NFL Player News - Conference Championship Week

    Courtesy of Footballguys.com

CAR - DE Jared Allen plans to play
Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers DE Jared Allen (foot) plans to continue playing even though he broke a small bone in his foot during the divisional round playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks Sunday, Jan. 17, according to a source. Allen was able to play in the game despite the injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep an eye on this as we'll see plenty more this week here. Predictions for playing next week made immediately after a game are always a bit suspect. Stay tuned.

PIT - No scores for QB Ben Roethlisberger

    Source: The Associated Press

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 24 of 37 passes for 339 yards in a 23-16 loss to the Denver Broncos in the divisional round of the playoffs Sunday, Jan. 17.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
A valiant effort from a wounded Roethlisberger. In the end, they fell just short.

DEN - QB Peyton Manning quiet in win

    Source: ESPN.com

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning completed 21 of 37 passes for 222 yards in a 23-16 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the divisional round of the playoffs Sunday, Jan. 17.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wins and losses are what matters and Manning managed to lead Denver to a win. We'll see the Brady - Manning showdown next week that many of us (myself included) thought we'd never see again.

SEA - WR Jermaine Kearse catches two TDs

    Source: The Associated Press

Seattle Seahawks WR Jermaine Kearse caught 11 passes for 110 yards and two touchdowns in the divisional round playoff game against the Carolina Panthers Sunday, Jan. 17.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kearse really helped spark the Seahawks offense. They were down 31-0 in the first half, but the Seahawks kept firing with Kearse being a favorite target of QB Russell Wilson.

SEA - RB Marshawn Lynch quiet in playoff game

    Source: The Associated Press

Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch rushed for 20 yards on six carries in the divisional round playoff game against the Carolina Panthers Sunday, Jan. 17.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lynch was back, but he was far from "Beast Mode" on Sunday. It was his first game since Week 10, and the team gave him plenty of time to rest after his sports hernia surgery. Due $11.5 million in 2016, this might have been the final game of Lynch's Seahawks career. The team could save $6.5 million by cutting the veteran back as he's coming off a career-low 417 rushing yards in 2015.

CAR - TE Greg Olsen finds end zone

    Source: The Associated Press

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen caught six passes for 77 yards and one touchdown in the divisional round playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks Sunday, Jan. 17.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Olsen made a fantastic play to catch Cam Newton's only TD pass of the day. In the fourth quarter, Olsen injured his shoulder but was able to return to the game. The team should take it easy on the veteran tight end during practice this week leading up to the NFC Championship Game against the Cardinals on Sunday.

CAR - RB Jonathan Stewart surpasses 100-yard mark

    Source: The Associated Press

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries in the divisional round playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks Sunday, Jan. 17.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This was the first time the Seahawks had allowed a 100-yard rusher since facing Jamaal Charles in Week 11 of the 2014 season. Stewart did most of his damage in the first half, and he gashed the Seahawks for a career-long 59-yard run. Against the Cardinals in the NFC Championship Game, Stewart should once again be a big part of what the Panthers do on offense.

CAR - QB Cam Newton has solid performance

    Source: The Associated Press

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton went 16-for-22 for 161 yards and one touchdown in the divisional round playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks Sunday, Jan. 17.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Newton didn't have to do much as the Panthers got a 31-0 lead in the first half...mostly due to their defense and rushing attack. When the team needed Newton to make a play, he did and was able to advance the Panthers to the NFC Championship.

GB - WR Randall Cobb released from hospital

    Source: Twitter

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb (chest) said he was released from the hospital Sunday, Jan. 17, and that he is feeling much better. Cobb suffered a bruised lung Saturday, Jan. 16, against the Arizona Cardinals.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news here. Any injury to the lungs just sounds painful and serious. With Jordy Nelson returning healthy next season, we should see Cobb return to his natural role as a playmaking WR2 for the Packers.

    Tuesday Update:

SEA - RB Marshawn Lynch's future uncertain

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch's future with the team is uncertain at this point, according to head coach Pete Carroll.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lynch will be greatly overpaid at a nine million dollar salary next year. Look for Thomas Rawls to start in Seattle and Lynch to either retire or take a smaller role in Seattle or elsewhere.

CAR - RB Jonathan Stewart sore, but OK

    Source: Panthers.com

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (foot) is sore, but there's no major concern Monday, Jan. 18.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Stewart scored twice against Seattle and he could be a big factor against the Cardinals run defense that gave up a big run to Eddie Lacy in the win over the Packers.

SEA - WR Jermaine Kearse hopes to return

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks impending free-agent WR Jermaine Kearse said he hopes to re-sign with the Seahawks this offseason.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kearse had one of his best games of the year in the loss to the Panthers this weekend. He could draw interest as a receiver with vertical speed and good size.

SEA - Thomas Rawls will be ready for 2016

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks RB Thomas Rawls (ankle) said he will be out of his cast in the near future and will be ready for the 2016 season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With Marshawn Lynch a flop this year and Rawls on the road to recovery, look for the second year UDFA to get a chance to start and probably go off the board as a top 20 running back in drafts this summer.

GB - RB Eddie Lacy needs to lose weight

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Tom Silverstein

Green Bay Packers RB Eddie Lacy cannot play at his current weight and will have to work hard this offseason to lose some weight, according to head coach Mike McCarthy.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lacy was effective at times, but he obviously lost the confidence of the coaching staff. His status as a coveted dynasty commodity is in question.

    CIN - Three coaches hired

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Former Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator Bill Lazor has been hired by the Cincinnati Bengals as their new quarterbacks coach. The Bengals have also hired former Dolphins defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle as defensive backs coach and former Washington Redskins assistant coach Jacob Burney as their defensive line coach.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Coyle was a strong defensive backs coach for the team from 2003-2011 and Lazor was a sought after offensive mind just one year ago. These are smart moves by a franchise that has turned into a head coach factory lately.

CAR - DE Jared Allen will be doubtful

Source: NFL Network - Albert Breer

Carolina Panthers DE Jared Allen (foot) will not participate in practice Wednesday, Jan. 20, and will be listed as doubtful for the NFC Championship game against the Arizona Cardinals. Head coach Ron Rivera said the team will take things day-to-day with Allen.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Allen's best pass rushing days are behind him, so while the team certainly needs him, this might not be that big of a blow despite the need for pressure on Arizona's vertical passing game.

KC - Brad Childress moves to OC for Chiefs

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Kansas City Chiefs offensive assistant Brad Childress is being installed as the offensive coordinator in the wake of former offensive coordinator Doug Pederson departing to coach the Philadelphia Eagles.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Childress was Andy Reid's quarterbacks coach and the offensive coordinator of his offense between 1999-2005, so this should mean no changes in the offense and continuity for the team.

PHI - Doug Pederson officially joins Eagles

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson was officially announced as Philadelphia's new head coach Monday, Jan. 18.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pederson is basically an extension of the Andy Reid era, which says something about Eagles owner Jeff Lurie's perspective on the Chip Kelly regime. It will be interesting to see who he hires as an offensive coordinator and what parts of the Kelly program and offense he keeps.

OAK - RB Latavius Murray coming off career year

    Source: Raiders.com - Eddie Paskal

Oakland Raiders RB Latavius Murray gained 1,865 total yards, including over 1,000 rushing yards, and six touchdowns this year in his second season in the NFL. Murray said the 1,000-yard season is exciting, but he knows there's a lot more for him to do.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Murray wasn't always able to get the running game going, but a robust passing game helped open things up for him. He should be a third or fourth round pick in redraft leagues this summer.

DET - Jim Bob Cooter officially hired

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Detroit Lions interim offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter was hired for the full-time position Monday, Jan. 18.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Matthew Stafford has to be happy as his production went through the roof under Cooter. He was in his comfort zone in Cooter's offense and Stafford should be set up for success this coming season.

TEN - Terry Robiskie to be Titans' OC

    Source: ESPN.com - Paul Kuharsky

Atlanta Falcons wide receivers coach Terry Robiskie was hired as the offensive coordinator by the Tennessee Titans Monday, Jan. 18.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Robiskie hasn't been an offensive coordinator since a five-year stint with the Raiders from 89-93. He has been an excellent wide receiver coach and he should help Dorial Green-Beckham and Tre McBride's development.

    DEN - TE Vernon Davis a non-factor

Source: The Denver Post - Nicki Jhabvala

Denver Broncos TE Vernon Davis played one snap Sunday, Jan. 17, in the divisional round game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The ballyhooed trade didn't amount to much in the first playoff game, but Davis had fluctuating performances in the regular season too.

STL - Jason Michael hired by Rams

    Source: ESPN.com - Paul Kuharsky

Former Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Jason Michael was hired by the St. Louis Rams Monday, Jan. 18, as either tight ends coach or passing game coordinator.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Michael was able to get some good passing game production out of Marcus Mariota with Mariota's limited experience and an underwhelming supporting cast in the passing game. He can't hurt the Rams ailing passing game.

NYG - DE Jason Pierre-Paul has another surgery

Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Michael David Smith

New York Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul (hand) had another surgery on his hand. This procedure is intended to give Pierre-Paul more flexibility in his middle finger, with the hopes that next season he’ll be able to wear a modified glove and have some grip strength in his hand. Last season he wore a full-hand club and could not grasp anything with his injured hand.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pierre-Paul had come at least part of the way to his old self by the end of the season and he could be most of the way back with some help from this additional surgery. The Giants have Steve Spagnuolo to help the defense get back to respectability.

Huge for him. In bad conditions last week I didn't think he was terrible, I saw some truth to both sides of how ppl viewed his performance. Wr's did him no favors at all but at same time he wasn't putting them in best positions w his ball placement. I thought there were several throws that had more zip than certainly earlier this season but again others w his fluttering noddle arm effect. In his prime the wind has never been his friend so better conditions would obviously favor him.

Isn't Peyton's record when the weather is lower than 20 usually pretty bad?

w/o looking id venture to guess his is as bad as bradys is good..despite pats history in den you gotta believe that week 17 head scratcher they played in mia with home field on the line had at least a little to do with the fact they wernt fearing this trip and hoping for typical terrible weather. just a hunch.

    Wednesday Update:

NFL - RB Ray Rice still wants to return

    Source: TMZ.com

Free-agent RB Ray Rice (Ravens) continues to train and remains hopeful of landing a spot to resume his NFL playing career in 2016. 'Honestly, I'm never going to give up. You don't want to give up something you started. You want to finish the right way,' Rice said Tuesday, Jan. 19.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Nothing would surprise us, but it just doesn't seem like Rice is going to play in the NFL ever again.

PIT - Big Ben talks WR Martavis Bryant

    Source: NFL.com - Dan Hanzus

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant needs to take the next step to become the best in the world this offseason, according to QB Ben Roethlisberger.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bryant has amazing upside, but he needs to be more consistent. Fantasy owners should consider Bryant a WR2 with WR1 upside in certain matchups. In only 11 games this year, Bryant ranked as the 32nd fantasy receiver.

ARI - RB Chris Johnson ready for Super Bowl

Source: USA TODAY Sports - Tom Pelissero

Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Johnson (leg) will be ready to play if the Cardinals make it to the Super Bowl. Johnson said he feels explosive and that he could have played last weekend, but he is not eligible to return from the short-term Injured Reserve until next week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson is not eligible to return until/unless the Cardinals make the Super Bowl. His speed will be a great asset for one of the league's most high-powered offenses.

NE - Oblique strain for OLB Jamie Collins

    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

New England Patriots LB Jamie Collins (oblique) suffered an oblique strain in the divisional round win over the Kansas City Chiefs Saturday, Jan. 16.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Collins is athletic enough to keep up with receivers in space, and he can get to the ball-carrier or quarterback in a hurry. The strain is not believed to be serious, and we're expecting him to play in the AFC Championship Game against the Broncos on Sunday.

DEN - QB Brock Osweiler looking for three-year deal?

Source: The Denver Post - Troy E. Renck

Denver Broncos impending free-agent QB Brock Osweiler will command a deal in the range of a three-year, $36 million deal this offseason, in the opinion of The Denver Post's Troy E. Renck.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're not sure the Broncos would be willing to pay that price. Osweiler is in an interesting situation, and the Broncos may only want to offer something around two years for $20 million--mostly guaranteed. Even if Osweiler sticks around in Denver on a two- or three-year deal, we could see them looking at a potential quarterback of the future near the end of the first round in the 2015 NFL draft.

DEN - TE Vernon Davis buried on depth chart

Source: The Denver Post - Troy E. Renck

Denver Broncos TE Vernon Davis has been passed on the tight end depth chart by TEs Owen Daniels and Virgil Green, mainly after struggling with drops in Week 15 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The return of QB Peyton Manning as the starting quarterback hasn't helped, either. Davis' opportunities will continue to be limited.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Broncos made a splash when they traded for Davis in 2015, and the move hasn't paid off. Instead, Davis barely plays and when he does he's not productive. He's a free agent next year, and the Broncos will likely not bring him back.

CLE - Ray Horton a favorite in Cleveland

    Source: ESPN.com - Pat McManamon

Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Ray Horton is the favorite to become the next defensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns. Horton interviewed for the position Tuesday, Jan. 19. Horton ran the defense in Cleveland in 2013.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Horton is a well-respected coach who seems like a good fit with the new-look Browns. This deal should happen in the near future.

SEA - RB Marshawn Lynch to have big cap hit

    Source: ESPN Stats and Information

Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch will take an $11.5 million cap hit next season -- the highest cap hit for any running back under contract for 2016. Comparatively, RB Thomas Rawls will only take a $530,000 cap hit. Additionally, Rawls drastically out produced Lynch in 2015. Lynch gained 497 yards from scrimmage on 292 snaps, with 3.8 yards per carry and a 57% third-down conversion rate. Rawls gained 906 yards from scrimmage on 279 snaps, with 5.6 yards per carry (most in NFL) and a 75% third-down conversation rate.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We can't imagine the Seahawks keeping Lynch around at his current price. He may have played his final downs for the Seahawks, and maybe even in his pro career. Lynch has danced around retirement before and doesn't seem to be the type of player who will play far past his prime. Stay tuned.

NE - ILB Jerod Mayo going to IR

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

New England Patriots LB Jerod Mayo (shoulder) is being placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Jan. 19, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Losing Mayo isn't a huge loss for the Patriots defense, and he might have played his final snaps with the team. According to Spotrac.com, in 2016 Mayo will earn a base salary of $3.25 million, a roster bonus of $4.5 million and a workout bonus of $250,000. Mayo has a cap hit of $11.4 million while his dead money value is $4.4 million. We can't see any way the Patriots pick up his option for 2016 and beyond.

PHI - QB Sam Bradford finished on strong note

    Source: NFL.com - Conor Orr

Philadelphia Eagles impending free-agent QB Sam Bradford completed 202 of 304 passes for 2,164 yards and 10 touchdowns while throwing just five interceptions in his final eight games of the 2015 season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll see what kind of deal Bradford would be willing to accept in order to stay with the Eagles. It will be interesting to see how the contract could be structured given Bradford's lengthy injury history. Bradford has already been lauded by new head coach Doug Pederson, and Pederson believes Bradford would be a perfect fit in the system Pederson will implement.

DEN - Denver run game had success against Pats

    Source: NFL.com - Gregg Rosenthal

Denver Broncos RBs Ronnie Hillman and C.J. Anderson combined to rush for 172 yards in a Week 12 win over the New England Patriots. Anderson closed out the divisional round win over the Pittsburgh Steelers running well, and he could see the ball more often early against the Patriots.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Anderson and Hillman could be the key for the Broncos on Sunday. They could continue to use Hillman as the starter, but Anderson has been the more effective back in recent weeks.

ARI - WR Larry Fitzgerald has nice matchup

    Source: NFL.com - Gregg Rosenthal

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald is expected to be covered by Carolina Panthers CB Cortland Finnegan in the NFC Championship game this weekend.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Finnegan is certainly not the player he used to be, and this would be a great matchup for Fitzgerald to exploit. With Panthers CB Josh Norman focused on outside receivers like Michael Floyd, we could see Cardinals QB Carson Palmer go to Fitzgerald early and often.

PHI - QB Sam Bradford praised by new head coach

    Source: NFL Network

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford is a top-notch quarterback in the opinion of new head coach Doug Pederson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Is a top-notch quarterback worth investing big money into? Bradford also has a long injury history that will have to be factored in when considering a new deal for the veteran quarterback. Bradford is set to be an unrestricted free agent in 2016.

ARI - WR Larry Fitzgerald sets postseason record

    Source: ESPN Stats and Information

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald became the fastest player ever to reach 10 postseason receiving touchdowns. It took Fitzgerald eight games to accomplish the feat, and only six other players have caught as many touchdowns in the postseason.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We are so happy to see Fitzgerald once again play deep into the postseason. If the Cardinals get to the Super Bowl, it should be because of the play of this future Hall of Fame receiver.

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo plans to play at least four more seasons despite turning 36 this year.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Romo may want to play four more years, but will his body hold up? The Cowboys can win and go far so long as Romo is healthy. However, the team needs to consider having a better backup plan as Romo has been banged up quite a bit in recent years.

CAR - QB Cam Newton improved against blitz

    Source: ESPN Stats and Information

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton completed 59% of his passes for 8.2 yards per attempt against the blitz this season, and he had a 6.3 touchdown-to-interception rate after a 1.9 touchdown-to-interception rate against the blitz last year. Newton was sacked 6.7% of the time against the blitz this year as opposed to 9.2% last season. The Arizona Cardinals blitzed more than any other team in 2015 (45% of dropbacks).

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Newton is cool under fire, and it's showing in his play this season. The Cardinals are going to try and get after him, but Newton has the smarts and ability to avoid the rush and beat a defense with his legs or arms. This should be a great game coming up on Sunday, and it might be the best remaining game of the postseason.

PHI - Jim Schwartz hired by Eagles

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Former Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz has agreed to a deal to become the Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Tuesday, Jan. 19. The deal is not officially signed, but an agreement is in place.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Schwartz will bring a swarming defense to the Eagles while Doug Pederson works to get the offense back on track. He was not in the league last season, but Schwartz has a history and reputation of building an aggressive 4-3 defense.

ARI - QB Carson Palmer was conservative

    Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (finger) was conservative while picking plays for the early part of the divisional round game against the Green Bay Packers, but head coach Bruce Arians said the Cardinals will get back to being themselves in the NFC Championship. 'He picked a lot of shorter completions early instead of going for them like we normally do,' Arians said. 'I think that was part of 'I don't want to screw this up.'' Arians also reiterated that Palmer's right finger injury is not a problem.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Cardinals are going to live and die by the sword. They're super aggressive, and that's the way that Arians wants them to be. The Panthers have a tough defense, but you can move the ball against them. We expect the Cardinals to attack vertically and test the Panthers safeties...perhaps the weakest part of the Carolina defense.

DEN - CB Omar Bolden to IR

Source: The Denver Post - Troy E. Renck

Denver Broncos S Omar Bolden (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list with a knee injury Tuesday, Jan. 19.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bolden didn't play defense that much, but this does take away depth from their secondary. The loss of Bolden will be felt on special teams as he was the best return man on the roster.

DEN - CB Chris Harris to be limited

Source: The Denver Post - Cameron Wolfe

Denver Broncos CB Chris Harris Jr. (shoulder) was limited by a deep bone bruise in his left shoulder in the divisional round against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he was replaced by CB Bradley Roby in the base defense.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This injury to Harris could be a probelm. Harris expects a similar plan against the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship, and CB Kayvon Webster could also step in and play.

DEN - QB Peyton Manning wasn't going to be benched

Source: The Denver Post - Troy E. Renck

Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak said he never considered benching QB Peyton Manning in favor of QB Brock Osweiler in the second half of the divisional round win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. 'No,' Kubiak said. 'We were struggling because we didn't catch the ball. We would have had a really big first half. There was 100 yards of plays we left out there. We just need to keep plugging away.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We didn't feel at any time that Manning was in danger of getting put on the bench. The team is going to continue with Manning as their starter and their leader. It would take a monumental collapse from Manning for him to get benched in the AFC Championship.

NE - QB Tom Brady hasn't had success in Denver

    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady is 2-6 in his career in games played in Denver against the Broncos. 'It's a great football environment. They've had some good teams when we've played out there,' Brady said. 'I didn't realize we were 2-6, but the crowd gets into it. … We've had a lot of close games there. I think it always comes down to something at the end.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brady absolutely crushes everyone, but the Broncos (in Denver) are a different story. Throw out the records with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line. This Broncos defense is going to be tough on Sunday, but we feel Brady can find any weak spots on the team an exploit them.

CAR - DE Jared Allen unlikely to play

    Source: ESPN.com - David Newton

Carolina Panthers DE Jared Allen (foot) is unlikely to be able to play in the NFC Championship against the Arizona Cardinals Sunday, Jan. 24, due to a fractured foot. Allen will be listed as doubtful for the game. 'For the most part, it's going to be a day-by-day (issue), and we'll see how he is by the end of the week,' head coach Ron Rivera said. 'He will be listed as doubtful. As he reacts to it, hopefully we'll know going forward.' Rivera said the team will likely wait until Friday, Jan. 22, or Saturday, Jan. 23, to make a roster move if it's needed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This just sucks. We love older players who are striving for a ring this postseason, and we're pulling for guys like Allen, Larry Fitzgerald, Steven Jackson or DeMarcus Ware in the playoffs. DE Wes Horton is an obvious option to take Allen's roster spot. DE Kony Ealy is expected to start at right end if Allen cannot play, and DE Mario Addison would also see more snaps.

GB - RB James Starks to seek starting spot

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Michael Cohen

Green Bay Packers impending free-agent RB James Starks wants to find an opportunity to start.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Starks can start, and he will get a chance somewhere...perhaps not in Green Bay. The free agent class should be loaded at the running back position, and Starks will have to compete with a team to prove himself. He needs to stay healthy and do a better job of hanging onto the rock going forward.

GB - WR Jeff Janis praised by Mike McCarthy

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Lori Nickel

Green Bay Packers WR Jeff Janis posted just two receptions during the regular season, but he stepped up with seven grabs for 145 yards and two touchdowns in the playoff loss against the Arizona Cardinals. Head coach Mike McCarthy liked what he saw. 'As a receiver, he was inconsistent, had some chances, up-and-down (this season),' McCarthy said. 'But with that, I think he definitely learned from those experiences and just had a tremendous game against Arizona.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Janis saw his dynasty stock soar after a huge game against the Cardinals in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. With Jordy Nelson back next year, it will be interesting to see how the pecking order is established behind him and Randall Cobb. Janis will certainly be in the mix for that WR3 spot.

KC - S Eric Berry could be franchised

Source: The Kansas City Star - Terez A. Paylor

Kansas City Chiefs S Eric Berry is set to become an unrestricted free agent in March. He had no drop off after returning from Hodgkin lymphoma, and the team could use the franchise tag on him, which is projected around $10 million this year for safeties.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Berry is one of our favorite players in the league. The Chiefs could use the tag on him as it's really not that expensive considering the position.

Carolina Panthers RB Fozzy Whittaker (ankle) is close to full strength and plans to practice Wednesday, Jan. 20.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Even if Whittaker practices, we can't see him having a large role against the Cardinals on Sunday. This rushing attack is built around Jonathan Stewart.

that what happens when you get a guy that doesnt play because he loves it but because he knew it was his ticket.. once that ticket cashed there no motivation to put in the necessary work.. more power to him i guess but no matter what my job ever been i do it as hard and well as i can, it called personal pride which far to many lack.

    Thursday Update:

DEN - QB Peyton Manning, TE Owen Daniels practice

    Source: Patriots.com

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning (foot) and TE Owen Daniels (knees) both practiced in full Wednesday, Jan. 20.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Manning is not the same player he used to be, but the Broncos are hoping to find some Mile High Magic on Sunday against the Patriots. If the Broncos can keep the pressure away from Manning, that should greatly help the production of the offense.

NE - QB Tom Brady, WR Brandon LaFell practice

    Source: Patriots.com

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady (ankle) and WR Brandon LaFell (foot) both practiced in full Wednesday, Jan. 20.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brady's ankle was a non-issue against the Chiefs in the Divisional Round. Traveling to the Mile High City, Brady should be plenty healthy and a great threat for a strong Broncos defense.

CLE - WR Josh Gordon applies for reinstatement

    Source: ESPNCleveland.com - Tony Grossi

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon has applied for reinstatement to the league, confirmed a source with knowledge of the process who requested anonymity because of the league's confidentiality rules.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is an important story for fantasy owners to monitor as Gordon can be a top-5 WR if healthy and playing in the NFL. Gordon's fate will be known within 60 days of the receipt of his application, per rules of the reinstatement process. He is under the Browns' control for 2016. If reinstated, Gordon can become a restricted free-agent in 2017.

NE - TE Rob Gronkowski has owned Denver

Source: USA TODAY Sports - Lindsay H. Jones

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski has 40 catches for 516 yards and six touchdowns in six games against the Denver Broncos going back to 2011, including six catches for 88 yards and a score in Week 12 this year.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gronkowski is a problem for most every team in the NFL, and the Broncos are no different. However, the Broncos do struggle against good tight ends...and Gronkowski is great. In order for the Patriots to win, they'll likely target Gronkowksi early and often.

CAR - Arizona focused on TE Greg Olsen

    Source: NFL.com - Chris Wesseling

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen will be a focal point for the Arizona Cardinals defense in the NFC Championship game, according to Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians. 'Greg's going to be a problem because he's everywhere,' Arians said. 'He is their focal point. If we take him out of the passing game, that's 40% of their offense. That's our goal. That's hard to do, though.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The best part of the Panthers passing game is Olsen. The Cardinals know that slowing him down is key to stunting the production of the Panthers offense. We'll see if the Panthers can find creative ways to get Olsen open on Sunday.

PIT - Sign RB Daryl Richardson

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Ed Bouchette

Free-agent RB Daryl Richardson (Browns) was signed to a Reserve/Futures contract by the Pittsburgh Steelers Wednesday, Jan. 20.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's an interesting move for the Steelers, and dynasty owners in super super deep leagues may still be holding onto the speedy back. Richardson is incredibly fast, but he's not strong between the tackles.

CAR - RB Jonathan Stewart expects to be ready

    Source: NFL.com - Dan Hanzus

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (ankle) expects to be ready for the NFC Championship Sunday, Jan. 24, after tweaking his ankle in the second half of the divisional round last weekend. Head coach Ron Rivera said the team is easing him back into action. Stewart rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns in the win over the Seattle Seahawks and became the first rusher to go for over 100 yards against Seattle this year. The Panthers have rushed for 100-plus yards in 30 straight games, including the playoffs.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Stewart was huge for the Panthers offense against the Seahawks in the Divisional Round. Expect a healthy dose of Stewart as the Panthers look to take down the Cardinals in the AFC Championship Game.

CAR - RB Fozzy Whittaker should be available

    Source: ESPN.com - David Newton

Carolina Panthers RB Fozzy Whittaker (ankle) should be able to play in the NFC Championship against the Arizona Cardinals, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If he's available, Whittaker will only serve as a backup option behind starter Jonathan Stewart.

CAR - DE Jared Allen ready to play?

    Source: ESPN.com - David Newton

Carolina Panthers DE Jared Allen (foot) needs to show head coach Ron Rivera enough to convince him that he can play in the NFC Championship against the Arizona Cardinals Sunday, Jan. 24.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There are conflicting reports about Allen, but we'd be surprised if he plays against the Cardinals on Sunday. The Panthers can't afford to be stuck with three defensive ends if Allen is active and can't play, according to Rivera.

    SF - Eric Rogers signing

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Free-agent WR Eric Rogers (CFL) is signing a two-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers Wednesday, Jan. 20. The deal comes with a $125,000 signing bonus, $75,000 in bonuses and a $100,000 base salary guarantee.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is one of the largest deals for a Canadian player, and it shows the value of Rogers in the NFL. A Division III (California Lutheran) undrafted free agent in 2013, Rogers has been getting interest from about half the teams in the NFL before agreeing to sign with the 49ers. He's a big receiver with a nose for the end zone.

    Friday Update:

DEN - Denver not looking ahead

Source: NFL Network - James Palmer
Denver Broncos president and general manager John Elway won't comment on the future of QBs Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler, saying the team is 'staying in the moment' right now.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

They kind of need to deal with this whole "New England Patriots" problem first. We won't see Osweiler this weekend unless something goes completely sideways (and potentially explodes, implodes or otherwise catches fire) but we wouldn't start Manning in fantasy either giving both his struggles and the issues his receivers have holding onto the ball.

ARI - Full practice for QB Carson Palmer

    Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (finger) participated fully in practice Thursday, Jan. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Palmer faces a tough defense, but we still don't hate starting him in daily fantasy games as he has more receiving options than he knows what to do with.

DEN - CB Chris Harris expected to play

Source: NFL Network - James Palmer

Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos CB Chris Harris Jr. (shoulder) is expected to play in the AFC Championship against the New England Patriots, according to head coach Gary Kubiak. President and general manager John Elway said earlier Thursday, Jan. 21, that Harris would be a game-time decision, but Kubiak doesn't agree with Elway.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This will make things a bit harder on Julian Edelman, but we expect Tom Brady to find a way to get him the ball even against this secondary.

Carolina Panthers RB Fozzy Whittaker (ankle) practiced in full for the second straight day Thursday, Jan. 21.

He may help at fullback but barring a Jonathan Stewart injury, we don't see Whittaker having much fantasy value.

KC - RB Jamaal Charles will be back

    Source: ESPN.com - Adam Teicher

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) will be back for the start of the regular season this year, according to general manager John Dorsey. 'The guy is an extremely talented player,' Dorsey said. 'I love him to death, love how dirty tough he is. Yeah, he's a Chief.' Charles missed all but five games in 2015 with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll see if he is able to recapture his form. Coming back from ACL surgery, even at his age, isn't impossible. That said, Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware both played well and we could see a committee even if Charles is 100 percent.

BAL - Baltimore wants to add receiver

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Baltimore Ravens WRs Steve Smith, Kamar Aiken, Breshad Perriman and others may have more company next season. General manager Ozzie Newsome said the Ravens have to add depth at wide receiver this offseason, whether it be through the NFL Draft or through free agency.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With Joe Flacco saying he'll re-work his contract to help the team, we assume free agency is a primary focus. That's only good for an offense which is depending on an aging star like Smith to carry its weight.

NE - QB Tom Brady, WR Brandon LaFell practice

    Source: Patriots.com

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady (ankle) and WR Brandon LaFell (foot) both practiced in full for the second straight day Thursday, Jan. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

LaFell is no more than an upside/Hail Mary type play, but Brady should do well even against a tough Broncos defense. We wouldn't be too scared of playing him in daily contests this weekend.

ARI - Limited practice for two Cardinals

    Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson (toe) and WR John Brown (shoulder) were limited in practice Thursday, Jan. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We think Johnson will bounce back this week, even though Marshawn Lynch struggled last week. He's one of the only remaing "full carry" running backs in the playoffs, so he's got one of the higher ceilings of the group this week.

ARI - WR Michael Floyd came on late in season

Source: The Associated Press - Bob Baum

Arizona Cardinals WR Michael Floyd caught 44 passes for 745 yards and six touchdowns in the final 10 games of the 2015 season. Through the first five games of the season he only caught eight passes for 104 yards with no scores. Head coach Bruce Arians believes that Floyd could have achieved 1,500 yards had he not broken his hand right before the regular season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Floyd was straight fire at the end of the year and while his yardage total hasn't been great the last two games, he scored twice against Green Bay. We think he's a decent risk this weekend—Carson Palmer does look for him a lot, especially to score, but Floyd can also disappear on occasion. With so many weapons for Palmer to choose, that's a risk for everyone besides Larry Fitzgerald.

DAL - TE Jason Witten a top tight end again

    Source: USA TODAY Fantasy Sports

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten finished as a No. 1 fantasy tight end for the twelfth season in a row.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If Tony Romo had been healthy, Witten's numbers might have been even better. Of course, if Rob Gronkowski hadn't missed games himself, the numbers might be different. Witten is a guy you can wait on, and given his value each year, is practically a steal.

ARI - WR Larry Fitzgerald excelled in slot

    Source: NFL.com - Elliot Harrison

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald lined up for 505 plays out of the slot receiver position this year and had 53 catches for 626 yards. Carolina Panthers CB Josh Norman isn't expected to cover him in the NFC Championship.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Expect another good day from Fitzgerald who was a huge reason the Cardinals advanced last weekend. He may see some Josh Norman, but Norman doesn't get moved to the slot, so he may also be free a lot of the time.

    NE - Dont'a Hightower the X-factor?

    Source: NFL.com - Elliot Harrison

The Denver Broncos were only able to run for 46 yards and no touchdowns on 16 carries with New England Patriots LB Dont'a Hightower in the game in their Week 12 matchup. After Hightower left due to an injury, Broncos RBs C.J. Anderson and Ronnie Hillman piled up 133 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries. LB Jamie Collins also missed that game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll see how the backfield does with Hightower in the game this week but our own Cecil Lammey recently wrote about how Anderson has to be the key if the Broncos are to have a shot at the Super Bowl this year. He will split carries with Ronnie Hillman, but we like Anderson better and have him right behind bell cow backs David Johnson and Jonathan Stewart.

CAR - RB Jonathan Stewart limited Thursday

    Source: NFL.com - Conor Orr

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (ankle) was limited in practice Thursday, Jan. 21, and head coach Ron Rivera said Stewart 'looked pretty good.' Rivera said Stewart is expected to play in the NFC Championship against the Arizona Cardinals.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Stewart won't miss this game and we expect him to have a significant roll against Arizona to help make up for the lack of receivers. Coming off a 100-yard, two touchdown game, we think he carries that momentum forward and is one of the better starts this weekend at running back. Keep in mind, also, that he is one of only two backs who are slated to get a full load of carries as the primary ball carrier.

The Cleveland Browns are in 'no panic' to make a quick decision on the future of QB Johnny Manziel, according to new vice president of football operations Sashi Brown. The Browns will also asses the future of suspended WR Josh Gordon once they know if he'll be reinstated by commissioner Roger Goodell.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Well they'll play it close to the chest to assure themselves at least a minor chance they can trade him for something, even if it's a stack of Vinny Testaverde rookie trading cards. There's a better than even chance he is elsewhere next season.

DEN - WR Demaryius Thomas was shut down by Pats

Source: Boston Herald - Jeff Howe

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas had just one catch for 36 yards against New England Patriots CB Logan Ryan in Week 12. The matchup is expected to be the same for the AFC Championship game, and Patriots CB Malcolm Butler will likely match up against WR Emmanuel Sanders.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thomas is doing a good job of shutting himself down lately, considering the case of hand yips he seems to have contracted. The Broncos need him to pull it together soon though, and he'll get plenty of targets this week. His struggles with drops and thel ikely focus on him from the defense keeps him as a WR2 though.

DEN - Gary Kubiak has success against Pats

Source: Boston Herald - Jeff Howe

In 12 meetings since 2000, Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak's rushing offenses have averaged 28.3 carries for 122.4 yards (4.3 yards per carry) per game with 19 total touchdowns against New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We expect a heavy does of CJ Anderson and Ronnie Hillman this weekend to help mitigate the New England pass rush. Anderson is likely to have more success and is seeing a higher price in daily fantasy as a result.

BAL - QB Joe Flacco's rehab going well

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco (knee) is six weeks removed from surgery to fix two torn knee ligaments, and he said his rehab is 'going really well.' He's confident that he'll be fully recovered by the start of the regular season in September. 'I'm coming along great,' Flacco said. 'I don't think there is any way I'm not going out there ready to go right away. Don't quote me. But that's just me. I have no timetable. I'm really taking it day by day and getting better and better each week.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We expect him to be fine next year, and likely a solid low-end QB1, high end QB2 option.

SEA - No discount for WR Jermaine Kearse

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Seattle Seahawks impending free-agent WR Jermaine Kearse said he won't offer the team a hometown discount. 'I love my hometown, but I've put in too much hard work to give a discount,' Kearse said via text message. 'My number one priority is to take care of my family's future, so I will consider all opportunities.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

While Kearse had a tremendous game against the Carolina Panthers, he's not a guy who will do that consistently, so the Seahawks are at a crossroads. Not likely to want to spend the money he wants but unable to get him to take a discount.

Kearse should be happy he even gets a contract offer. As JJ would say, he's a diamond dozen.

    Saturday Update:

NE - QB Tom Brady struggled against four-man rush

    Source: ESPN.com - Bill Barnwell

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady had a QBR of 4.1 when he was pressured by a four-man or fewer pass rush in 2015, which ranked 28th among 35 qualifying passers. Nineteen% of Brady's dropbacks this year ended with him being pressured without a blitz this year, which was the ninth-highest percentage in football. However, Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Wade Phillips loves to bring extra rushers.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Broncos sent extra blitzers (five or more) after the quarterback on 41.7 percent of opponent's dropbacks in 2015. That's the 4th-highest rate in the league. The Broncos were successful creating pressure without blitzing, too, as they allowed an opponent's QBR of just 8.7 in those situations this year. They also created pressure in those situations 19.2% of opposing team dropbacks, which ranked sixth in the league.

MIA - RB Lamar Miller will enter free agency

    Source: ESPN.com - James Walker

Miami Dolphins impending unrestricted free-agent RB Lamar Miller will enter free agency this offseason, and he believes the fit with any team is the most important when considering his options. He wants to choose a team that is a good fit in scheme and opportunity. Miller finished 2015 with 872 rushing yards and 4.5 yards per carry.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Miller is going to be one of the hottest running backs on what should be a saturated market. Even though he was used more over the last two years, we still think the Dolphins didn't use him enough. Any team in need of a starting running back should be interested in Miller. The best could be yet to come with the impending free agent.

DEN - QB Peyton Manning likely will play

    Source: DenverBroncos.com

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning (foot) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 22, and is listed as probable for the AFC Championship game against the New England Patriots Sunday, Jan. 24.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He's not going to miss this game. If the foot becomes a problem and the Broncos are struggling, we wouldn't be surprised to see Brock Osweiler inserted as an emergency. It's win-or-go-home in this game, and the Broncos have to get past the current Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots to make it to Super Bowl 50.

ARI - RB David Johnson expected to play

    Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson (toe) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 22, and is listed as probable for the NFC Championship game against the Carolina Panthers Sunday, Jan. 24.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Toe injuries are complicated, and they can slow down running backs. We could see Johnson bottled up on the ground by the Panthers defense, but he's a dangerous receiver who could do most of his damage as a pass-catcher.

ARI - WR John Brown listed as probable

    Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Arizona Cardinals WR John Brown (shoulder) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 22, and is listed as probable for the NFC Championship game against the Carolina Panthers Sunday, Jan. 24.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brown's deep speed is going to come in handy. The Panthers secondary is vulnerable, and the Cardinals will work diligently to exploit them.

    NE - Three Pats questionable

    Source: Patriots.com

New England Patriots WRs Danny Amendola (knee) and Julian Edelman (foot) and TE Rob Gronkowski (knee, back) were limited in practice all week and are questionable to face the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship Sunday, Jan. 24.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We see all three playing for the Patriots. Edelman and Gronkowski are Tom Brady's favorite targets, and they should be able to move the ball against a tough Broncos defense.

SEA - TE Jimmy Graham back in Seattle

    Source: NFL.com - Jeremy Bergman

Seattle Seahawks TE Jimmy Graham (knee) will return to the Seahawks in 2016, according to Seahawks general manager John Schneider.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Graham's torn patellar tendon ended his roller coaster season. He appeared in 11 games and had a career-low two receiving touchdowns. Only two months removed from that major injury, Graham's recovery will take most of the offseason and perhaps even into training camp.

CAR - QB Cam Newton won't wear gloves

    Source: ESPN.com - David Newton

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton will not wear gloves in the NFC Championship against the Arizona Cardinals Sunday, Jan. 24, despite the weather. 'He's got big hands,' head coach Ron Rivera said. 'He doesn't need to.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Newton is on a huge stage to get to the biggest game of his career. We think it's going to be close, but Newton has the ability to transcend and lead the Panthers to Super Bowl 50. The Some people think the NFC Championship Game might be better than the Super Bowl. We'll see soon enough.

SEA - QB Russell Wilson to study in offseason

    Source: ESPN.com - Sheil Kapadia

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson, who led the league in passer rating (110.1) and set career highs in completion percentage (68.1%) and yards per attempt (8.3), will study defenses more this offseason, according to head coach Pete Carroll. Wilson tossed 24 touchdowns to just one interception in the final seven games of the regular season in 2015. Wilson improved against the blitz this year, too, with a 137.0 passer rating against five rushers or more in the final seven games. 'I think the first step is the knowledge,' Wilson said Monday. 'You want to continue to grow intellectually and master that part of it. Continue to work on that craft. I think that when you really mentally grasp the game of football, the game really, really slows down. And that’s what was able to happen this year especially.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wilson will put in the work, and the team could have an even better passing game in 2016. Getting tight end Jimmy Graham back healthy could help Wilson continue to progress as a passer. We see targets like Doug Baldwin and Tyler Lockett growing in their roles as well.

ARI - QB Carson Palmer good on the road

    Source: NFL.com - Chris Wesseling
Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer led the league in points per game (32.8), yards per game (426.3) and passing yards per game (292.8) on the road this year. He's also generated the highest passer rating (121.2) in the second half of games this year, although he's really struggled in the first half of the last two games.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Palmer will try to light it up through the air against the Panthers. The Carolina secondary can be picked on, and that's where Palmer will go vertical to move the ball and score as much as possible.

SEA - RB Marshawn Lynch leaning towards sunset

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch is leaning towards retirement, according to Seahawks general manager John Schneider.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We could see Lynch retiring instead of coming back to the Seahawks or moving on to another team. He's been considering retirement for a couple of years now, and with an $11.5 million cap number in 2016 we don't think his future is with Seattle.

CAR - Defense fading in second half

    Source: NFL.com - Chris Wesseling

The Carolina Panthers defense has allowed 22 points (against the New Orleans Saints), 28 (New York Giants) and 24 (Seattle Seahawks) points in the second half of their games in the last six weeks. CB Cortland Finnegan has been a liability in slot coverage, and fourth CB Robert McClain is playing every snap. SS Kurt Coleman is also injured and has had a bad two-game stretch.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Panthers defense is tough, but you can move the ball on them. The Cardinals have a high-powered offense, and they will test the Panthers secondary early and often on Sunday.

ARI - RB David Johnson good on the road

    Source: NFL.com - Chris Wesseling

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson led the NFL with nine touchdowns on the road this year.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson is facing a tough Panthers run defense on Sunday. His best production might come as a receiver out of the backfield.

CAR - RB Jonathan Stewart has special streak

    Source: NFL.com - Chris Wesseling

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart has rushed for at least 50 yards in 16 straight games, which is the NFL's longest active streak.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Stewart showed last week against the Seahawks just how valuable he is for this offense. Expect the Panthers to use Stewart as much as possible against a tough Cardinals defense on Sunday.

BUF - Buffalo wants WR Percy Harvin back

    Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown

The Buffalo Bills are open to a return of WR Percy Harvin (hip) in 2016, according to general manager Doug Whaley. Harvin's hip problems limited him to just five games this year, and he has an automatic opt-out clause in his contract, which will make him a free agent this offseason.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Harvin can be a dangerous weapon for the Bills if he's healthy and motivated. Buffalo would likely have to re-sign Harvin to a cost-conscious type of deal since they have limited salary cap space.

NE - WR Julian Edelman likes playoffs

    Source: ESPN.com

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman has the most targets, catches and receiving yards in the playoffs since the start of the 2013 postseason.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Broncos defense is phenomenal, but even they should have difficulty slowing Edelman down. Tom Brady will get rid of the ball quickly to avoid the pass-rushers for the Broncos, and Edelman will likely be his primary target.

CAR - RB Jonathan Stewart probable

    Source: Panthers.com
Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (ankle) is probable for the NFC Championship game Sunday, Jan. 24, against the Arizona Cardinals.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Panthers should try to shorten the game against the Cardinals. That means Stewart should be in line for a heavy workload on Sunday.

CAR - DE Jared Allen out for NFC title game
    Source: ESPN.com - David Newton

Carolina Panthers DE Jared Allen (foot) will not play in the NFC Championship game Sunday, Jan. 24, against the Arizona Cardinals, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Nobody should be surprised by this news. Allen's foot injury is just too severe to heal in such a short time. If the Panthers make it to the Super Bowl, then perhaps Allen could suit up...but we'd even doubt that at this point.

JAX - Gus Bradley signs extension

    Source: Jaguars.com

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley was signed to a one-year extension Friday, Jan. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is an odd move, but one done to just add another year onto Bradley's deal so he's not working on just one more year in 2016. With this extension, Bradley will not be a "lame duck" coach, but we still think he's on the hot seat. The Jaguars have the tools on both sides of the ball to be better than their record indicates.

DAL - Dallas drafting QB Tony Romo's replacement?

    Source: NFL.com - Dan Parr

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he is open to using the team's first-round pick, No. 4 overall, to draft an heir apparent for QB Tony Romo.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Cowboys need to find that next quarterback and have a better backup plan if Romo goes down with another injury. At the top of the draft, guys like Paxton Lynch (Memphis), Jared Goff (California) and even Carson Wentz (North Dakota State) could be options.

CLE - RB Isaiah Crowell headed for big 2016?
Source: Yahoo! Sports - Liz Loza

Cleveland Browns RB Isaiah Crowell ran for 371 yards and three touchdowns over the final five games of 2015, and Liz Loza of Yahoo! Sports believes the offensive philosophy of new head coach Hue Jackson's will benefit Crowell.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Crowell has always had the talent, and now he'll have the opportunity with Jackson running the show. He finished as the 29th fantasy running back this year in standard scoring, but if he stays healthy and is properly featured then he could break into the top 20.

MIA - Adam Gase likes QB Ryan Tannehill

Source: Palm Beach Post - Andrew Abramson

Miami Dolphins head coach Adam Gase said he believes he can limit the number of sacks QB Ryan Tannehill takes and help him improve. 'I feel pretty good about what we can do with him,' Gase said Thursday, Jan. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Gase is going to work wonders for Tannehill. In Denver, Gase was able to get the best out of Peyton Manning (think about that). In Chicago, Gase was able to resurrect Jay Cutler's career. In Miami, we think Gase is going to be an incredibly positive influence on Tannehill.
