    Interception on 4th down

    This really bugs me ...

Why on earth would you intercept the ball on forth down especially like 40 yards away from scrimmage .. Just bat it down and gain that 40 yards.. Are CB so selfish ... I have seen this a lot late and it really bugs me ...

Is intercepting easier than batting down , are the CB not thinking and playing the moment ? Sh*t i dont get it.

In the heat of the moment, it's hard to resist if the ball is right there. Plus, some of these guys have returned kicks, so they are thinking TD every time they can get a hold of the ball. How many times have you seen an end zone interception downed in the end zone? They ALWAYS take it out. It drives me crazy when they take it out to the 10 yard line, but could have downed it and had it at the 20. It's sorta like piranha smelling blood in the water, getting an interception seems like a broken play with a great chance to make something happen, even though sometimes it's better to knock it down, take a knee, not field a blocked FG, etc.
