Best 3 QB's (remember best means WINNING)

    Joe Montana
    Tom Brady
Terry Bradshaw (would love to put Marino---but...Not a winner)

    Overrated QB's

Joe Namath (has anyone ever seen his stats?)
    Brett Favre (quality not quantity)
John Elway (Great QB-without Terrell Davis he would have 0 Super Bowls)

Most underrated quarterback I've seen in my lifetime is Peyton Manning. The guy never had a great offensive line or players. The guy could get the ball out in a second on a rush, and accurate.

Most overrated before the Super Bowl is Patrick Mahomes. I think he is a great quarterback, tough, don't get me wrong. But calling him the GOAT with only one Super Bowl is over the top. With his injuries, we can't be sure if he'll last to win more than 1 Super Bowl.

Also underrated is Goff. When he has time he's a great qb. The trade to get Stafford was not a good one, but then again Stafford is a somewhat better current quarterback and gives them a better shot at a home Super Bowl next year.

I'll add a bit of commentary:

*I do think PeytonM and Brady rate as the best. Colts had to go thru Patriots, how many SBs does Peyton play in if no Brady? Only negative on Peyton/Brady would be playing in a QB-friendly era.
*I do think Elway rates a special category. Arm-strength 2nd to none, would throw 50-yard square-outs. Arm so strong that any young QB prospects described as having "a John Elway-type arm" can only be laughed at.

*Honorable mention to Marino + Montana. Marino arm ability coming on the scene was so unique. Low sack rate, despite slow feet.
*Montana collected a lot of hardware. So cool. Only criticism I can think of is that Steve Young MIGHT HAVE produced the same set of trophies, if given the chance.

    Overrated:
*Namath, just b/c he got more mileage out of one game than any player ever. TD/INT ratio < 1.00. Bad knees, miracle he played as long as he did.
*Bradshaw. Only b/c he played on a near-perfect roster. Struggled to beat out Gilliam & Hanratty in his early years. Played great in the Super Bowls, w/ 1/2-credit to Swann. How many OTHER qb's also get 4 rings on those teams?
*Eli M. As a contemporary, Romo was better. Just that Eli got hot for two SB-runs, and he had roster that answered the bell. Look at his career as a whole, really not superlative.

    Honorable Mention:
*Starr. Similar to Bradshaw, played on a near-perfect roster loaded w/ future HOFers. Saving grace was the Ice Bowl drive to beat the Cowboys.
*Favre. Iron Man streak can't be overlooked, played inhibited on many occasions. Played some years where his coaching led to poor decision-making and lot of INTs. Loaded roster the year he won SB.

Wow, Kenny Anderson. That's a good one. Almost a forgotten name.

As for Marino, no way I could say he was underrated. Dolphin brass really never got him the premiere RB and tough Defense he deserved.

    brady is the most over-rated

always benefits off of other teams finding incomprehensible ways to lose with victory in their grasp

he has the most playoff wins while throwing 3 or more picks

Greatest 3 pure talents at QB

    Rodgers
    Manning
    Mahomes

These 3 guys are anything but mechanical like greats Cousins, Brady or Brees or Montana...these 3 guys win w zero line and zero defense

    3 most overrated

    McNabb
    Culpepper
    Namath/ Bradshaw

Until he ripped up his knee Daunte was an MVP candidate and chalking up huge numbers

I actually disagree w McMahon. During covud I went back and watched his game play w Vikes, Eagles, Bears, Chargers.

He was always banged up but he moved the ball, won games and made big throws when needed.

    Also his mobility under-rated.

He wasn't great, but he was a fukkin gamer and I'd start him on my squad

Go back and watch the 1985 MNF game , Bears at MIN. McMahon was nursing and injury, didn't start.

They were going to lose. McMahon kept nagging Ditka to get into the game. Ditka finally relented.

McMahon threw a TD on a busted play as soon as he went in. Played great and Bears won.

Yes, ez to think of the Bears as all defense. A healthy McMahon was very good. The next yr, Packer Def Lineman Martin slammed McM on an absolutely criminal play, out for year.

I don’t have a complete list & didn’t read through all the list prior, but did anyone mention Troy Aikman on the overrated list ? He comes to mind right away regarding that list.

Aikman and Brady are both probably the most overrated. They were products of great franchises. Both were good QBs but not great.

Hard to rate Bradshaw because they did not throw nearly as much back then.

McNair would be the other. He was a great runner, not a great passer. He got the job done.

Greatest QBs I'd have to rate Rodgers and Brees. Marino maybe third. Marino kind of revolutionized the game.

Frank Tarkenton was a heck of a QB. He might be the most under-rated. The Vikes had some great defenses. He did not have a whole lot to work with.

Jim Kelly definitely one of the most under-rated. Dan Fouts. Holy Cow. Dan Fouts could throw the football.
