    THIS WEEK IN THE NFL
    AFC

Baltimore - Head coach Jim Harbaugh said WR Breshad Perriman is not running "fully" yet in his recovery from knee surgery.
Why It Matters - Earlier this week, QB Joe Flacco said he plans on free agent addition WR Mike Wallace having a "huge impact", so Perriman might not even be a regular on the field if Steve Smith and Kamar Aiken reprise their roles and level of play from last season. Perriman is still basically at the beginning of his rookie year, which doesn't bode well for 2016 fantasy value.

Buffalo - QB Tyrod Taylor's agent Adisi Bakari said on Sirius XM that the Bills didn't go to the playoffs last year because of discipline and defense, not Taylor, who was exceptional in Bakari's eyes.
Why It Matters - Taylor is playing for only one million dollars this year and his agent is trying to jockey for more before the season begins. It looks like the Bills aren't going to budge, making Taylor prove it this year before he gets paid in free agency next year. Bakari is probably not helping his client's case, but with the quarterback shortage, he could still win out in 2017 if Taylor doesn't fall on his face this year.

Buffalo - Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams announced RB LeSean McCoy will not be charged after allegedly having a role in a February 7 nightclub fight.
Why It Matters - There were specters raised of a long suspension for McCoy when this incident first happened, but that possibility seems very slim at this point. With no arrest, and no obvious action by the Bills that indicates a belief in a long suspension, we can probably go back to drafting McCoy and sidekick Karlos Williams assuming McCoy will be the starter and miss no time due to this incident.

Cincinnati - Jason Cole of Bleacher Report reports that the Bengals ownership has grown "impatient" with head coach Marvin Lewis.
Why It Matters - Lewis has been keeping the Bengals out of the news for the wrong reasons, and they are now a consistent winning team, but they haven't won a playoff game in 25 years. If Lewis is let go after 2016, it could spell more success for a team that seems to be held back by their head coach now that the personnel management is among the best in the league.

Cleveland - Head coach Hue Jackson said the team still hasn't decided on the position that they want Terrelle Pryor to focus on in 2016, but they will find a way to showcase his ability.
Why It Matters - Pryor has been coached as a quarterback by Jackson in Oakland and Cincinnati, and he has more familiarity with Pryor's skillset as a quarterback than just about any coach in the league. If Pryor gets a chance to stick at quarterback, he could easily start at some point if Robert Griffin III and a rookie are his main competition and Josh McCown is traded before the season.

Denver - ESPN's Jeff Legwold reports that head coach Gary Kubiak has reached out to free agent QB Johnny Manziel.
Why It Matters - Manziel has to get past a likely suspension for a domestic violence incident and he might not even be signed for the 2016 season, but Manziel and Kubiak share Texas A&M roots, and his mobility would fit very well in Kubiak's system. He might not help in the 2016, but exploring Manziel as a future option is smart even if it looks like a foolish move right now because the Broncos lack a long-term answer at quarterback.

Oakland - The Raiders signed OLB Aldon Smith to a two-year, 11 million dollar deal.
Why It Matters - Smith is out until at least November, but with Khalil Mack and now Bruce Irvin in the pass rush, he could be harnessed to be an impact player on passing downs, and help the Raiders continue to be more competitive on both sides of the ball. This is a risk/reward move that indicates the Raiders are making a push to get over the hump this year.

Tennessee - GM Jon Robinson said trade interest in the #1 overall pick has "increased".
Why It Matters - The Titans won't get an RG3-to-Washington kind of bounty for their pick, but they can still get a lot from any team looking to leapfrog Cleveland at #2 to get the quarterback they want. The Titans have their quarterback, and they would probably prefer to have more picks in a draft without that clear generational talent at any position.
    NFC

Arizona - Head coach Bruce Arians said RB David Johnson has "earned the right to be the bell cow".
Why It Matters - Arians has been stubbornly committed to dependable veteran backs over more dynamic young runners, but it sounds like Johnson has earned his allegiance. Chris Johnson held off David last year and he is back, but it sounds like CJ2K and Andre Ellington will have to earn any work they get in the backfield this year.

Atlanta - Head coach Dan Quinn said RBs Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman make a "pretty unique combination", complimenting Coleman's ability in the outside zone run plays.
Why It Matters - Freeman was a revelation at times last year, and Coleman fought through three different injuries (hamstring, broken ribs, concussion), but Quinn's comments paint a picture of Coleman getting another shot to stake his claim to a good-sized part of the workload this year. Freeman is going in the second round, which could be too high if this becomes a true RBBC.

Detroit - The Lions signed RB Stevan Ridley to one year deal for the minimum of 760,000 dollars, with 250,000 guaranteed.
Why It Matters - New Lions GM Bob Quinn knows Ridley from their time together in New England, and Ridley said Quinn knows Ridley needs sustained work to get going. Ridley will battle Zach Zenner to be the between the tackles back for Detroit, and he could be a formidable enough back to win the job if he is over his 2014 ACL tear. Deep dynasty league players and early season waiver wire watchers should remember Ridley as long as he makes the team.

San Francisco - Jason Cole of Bleacher Report reported that QB Colin Kaepernick will not be traded to the Broncos, while Mike Klis of 9 News Denver reported that the trade talks are "still on". Meanwhile, Matt Maiocco from CSN Bay Area reports Kaepernick is still at least a month away from re-taking the field after multiple offseason surgeries.
Why It Matters - The draft might spur action here, as the 49ers should want to harvest any picks they get for Kaepernick this year. The Broncos don't want to pay all of his 11.9 million dollar salary, but the 49ers are resisting paying part of Kaepernick's way because quarterbacks are in demand. In the end, San Francisco could decide it is better to pay some of Kaepernick's way to get a draft pick instead of paying all of his way to have him sit on the bench like he did last year. It is not a foregone conclusion that Kaepernick could beat Blaine Gabbert in a quarterback competition.

The Kaepernick saga continues, Gabbert is not a good alternative for 9ers.
