NFL Player News - Week of June 1st

    Courtesy of Footballguys.com

CLE - QB Josh McCown likes his situation
    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra
Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown said the lack of quarterback competition helps the team overall. 'More than anything, for me, I just believe it takes away from any kind of distraction that you can have and the team can just move in one direction, regardless of who that guy is,'' McCown said. 'It's helpful to just say, 'this is our guy until something happens and he's not our guy.''
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
McCown is pretty much locked in as the starter right now, but we'll see if Johnny Manziel can change that during training camp and preseason. The seasoned veteran will be running what likely will be a run-heavy offense for the Browns. We're not expecting anyone from the Browns' passing game to be much of a fantasy factor in 2015.

DET - RB Joique Bell not taking role for granted
    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra
Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell said he is not assuming he is going to be the starting back in 2015. 'I don't plan out the roles,' Bell said during OTAs. 'I go out to do what the team needs.'
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Fantasy owners can make that assumption right now. However, Bell will be challenged by rookie Ameer Abdullah (Lions). At this time, Bell is coming off the board at RB21 (4.12) in 12-team PPR leagues. Abdullah is getting drafted at RB41 (9.04) in those leagues. Bell should begin the season as the starter, but Abdullah might finish the season as the top back for the Lions. Stay tuned.

BAL - Gillmore the starting tight end?
    Source: Jamison Hensley - ESPN.com
Jamison Hensley, from ESPN.com, makes an educated guess that second-year pro Crockett Gillmore will be the Baltimore Ravens starting tight end to begin the regular season.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Gillmore is going to compete with rookie tight end Maxx Williams for the starting job. The second-round pick reminds us of a young Jason Witten (Cowboys) because of his soft hands and run-after-the-catch ability. Gillmore is a decent all-purpose tight end, but he's nowhere near the athlete that Williams is. We'll see these two battle it out in training camp.

BUF - QB EJ Manuel adds weight
Source: The Buffalo News - Vic Carucci
Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel said he added around 10 pounds of muscle this offseason in the hopes of staying healthy during the regular season. Manuel said he believes he still has his quickness and the ability to move around.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Adding weight may not be the answer for Manuel staying healthy. He needs to learn when to slide after he crosses the line of scrimmage as a runner. We like that Manuel wants to fight for extra yards, but he needs to be safer when he scrambles.

CAR - Extra snaps for WR Devin Funchess
    Source: Panthers.com - Bryan Strickland
Carolina Panthers WR Devin Funchess has been seeing extra snaps while WR Kelvin Benjamin (hamstring) is sidelined, and head coach Ron Rivera said the extra work for Funchess has been an unintended plus.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Funchess is a big target like Benjamin, and the Panthers are hopeful the rookie can develop into a quality starter. He's got the ability to be a factor in the red zone, but Funchess needs to catch passes with more consistency. Funchess too often lets passes into his body and fights passes that should be easy to snare.

STL - A return for Quick in Week 1 is realistic
    Source: Nick Wagoneer - ESPN.com
Nick Wagoneer, from ESPN.com, reports that a return of St. Louis Rams wide receiver Brian Quick in Week 1 of the regular season is a realistic possibility.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Quick suffered a torn rotator cuff and separated shoulder last October. This injury is projected to keep him out of most, if not all, of the team's OTAs. We'll know more about his recovery when the team starts training camp later this year.

MIA - Improved Red Zone offense this year?
    Source: James Walker - ESPN.com
James Walker, from ESPN.com, reports the Dolphins have worked hard this offseason to improve their red-zone offense. Last year, Miami only scored on 51.5 percent of their trips into the red zone. That rate ranked 21 of 32 in the NFL, so the Dolphins went out of their way to add big targets like tight end Jordan Cameron (6'5") and rookie wide receiver DeVante Parker (6'3").
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The targets added (and subracted, Mike Wallace) should greatly help quarterback Ryan Tannehill. The Dolphins will still use Lamar Miller to pick up the tough yards on the ground, but they could try to connect on some jump passes when they get close to pay dirt. A more efficient red-zone offense will boost Tannehill's fantasy numbers....and consistency. Add Tannehill as a QB2 (current ADP of QB13, 9.10) with QB1 upside.

CLE - QB Johnny Manziel Incident
Source: Mark Kay Cabot - Cleveland Plain Dealer
Mary Kay Cabot, from the Cleveland Plain Dealer, reports Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel was harassed by a fan at the Byron Nelson Classic on Saturday, but he handled it appropriately, his agent Erik Burkhardt told Northeast Ohio Media Group.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Apparently, Manziel was getting harassed by an 18-year old "fan" and allegedly the Browns quarterback threw a water bottle at the kid. There was no sign of alcohol according to some reports. Manziel has been staying out of trouble this offseason after getting released from rehab earlier this year. We have a feeling that nothing will come of this.

BUF - BUF not interested in RB Ray Rice
    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Rodak
Free-agent RB Ray Rice (Ravens) is not a player the Buffalo Bills are interested in signing, according to a source.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
BREAKING: the team with one of the best running backs in the league (LeSean McCoy) and incredible depth at the position (Fred Jackson, Bryce Brown, Karlos Williams, Anthony Dixon) are unlikely to have interest in a back who is no longer what he used to be and didn't play football last year. It would be truly shocking if a team with a stacked depth chart at running back like the Bills would have interest in Rice.

    Tuesday Update

CAR - QB Cam Newton nearing new deal

    Source: ESPN 730 Charlotte
Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton is close to a contract extension that will run through the 2020 season, according to sources. The deal could be done in the next day or two.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Newton should get an extension with more guaranteed money than the $95 million deal Ryan Tannehill just signed with the Dolphins. After taking him with the first-overall pick in 2011, Newton has led the Panthers to the NFC South division title twice in the last four years. They're not going to let him get away.

MIN - Mike Zimmer, RB Adrian Peterson speak
    Source: ESPN.com - Ben Goessling
Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer and RB Adrian Peterson have apparently cleared the air of their differences. Although Peterson still has reservations about returning to the Vikings, his relationship with Zimmer is strong.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Vikings hold all the cards here with Peterson. He would like some guaranteed money over the next three seasons as Minnesota has him locked up for that period of time at a hefty (non-guaranteed) price. We'll see if the Vikings play nice and give him what he wants so Peterson will show up and play. This isn't a huge deal unless Peterson starts missing time in training camp.

IND - WR Andre Johnson loving QB Andrew Luck

    Source: NFL.com - Chris Wesseling

Indianapolis Colts WR Andre Johnson said he has regained his passion for the game because of the opportunity to play with QB Andrew Luck, and he called Luck 'smart as hell.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
It's easy to see why Johnson got frustrated in Houston catching passes from below-average quarterbacks. With the Colts, Johnson has a chance to win a Super Bowl. He'll be a big part of their high-powered passing offense in 2015. His current ADP is WR17 (4.03) in 12-team PPR leagues.

ARI - Arizona using more no-huddle offense

    Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (knee) may be throwing more out of the no-huddle offense in 2015. The Cardinals worked on the no-huddle offense Monday, June 1, and head coach Bruce Arians said he believes they'll use that type of offense more this season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Cardinals are going to have an effective offense so long as quarterback Carson Palmer can stay healthy. Palmer continues to recover from the torn ACL that cut his season short last year. He has not been able to practice the no-huddle offense as Palmer has yet to take part in 11-on-11 drills.

WAS - TE Jordan Reed has knee surgery

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (knee) underwent a minor knee operation recently, but he will be ready for training camp.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Reed likely had a knee scope here. Yes, the procedure is minor but it's still a concern for a player who missed 12 games over the last two years. Reed will compete with frontrunner Niles Paul for Washington's starting tight end job.

SF - RB Reggie Bush likes the offense

    Source:

San Francisco 49ers RB Reggie Bush said he has been used in a variety of ways on offense, and he added that he likes what he has seen out of offensive coordinator Geep Chryst.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It will be interesting to see how the 49ers look this season after a somewhat tumultuous offseason. Bush is going to play as a change-of-pace back behind Carlos Hyde now that Frank Gore is with the Colts. Hyde will be the banger between the tackles, while Bush is going to be the back used in space. We could see the 49ers also put him in the slot as a receiver from time to time. Bush has a current ADP of RB39 (8.10) in 12-team PPR leagues.

ATL - Atlanta has competition at running back

    Source: AtlantaFalcons.com - Andrew Hirsh

Atlanta Falcons RBs Tevin Coleman and Devonta Freeman will fight for the starting running back position this offseason, as head coach Dan Quinn said they are both battling for it. Quinn added that it's currently difficult to predict how the situation will play out. Freeman is expected to be the No. 1 running back at least until Coleman acclimates to the Falcons and the professional level.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This will be an important battle for fantasy owners to monitor. The Kyle Shanahan system can produce valuable starting running backs. Freeman has one year of experience and runs with a lower center of gravity. Coleman is the talented rookie with home-run speed and the ability to get stronger as the game goes on. We think Coleman eventually emerges, but how soon will depend on how Freeman looks.

JAX - RB T.J. Yeldon financials

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Aaron Wilson

Updating a previous report, Jacksonville Jaguars RB T.J. Yeldon's four-year rookie deal is worth $5.91 million with $3.69 million guaranteed. It comes with a $2.56 signing bonus.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Yeldon should be the lead back for the Jaguars as they want to be a more run-heavy offense in 2015. He'll provide the power while Denard Robinson provides the speed as a change-of-pace back. Yeldon's current ADP is RB28 (6.03) in 12-team PPR leagues.

IND - OLB Robert Mathis to be ready for training camp?

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Wells

Indianapolis Colts DE Robert Mathis (Achilles') plans to be ready for the start of training camp Aug. 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Getting him back on the field to rush the passer will greatly help the Colts defense. Mathis is not currently participating in organized team activities as he continues to recover from a torn Achilles', but he is training with the medical staff.

BAL - TE Dennis Pitta moving well
    Source: CSNBaltimore.com - Clifton Brown
Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) caught balls on the sidelines and was moving well in organized team activities last week. He was limited to individual work.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Pitta is fighting back from this hip injury that could end up being career ending. The Ravens are hopeful Pitta can return, but they're not counting on it. That's why they drafted Maxx Williams (Minnesota) this year in the second round. Williams is going to compete with second-year pro Crockett Gillmore to be the team's leading tight end.

    Wednesday Update

MIN - RB Adrian Peterson ready to move on

Source: NFL Network - Albert Breer

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson said he's learned from his mistakes and is ready to move forward following an extended absence. Peterson said he's focused on what's in front him and wanted to get back to the team.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Vikings are (of course) going to make Peterson the centerpiece of the offense. Norv Turner known how to create an incredibly productive rushing attack, and Peterson will be leading the way for many fantasy owners. He's a top-5 fantasy back and should be off the board in the first half of the first round in most every league.

OAK - QB Derek Carr throws passes

    Source: ESPN.com - Bill Williamson

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (finger) threw a few passes during organized team activities Tuesday, June 2, as he continues to recover from an injury on the ring finger of his throwing hand. The injury is not considered serious. There is no timetable for when Carr will really start throwing or how long the recovery will take.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Without a timetable makes things a bit difficult to prognosticate. We feel Carr should be ready by the start of training camp because this injury is considered minor. We'll see if anything changes that outlook between now and then.

TEN - QB Marcus Mariota throwing well in OTAs

    Source: ESPN.com - Paul Kuharsky

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota has impressed during organized team activities, especially with throwing on the run. Quarterbacks coach John McNulty said Mariota is able to throw well while running because of his easy, natural athleticism. McNulty cited Mariota's footwork, fluidity and quick release as attributes that help him throw well on the move.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mariota is an incredibly gifted athlete, but his ability as a passer at the pro level is an unknown at this time. It's good to hear that he's looking good in OTAs, and we'll see if he can carry that over into training camp and the preseason. The Titans have crafted an offense around Mariota, and they have some quality weapons in the passing game. We're interested to see how the rookie adjusts to playing in the NFL.

SEA - QB Russell Wilson would play without deal

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson said he's ready to play the 2015 season without a new contract. Wilson desires to stay in Seattle long-term and talks for a new deal have supposedly been positive.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wilson has a cap hit in 2015 of a measly (by QB standards) $1.6 million. The Seahawks have been able to build such a strong team because they're not paying their quarterback that much....but that will change soon enough. With Cam Newton signing a deal today with an average annual salary of around $20 million, expect Wilson's deal to best that.

PHI - QB Sam Bradford improving at OTAs

Source: NFL Network - Albert Breer

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford (knee) is participating in competitive drills as he and QB Mark Sanchez share first-team repetitions during organized team activities Tuesday, June 2. Bradford is rehabilitating from a torn anterior cruciate ligament he suffered last season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is good news for Bradford, but it still doesn't give us any clues about whether or not he'll be ready for Week 1 of the regular season. Bradford has an injury history that reads like Infinite Jest, so even if he's healthy enough to start it would be nearly miraculous if he stayed healthy for the entire season. We're expecting Sanchez to get some starts this year.

BUF - RB LeSean McCoy at 300 carries?

Source: WGR Sports Radio 550 - Sal Capaccio

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy is expected to receive 300 carries this season, according to teammate RB Fred Jackson. 'I don't know exactly what my role is going to be, Jackson said. 'They say that they want Shady (McCoy) to get 300-plus carries next year. So that's a guy you're feeding the ball all the time. So I'll be ready when my number is called.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
That sounds about right. McCoy is going to be the bellcow back on one of the most run-heavy teams in the league. He's had over 300 carries each of the last two seasons, and he's rushed for almost 3,000 yards combined during that time. McCoy can handle this workload, and he'll be the centerpiece of the Bills offense.

JAX - RB T.J. Yeldon expected to start

    Source: Jaguars.com - John Oehser

Jacksonville Jaguars RB T.J. Yeldon is expected to be the starting running back as a rookie in 2015. Yeldon has impressed early in organized team activities and shown versatility as a runner and receiver.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Yeldon is a hard-charging back who runs with build-up power. He's more nifty in the open field than some would think a back his size could be. Yeldon can easily be the banger for this team with Denard Robinson working as the change-of-pace back. The Jaguars want to run the ball more to help settle down young QB Blake Bortles.

TB - RB Doug Martin looking, feeling good in OTAs

    Source: PewterReport.com - Zach Shapiro

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin said he feels great, his body feels good and his mind is where it needs to be as he participates in organized team activities. Martin has supposedly looked like his old self so far, making sharp cuts and catching the ball out of the backfield in one-on-one drills.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Martin is in a bit of a make-or-break season for the Bucs. Early reports seem to indicate the team is going to feature Charles Sims at running back and relegate Martin to a backup role. We'll see how this battle plays out in training camp. Just based on natural skill set, Martin is the superior player in our eyes--if he's back to full strength and looking like his old self.

WAS - Robert Griffin's option was obvious choice

Source: The Washington Post - Liz Clarke

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III's fifth-year option being picked up was the obvious decision, according to team president Bruce Allen. 'We know his talent. It really was a no-brainer,' Allen said. 'I think if you asked us six months before it would have been the same decision.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Griffin's option of $16.1 million is only guaranteed if he suffers an injury this year that bleeds into 2016. He's in a make-or-break season this year, and he may not have much time to prove himself. If Griffin doesn't look good as the starter, the team has incentive (not getting him hurt to lock in that 2016 money) to get him off the field. We'll see if he can stay healthy and start to become the quarterback we all thought he could be after his rookie season in 2012.

NE - WR Wes Welker open to Pats return

    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

Free-agent WR Wes Welker (Broncos) said he would be open to returning to the New England Patriots.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Tom Brady would love that, but Welker is not the same player he used to be. The Patriots already seem set with guys like Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola. Concussion problems slowed Welker down during his time with the Broncos, and the interest in him on the open market has been minimal at best.

DEN - RB C.J. Anderson svelte at OTAs

Source: The Denver Post - Troy E. Renck

Denver Broncos RB C.J. Anderson modified his diet, ran hills and tracks in Colorado and California to check in at 221 pounds for the start of organized team activities (OTAs), down 22 pounds from this point last season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Anderson played last year around 220 pounds. He led the league in rushing over the final six weeks of the season, and he's at the top of the depth chart now for the Broncos. Anderson will face competition from Montee Ball in training camp, but he has the potential to finish the season as a top-5 fantasy back because of his power, nose for the end zone and receiving ability.

SD - Stevie Johnson impressing at OTAS

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Tom Krasovic

San Diego Chargers WR Stevie Johnson was spry during organized team activities Tuesday, June 2. He showed his elusiveness and even caught some red-zone passes from QB Philip Rivers.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Stevie Johnson might have more left in the tank than some think. His career went off track with the 49ers, but that was due to the poor passing game led by QB Colin Kaepernick. Now catching passes from Rivers, Johnson will take over as the WR3 for Eddie Royal who moved on in free agency to the Bears. Last year, Royal finished as the 32nd-best fantasy receiver. Johnson has a current ADP of WR68 (14.03) in 12-team PPR leagues.

MIN - HC welcomes RB Adrian Peterson

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson was welcomed back by head coach Mike Zimmer Tuesday, June 2. “We welcome him with open arms, unequivocally,” Zimmer said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Of course the Vikings welcome him back with open arms! Peterson is going to be the centerpiece of this offense, and he'll likely finish as one of the leading rushers in the NFL. The Vikings offense now has the potential to be a lot more dangerous with Peterson rushing the rock.

NYG - Odell Beckham injury not as serious

Source: New York Post - Paul Schwartz

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr.'s (hamstring) hamstring injury is not on the same injury he faced last offseason. Beckham himself said the injuries can't even be compared. Beckham has recently been limited at organized team activities for precautionary reasons.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Giants are being smart here. A hamstring injury knocked him out of action as a rookie, but Beckham got on the field in Week 5 and dominated. In one season, Beckham has made himself a superstar in the NFL. Some think his rookie season could be his career best, but we disagree. So long as he stays healthy, the skies the limit for this truly incredible talent.

NO - WR Brandin Cooks to have big year?

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Triplett

New Orleans Saints WR Brandin Cooks is primed for a breakout year, according to ESPN.com's Mike Triplett. Triplett believes Cooks can attain 100 catches or 1,000 yards with TE Jimmy Graham and WR Kenny Stills now out of the picture.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cooks is the guy to watch out for here in the Saints passing game without Jimmy Graham. He'll be able to take a lot of short catches and turn them into long gains because of his quickness, fearlessness and run-after-the-catch ability. His current ADP is WR15 (3.08) in 12-team PPR leagues.

BUF - QB Matt Cassel, QB EJ Manuel split reps

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Rodak

Buffalo Bills QBs Matt Cassel and EJ Manuel both worked with the first-team offense during organized team activities Wednesday, June 3.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

They seem to be the top two candidates for the starting job with Tyrod Taylor more of a sleeper at this time. Cassel has the experience edge, but the team wants to see if their 2013 first-round pick (Manuel) can actually stay healthy and play at a decent level. At this time, Cassel could be considered the frontrunner because of his aforementioned experience.....but none of these QBs (maybe Taylor) should be fantasy factors in 2015.

BUF - RB LeSean McCoy practices

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Rodak

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy (neck) participated in organized team activities Wednesday, June 3.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCoy is going to be the workhorse for the Bills offense. Rushing the ball over 300 times is not out of the question, and it's something McCoy has done each of the last two seasons with the Eagles. Now, Rex Ryan gets to feature McCoy and this will help an offense that should have average (or below) quarterback play.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Spiller is a better receiver out of the backfield, and those receptions could help put him over the top. Ingram will be the banger between the tackles, but Spiller (when used properly) can be incredibly dangerous in space. There's a chance he could catch 50 or more passes this year, and Spiller should get over 100 carries as the Saints focus on running the ball in 2015. Current ADP has Ingram going off the board at RB13 (3.07) and Spiller at RB22 (4.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.

TB - WR Mike Evans back at practice

Source: Tampa Bay Times - Greg Auman

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans (hamstring) returned to practice Tuesday, June 2, at organized team activities (OTAs) after a “tweak” to his hamstring during drills Thursday, May 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Evans is a big, physical receiver who can dominate at the point of the catch. The hamstring injury was minor, and it's good to see him back in action so soon. Fantasy owners are taking Evans off the board at WR12 (3.03) in 12-team PPR leagues.

CLE - WR Dwayne Bowe tweaks knee

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns WR Dwayne Bowe (knee) left practice Tuesday, June 2, due to a tweaked knee, but the injury is not believed to be serious. He limped off the field midway through the two-hour organized team activities (OTAs) practice. Head coach Mike Pettine said he might be sidelined until Thursday, June 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The injury is considered minor at this time. Currently coming off the board at WR66 (14.01), Bowe is a value for fantasy owners as he's the Browns top receiving threat.

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett is still absent from organized team activities.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep an eye on this situation. The Bears will be able to fine Bennett if he misses mandatory minicamp, which starts later this month. Bennett has made it clear that he wants a new contract.

PHI - QBs overthrew TE Zach Ertz often in 2014

    Source: Phillymag.com - Sheil Kapadia

Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz was overthrown 18.0% of the time when he has targeted by the quarterback in 2014, which was the second highest number among tight ends.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll see if Ertz can get better targets this year. The Eagles traded for Sam Bradford earlier this year, but there's no guarantee he's even going to be healthy enough to start in Week 1 of the regular season. Mark Sanchez may end up getting the most snaps at QB for the Eagles in 2015. Ertz is coming off the board at TE8 (8.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

NO - TE Jermaine Gresham visited NO

    Source: FOXSports.com - Mike Garafolo

Free-agent TE Jermaine Gresham visited the New Orleans Saints Wednesday, June 3, according to sources. No deal is done yet.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

An interesting visit here. Gresham has received little interest as teams wait for him to recover from back surgery he had earlier this year. The Saints could use some tight end depth with Jimmy Graham now playing for the Seahawks. If added, Gresham would compete with Ben Watson for in-line duties. Intriguing prospect Josh Hill should be the team's move tight end in 2015.

HOU - TE C.J. Fiedorowicz feeling more comfortable

    Source: ESPN.com - Tania Ganguli

Houston Texans TE C.J. Fiedorowicz said Wednesday, June 3, he feels more comfortable during organized team activities entering his second season in the NFL than he did in his rookie year. 'There was so much learning last year,' Fiedorowicz said. 'You come up the huddle and there’s three or four things. You got to know the protection, you got to know where to line up, read the safeties, see what kind of coverage it is. There was just so much going through my head where I wasn’t able to play fast. I noticed already this OTA session, I’m going out there and when I see it I’m going fast. The quarterbacks are really seeing us right now, so we’re all excited,' said Fiedorowicz. As a rookie, Fiedorowicz caught four of his seven targets, including one touchdown thrown by RB Arian Foster. The Texans targeted their tight ends a league-low 51 times in 2014.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fiedorowicz is a huge target who can make his presence felt in the red zone. He knows how to use his frame to box out smaller defenders, and he can be a reliable target for whoever ends up as the Texans QB. He'll work behind Garrett Graham as the Texans TE2 in 2015.

SD - WR Malcom Floyd may be in final season

    Source: ESPN.com - Eric D. Williams

San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd said he may consider retirement after the 2015 season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Floyd was an undrafted free agent out of the University of Wyoming in 2004. He caught the first touchdown pass Philip Rivers ever threw for the Chargers, and Floyd has incredibly strong chemistry with the veteran quarterback. A career deep threat, Floyd is slowing down at 33-years old. We could see the Chargers WR3 (Stevie Johnson) get more work this season than some think.

DET - TE Eric Ebron making progress

    Source: Mlive.com - Kyle Meinke

Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron has made progress during offseason workouts and is expected to be the No. 3 target for the team in 2015. 'He's grown up a little bit more,' WR Golden Tate said. 'His confidence is way high right now. He's playing well. I can't wait to see him in pads running around making plays. He's a specimen athletically. So we'll see.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Lions will forever rue the day they passed on WR Odell Beckham Jr. so they could select Ebron instead. Drops are reportedly still an issue with Ebron during recent OTAs. Ebron's 52.1 percent reception-per-target ratio was 25th (out of 25) for tight ends. He'll continue to split time at tight end with veteran Brandon Pettigrew.

SEA - QB B.J. Daniels working as receiver

Source: Everett Herald - John Boyle

Seattle Seahawks WR B.J. Daniels, formerly a quarterback in college, has been working at wide receiver and kick returner in organized team activities (OTAs). Offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell confirmed Tuesday, June 2, that Daniels is a receiver and not a quarterback.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Daniels was never going to be a quarterback in the pros. However, he does have the athleticism to be dangerous as a runner. Now, he's just got to learn the nuances of running a route and looking in passes. That could prove to be difficult as Daniels tries to latch on as a receiver....likely as a developmental player on the practice squad.

CIN - WR Marvin Jones back at practice

    Source: ESPN.com - Coley Harvey

Cincinnati Bengals WR Marvin Jones (ankle, foot) was able to take part in practice Tuesday, June 2, at organized team activities (OTAs). He broke away from a cornerback and had a catch on a deep route from QB Andy Dalton.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones is such a talented wide receiver. In 2013, Jones started to come on and finished the season with 51 catches for 712 yards and a whopping 10 touchdowns. He didn't play at all last year due to this injury. Jones is back, and fantasy owners should take note. He could be a helluva value for fantasy owners this season as he's coming off the board at WR58 (13.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Which would be a death sentence given their QBs. I think most likely they will keep same game plan with backup RBs, as while they are no McCoys, they are capable (Fred Jackson, Anthony Dixon, Bryce Brown, rookie Karlos Williams from FSU).

    Friday Update

MIN - RB Adrian Peterson in good shape

Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Matt Vensel

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson is still in great shape, according to CB Captain Munnerlyn, despite his extended absence from the team and team activities. Peterson returned to organized team activities Tuesday, June 3, following a prolonged hiatus due to displeasure with his current contract.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Peterson has always been driven, which is why we feel pretty good about saying he's a top five fantasy running back this coming season. A year off, one which we can be sure he worked out constantly during, will be nothing but good for his legs as well. Even better, he has a quarterback who is an actual threat and will pull defenders out of the box, which could make him even more effective. Peterson is a good bet for great production again this year.

DAL - RB Darren McFadden wants to produce

    Source: ESPNDallas.com - Todd Archer

Dallas Cowboys RB Darren McFadden wants to prove that he is not a bust and will be given the opportunity as part of the Cowboys' running-back-by-committee approach, according to running backs coach Gary Brown. McFadden has been splitting first-team reps with RB Joseph Randle. McFadden averaged 3.3 yards per carry the last time he played in a zone-blocking scheme, but Brown is not worried about those numbers.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He's kind of running out of chances. We know McFadden has talent, but in order to prove that, he needs to stay healthy—something he has never been able to do. Fantasy owners are nervous, and his ADP is right behind that of his fellow backfield-mate Joseph Randle at the turn of round 5/6. On top of that, this is a team whose backfield has the smell of RBBC to it, which could limit the value of anyone in it as more than an RB2 or RB3.

PHI - RB DeMarco Murray in a timeshare?

Source: Delaware County Times - Bob Grotz

Philadelphia Eagles RB DeMarco Murray is expected to have the rushing workload divided between he and RB Ryan Mathews, offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur said Wednesday, June 3. The OC would not reveal what the percentage of carries would be for either back.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Before anyone freaks out, consider that sharing the backfield doesn't mean a 50/50 split. If Murray performs at the level he did last year, head coach Chip Kelly won't pull him from a game just to give Mathews a couple of series. That said, Kelly likes to switch up formations, so not grabbing Murray as a high first rounder is a safe way to go, because he is unlikely to get the number of carries he did last season.

PHI - RB Ryan Mathews to split carries?

Source: Delaware County Times - Bob Grotz

Philadelphia Eagles RB Ryan Mathews is expected to be used in a timeshare with RB DeMarco Murray, offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur revealed Wednesday, June 3. Shurmur would not reveal what the percentage split for carries would be, however.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

'Split' is a loaded word. It makes everyone nervous, but ultimately could mean Mathews gets 10 percent of the carries—the term doesn't promise a 50/50 share. If Murray plays well, Mathews will still see some time, but not a ton. Even though Kelly will change formations and personnel, he won't bench a productive Murray 'just because.' Mathews is running an ADP of 9.08 right now, which puts him in the range of a solid handcuff for Murray owners or a bye week Hail Mary for someone with room on their bench.

DAL - RB Joseph Randle works with first team

    Source: ESPNDallas.com - Todd Archer

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle worked with the first-team offense in practice Wednesday, June 3, during organized team activities (OTAs) with RBs Darren McFadden (hamstring) and Ryan Williams (knee) unavailable.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Nobody on earth can be shocked Darren McFadden is hurt already, though it is disappointing that Williams continues to be banged up. McFadden and Randle are currently pretty close in ADP, with Randle at 5.11 and McFadden at 6.03. This looks like a complete time-share, though with McFadden's constant health issues, he might be the safer bet for consistent production.

DAL - RB Ryan Williams nursing sore knee

    Source: ESPNDallas.com - Todd Archer

Dallas Cowboys RB Ryan Williams (knee) was sidelined Wednesday, June 3, at organized team activities (OTAs) due to a sore knee.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams has so much talent, but his injuries keep him from reaching his true potential. It's a shame, really, because he could be a huge factor in this offense. Instead, he's likely to be stuck behind Joseph Randle and Darren McFadden, though McFadden certainly has his own injury issues. Williams is going undrafted right now, but could be worth a very late-round flier.

STL - RB Todd Gurley still far from practicing

Source: St. Louis Post-Dispatch - Jim Thomas

St. Louis Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) still has a lot of progress to make before he's able to practice, but he did limited work on the side during organized team activities Thursday, June 4. It has already been speculated that Gurley could begin training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Rams have Tre Mason to work effectively as the starter until Gurley is ready. He could start training camp on the PUP and come back at any time. Even if he starts the regular season on PUP, Gurley is a player every fantasy owner needs to monitor. Gurley is a younger version of Marshawn Lynch with power, speed and tenacity all being hallmarks of his game.

DAL - DAL not pressed for WR Dez Bryant deal

    Source: ESPNDallas.com - Jean-Jacques Taylor

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant hasn't participated in organized team activities this week, but he could show up next week, or at veteran's minicamp the week after that. Bryant did make an appearance at last week's session, in which he did some individual drills. Bryant has also occasionally visited the team's Valley Ranch training complex to chat with head coach Jason Garrett and to lift weights. Vice president Stephen Jones said Wednesday, June 3, he'd like to get a deal done, but it's not the end of the world if Bryant plays out the season under the $12.8 million franchise tag.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We're not expecting much (if any) movement in contract talks here. Both Bryant and Demaryius Thomas (Broncos) are playing the waiting game right now. The deadline to sign franchise players to long-term contracts is July 15th, and that's around when we expect deals to get done--for both superstar wide receivers. We'd be shocked if anything got done before the first week of July.

PIT - WR Antonio Brown adds muscle
    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown has added five pounds of muscle this offseason because he wants to increase his durability. Brown said training, rest and nutrition have helped to contribute to his success.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brown is arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL. He's dangerous and exciting to watch every time he touches the ball. Last year, Brown ran a league-high 631 routes, was targeted 180 times (2nd-most), caught 129 passes (1st) for 1,698 receiving yards (1st), 85 first downs (1st) and 13 receiving touchdowns (2nd). Brown has amazing chemistry with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, and he can attack a defense on short or long routes.

TB - QB Jameis Winston must still earn job

    Source: PewterReport.com

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston, along with everyone else on the team, will still have to earn his starting position, according to head coach Lovie Smith.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Of course Smith is going to say that. There not just going to hand the job over to the number-one overall pick. The Bucs will have a competition between Winston and Mike Glennon, but we'd be floored if Winston isn't the starter in Week 1.

BAL - RB Justin Forsett to catch more passes?

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Aaron Wilson

Baltimore Ravens RB Justin Forsett could see an increased role in the passing game under new offensive coordinator Marc Trestman. Forsett said he's excited about being used more as a receiver and is making sure his route-running is up to part so he can be ready for when he's called upon in that area.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners take note here. Last season under Trestman, Bears RB Matt Forte was targeted 130 times and caught 102 passes. We're not projecting quite that many for Forsett, but if he caught 60 passes in 2015 it would not come as any surprise.

NE - QB Jimmy Garoppolo struggles Thursday

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo threw five interceptions during organized team activities Thursday, June 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There are going to be some rough spots, and it's early, but the Patriots have to hope Tom Brady manages to find a way to cut his suspension down from four games. If you're drafting Brady this year (current ADP is 8.03), you might be tempted to grab Garoppolo as a quick and dirty option for the first month, but you'd be better off with a more proven player who can serve as a long-term backup.

SF - RB Kendall Hunter looking good

    Source: FOXSports.com

San Francisco 49ers RB Kendall Hunter (knee) has looked good during organized team activities, but the team has limited his reps during practice, according to head coach Jim Tomsula. 'I think we all have strong feelings for Kendall. He is, you see him out there moving. He's moving around great. But we definitely have a rep count on him. There's a rep count on all of those guys. You've got to keep him corralled. But he's moving around really quick,' Tomsula said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hunter's knee seems to be in great shape, which is important as he is one of several backs who could take over the heavy lifting left behind by Frank Gore. Carlos Hyde looks like he will get first crack at the role, and is currently at an ADP of 4.01, with Reggie Bush behind him with an ADP of 8.07. Hunter could crack the rotation if he's healthy though, and is worth a late-round flier at this point.

Source: Fort Worth Star-Telegram - Clarence E. Hill Jr.

Dallas Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar has been working as the primary back in the two-minute drills during organized team activities and could be the team's third-down back this season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We could see that, but not much else from Dunbar. His skill set is that of a change-of-pace back and spot starter. We'll see if he can impress enough in training camp to earn a larger role.

BAL - BAL not counting TE Dennis Pitta out
    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley
Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) has been able to some things during organized team activities, and head coach John Harbaugh is not ruling out Pitta playing in 2015. 'Dennis is out there for about half the practice and he's doing a good job, too, so we're not counting him out at all,' Harbaugh said. It is not known if Pitta will start training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Pitta's career may be over, but it's not time to say that just yet. We think he starts training camp on the PUP list where he can return at any time. It will be up to him to prove that he's healthy enough to come back when the regular season starts. At this time, we feel rookie Maxx Williams is the top tight end for the Ravens.

STL - STL expected to use more zone blocking

    Source: ESPN.com - Nick Wagoner

St. Louis Rams offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti is expected to use more of the zone-blocking scheme in the running game this season. The team will continue to use the power-blocking scheme but hopes the zone blocking can help the running game be more productive.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

In theory, this should help the offense but this is a line which was ranked as the 31st in the NFL by Pro Football Focus. Even if you take that with a mountain-sized grain of salt, it's not a pretty picture. It wouldn't be a shock if, as we have seen in the past, the offensive line struggled at first, which would make it difficult for the rest of the offense to get going.

JAX - QB Blake Bortles' mental game improving

Source: The Florida Times-Union - Gene Frenette
Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles is dealing with struggles better mentally than in the past, according to head coach Gus Bradley. Bortles takes things personally too much sometimes, according to Bradley.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Jaguars could really use a big developmental leap forward this year, although his protection was terrible and he was sacked 55 times. Some of that was certainly on him and he needs to speed up his process—but some of it was the awful offensive line. For Bortles' own part, most of his issues are mental. Speeding up his diagnosis, making better decisions while doing that and being more careful with the ball are all big hurdles for Bortles this year.

BUF - WR Sammy Watkins mentally taking reps

Source: The Buffalo News - Vic Carucci

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (hip) said he is mentally taking repetitions in practice while he is limited. He joins the huddle and then simulates lining up to run a pass route by going to his designated side of the formation but remaining behind the line of scrimmage. 'Mentally, I've got to get my reps,' Watkins said. 'I'm behind. I'm not there every day with the guys running routes. So, mentally, I've got to watch the defense, the coverages, watch how things move because I'm going to be coming back soon. And everything's got to be fast and I've got to pick it up.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Watkins should be OK for the start of the season, but his quarterback situation remains brutal. Matt Cassel is average (at best), and isn't accurate downfield. EJ Manuel has been pretty awful when he isn't on the trainer's table. Tyrod Taylor is super athletic, has a rocket arm and is a great unknown after backing up Joe Flacco for years. Watkins has tremendous ability, but his situation leaves him as a WR3 with an ADP of 4.11—reflective of how nervous owners are at this early date.

Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (hamstring) is out of practice Thursday, June 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Panthers would love to have him in OTAs, but there's no rush. Benjamin will be healthy for training camp and currently his ADP is 3.07, reflecting the expectation of owners that he can replicate his 2014 numbers and be a solid WR2.

WAS - WR Pierre Garcon switches sides

Source: The Washington Post - Mike Jones

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon ran routes as the 'Z' receiver instead of the 'X' receiver Wednesday, June 3. This means Garcon lines up split out on the right instead of the left. WR DeSean Jackson was the 'X' receiver, and WRs Andre Roberts and Jamison Crowder rotated as the slot receiver.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Clearly Washington is trying to take advantage of having two great receivers and looking to spread the defense out on occasion. If Crowder or Roberts (or better yet, both) can be effective out of the slot, the defense is going to have to throw a lot of single coverage at the offense. That plays into Jackson and Garcon's hands. Currently, Jackson is the guy people are targeting in early drafts, with an ADP of 5.11, while Garcon has slide down to an ADP of 10.06. Both look like they could be decent options as a WR3 and WR4 respectively.

    Saturday Update

TB - RB Doug Martin leaner, faster

    Source: PewterReport.com - Scott Reynolds

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin is leaner and appears faster than ever this offseason with acceleration that hasn't been seen since his rookie season, according to PewterReport.com's Scott Reynolds. 'I'm trying to get my body fat percentage down,' Martin said. 'I am a little smaller in terms of my body fat percentage that's decreased, so that's good. I'm just trying to get my muscle gain up and get that fat out. Definitely I feel quicker - faster. I feel real good. 'I wanted to be a little faster and a little quicker in my game and for me to be able to do that was to decrease my body fat, go hard in the weight room and come out here on the field and show the coaches. It's really more running and cardio. When I'm at home I'll go run around the neighborhood from time to time, a lot of cardio and keeping up on the weights.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's a make-or-break season for Martin. He needs to stay healthy and start producing at the level he did during his rookie season of 2012. If Martin struggles, Charles Sims could take over as the primary back. Sims and Martin should compete for the starting job in training camp.

DAL - QB Tony Romo glowing this offseason

Source: Fort Worth Star-Telegram - Clarence E. Hill Jr.

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo said this has been his best offseason he has had in three years. Romo has practiced all three days during on-field team activities in each of the last two weeks with no limitations. 'Now I need to continue,' Romo said. 'I'm working as hard as I can to ensure that I'm strengthening the areas that I need to be at my best and right now it's just been a good start in the offseason. I've been able to continue to build and grow.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Romo is going to be well protected by that monstrous (and incredibly talented) offensive line. We'll have to see what the ground game looks like--and more specifically who becomes the team's lead back this season. Either way, Romo will be leading a dangerous offense and that makes him a fantasy factor. His current ADP is QB9 (7.11) in 12-team PPR leagues.

New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram (foot, ankle) was out of practice Thursday, June 4, but head coach Sean Payton said it wasn't due to anything significant. Ingram was out last Thursday due to what Payton described as a minor foot/ankle issue. It's unclear if he has missed the entirety of the last two weeks because one practice session per week is open to the media.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ingram being banged up is nothing new, but it is frustrating. If healthy, the Saints will use him as the bellcow back on an offense that should be more balanced this season. He'll be splitting time with free agent addition C.J. Spiller, but Spiller's role will be mainly as a change-of-pace back and receiver out of the backfield. If Ingram struggles with health, then perhaps Spiller could see a larger role with the Saints in 2015.

SEA - RB Christine Michael's time to shine?

    Source: ESPN.com - Terry Blount

Seattle Seahawks RB Christine Michael will handle a bulk of the running back duties during the offseason with RB Marshawn Lynch and RB Robert Turbin (hip) expected to see little playing time prior to the regular season. 'This is his time,' head coach Pete Carroll said. 'So we're going to push him in that regard and try to match up with his expectations. He wants to be a front-line back and he has tremendous talent. We'll see how it goes.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Michael has a ton of natural talent as a runner--he just needs to stay healthy. His college career at Texas A&M wasn't as productive as it could have been because of a knee injury. During his pro career, Michael has flashed starter's ability as he awaits an opportunity for more playing time. He's tough between the tackles, has pistons for legs and can drive for extra yards after contact.

    SF - Anthony Davis retires

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

San Francisco 49ers OT Anthony Davis announced his retirement from professional football Friday, June 5.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Another unexpected retirement for the 49ers here. Davis saw his 2014 season cut short by injury, and he only played in seven games. A first-round pick in 2010, Davis still had five years remaining on his contract. Part of his $7.5 million signing bonus may be asked to be returned. Davis is going to take 2015 (and perhaps longer) away from football, but there's a chance he could one day return.

TB - RB Charles Sims adds muscle

    Source: PewterReport.com - Scott Reynolds
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Charles Sims has added some muscle during the offseason, which could help him be a better runner between the tackles.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
There's plenty of buzz about Sims being the top back in Tampa over Doug Martin. We'll see this battle play out in training camp, and it's certainly a competition fantasy owners will need to monitor closely.

MIA - WR DeVante Parker update
Source: The Palm Beach Post - Andrew Abramson
Updating an earlier report, Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (foot) will miss eight weeks following surgery on his left foot.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Parker has the potential to be a big part of this offense. His speed and ball-tracking ability will come in handy on deep targets. This foot injury is going to keep him from practicing for the rest of OTAs, but Parker should be ready before the preseason begins.

1 or possibly 2 of those guys will be released by game 1 barring injury.

Not a good sign Atlanta doesn't know who their running back is, although anything is better than Stephen Jackson.

Jackson is no longer a 20 plus carry a game guy

Think it all comes down to age with Rice mainly. Nfl gives plenty of 2nd, 3rd, and on chances to guys with worse character than Rice has ever displayed with exception to that 1 fateful night. Think this has a tiny bit to with incident but becomes more a risk/reward scenario with all things factored. Getting old and showed signs of decline already before the mess. If he were a few years younger and less mileage he would have suitors no doubt and a starting role somewhere.

    Sunday Update

STL - QB Nick Foles praised by teammates

    Source: NFL.com - Chris Wesseling

St. Louis Rams QB Nick Foles was praised by WR Kenny Britt and TE Jared Cook for his performance during OTAs. 'We love him,' Britt said Thursday, June 4. 'Great deep ball, he puts it on the money every time. He can throw every pass in the book.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Foles gets a fresh start with the Rams this year. The team is going to feature a ground game that has Tre Mason and eventually rookie (and potential superstar) Todd Gurley. Foles should be able to benefit from the looks he'll get, and play-action passing should be a staple of the offense.

NE - WR Wes Welker unlikely to Pats

    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

Free-agent WR Wes Welker (Broncos) is unlikely to sign with the New England Patriots unless WRs Julian Edelman or Danny Amendola were injured.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Welker's best days are behind him, and that's why he's not getting much interest on the open market. The concussion problems he had in Denver will also give teams pause when considering the veteran receiver. He may have to wait until the start of the season to find a new home, but it's also possible that his playing days are done.

IND - RB Josh Robinson could have a role

    Source: Colts.com - Kevin Bowen

Indianapolis Colts RB Josh Robinson has a chance to receive snaps in 2015 and could be a key part of the team's backfield in the future, according to beat writer Kevin Bowen.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

At 5'9" 215 pounds, Robinson is a bowling ball between the tackles and he's got good hands as a receiver out of the backfield. It's Frank Gore's show this season, but Robinson could be groomed in 2015 for a larger role in the future.

MIN - WR Cordarrelle Patterson to return kicks again

Source: Pioneer Press - Brian Murphy

Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson will be the primary kickoff returner this season, according to special teams coordinator Mike Priefer. Priefer said he considers Patterson to be the best kick returner in the NFL.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Patterson has immense talent--he just hasn't played up to his potential yet. He's improving as a receiver, but returning kicks is more instincts, speed and make-you-miss ability. Patterson should be able to make big plays for the Vikings as a return man.

NE - RB James White expected to start

Source: Boston Herald - Karen Guregian

New England Patriots RB James White is expected to be the lead back this season, according to Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald. White has received the most quality repetitions in organized team activities so far.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

An important note for fantasy owners here. White didn't do much as a rookie, but he could break out in 2015. He's a willing inside runner, but he lacks the power to be a pile-pusher. However, White is efficient and wastes little motion with the ball in his hands. He's dangerous in space and can be used effectively as a receiver out of the backfield. LeGarrette Blount will be the hammer, but White could be on the field more because of his all-purpose ability. He's one of our favorite sleepers (currently going undrafted in 12-team PPR leagues) this year.

SF - RB Carlos Hyde returns

    Source: ESPN.com - Paul Gutierrez

San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde (leg) returned to organized team activities Friday, June 5, after nursing a minor leg injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Hyde is going to be the lead back for the 49ers this year as they move forward in a new era. The team should be run-heavy on offense to keep things simpler for Colin Kaepernick and the passing game. Hyde is going to be a focal point of the offense. His ADP of RB17 (4.02) in 12-team PPR leagues sounds a bit too high (we like him around RB20) given the uncertain nature of the 49ers.

Pats will use all rbs on roster at some point just like they always do. Wouldn't read too much into practice reps at this point of offseason.

Still can't believe Welker dropped that ball in the Super Bowl. Sure he thinks the same thing everyday.
