NFL Player News for Week 6 - Weekend Edition

    Courtesy of FootballGuys:

CIN - WR A.J. Green won't play Sunday
    Source: ESPN.com - Coley Harvey
Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green (toe) will not play in Week 6 against the Carolina Panthers, according to sources. Green had his right foot in a walking boot Friday, Oct. 10, during the team's walkthrough. Head coach Marvin Lewis said Green's injury was 'a little more than' turf toe Thursday, Oct. 9. Green initially injured his toe in Week 1.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Mohamed Sanu will be the only viable play at receiver for the Bengals and he deserves a look against the weak Panthers secondary. Jeremy Hill and Giovani Bernard should get a ton of touches in the meantime. Marvin Jones could be back soon, but it's Sanu's show for now, as Green's return date is unknown.

    ARI - Cardinals QB a game-time decision?
    Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban
Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) was throwing at around 80 percent and some decent velocity Friday, Oct. 10, but head coach Bruce Arians said all three quarterbacks could be active in Week 6 against the Washington Redskins. A decision on who will start might not come until around game time, and it'll depend on health. Both Palmer and QB Drew Stanton (concussion) were limited Friday in practice and are questionable for Sunday, Oct. 12. Stanton has yet to take or pass his concussion test.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
In other words, don't wait around for your Cardinal receivers. Andre Ellington is the only viable option for fantasy lineups on Arizona this week.

DET - WR Calvin Johnson missed another practice
    Source: ESPN.com - Michael Rothstein
Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) skipped his third straight practice of the week Friday, Oct. 10, for the first time this year. Head coach Jim Caldwell said a decision on Johnson's status for Week 6 against the Minnesota Vikings has not been determined, however. 'And also, you never know. There's a possibility. A couple weeks ago, I really didn't think he'd be available but the fact of the matter is he came out after doctors looked at him and said, hey, you know what, he can go,' Caldwell said. WRs Corey Fuller, Jeremy Ross and Ryan Broyles and TE Eric Ebron would be tasked with replacing Johnson as a committee if he doesn't play.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Johnson not playing would honestly be best for his owners and the Lions right now anyway. He has only gotten worse trying to play through the injury over the last two weeks. Golden Tate becomes a must start with Johnson out.

NE - QB Tom Brady questionable
    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
New England Patriots QB Tom Brady (ankle) was limited in practice Friday, Oct. 10, and he's questionable for Week 6 against the Buffalo Bills.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
If Brady is your guy, have a viable backup on your roster and make sure to check in on Sunday morning. The Patriots are notorious for being hard to decipher via their injury report listings.

NYG - Odell Beckham to be used more?
    Source: NFL.com - Chris Wesseling
New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. played 35 of 68 offensive snaps in his NFL debut in Week 5, and that figure is expected to increase moving forward. He sat behind WR Preston Parker in the first half against the Atlanta Falcons, but then played a huge role as the No. 3 receiver in the second half with the team trailing. Beckham showed great athleticism and scored a touchdown in the game.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Beckham should be owned in all leagues, although his emergence could cap the weekly upside of Victor Cruz, Rueben Randle, and Larry Donnell, while increasing Eli Manning's scoring potential.

MIA - RB Knowshon Moreno listed as probable
    Source: ESPN.com - James Walker
Miami Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno (elbow) is listed as probable on the injury report for Week 6 against the Green Bay Packers, and he's expected to return from his elbow injury Sunday, Oct. 12. He practiced every day this week but was having trouble adjusting to his bulky brace on his left arm.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Moreno should get a sizable amount of carries, but Lamar Miller is still worth at least a flex play, if not an RB2 start against the porous Packers run defense.

DET - RB Joique Bell feeling great
    Source: ESPN.com - Michael Rothstein
Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (concussion) is expected to return to action against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 6. Bell said that his legs 'feel really fresh' and that he is feeling '100 percent all around.'
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Bell is worth a flex start. He should get the majority of touches in the backfield. assuming Reggie Bush can't go on his injured ankle.

DET - RB Reggie Bush to test ankle before Sunday
    Source: ESPN.com - Michael Rothstein
Detroit Lions RB Reggie Bush (ankle) said he will test his ankle sprain this weekend, but he will not push to play in Week 6 against the Minnesota Vikings if he's not ready. Bush learned from WR Calvin Johnson's (ankle) situation when he aggravated the injury last week trying to play on it. 'I'm going to weigh all options and see how we feel on Sunday and if I can go, I'm going to go, but I'm only going to go out there if I feel like I can be myself,' Bush said. he said he's been improving daily, but he didn't practice all week.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
That means Bush could foul things for folks starting Joique Bell, but he still shouldn't be trusted in lineups except in complete desperation.

JAX - RB Toby Gerhart ruled out
    Source: ESPN.com - Michael DiRocco
Updating a previous report, Jacksonville Jaguars RB Toby Gerhart (foot) has been ruled out of the team's Week 6 game.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Gerhart is droppable in all but the very deepest of leagues. Storm Johnson is the only Jacksonville back worth rostering.

WAS - TE Jordan Reed a game-time decision
    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra
Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (hamstring) was limited in practice Friday, Oct. 10, and he'll be a game-time decision in Week 6 against the Arizona Cardinals.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Reed isn't worth playing even if he is active because of the risk of re-injury and sharing with the emerging Niles Paul. Reed won't live up to the upside TE1 value he had in drafts this year.

BUF - RB Fred Jackson sits with fever
Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport
Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson (illness) missed practice with a fever Friday, Oct. 10. However, he would have played if it were Sunday, and he is expected to be fine for Week 6 against the New England Patriots.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Check the inactives, but as long as Jackson is going, play him as a strong RB2 this week. The Patriots have been gashed by good running teams this year, and the Bills certainly aspire to do that every week.

CIN - WR A.J. Green doesn't need surgery
Source: NFL Network - Albert Breer
Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green (toe) will not need surgery on his injured toe, according to a source. He's wearing a walking boot as a precaution.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
This is a relief to his owners, but we already saw this year that Green's injury is subject to aggravation. You have to ride out the storm and hope for the best here, but we wouldn't blame owners who are 2-3 or worse for trading Green for a strong WR2 that can contribute right now.

SF - No contact for TE Vernon Davis
Source: San Jose Mercury News - Cam Inman
San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis (back) was at practice Friday, Oct. 10, but he was still wearing a no-contact jersey.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Davis is still no sure thing to play, so have Derek Carrier or Jared Cook ready Monday night in the event that Davis is a scratch if you are relying on him in your lineup.

SF - RB Frank Gore seeing more rest
    Source: San Jose Mercury News
San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore has 77 carries through five games, his fewest since head coach Jim Harbaugh took over as head coach. Gore had 78 carries through five games last season, 79 carries through five games in 2012, and 94 in 2011.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
His involvement in the offense has trended up the last two weeks, and the performance of the offense has improved for it. Look for him to get a big workload on Monday night against the Rams.

HOU - QB Ryan Fitzpatrick keeping job
Source: Houston Chronicle - Dale Robertson
Houston Texans QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will remain the starting quarterback even though he has struggled at times this season, according to head coach Bill O'Brien. 'He's our starter,' O’Brien said. 'The film never lies. What the film shows us is that everybody on the offense has to play better. The line has to play better. The backs have to play better. The tight ends. The receivers. We've got to coach better. We've got to get the players to understand what we want. When we do that, all the positions will (play) better, including quarterback.'
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Texans fans probably want to see what Ryan Mallett can do, but the brass won't pull the trigger on a change unless Fitzpatrick really melts down or the Texans fall out of playoff contention. Keep Mallett on your 2QB/QB Flex/Deep Dynasty radar.

SEA - WR Percy Harvin expected to play
    Source: NFL
Seattle Seahawks WR Percy Harvin (thigh) practiced in full Friday, Oct. 10, and is probable for Week 6 against the Dallas Cowboys.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Harvin's missed practice yesterday can be chalked up to rest. He had three touchdowns called back by penalty last week, so Harvin could be about to erupt against the Cowboys.

SD - WR Keenan Allen will play
    Source: Chargers.com
San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen (hamstring) practiced in full Friday, Oct. 10, and is probable for Week 6 against the Oakland Raiders.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Allen hasn't been able to get completely healthy this year, but he's still a solid WR3/Flex start at the site of his breakout game last year.

SD - Questionable status for WR Malcom Floyd
    Source: Chargers.com
San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd (calf) was limited in practice for the third straight day Friday, Oct. 10, and is questionable for Week 6 against the Oakland Raiders.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Floyd should play, but he is risky with no full practices this week and trouble staying healthy in his past.

    CHI - Friday injury report
    Source: ChicagoBears.com
Chicago Bears C Taylor Boggs (hamstring), OT Jermon Bushrod (ankle, knee), LB Lance Briggs (ribs), LB Shea McClellin (hand) and SS Ahmad Dixon (hamstring) did not participate in practice Friday, Oct. 10, and have been ruled out for Week 6. LB Jonathan Bostic (back) and CB Sherrick McManis (quadriceps) did not participate in practice and are listed as questionable. C Roberto Garza (ankle), DT Jeremiah Ratliff (concussion), LB D.J. Williams (neck) and FS Chris Conte (concussion) fully participated in practice and are listed as probable.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Bears linebacker corps is very thin, which could mean good things for Steven Jackson and Antone Smith in the Falcons backfield this week.

MIN - WR Cordarrelle Patterson probable
    Source: DetroitLions.com
Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson (hip) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 10, and is probable for the team's Week 6 game.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Patterson isn't going to be affected by his hip injury, but his ability to get open and the Vikings stressing other players in the passing game still appears to be a major drag on his value. He could blossom at any time, but you shouldn't be waiting for that with Patterson in your lineup.

NYJ - Coach not happy with WR Eric Decker's progress
    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini
Updating a previous report, New York Jets WR Eric Decker (hamstring) was limited in practice Friday, Oct. 10, and is questionable for Week 6 against the Denver Broncos. Head coach Rex Ryan said he had been hoping to see Decker do more in practice Friday.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Don't risk Decker in your lineup unless you have no other viable option. There is no real fallback option to look at in the Jets passing offense with Jeremy Kerley ice cold, although Jace Amaro could become an interesting deep TE option if he can start to catch on.

    JAX - Storm Johnson probable
    Source: Jaguars.com
Jacksonville Jaguars RB Storm Johnson (ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 10, and is listed as probable for Week 6.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Johnson is a boom/bust RB2/Flex play against a Tennessee Titans defense that hasn't figured out how to defend the run effectively this year.

SD - RB Ryan Mathews ruled out
Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Michael Gehlken
San Diego Chargers RB Ryan Mathews (knee) has been ruled out for Week 6.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Mathews is still at least another week away from returning. Earlier this week it was reported that he hadn't started to run on his injured knee yet. Branden Oliver's opportunity is huge right now. He could inherit more than the Danny Woodhead role if he keeps playing well.

TEN - TE Delanie Walker probable
    Source: TitansOnline.com
Tennessee Titans TE Delanie Walker (shoulder) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 10, and is probable for Week 6.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Walker has been the one constant bright spot in the Titans offense. He should have a nice day against the Jaguars this week.

CAR - RB Jonathan Stewart questionable
    Source: Panthers.com
Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (knee) was limited in practice Friday, Oct. 10, and is questionable for the team's Week 6 game.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Stewart will be a game-time decision. Even if he plays, his upside is limited against the Bengals in a committee running game that is stuck in neutral.

CAR - TE Greg Olsen questionable

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (ankle) was limited in practice Friday, Oct. 10, and is questionable for the the team's Week 6 game.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
There have been no signs that Olsen's Week 6 status is in danger, but check back on Sunday morning before starting him just in case.

TEN - QB Jake Locker not expected to play
Source: The Tennessean - Jim Wyatt
Tennessee Titans QB Jake Locker (thumb) is not expected to play in Week 6 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and he's officially listed as questionable on the injury report. He made some soft tosses Friday, but was listed as a non-participant in practice. QB Charlie Whitehurst is expected to make his second start of the year.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Whitehurst is actually worth a start in two QB leagues if you are thin at the position. The Jaguars have been a sieve of a defense and Whitehurst was riffing well with his receivers against the Browns last week.

ATL - WR Devin Hester questionable for Week 6
    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra
Atlanta Falcons WR Devin Hester (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Week 6 against the Chicago Bears.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Hester is only a fringe player in very deep leagues that don't have return yards, but he could have something extra in the tank against his old team this week.

TB - WR Mike Evans on track to play
Source: The Tampa Tribune - Roy Cummings
Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans (groin) looks like he's good to go for Week 6 against the Baltimore Ravens.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Evans is just a what the heck flex in his return, and it takes a little edge off of Vincent Jackson's upside. Evans should be picked back up in deeper leagues where he was dropped on news of his injury and a possible multiweek absence.

DAL - Dallas plans to attack CB Richard Sherman
    Source: ESPNDallas.com - Calvin Watkins
Dallas Cowboys owners Jerry Jones said the team doesn't plan to avoid Seattle Seahawks CB Richard Sherman in Week 6. 'With all of the respect we have for him, we're going to have to give him some business over there or we will hurt the balance of what we can do relative to certainly the passing game,' Jones said. 'We can't run from him. That's easy to say and hard to do. We got to challenge him and make him at least cover us one-on-one and Dez of course is the guy who can do it. So I don't see us compromising the rest of our offense by running from Sherman like that.' Sherman is expected to cover WR Dez Bryant, with Bryant mostly lining up on the left side of the field. Sherman has allowed just one touchdown pass this year and was targeted just three times in Week 5.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
If there's someone who can beat Sherman consistently in one-on-one situations with the ball in flight, Bryant is a good candidate. This should be fun to watch, clear your afternoon on Sunday.

OAK - Raiders committed to QB Derek Carr
    Source: CSNBayArea.com - Scott Bair
Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr has received a vote of confidence from new head coach Tony Sparano. “I visited with him and we got a chance to talk about that,” Sparano said. “I said to him, ‘This is your football team; you’re the quarterback. We don’t have time for you to be a rookie right now, this team needs you to step up and be that leader. Don’t sit around and wait to do that.’' Carr has showed good poise through four weeks of ups and downs in his rookie season.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Carr deserves that backing, as he has made the most of a very poor situation. He still doesn't have any redraft fantasy value, but deep dynasty leagues and the Raiders have to be pleased with what they have sen so far from Carr.

NE - RB Stevan Ridley praised
    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss
New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley was praised by head coach Bill Belichick for his growth this season. Belichick also credited Ridley's ball security, vision and confidence.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Ridley and Shane Vereen are looking like weekly upside flex plays with the Patriots offense trending up, after a slow start possibly got them dropped in some leagues.

Brady traveled to Buffalo with no Boot and no noticeable limp. No surprise here, people hate brady and make fun of him constantly, which can be very amusing, but no one can say this guy is not tough as nails considering injuries he has played with over the years.

Typical Belichick smokescreen, Tom is fine. If a Patiot gets a hangnail, he lands on the injury report.
