. But today I came out. I was a little bit more prepared and was more ready mentally so it was a little bit easier for me.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We think this is all just posturing. Elliott is an incredible talent and the moment he gets the playbook under control, we can't imagine him as a second or part-time back. It might take a while in camp, but we think he overtakes McFadden and Morris.

NFL - RB Arian Foster a month away from usual form

Source: ABC 13 - David Nuno

Free-agent RB Arian Foster (Achilles') said he would need about a month to get to where he needs to be physically. 'I probably need another month to get where I am, the person everyone is used to seeing,' Foster said. 'I can definitely play but I need another month to be where I want to be and be at that pro-bowl level I can be at.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We don't know where he'll end up, if anywhere and so we have no idea what his value is. You have to wait and see what the situation is in his new "home." Put our chips on the Miami Dolphins as the team to sign Foster. However, the Patriots, Seahawks, Lions and even the Chargers could be interested.

NFL - WR Wes Welker undecided about playing

    Source: NFL Network

Free-agent WR Wes Welker (Rams) said he's still weighing his options and hasn't decided if he'll play in 2016.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Welker has had a lot of concussions and we would rather see him healthy and with a good quality of life down the road than another 20 catches. It's good he's taking his time with a critical decision, but we think he's better off hanging up the cleats for good.

DAL - RB Alfred Morris not available

Dallas Cowboys RB Alfred Morris and RB Darren McFadden are not available for trade, executive vice president Stephen Jones said Thursday, May 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll see if that lasts, but it's wise to keep the backfield intact for now. Once Ezekiel Elliott gets up to speed, we may see one of them moved, but the Cowboys know depth at any position is critical. We see Elliott as a solid RB1 in his rookie season, but the most McFadden or Morris will be is a handcuff.

PIT - WR Antonio Brown torches rookie

Source: Pittsburgh Tribune-Review - Mark Kaboly

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown beat CB Artie Burns for a pair of touchdowns in the first day of OTAs Thursday, May 26, and WR Darrius Heyward-Bey said he believes a 2,000-yard season is possible for Brown.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Well, it doesn't really mean anything, especially when it's arguably the best receiver in the game beating a rookie. That said, we were unimpressed with the selection of Burns when it happened and this doesn't fill us with unicorns, rainbows and optimism. Brown is, of course, a WR1. We'll see if everyone is when they line up against Burns.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jamaal Charles is getting healthy while Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West got extensions, so if he did ask for a trade, we couldn't blame Davis. With that much talent ahead of him there's no point in having him on your roster this year.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Saints want to get their young rookie some snaps with Brandin Cooks out. It does tell you that perhaps Brandon Coleman might see less play this year and that's worth keeping an eye on. We do think Willie Snead will stay with Cooks back and healthy, bit Thomas could have some decent WR4 value with upside.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He probably won't end up as a starter, but his size and speed have always made him intriguing as a pro prospect. Watch how this plays out in case he surprises, but we expect Kendall Wright, Rishard Matthews and Dorial Green-Beckham to get most of the targets.

Richardson has never recovered from whatever happened to him in Cleveland, and while there is room for him to make some inroads into the carries of the players ahead of him, we don't trust him. An injury in minicamp isn't changing our mind.

CAR - WR Kelvin Benjamin back at practice

    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (knee) is back at practice in organized team activities Thursday, May 26, for the first time since tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee in training camp last year. Carolina is likely to ease him back into work, though, after he totaled 1,008 receiving yards and nine touchdowns as a rookie.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're all about the Benjamin, who we are excited to see in this offense again. It was pretty potent without him and his production in his rookie season was outstanding. It's a good combination and right now we can see him as a solid WR2 for fantasy owners.

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Triplett

New Orleans Saints WR Brandin Cooks (undisclosed) is out of practice Thursday, May 26, and working on the side with trainers.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're not worried about this, though we never love to see a player on the sidelines...even in OTAs. Cooks looks poised to put up WR2 numbers this year and have his second straight 1,000-yard season.

DET - RB Ameer Abdullah had offseason surgery

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah (shoulder) had surgery to fix a torn labrum in his shoulder in January and could miss the rest of the offseason, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. Abdullah led the team in rushing last year with 597 yards. He's said to be ahead of schedule in his rehab, but the Lions are being cautious with him until training camp. Abdullah is expected to be the starting running back in 2016.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Abdullah played through the injury in December, and likely won't take part in any of the offseason program, perhaps even camp. We expect a decent season from him this year, but he might start off a bit slow because he'll have missed so much work. This whole season, Abdullah will likely split time with at least Theo Riddick. That's been cooked into his current ADP of RB30 (7.02) in 12-team PPR leagues.

    Saturday Update

GB - WR Jordy Nelson taking things slow Source: Packers.com - Wes Hodkiewicz

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (knee) said his surgically repaired knee is fine, but he understands why the team is limiting his work during organized team activities. Nelson has been allowed to run, lift and perform all of the drills the trainers ask him to do.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good! There's no need for him to rush back and risk re-injuring himself. Nelson has been running routes on a side field during practices. He said he will need to regain his chemistry with QB Aaron Rodgers once he is cleared to practice again.

SD - Chargers leaning towards RB committee

    Source: Chargers.com

San Diego Chargers RBs Melvin Gordon, Danny Woodhead and Branden Oliver will each be 'used to their strengths' in the upcoming season in helping comprise a committee, according to running backs coach Ollie Wilson. 'Those guys can do a lot of different things and they have all bought in to working together and having their own role instead of being (angry) not getting all the touches,' he said. 'They understand we don't have just one starter here. They are all part of our scheme and system.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners are anticipating this according to the latest ADP for the Chargers backs. The news of Gordon's microfracture knee surgery has caused his draft stock to take a tumble. He currently sits at RB27 (6.07) while Woodhead is at RB24 (5.10) in 12-team PPR leagues.

PHI - Philly teammates on board with QB Sam Bradford

    Source: NFL.com - Chris Wesseling

Philadelphia Eagles FS Malcolm Jenkins said the Eagles aren't harboring any ill feelings toward QB Sam Bradford after he skipped the start of the offseason program and demanded a trade. 'But I think right now, barring anything crazy or anything changing over the next few months, I think everybody is very comfortable with Sam and looking forward to him falling into that role,' Jenkins said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

What else are they going to say? Publicly they can stand by him, but privately you have to wonder if teammates are mad about a guy who has never really had to compete in the NFL complaining about now having to do so. The Eagles could sit Carson Wentz for his entire rookie season, but we think he's the better QB and could step into the starting lineup if (when?) Bradford struggles.

CHI - Leonard Floyd signs contract

    Source: NFL.com

Chicago Bears LB Leonard Floyd, the team's first-round draft pick, signed a four-year deal Friday, May 27, which includes a fifth-year option. Financial terms were not disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Floyd is set to be a pass-rushing force for the Bears ASAP. He can get around the edge with a good bend and burst. Floyd has an array of pass-rushing moves to get after the quarterback. However, he needs to put on a ton of weight as he's thin and may not be able to take the pounding of an every-down player in the NFL.

DEN - Denver has two No. 3 WR candidates

Source: The Denver Post - Cameron Wolfe

Denver Broncos WRs Cody Latimer and Bennie Fowler are expected to compete for the No. 3 wide receiver job during training camp. Latimer has performed well during offseason workouts during the last few seasons but has not recorded great numbers during the regular season. Fowler had a decent role in the passing game in 2015 but injuries and inconsistency dropped him on the depth chart.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's a make-or-break year for Latimer. He's flashed in practice, but bad chemistry with Peyton Manning led him to be unproductive over the last two years with the Broncos. With only 8 catches in his pro career (after the Broncos moved up in the second round of the 2014 NFL draft to get him), Latimer needs to start producing as more than just a special teams player. Fowler may take his spot behind Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders. The former Michigan State WR plays larger than his size, is physical at the point of the catch and fearless running routes over the middle.

JAX - QB Blake Bortles meets with TE Julius Thomas

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike DiRocco

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles said he met with TE Julius Thomas multiple times this offseason because he wants the same chemistry with Thomas that he had last year. 'We had a chance this offseason to sit down multiple times, watch film and talk about things,' Bortles said. 'Talk about what he wanted from me and what I wanted from him and how we can quickly get on the same page to grow together.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thomas is a stud when healthy...but he's never played a full 16-game season in his pro career. The Jaguars are building something good on offense, and Thomas can be a big part of what they do in the passing game--especially in the red zone. He's a low-end TE1 with the potential to catch double-digit touchdowns.

BAL - TE Dennis Pitta encouraged by health

    Source: BaltimoreRavens.com - Sarah Ellison

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) is 'totally confident' in his surgically repaired hip, and he said he feels better than ever before with no lingering health issues.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Head coach John Harbaugh said Pitta looks like the Pitta of old during OTAs, but we'll believe it when we see it. The signs are encouraging, but the team is in non-contact practices so far.

NE - Patriots QBs splitting reps

Source: Boston Herald - Jeff Howe

New England Patriots QBs Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo split first-team reps at practice Thursday, May 26. Last year, Brady dominated the top-tier work.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team is wise to prepare Garoppolo for a starting role just in case Brady's four-game suspension is upheld. Some dynasty owners are excited about Garoppolo's upside, but we want to see him show more boldness as a pocket passer before we get too excited. In college, Garoppolo didn't respond well to even mild pressure.

MIA - WR DeVante Parker healthy

Source: The Miami Herald - Adam H. Beasley

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (foot) missed much of last summer after having surgery to put a screw in his foot. But Parker said he's fully healthy now and expects to take a big step forward in his sophomore season. He's been asked by the new coaching staff to learn every receiving position on the field, including the slot. 'I expect big things out of him. I'm expecting him to be a heck of a football player, a guy that other teams fear, because he can make big plays down the field, inside,' QB Ryan Tannehill said. 'He's a big-bodied guy. He's a guy we're going to want to use in the red zone, on third downs and to stretch the field as well.' Parker amassed 286 receiving yards in the final three games of 2015.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Parker is a young, stud receiver with great upside in the Adam Gase offense. We're excited by what the Dolphins could do this year with a coach who knows how to craft a high-powered offense. Parker has a current ADP of WR31 (6.12) in 12-team PPR leagues, and he could easily outperform that position in 2016.

IND - TE Dwayne Allen may be on field more

    Source: Colts.com - Kevin Bowen

Indianapolis Colts TE Dwayne Allen could see the field considerably more in the upcoming season, as new offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski may elect not to use as many multiple tight-end sets as former offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton. The players listed behind Allen on the depth chart are all unproven, being TEs Jack Doyle, Erik Swoope and Darion Griswold.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Coby Fleener moved on in free agency to the Saints, and that leaves "Robocop" aka Allen as the primary tight end. We like Swoope in super-deep dynasty leagues, but Allen really has no competition for snaps at the position. His current ADP of TE17 (13.03) seems too low.

GB - WR Davante Adams ready to bounce back

    Source: ESPNWisconsin.com - Jason Wilde

Green Bay Packers WR Davante Adams said he wasn't proud of his performance last season, but he plans to prove to the team and to himself what he is capable of in 2016.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He can help himself by improving his concentration. Adams is a good athlete who can get open, but there are sometimes when he struggles to catch a cold. With Jordy Nelson back, we can't see Adams getting many looks...even if he wins the WR3 job behind Nelson and Randall Cobb.

DAL - RB Alfred Morris not available

Source: Fort Worth Star-Telegram - Charean Williams

    Sunday Update

CLE - Corey Coleman could be returner Source: ClevelandBrowns.com - Patrick Maks

Cleveland Browns WR Corey Coleman is a candidate to return punts and kicks in his rookie season because of his great speed, short-area quickness and ability to make defenders miss, according to special teams coordinator Chris Tabor.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Remember this when considering the rookie in leagues that reward points for return yards and/or return touchdowns. In addition to being a dangerous receiver, Coleman is likely to be the lead WR for the Browns in 2016.

WAS - RB Matt Jones' yards after contact lacking

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins RB Matt Jones ranked 45th among running backs last season in yards after contact (1.44). He did improve in that area later in the season, averaging 1.68 yards after contact in the second half of the season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones is not quite "motorboat" worthy as a power back. Smaller backs like Ameer Abdullah (28th, 1.7), Ronnie Hillman (30th, 1.65) and Duke Johnson Jr. (32nd, 1.62) rank well above Jones. The league average for yards after contact per rush is 1.82 yards, so Jones clearly has a ton of room for improvement. By comparison, Thomas Rawls led the league with an average of 2.68 yards after contact per rush.

DEN - Possible figures for Paxton Lynch

Source: The Denver Post - Troy E. Renck

Denver Broncos QB Paxton Lynch's four-year rookie contract is expected to earn him around $9.5 million. It was reported earlier that Lynch's agent believes a deal will be completed soon.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There's no such thing as a rookie holdout anymore. The rookie salary cap means all rookies are slotted in order of the way they were picked. Last year's 26th overall pick, Ravens WR Breshad Perriman, signed a four-year $8.7 million deal with a $4.6 million signing bonus. Lynch will get a bump for being a QB and because the cap has gone up slightly. He's the last of the Broncos rookie draft class to sign, but there's not going to be any hangup. Lynch is competing with Mark Sanchez to be the team's starting QB in 2016.

WAS - Josh Doctson could make red-zone impact

    Source: CSNMidAtlantic.com - Tarik El-Bashir

Washington Redskins rookie WR Josh Doctson can be a great weapon in the red zone for the Redskins, according to QB Kirk Cousins. 'It's very natural for him to go up and catch [the contested pass],' Cousins said. 'He can run well. He has got great size. Having a guy like Josh could also be a great weapon in the red zone.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We could see that. Doctson was used to getting targeted heavily during his college career at Wyoming then TCU. He's a "plus-possession" receiver who is fearless when running routes over the middle. Doctson has great "my ball" mentality and he can win at the point of the catch regularly. As a rookie, Doctson will be competing for targets behind outside starters DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon.

WAS - Kirk Cousins talks up WR Jamison Crowder

    Source: CSNMidAtlantic.com - Tarik El-Bashir

Washington Redskins WRs Jamison Crowder will come into his second season with more confidence and common sense, according to QB Kirk Cousins. Cousins said Crowder has a natural sense of how to get open, knows how to run different routes, has great natural hands and can break away after the catch.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A fourth-round pick out of Duke in the 2015 NFL draft, Crowder had a productive rookie season for Washington. He snared 59 catches for 604 yards and two touchdowns in 16 games. Crowder is quick and can get open against tight coverage. His numbers should dip this year with the addition of first-round WR Josh Doctson (TCU). We still have a lot of love for Crowder in dynasty leagues.

ARI - RB Chris Johnson likes RB tandem

    Source: ArizonaSports.com - Craig Grialou

Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Johnson said he believes he and RB David Johnson can be the best running back tandem in the NFL. David Johnson said Chris Johnson has helped him become a more patient running back.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Chris Johnson still has the speed to be dangerous when given a crease, but second-year pro David Johnson is set to be the team's lead back. At this time, David Johnson has a current ADP of RB4 (1.08) in 12-team PPR leagues while Chris Johnson is considered RB57 (14.02).

GB - WR Ty Montgomery's ankle improving

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Lori Nickel

Green Bay Packers WR Ty Montgomery (ankle) said he has been pain free since having surgery on his ankle, and his flexibility has been making consistent progress. Head coach Mike McCarthy said he has no 'long-term' concerns about Montgomery's ankle.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Montgomery has fine athleticism and can make defenders miss after the catch. A third-round pick out of Stanford last year, Montgomery is set to compete for the WR3 job with the Packers behind Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb.

JAX - DE Malik Jackson enjoying new role

Source: The Florida Times-Union - Hays Carlyon

Jacksonville Jaguars DT Malik Jackson said he is enjoying the freedom he has in head coach Gus Bradley's defense that relies on the three-technique tackle providing constant interior pressure.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

After paying Jackson a $85 million contract, the Jaguars are going to let him loose against the passer. He was a strong edge rusher for the Broncos last year, but his six sacks in 2015 could be doubled this year with his new team.

CIN - WR A.J. Green ready to carry offense

Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Paul Dehner Jr.

Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green said he knows that the offense is only going to go as far as he and QB Andy Dalton can take it in 2016.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good thing he's ready, because that's what the Bengals are going to need him to do. Not only did they lose Marvin Jones (Lions) and Mohamed Sanu (Falcons) in free agency, but star TE Tyler Eifert may miss some games to start the season due to ankle surgery.
