NFL Player News - Week 17

    Courtesy of Footballguys.com

I get that most fantasy league do not and should not use Week 17, but I went ahead and started this thread anyway because much of this information is also valuable for betting purposes.

PHI - Chip Kelly let go

    Source: PhiladelphiaEagles.com

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly was released by the organization Tuesday, Dec. 29.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We appreciate the Eagles thinking outside the box with the hire of Kelly, but his personnel decisions made little sense and the results were not good. Pat Shurmur will serve as the interim head coach for Week 17. Eagles CEO Jeffery Lurie said in a statement, “We appreciate all the contributions that Chip Kelly made and wish him every success going forward." We could see Kelly resurface in the NFL (Tennessee?) in the near future.

CIN - AJ McCarron expected to play

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Cincinnati Bengals QB AJ McCarron (wrist) is expected to play in Week 17 despite a sprained left wrist, according to sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There have been varying reports on McCarron coming across the wire today. Just know that we'll know more about his availability on Friday at the latest. However, McCarron may be considered a game-time decision if he's limited on Friday....stay tuned.

JAX - Gus Bradley will return to Jacksonville

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike DiRocco

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley will return for his fourth season with the Jaguars next season, owner Shad Khan announced Tuesday, Dec. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team's mediocrity may not be tolerated much longer. Bradley currently holds a 12-35 record in his three seasons with Jacksonville. The team has shown flashes, but Bradley certainly has to be on the hot seat in 2016.

CAR - RB Jonathan Stewart could return

    Source: ESPN - Ed Werder

The Carolina Panthers are hopeful that RB Jonathan Stewart (foot) can return in Week 17 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Stewart ran on a treadmill and could practice Wednesday, Dec. 30, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Panthers could go with Stewart this week in order to get him some reps before the postseason. They've already earned a first-round bye, so if he doesn't play this week it will be two more weeks until Stewart is back on the field.

DEN - QB Brock Osweiler in line to start again

    Source: NFL.com - Dan Hanzus

Denver Broncos QB Brock Osweiler appears to be in line to start again in Week 17 against the San Diego Chargers after the Broncos Week 16 win over the Cincinnati Bengals Monday, Dec. 28. It was reported earlier Monday that QB Peyton Manning (foot) could start the regular season finale if Denver lost to the Bengals. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said there is 'no chance' Manning would start if Osweiler played well Monday. 'Yeah, I've said that. Nothing has changed with Brock,' head coach Gary Kubiak said. 'If something would change, players would know first.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Nothing is set in stone, but it looks like Osweiler will start in Week 17 against the Chargers. With a win, the Broncos secure the AFC West and a first-round bye in the playoffs. There's also a chance they could finish as the top seed in the AFC. We'll see if Manning is healthy enough to be a backup this week.

CIN - QB Andy Dalton to shed cast soon

    Source: NFL.com - Chris Wesseling

Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton (thumb) could have his cast removed as early as Tuesday, Dec. 29. However, his bone isn't fully healed yet.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dalton may still be a couple of weeks away from a return. With A.J. McCarron (wrist) banged up, we could see Keith Wenning start in Week 17 for the Bengals. If they don't get a first-round bye, we might see them have to win a game with Dalton still recovering.

BUF - TE Charles Clay placed on IR

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay (back) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Dec. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Clay had an injury-marred season in his first year with the Bills. Slowed by back and knee injuries, Clay finishes the year with 51 catches for 528 yards and three touchdowns.

IND - QB Ryan Lindley signs

    Source: ESPN - Adam Caplan

Free-agent QB Ryan Lindley (Patriots) signed with the Indianapolis Colts Tuesday, Dec. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Colts need all the help they can get at QB. They signed Josh Freeman on Tuesday as well. Freeman, Lindley and Stephen Morris could compete to be the starter in Week 17.

NE - Sebastian Vollmer will be back for playoffs

    Source: CSNNE.com - Tom E. Curran
New England Patriots OT Sebastian Vollmer's (ankle) left ankle injury wasn't as serious as previously feared, and he's expected to return for the playoffs. He is not expected to play in the Week 17 regular season finale against the Miami Dolphins.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

OT LaAdrian Waddle (shoulder) replaced Vollmer at left tackle in Week 16. Waddle then injured his shoulder, forcing OT Cameron Fleming to left tackle.

CIN - QB Mike Kafka signs

    Source: NFL.com - Jeremy Bergman

Free-agent QB Mike Kafka (Titans) was signed to the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad Tuesday, Dec. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kafka has bounced around the league to several teams over the last five years. With A.J. McCarron and Andy Dalton banged up, the Bengals just needed another arm for the scout team.

IND - Sign QB Josh Freeman

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Free-agent QB Josh Freeman (Dolphins) was signed by the Indianapolis Colts Tuesday, Dec. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Colts may be starting Stephen Morris this week. Freeman has experience as a starter, but his pro career has quickly gone off the rails.

WAS - Could Redskins rest starters?

    Source: NFL.com - Conor Orr

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins could be rested for Week 17 as the team has clinched the division crown. 'We'll have to wait and see and talk about it as a staff and see where the injury report stands with Kirk and see how he's feeling,' head coach Jay Gruden told reporters Tuesday, via the team's official site. 'But I think he is pretty injury free, but if he is injury free, a lot will depend on who's playing around him, and go from there.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There's no need to risk anything. Washington cannot gain or lose anything on Sunday, and they don't want to get a featured player hurt in a meaningless game. Whether you agree with the idea of resting players or not, DFS players and fantasy owners in Week 17 championships need to keep this in mind when selecting rosters.

DEN - WR Demaryius Thomas has hamstring injury

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeff Legwold

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas (hamstring) suffered a hamstring injury in Week 16.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Watch for Thomas to be limited during the week of practice. This team has designs of making a deep playoff run, and they don't want to worsen this injury now that they've locked themselves into a playoff spot.

IND - QB Andrew Luck still not cleared

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Wells

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (kidney) still hasn't received medical clearance Tuesday, Dec. 29, but he could play in Week 17 if he's cleared in time.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're not counting on Luck this week. That means we could see Stephen Morris start at quarterback for the Colts in Week 17. Morris is mechanically sound and athletic, but he's a pure-sight thrower with accuracy issues.

TEN - WR Dorial Green-Beckham out of sync

Source: The Tennessean - John Glennon

Tennessee Titans WR Dorial Green-Beckham went without a catch for the first time in six weeks in Week 16, and he and QB Zach Mettenberger looked to be out of sync. Mettenberger targeted Green-Beckham on just three of his 51 pass attempts.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mettenberger should up that number of targets for the talented rookie. Green-Beckham is a huge target with a large wingspan and the ability to make plays above the rim. We're excited by his dynasty prospects, but we aren't recommending the rookie WR as a starter in Week 17.

It looks like Brian Hoyer will start for the Texans in Week 17.

Coach Bill O'Brien stated Monday that Brian Hoyer is in the final stage of the NFL's protocol concussion testing.

O'Brien also made it clear Monday that Hoyer will start against the Jaguars if he gets medical clearance. O'Brien's system has been very friendly to quarterbacks since he took over as Houston's head coach, churning out fantasy-viable production from Ryan Fitzpatrick, T.J. Yates, Hoyer, and even Brandon Weeden last week. Hoyer will be a borderline QB1 if he can play in Week 17.

    Thursday Update:

NO - QB Drew Brees feeling better

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Triplett

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees (foot) didn't take part in practice Wednesday, Dec. 30, but he said he feels better this week than where he was at this time last week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's simply amazing what Brees was able to do last week with this foot injury. We like his chances of having a good game this week against the Falcons (on the road) in the season finale.

DEN - QB Peyton Manning could be backup

Source: The Denver Post - Troy E. Renck

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning (foot) will practice this week and will backup QB Brock Osweiler in Week 17 if he's healthy enough.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This would be the first time Manning has been a backup in his entire career. Osweiler is their guy, and Manning would only see the field if Osweiler gets hurt.

CLE - QB Johnny Manziel expected to sit out

Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel (concussion) is not expected to play in Week 17 against the Pittsburgh Steelers after going in the concussion protocol Wednesday, Dec. 30.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The timing of this injury is interesting to say the least. Manziel played the entire game in Week 16, and we didn't hear about him being looked at for a concussion during the game--even though he did take some big shots against the Chiefs. Now, he may not play against the Steelers. QB Austin Davis is expected to start in Manziel's place.

SEA - RB Marshawn Lynch could be back next week

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch (hernia) could return to play in the Wild Card playoff round next week, according to head coach Pete Carroll.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lynch is almost ready to return...and just in time for the postseason. We're not excited by a rushing attack where Christine Michael is the lead back. Lynch could really help punch up the offense.

NYG - Odell Beckham returning in Week 17

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Dan Graziano

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. will return from his one-game suspension to play in the Week 17 finale against the Philadelphia Eagles. Beckham said he won't change the way he plays after his suspension, but that he has learned from the experience.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We have a feeling that Beckham returns with a vengeance. Pay up for him in DFS leagues, and (obviously) start him in season-long Week 17 championships.

HOU - QB Brian Hoyer to play in Week 17

    Source: NFL.com

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion) will return as the starting quarterback in Week 17 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Great news for the Texans here. They'll wrap up the AFC South title and a playoff berth with a win on Sunday. Hoyer is a great option for DFS players looking for a cheap QB. With Hoyer back, WR DeAndre Hopkins becomes a better option for fantasy owners who are playing in Week 17.

TEN - QB Marcus Mariota ruled out

Source: The Tennessean - John Glennon

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota (knee) was ruled out for the Week 17 finale Sunday, Jan. 3.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That means Zach Mettenberger will be the starter for the Titans in the season finale. We like the Colts defense this week as a cheap defense for DFS owners.

IND - QB Andrew Luck out for Week 17

Source: 1070 The Fan - Conrad Brunner

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck (kidney) won't have time to get enough repetitions in practice this week, and he won't play in Week 17, according to head coach Chuck Pagano.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's the best move for the team. Luck is their franchise quarterback, and there's no need to rush him back. This season has been a wash after Luck was beat up against the Broncos weeks ago. If healthy, Luck should be a QB1 for fantasy owners.

BAL - WR Steve Smith coming back in 2016

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith announced on his Twitter account Wednesday, Dec. 30, that he will officially return to the Ravens in 2016. Smith previously had announced before the season that he would retire.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Woo hoo! You don't have to be a Ravens fan to appreciate what Smith brings to the field. It was sad to see him go down with a season-ending injury knowing that he planned to retire. Now, he's going to come back for one more season. This year was a wash for the Ravens, but getting Smith back will help greatly in 2016.

DAL - WR Dez Bryant's season over

Source: USA TODAY Sports - Eric Prisbell
Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (foot, ankle) will be placed on Injured Reserve Wednesday, Dec. 30, and he'll miss the season finale in Week 17.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's the best move the Cowboys. There's nothing to play for, and there's no need to try and force Bryant into action. Bryant will undergo a medical procedure on his foot and ankle in the near future, according to head coach Jason Garrett.

BUF - RB LeSean McCoy likely done

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Rodak

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy (knee) won't practice Wednesday, Dec. 30, and 'it doesn't look good' for him to play in Week 17, according to head coach Rex Ryan.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good! The Bills were dancing around McCoy's status last week, but there's no need to risk long-term injury by playing him in a meaningless Week 17 game. Yes, the Bills can be a thorn in the side of the Jets' playoff picture...but they need to take the long view here.

CHI - WR Alshon Jeffery to IR

    Source: ESPNChicago.com - Jeff Dickerson

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery (hamstring) was placed on Injured Reserve Wednesday, Dec. 30.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A disappointing way for Jeffery's 2015 to come to a close. He finishes the year with 54 catches, 807 yards and four receiving touchdowns in nine games. Jeffery is set to be a free agent in 2016, and there's no guarantee that he's coming back to the Bears. If healthy, he can be a WR1 and top-12 fantasy football receiver.

ARI - RB Andre Ellington limited

    Source: AZCardinals.com

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington (toe) was limited during practice Wednesday, Dec. 30.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ellington played last week against the Packers and finished the game with seven carries for 40 yards. If he plays against the Seahawks in Week 17, expect Ellington to have a similar role.

ARI - WR Michael Floyd does not practice

    Source: AZCardinals.com

Arizona Cardinals WR Michael Floyd (knee) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Dec. 30.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's only Wednesday, so we're not too concerned. However, make sure he practices on Friday before you trust him as a fantasy starter in Week 17 against the Seahawks.

STL - No practice for RB Todd Gurley

    Source: StLouisRams.com - Myles Simmons

St. Louis Rams RB Todd Gurley (foot) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Dec. 30.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's only Wednesday, so we're not overly concerned. However, you need to check back Friday to see if Gurley can practice before trusting him in Week 17.

WAS - WR DeSean Jackson, RB Matt Jones limited

    Source: NFL

Washington Redskins WR DeSean Jackson (knee) and RB Matt Jones (hip) were both limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 30.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're not counting on any Washington players this week. They can't move up or down in the playoff standings, so expect them to limit/bench key players in Week 17.

IND - WR T.Y. Hilton a limited participant

    Source: NFL

Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton (calf) was limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 30.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Colts QB situation is up in the air right now. No matter who starts (Josh Freeman, Ryan Lindley, Stephen Morris), we are not super excited about plugging Hilton into any fantasy lineup.

NYJ - RB Bilal Powell's status up in air

    Source: NJ.com - Darryl Slater

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell's (ankle) status for Week 17 against the Buffalo Bills is up in the air. It'll become more of an issue if he can't practice Thursday, Dec. 31. 'It wasn't as sore as he thought it was,' head coach Todd Bowles said. 'It's pretty sore now.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners need to note this. Check back on Friday to see if Powell can practice.

IND - Indy down to QB Josh Freeman, QB Ryan Lindley

    Source: Colts.com

Indianapolis Colts QBs Josh Freeman and Ryan Lindley are the likely options to start in Week 17 against the Tennessee Titans.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is a poor option for the Colts. Avoid your players from the Colts passing game. However, look for Frank Gore to have a good day.

DET - RB Ameer Abdullah finishing strong

    Source: DetroitLions.com - Tim Twentyman

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah has averaged 4.69 yards per carry in the last seven games, which ranks in the top 10 in the league in that span. The Lions have rushed for at least 100 yards in five of their last seven games. Abdullah has 328 yards on 70 carries in the last seven weeks after going for just 225 yards on 63 rushes in the first eight games.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'd like to see more Abdullah in 2016. He's a good change-of-pace back, but can he be more than that? The offensive line has been blocking better with a more simplified approach under offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter. The Lions have also had much better attention to detail in the running game of late.

IND - TE Dwayne Allen placed on IR

    Source: Colts.com - Kevin Bowen

Indianapolis Colts TE Dwayne Allen (calf) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Wednesday, Dec. 30. The team also promoted TE Erik Swoope from the practice squad to the active roster.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're super excited to see if Swoope gets some playing time. He's a former college basketball player from the University of Miami, and Swoope is incredibly athletic with the ability to play 'above the rim.'

GB - RB Eddie Lacy limited Wednesday

    Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky

Green Bay Packers RB Eddie Lacy (ribs) was limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 30.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lacy might be limited on Thursday as well, so watch to see if he can fully practice on Friday.

ATL - QB Matt Ryan takes part in practice

    Source: AtlantaFalcons.com

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan (hip) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Dec. 30.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We like Ryan as a cheaper QB option for DFS players this week. Going up against the Saints "Oprah" defense, he should be able to put up good numbers in Week 17.

MIN - RB Adrian Peterson not practicing

    Source: NFL.com

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (ankle, shoulder) is not taking part in practice Wednesday, Dec. 30.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's Wednesday, so we're not too worried about it. Watch for him to practice fully on Friday before trusting him as a fantasy starter (or DFS play) in Week 17 against the Packers.

ATL - RB Devonta Freeman limited

    Source: AtlantaFalcons.com

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (knee) was limited during practice Wednesday, Dec. 30.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team is going to take it easy on Freeman in this mid-week practice. If he fully participates on Friday, rush to get Freeman in your fantasy lineup as he plays a weak Saints defense on Sunday.

ATL - WR Roddy White wants to stay

    Source: ESPN.com - Vaughn McClure

Atlanta Falcons WR Roddy White said he would like to remain with the Falcons as long as he is under contract, despite the fact that his role has diminished under new offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan this year.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

White is signed through the 2017 season and remains the franchise's all-time leading receiver with 807 catches for 10,853 yards and 63 touchdowns. He has only 42 catches for 496 yards and one score this season in what has been a disappointing year for the seasoned veteran.

NYJ - QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has multiple injuries

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb, elbow, back) is dealing with a variety of injuries, but 'nothing serious,' according to head coach Todd Bowles.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The veteran QB is fighting through the pain for his teammates as the Jets are looking to lock up a postseason ticket. Fitzpatrick has dealt with a surgically repaired thumb since the middle of the recent and had been practicing in full in recent weeks. His elbow and back injuries came from Week 16.

SF - RB Shaun Draughn to IR

    Source: NFL.com

San Francisco 49ers RB Shaun Draughn (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Wednesday, Dec. 30.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The 49ers are now going to go forward with DuJuan Harris and Kendall Gaskins. Last week, Harris had 11 carries for 73 yards against the Lions. Gaskins only had two carries for 12 yards in Week 16.

Great news for the Bengals here. Getting Eifert back can certainly help out whoever the QB is this week against the Ravens. A.J. McCarron has a wrist injury, and his playing status for Week 17 is up in the air. He should play, but we may see Keith Wenning under center.

Cincinnati Bengals WR Marvin Jones (hamstring) and QB AJ McCarron (wrist) were limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 30.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones should play on Sunday against the Ravens. Things are looking optimistic for McCarron now, but he's not a lock to play in Week 17. Check back on Friday to see if he can fully practice.

JAX - WR Allen Robinson limited

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Robinson (shoulder) was a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Dec. 30.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Robinson is getting a bit of rest here. Make sure he practices on Friday, but start him with confidence in Week 17 if he does.

Jacksonville Jaguars RB T.J. Yeldon (knee) and WR Allen Hurns (thigh) did not practice Wednesday, Dec. 30.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hurns should play in the season finale, but Yeldon may not. Check back on Friday.

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) did not practice Wednesday, Dec. 30.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson will play if he's healthy enough to suit up in Week 17 against the Chicago Bears, according to head coach Jim Caldwell. See if he can practice on Friday.

CIN - QB Andy Dalton does some drills

    Source: ESPN.com - Coley Harvey

Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton (thumb) went through some conditioning drills on the side during practice Wednesday, Dec. 30, for the first time since his injury. He is still using a black cast around his right hand.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dalton may return at some point in the playoffs. He may not return for Wild Card Weekend, so the Bengals need to find a way to climb back into one of the top two seeds in the AFC. They are currently third in the conference behind the Patriots and the Broncos.

CAR - WR Ted Ginn sits out

    Source: Panthers.com

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers WR Ted Ginn Jr. (knee) officially was listed as did not practice Wednesday, Dec. 30.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Panthers have not locked up the first-overall seed, so they'll be unlikely to rest their starters in the regular-season finale (at home). Ginn is a WR3 with WR1 upside if he plays.

CHI - RB Matt Forte limited Wednesday

    Source: ESPNChicago.com - Jeff Dickerson

Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte (back) was limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 30.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's Week 17, so the Bears could just turn to Jeremy Langford and Ka'Deem Carey in the season finale.

CAR - RB Jonathan Stewart sits Wednesday

Source: Charlotte Observer - Jonathan Jones

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (foot) is out of practice Wednesday, Dec. 30.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There's a chance that Stewart plays this week against the Bucs. The Panthers have a first-round bye, so perhaps the team wants to get him a few reps to knock off the rust before they enter the postseason. Monitor his practice status during the week.

    Friday Update:

CIN - AJ McCarron, TE Tyler Eifert have full practice

    Source: Bengals.com

Cincinnati Bengals QB AJ McCarron (wrist) and TE Tyler Eifert (concussion) were full participants in practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCarron is a solid QB2 against a battered Baltimore defense and Eifert should put up solid TE1/TE2 numbers with playoff seeding on the line.

ATL - QB Matt Ryan has full practice

    Source: AtlantaFalcons.com

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan (hip) fully participated in practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ryan has been a fantasy disaster this year, and will end things as a QB2 against a New Orleans defense which normally makes heroes of zeroes. Hope for the upside, depend on the lower production.

WAS - QB Kirk Cousins starting

    Source: Redskins.com

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins will start in Week 17 against the Dallas Cowboys, according to head coach Jay Gruden, despite the Redskins having nothing to play for. Cousins' snap count is still to be determined.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

How long will he play? Hard to say, but we don't think it will be long enough to start in fantasy. Consider him a QB4 and avoid him this week.

NYJ - QB Ryan Fitzpatrick participating

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb, elbow, back) is practicing fully Thursday, Dec. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fitzpatrick has been on a tear lately and we think he's going to have a big day. Start him as a QB1 and feel confident he will produce.

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy (knee) is out of practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Karlos Williams and Mike Gillislee will split carries against a tough Jets run defense. Williams is the better play as Gillislee isn't consistent.

CLE - QB Johnny Manziel ruled out

    Source: ESPN.com - Pat McManamon

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel (concussion) has officially been ruled out for the season finale in Week 17 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to head coach Mike Pettine. Manziel is in the league's concussion protocol. QB Austin Davis will start with QB Pat Devlin as the backup.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're not sure we buy this magic concussion and wonder if the team is balking throwing him out there after that video earlier this week. Austin Davis is getting the start and will be a QB3. Manziel's future with the team is shaky at this point.

MIA - WR Rishard Matthews, WR Kenny Stills limited

Miami Dolphins WRs Rishard Matthews (ribs) and Kenny Stills (thigh) were limited during practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

    Source: NFL

Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry (knee) was limited during practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

NE - Top three WRs limited for Patriots

    Source: NFL

New England Patriots WRs Danny Amendola (knee), Julian Edelman (foot) and Brandon LaFell (foot) were limited during practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We don't think Amendola or Edelman will play. LaFell will be a solid WR2/WR3 and Keshawn Martin should put up WR4 numbers.

HOU - RB Alfred Blue, RB Chris Polk practice

    Source: NFL

Houston Texans RB Alfred Blue (calf) and RB Chris Polk (knee) fully participated in practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Blue is the guy to start, but is only an RB3 though we've no idea how much they'll really have him carry. Polk is an RB5 at best. The two will split carries as well.

HOU - QB Brian Hoyer practices Thursday

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer (concussion, ankle) fully participated in practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

Denver Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders (ankle) fully participated in practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sanders has scored a touchdown in each of the last two games. We project him to have a strong chance of doing so again, but he's still a WR3.

Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas (hamstring) was limited during practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thomas has been hit or miss this season, and even against a banged up San Diego team we are only projecting WR2/WR3 numbers.

JAX - WR Allen Hurns limited at practice

    Source: Jaguars.com

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Hurns (thigh) was limited during practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Houston isn't easy on passing offenses but Hurns has been solid this year and is coming off a huge game. We see him as a solid WR2 play this weekend.

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Robinson (shoulder) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Houston is a tough defensive matchup for the Jacksonville passing offense, but Robinson is a quality receiver and we expect WR1 numbers this week.

WAS - RB Matt Jones doesn't practice

    Source: DallasCowboys.com

Washington Redskins RB Matt Jones (hip) did not practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We don't think you'll see Jones this weekend. Alfred Morris will get the start and has a chance at solid numbers, but they won't run him into the ground with the Divisional Round of the Playoffs looming.

WAS - WR DeSean Jackson limited Thursday

    Source: Redskins.com

Washington Redskins WR DeSean Jackson (knee) was limited in practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Like much of the Washington offense, there's no reason for Jackson to get a ton of snaps and risk injury. He's a WR5 this week and risky even there. Washington needs healthy players, and a win does nothing for them so why risk injury?

GB - RB Eddie Lacy limited

    Source: Packers.com

Green Bay Packers RB Eddie Lacy (rib) was limited during practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

As is the case with all the parts of Green Bay's offense, Lacy has been underwhelming much of the year. He's no better than an RB3 against Minnesota.

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten (chest) participated fully in practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

Cincinnati Bengals WR Marvin Jones (hamstring) was limited in practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

ATL - RB Devonta Freeman, WR Roddy White limited

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (knee) and WR Roddy White (ankle) were limited in practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

In the "Who Really Cares Bowl" (we really do think there are too many bowl games), Freeman should get plenty of run and provide RB1 numbers but White has no fantasy value at all.

IND - Chuck Pagano expected to be fired

Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano is not expected to be retained for the 2016 season barring a playoff berth.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Always great to find this BEFORE the last game. Does wonders for morale. With Andrew Luck the centerpiece of the offense, this should be a sought after job, though some of owner Jim Irsay's actions and Luck's issues have dulled the shine a tad.

IND - WR T.Y. Hilton limited again

Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton (calf) was a limited participant in practice for the second straight day Thursday, Dec. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With the state of the quarterbacks and his injury, Hilton has major league questions surrounding him.

IND - QB Matt Hasselbeck, WR Donte Moncrief miss practice

    Source: Colts.com

Indianapolis Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck (shoulder, ribs, back) and WR Donte Moncrief (toe) both missed practice for the second straight day Thursday, Dec. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hasselbeck doesn't looke like he'll play and the other options...well our New Years Resolution includes one to say nothing if we have nothing nice to say, so just stay away. And Moncrief has been far from reliable.

NYJ - Limited practice for RB Chris Ivory

    Source: NewYorkJets.com

New York Jets RB Chris Ivory (knee) put in a limited practice Thursday, Dec. 31, after sitting out Wednesday, Dec. 30.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We think Ivory will be a decent RB2 start this week, though he has been banged up enough to think if the Jets get a big enough lead he'll be sat so he is ready for Wild Card weekend.

NYJ - WR Eric Decker, WR Brandon Marshall practice

    Source: NewYorkJets.com

New York Jets WRs Eric Decker (knee) and Brandon Marshall (ankle) practiced in full for the second straight day Thursday, Dec. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Jets passing offense is very productive and both are must-start options this week, with Marshall as a WR1 and Decker a high-end WR2.

BUF - QB Tyrod Taylor limited again

    Source: BuffaloBills.com

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor (shoulder) was limited in practice for the second straight day Thursday, Dec. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Taylor has a tough game ahead of him against one of the better defenses in the NFL. We could see him as a solid QB2, but there is risk given how the offense has looked and the injuries in it.

CHI - WR Alshon Jeffery may not return

    Source: ESPNChicago.com - Jeff Dickerson

Chicago Bears impending free-agent WR Alshon Jeffery may not return in 2016 as the team is unlikely to get involved in a bidding war for him, in the opinion of beat writer Jeff Dickerson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

So the Bears are praying Kevin White can be healthy and perform well and that they can continue to add talent at wide receiver. Health is a concern for Jeffery, but if he's gone in addition to Brandon Marshall last offseason we have to wonder what the future holds for a virtually weaponless Jay Cutler.

CHI - TE Zach Miller, WR Eddie Royal miss practice

    Source: NFL.com - Tyler Dragon

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (toe) and WR Eddie Royal (illness) both missed practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Miller has some potential and if he plays could be a solid TE1. Royal is barely worth a roster spot, and is no more than a WR5.

CHI - RB Matt Forte limited Thursday

Source: Chicago Tribune - Rich Campbell

Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte (back) was limited in practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Forte should be able to go, though he'll split carries with Jeremy Langford. With Forte's back hurting, we think Langford will get more of the carries.

NYJ - RB Bilal Powell sits Thursday

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (ankle) is out of practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We think this is just a rest day and expect Powell will be a solid Rb2 this weekend. Powell has been a huge factor for the Jets the last few weeks and is highly productive both on the ground and through the air. Both he and Ivory could be solid Rb2 plays, in fact, against a reeling Bills team with an under-performing defense.

DET - WR Calvin Johnson practices

    Source: DetroitLions.com - Tim Twentyman

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) returned to practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It hasn't been a great season for Johnson either in real life or fantasy. He's slipped down to WR2 status these days and we are hoping it's not a permanent status change.

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (foot) is out of practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're pretty sure we won't see Stewart until the post-season. Cameron Artis-Payne is likely to get the start and most of the carries. Stewart will be a solid player when he returns and the Panthers need him healthy.

    Saturday Update:

STL - RB Todd Gurley doubtful for Week 17

    Source: StLouisRams.com

Updating a previous report, St. Louis Rams RB Todd Gurley (foot) did not practice Friday, Jan. 1, and is listed as doubtful for the Week 17 game against the San Francisco 49ers.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's a shame Gurley's triumphant rookie year will end this way, but the best is clearly yet to come for the true workhorse back.

CAR - RB Jonathan Stewart, RB Fozzy Whittaker out

    Source: Panthers.com

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (foot) and RB Fozzy Whittaker (ankle) did not participate in practice Friday, Jan. 1, and have been ruled out for the Week 17 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cameron Artis-Payne and Mike Tolbert will divide the work against the stiff Bucs runs defense and neither is a particularly strong play, although the Panthers need to win.

BUF - RB LeSean McCoy out for Week 17

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (concussion) practiced fully Friday, Jan. 1, and he's probable for Week 17.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Eifert is a strong TE1 even though he might not play the whole game because the Bengals likely have nothing to gain as the probable third seed in the AFC.

Denard Robinson and Jonas Gray will split the work and it sounds like Gray can get the better part of it if he looks good.

OAK - WR Amari Cooper should play

    Source: NFL

Oakland Raiders WR Amari Cooper (foot) fully participate in practice Friday, Jan. 1, and is listed as probable for the Week 17 game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cooper is a risky WR3/Flex play even though he is probable because in recent weeks it has been clear he is not 100%.

NO - WR Marques Colston will not play

    Source: NFL

New Orleans Saints WR Marques Colston (chest) did not participate in practice Friday, Jan. 1, and has been ruled out for the Week 17 game against the Atlanta Falcons.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brandon Coleman could be in the bullseye more often with Colston out and Ben Watson not 100%.

NE - Friday injury report for Week 17

    Source: NFL

New England Patriots CB Justin Coleman (concussion), LB Jonathan Freeny (hand), LB Dont'a Hightower (knee), DE Chandler Jones (abdomen, toe) and OT Sebastian Vollmer (ankle) have been ruled out for the Week 17 game against the Miami Dolphins. SS Patrick Chung (foot), OG Josh Kline (shoulder), FS Devin McCourty (ankle), DE Rob Ninkovich (shin), DT Sealver Siliga (non-injury) and OT LaAdrian Waddle (shoulder) are listed as questionable. Chung, Kline, McCourty and Waddle were limited during practice, while the other players did not participate in practice.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Patriots still need a win to secure home field throughout the playoffs, but they also need to get healthy, especially on the defensive side of the ball. They'll get some key players two consecutive weeks off if they rest them this week.

IND - WR T.Y. Hilton probable for Week 17

    Source: Colts.com

Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton (calf) fully practiced Friday, Jan. 1, and is probable for the Week 17 game against the Tennessee Titans.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hilton is a still not an advisable play because he'll be receiving passes from a quarterback who was on the street last week no matter who starts for the Colts on Sunday.

WAS - WR DeSean Jackson questionable for Week 17

    Source: DallasCowboys.com

Washington Redskins WR DeSean Jackson (knee) was limited during practice Friday, Jan. 1, and is listed as questionable for the Week 17 game against the Dallas Cowboys.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jackson is already banged up and Washington has nothing to gain, so he's not worth a start this week.

WAS - RB Matt Jones doubtful for Week 17

    Source: DallasCowboys.com

Washington Redskins RB Matt Jones (hip) did not practice Friday, Jan. 1, and is listed as doubtful for the Week 17 game against the Dallas Cowboys.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Alfred Morris should get a lot of work while Washington is still playing the first string, but he could see less than a half of action, so he's a risky play.

CLE - WR Travis Benjamin questionable for Week 17

    Source: ClevelandBrowns.com

Cleveland Browns WR Travis Benjamin (ankle) was limited during practice Friday, Jan. 1, and he is listed as questionable for the Week 17 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Benjamin has been fizzling out lately, and his outlook might be diminished with Austin Davis, although the Steelers secondary is subject to big lapses.

DET - WR Calvin Johnson questionable

    Source: NFL

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) did not participate in practice Friday, Jan. 1, and is listed as questionable for the Week 17 game against the Chicago Bears.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson bounced back last week, but he is still going to be a risky Week 17 play. His upside against the Bears still makes him a WR2 at worst.

DEN - RB C.J. Anderson should be in uniform

    Source: DenverBroncos.com

Denver Broncos RB C.J. Anderson (back) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 1, and is listed as probable for the Week 17 game against the San Diego Chargers.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Anderson has a high ceiling in a game the Broncos should control, but we also know his floor. Consider him a boom/bust RB2 for Week 17 Super Bowls.

    SD - Stevie Johnson questionable

    Source: Chargers.com

San Diego Chargers WR Stevie Johnson (groin) was limited during practice Friday, Jan. 1, and is listed as questionable for the Week 17 game against the Denver Broncos.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson is a terrible play this week between the matchup against the Broncos and his precarious condition.

GB - RB Eddie Lacy probable for Week 17

    Source: Vikings.com

Green Bay Packers RB Eddie Lacy (rib) is listed as probable for the Week 17 game against the Minnesota Vikings. Green Bay did not practice Friday, Jan. 1, but Lacy's practice involvement was estimated as limited.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Both Lacy and James Starks are very shaky plays against the Vikings in an offense that has stalled at times lately.

CHI - TE Zach Miller questionable for Week 17

    Source: ChicagoBears.com

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (toe) did not practice Friday, Jan. 1, and is listed as questionable for the Week 17 game against the Detroit Lions.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Miller was poised for a big week with Alshon Jeffery out, but it sounds like he is a shaky play. He is poised to take over the starting tight end job.

CAR - WR Ted Ginn not expected to play

    Source: Panthers.com

Carolina Panthers WR Ted Ginn Jr. (knee) did not participate in practice Friday, Jan. 1, and is listed as doubtful for the Week 17 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jerricho Cotchery, Corey Brown, and Devin Funchess will get more targets and snaps and make better what the heck flexes against the sometimes rough Tampa pass defense.

PIT - QB Ben Roethlisberger should play

    Source: Steelers.com

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (illness) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 1, and is listed as probable for the Week 17 game against the Cleveland Browns.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Roethlisberger should still be considered an elite QB1 start this week despite his failings on the road in a similarly good matchup next week.

ATL - RB Devonta Freeman probable for Week 17

    Source: AtlantaFalcons.com

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (knee) was limited in practice Friday, Jan. 1, and is listed as probable for the Week 17 game against the New Orleans Saints.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Falcons 2015 probably won't be judged a success, but that's not because of Freeman. He was the engine of a running game that faded as the year went on and had any minimal help from the line and passing game.

NYJ - RB Bilal Powell questionable

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (ankle) didn't practice Friday, Jan. 1, and is questionable for Week 17.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We don't expect Powell to play against the Bills, which could limit the offense a bit. Kendrell Thompkins might be asked to do more as the third receiver in a top-heavy pass offense. Chris Ivory becomes a better start if Powell is out.

JAX - RB Jonas Gray excited for opportunity

    Source: Jaguars.com - John Oehser

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Jonas Gray said he is excited for an expanded role in the offense against the Houston Texans in Week 17. 'Every time you get an opportunity to go out and compete, it's a big deal,' Gray said. 'People are depending on you to do your job, so that's a big deal, too, but I'm excited for it.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gray has flirted with big opportunity and had a huge game in New England, but couldn't get a foothold in Miami once Jay Ajayi was healthy. He's clearly a competent inside runner and showed better burst in the preseason.

    STL - Malcolm Brown promoted

    Source: ESPN.com - Nick Wagoner

St. Louis Rams RB Malcolm Brown was promoted from the practice squad to the active roster Thursday, Dec. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brown flashed this preseason and he's a hard charging low center of gravity runner who fits right in the Rams style of running game. He could flash against the 49ers too, putting him on the radar in deep dynasty leagues.

SF - WR Torrey Smith limited at practice

    Source: ESPN.com - Paul Gutierrez

San Francisco 49ers WR Torrey Smith (foot, back) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

At best, Smith is a solid WR8, for what that is worth. The Rams have a decent defense and the Niners are still a mess offensively. Avoid them again this last week.

you're kind of hard on someone with 2 TDs and 11 INTs for his career and filled in admirably for Carson Palmer last year.

    Sunday Update:

STL - RB Todd Gurley not expected to play

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

St. Louis Rams RB Todd Gurley (foot) is not expected to play in the Week 17 game against the San Francisco 49ers. Gurley is listed as doubtful for the game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's too bad that we're not going to see Gurley one more time in 2015. He's an amazing talent who looks like he'll be the next superstar back in the NFL. Gurley finishes his rookie season with 1,108 yards rushing, 10 rushing touchdowns, and 188 yards receiving. While many things could change with the Rams this offseason, having Gurley as the centerpiece of the offense should not.

MIA - Interested in Adam Gase

    Source: FOXSports.com - Alex Marvez

Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase has drawn interest from the Miami Dolphins regarding their head coaching vacancy, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gase is going to attract a lot of interest (finally) as a head coach. He was able to get career-best numbers out of Peyton Manning in 2013, and Gase helped Jay Cutler re-establish himself in 2015. The Dolphins could use his help in getting QB Ryan Tannehill to the next level. Each team with an opening should be interviewing Gase.

SEA - RB Marshawn Lynch expected back soon

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch (abdomen) is expected to participate in practice Monday, Jan. 4, according to head coach Pete Carroll.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Right in time for the postseason. The Seahawks are going to be a dangerous team in the playoffs, and they'll be even better with Lynch running the rock.

CIN - QB Andy Dalton to see specialist

    Source: ESPN.com - Coley Harvey

Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton (thumb) will see a hand specialist Monday, Jan. 4, and he is hoping to have the cast around his right thumb removed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bengals need some unlikely events to land a first-round bye and avoid an AJ McCarron start in a playoff game. McCarron has been better than expected, so all is not lost for Cincinnati.

SF - RB Mike Davis activated
Source: San Jose Mercury News - Cam Inman
Updating an earlier report, San Francisco 49ers RB Mike Davis (hand) was activated from short-term Injured Reserve Saturday, Jan. 2.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Davis has been sidelined since Week 8, but he's made it back for the regular season finale. He'll split time with DuJuan Harris and Kendall Gaskins in the 49ers backfield. We'd like to see Davis get most of the work because of his intriguing upside in dynasty leagues.

MIA - WR Rishard Matthews going to IR

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins WR Rishard Matthews (ribs) is heading to the Reserve/Injured list Saturday, Jan. 2.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Matthews originally wanted out of Miami before his contract year of 2015. Instead of getting traded or cut, Matthews stayed and put up a respectable 43 catches for 663 yards and four touchdowns. He's unlikely to return to the Dolphins in 2016, but there's some team out there who should be happy to add a player on the rise.

PHI - RB Duce Staley interviewing

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Philadelphia Eagles running backs coach Duce Staley is interviewing for Philadelphia's head coaching job, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Staley has been the running backs coach with the team since 2013, and he's been on the staff since 2011. It would be a nice turn of events for RB DeMarco Murray if Chip Kelly (who he didn't get along with) was replaced by his running backs coach. This search has just gotten started, but Staley is in the mix.

TB - RB Doug Martin has extension talks

Source: The Tampa Tribune - Roy Cummings

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin has recently had contract extension talks with the team, according to general manager Jason Licht.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

What a turnaround for Martin. After a tremendous and highly-productive rookie season, Martin had two years where he was set back by injuries and inconsistency. Now, it looks like he may be sticking around in Tampa for the foreseeable future. The two sides are only in the early stages at this point, but Martin has indicated that he is interested in returning to the team.

ARI - WR Michael Floyd has good chance to play

    Source: ESPN.com - Josh Weinfuss

Arizona Cardinals WR Michael Floyd (knee) has a very good chance to play in the Week 17 game against the Seattle Seahawks even though he is listed as questionable, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The last time these two teams played (Week 10), Floyd had seven catches for 113 yards and two touchdowns. DFS owners should consider Floyd and option, and season-long fantasy players in their championship in Week 17 should look at Floyd as a high-end WR2.

MIA - TE Jordan Cameron likely will be cut

    Source: Sun-Sentinel - Omar Kelly

Miami Dolphins TE Jordan Cameron probably will be released this offseason because he is scheduled to make $7.5 million in 2016, but there is a chance the team tries to re-sign him at a lower price.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Zero surprise here. Cameron has had a disappointing 2015 season, catching 33 passes for 380 yards and two touchdowns. Lots of changes are coming (again) for the Dolphins, and we'd be shocked if Cameron stuck around for his current price tag.

JAX - No surgery for RB T.J. Yeldon

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike DiRocco

Jacksonville Jaguars RB T.J. Yeldon (knee) will not need to undergo surgery to repair the sprained medial collateral ligament he suffered during the team's Week 14 game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for the rookie here. He flashed solid ability this year for the Jaguars, and he's clearly their lead back of the future. Yeldon finishes his rookie season with 740 yards rushing, two rushing touchdowns, 279 yards receiving and one receiving touchdown. Going into next season, we'd project a healthy Yeldon as a RB2 with upside for fantasy owners.

IND - RB Frank Gore has chance at 1,000 yards

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Wells

Indianapolis Colts RB Frank Gore needs 109 yards in the Week 17 game against the Tennessee Titans to become the first Colts running back since 2007 to record 1,000 yards in a season. Gore's season high in rushing yards is 98 yards.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There may not be much to like about the Colts this week, but we think they'll pound the rock time and time again with Gore in Week 17. DFS players need to consider Gore as a cheaper RB option. Season-long owners can look to Gore as a RB1 in Week 17 championships.

PIT - WR Martavis Bryant should play

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant (illness) is expected to play in the Week 17 game against the Cleveland Browns even though he is listed as questionable for the game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This illness does put a damper on fantasy owners, but realize that Bryant is capable of exploding for a huge day any time he's on the field. We like him as a low-end WR2 with upside in Week 17.
