The Eagles bolstered their special teams on Tuesday with the signing of do-it-all return man Brad Smith. The 29-year-old Smith has experience as a quarterback, running back and wide receiver on offense, but his biggest contributions during an eight-year career have come on special teams, where he has four career kickoff return touchdowns.

Smith, 6-2, 213 has not played a game this season after he was placed on injured reserve by the Buffalo Bills in the preseason with a rib injury. The Bills released him from injured reserve last Friday with an injury settlement, allowing Smith to sign with any of the other 31 teams in the NFL. He now joins an Eagles team that ranks 23rd in the league with a 21.9-yard kickoff return average.
Interesting pick-up. They obviously were not overly pleased with the coverage units. Maybe he gives them a little boost on kickoffs. Punts I thought they were fine splitting Johnson & Jackson - but this fees DeSean from needing to do punts unless they need a big return like the old days with Brian Westbrook. From the surface, Master Chip says Smith will have nothing to do with anything QB related.
