    Ravens getting 8.5 opening night?!?

this line seems off to me, i know its not the same team, but didnt this team just win the superbowl? Denvers defense is a mess right now von miller out, and injuries...Something im not getting here?

What will end up throwing people off is how Flacco is so hot and cold and really is very overrated. I know he has great playoff stats, but if you saw last year's playoffs you know that Anquan had to work his ass off to make circus catches because of Flacco's poor passing. All the Ravens realistically have on offense is Torrey Smith and my boy Ray Rice. Leach is good but not that big a deal and Jacoby Jones is learning to step into the number 2 WR role, but isn't there yet. Now the Raven's are my team (I'm from Baltimore), so I hope they do well this season, but Flacco will let you down.

Also, Peyton and his amazing receiving core will slice through the Ravens in Denver. Ravens lost too much on defense, and it will take them a few weeks to get in good form. It is what it is.

idk, i think the ravens defense is still going to be good dont forget they do still have sizzle webb nagta and dumerville. I actually played with ray ray in high school believe it or not dudes an animal and will continue to be one the broncos defense is going to be garbage till there healthy with or without von miller, and they dont have dumerville there gonna be an easy team to score on first few weeks, champ is hurt also. i like the ravens here a lot

If you like DEN, the only way to play it is in a 6 pt teaser. DEN not good enough to lay that much to BAL.

Manning will have a field day.
    Broncos all day.
    Lay the wood with confidence.

I thought this was odd when I first saw it. However, I use a book called "Beat the Sportsbooks" by Dan Gordon to rate the teams and when I did the exercises suggested I came out to Denver -8.

Dan suggests that you give each team a letter rating based on how many games you think they will win. The highest rating is A+ if you think they will go 15-1 or 16-0. The lowest rating is E- if you project a team to go 1-15 or 0-16. Please keep in mind that these are simply your projections, they do not need to reflect the actual outcomes, simply provide you a baseline to compare teams.

I rated the Broncos as an A and the Ravens as a B+. Dan then has a chart that tells you how many points each rating should get next to a C rating.

An A rated team should be favored by 13 points compared to a C. A B+ team gets 8 points against a C. The difference between 13 and 8 is 5. The Broncos should be favored by 5 points on a neutral field. Fields are not neutral. I give 3 points for homefield advantage, thus making the Broncos -8. The fact that the line is going to 8.5 tells me the public money is coming in on the Broncos.

I am not saying that my analysis is right or wrong, but I was shocked to see how close to the real spread I actually was. I highly recommend Dan's book. I have a long ways to go before I can become a respectable handicapper, but this book was a large leap in the right direction I think.

This 2013 Raven team is hardly your 2012 SB winning Raven team
