would you buy a really nice apt in detroit for like 200k?

i knew all the bad publicity folks but its not fukin baghdad. it still has 4 major sports teams, public transportation good restaurants ect. been looking around heres what the same apartment would go for in other cities

    Detroit 200k

    Boston 575k
    NY 875k
    Miami 450k
    Dallas 400k
    Denver 500k

so like for better than half price you get a sweet pad. would you do it if you were a single guy and could move?

Haven't updated the avatar in a while have you

BetRev disappeared into the night with players funds, might want to change that

I'd rent something first to make sure I can get up and go if I want/need to, but hey, for that cheap, there's gotta be some decent spots left to live there.

I was just downtown for a few days in October. The place is kinda empty with some large buildings boarded up etc, but people were pretty damn nice that I met, and never felt unsafe.

Might as well give you a 50000% bonus cause I'm pretty sure they are done paying people.

They disappeared for like a month or two, wouldn't have lines up, didn't answer phones/chat, and stiffed some people for no good reason.

Maybe you get paid, I liked them at first too, got a nice homely feel, but get out of there, cause its just an accident waiting to happen.

I wouldn't pay $5 for an apartment in Detroit if it meant I needed to live there. For resale, sure.

However, I'm not you, and my reasons for wanting nothing to do with Detroit are mainly my own.

Make sure you have a job before relocating to Detroit. Unemployment rates are bad and not getting better out there.

yeah they have $5k houses in a burnt out warzone

they have 200k houses that would sell for one million in new york, problem is the racist zombies cross over and vandalize, rape and murder into white neighborhoods and have proclaimed detroit a "black city"

i dont even know why im thinking this way those animals would eat me alive no thanks tom hanks

You'll be happier paying a little more for a better city I'm sure....unless you have some incentive to be in detroit

are you talking about in the heart of detroit or surrounding areas? the place has been hit hard by economy but there's still some nice areas to live in. downtown detroit i havent really explored but got some nice restaurants around the casino areas. how big are these apt? 200k can get you a really nice house down in florida.

    Screw Detroit. Go Vegas instead!

You can get a great place for $200K. Hot chicks everywhere. Awesome food. Awesome nightlife. Liquor on every corner 24 hours a day. Steak and eggs for $3.95. No more getting raped on over-juiced lines!! If you really need a town with pro sports teams you can just take a week vacation to California and go to the 49'ers games.

Vegas is awesome. I go on vacation and laugh when the bars close at 1:00....lol

im just saying that detroit has such a bad rep it has to take its toll on the housing prices. meaning if you can stand the other factors you can grab a very nice 2,000 sf apartment, in a nice area, for around 200k. just look it up on trulia

i guess it depends on how much you spend at home. personally i spend a lot of time at home so the nicer the home the better.

my concern is that the surrounding areas are so bad that you literally dont feel safe half the time.

however, to live in a big american city with a nice pad for a discount price might be worth it if you are willing to gamble that you can dodge some bullets every now and then

florida sucks. its incredibly humid 8 months out of the year. only good if you are rich and own a beach house

vegas would be an option but its not bargain basement like detroit

entire northeastern corridor no thanks im not paying extra for crowds and mostly bad weather

    california maybe

colorado is the dream state for me, decently priced, best weather

How is an apartment 200k? The silverdome sold for 550k. There's probably 2 million just in the metal. An apt in Detroit should be like 70k. Never would I spend 200 to live in a dump like that.

Las Vegas is horrendous now.Murders at the southpoint shootings in hotel lobbies. Drive down Charleston and go to the north part of town. As Vegas is not as dangerous as Detroit but its getting worse because it has gotten so young some great places still like Summerlin is awesome especially the area around The Red Rock.

Agree. Lived in Vegas over 10 years. Desert Shores for awhile in the Northwest part of town and then moved South into Green Valley (Henderson). You can buy houses in Vegas for a song, no income tax and property taxes are low due to the casinos. Night life is non-stop and great dining and entertainment deals. Lots of people don't know that you can snow ski #@ Mt Charleston in the morning and water ski @ lake mead in the afternoon.

I used to go to Vegas once a year and play cards and gamble. One night when I was ready to crash, I looked through a real estate brochure. I lived outside NYC and everything is crazy expensive. I couldn't believe how cheap housing was in Vegas and learned a long time ago, it's not how much you make, it's how much you have after you pay all your bills.

I switched careers and moved out to Vegas when it was exploding in the late 80"s. Had tons of disposable income due to cheap housing, taxes. Had a sweet boat on Lake Mead and tons of toys. I made a small fortune in real estate and investing in gaming stocks. Sold my house and rotated into other stocks when I left in 2000. Bought at the bottom and sold at the top. Simply lucky.

Thinking back, I had a consulting job in the late 80's. Once a month I had to fly out to Dearborn (outside Detroit). Even then, Detroit was very dangerous at night. We used to go to Greek Town and were told by people in the office to take cabs only, no mass transit and don't walk. I was young and crazy then, older and wiser now and no need to put yourself in those kind of positions.

One huge problem with Detroit is property taxes. They have some beautiful houses near the water that are dirt cheap, but the taxes are crazy high. Other cost like Insurance on property, cars, will be very high due to crime, theft. Bottom line, Detroit is a shit hole and close to a war zone. I wouldn't live there if they gave me a home for free. Life is to short. Make sure you check into the property taxes. Common fees will also be very high on that apt., with security cost being a big part of that expense.

Check out Vegas, the south or other parts of the midwest. Detroit would be my last choice to live.

North Vegas was and always will be a hole. The area from the Stratosphere down to edge of Fremont is very shady.

Obviously with gambling, you are going to have pockets of run down areas where derelict gamblers , drug addicts , whores, ply their trade. Some are just down on their luck, lost their jobs and so on.

Henderson, Green Valley, Desert Shores, Summerlin, Red Rocks is super nice. Tons of beautiful gated communities. Had Friends in the Fountains and another place called Spanish something? Maybe Spanish Oaks? Can't recall.

Boulder City is also pretty nice and right near Lake Mead.
