**packers +150 is an absolute gift

look at recent winners/competitors in the super bowl

last year - eli vs brady
2011 - rodgers vs big ben
    2010 - brees vs peyton
2009 - big ben vs warner
    2008 - eli vs brady
    2007 - peyton
    2006 - big ben
    2005 - brady
    2004 - brady

i don't see ANY rookie qbs in that mix, and i see a lot of big arms and high-power passing games. people can talk about running the ball and stopping the run in the postseason but that is complete bullshit.

so out of the nfc the only logical choice is rodgers. can you really see wilson, kaepernick, or matt ryan winning a super bowl or even being competitive? i can't.

Given Justin Smith's injury situation, the superiority of Rodgers and the superiority of the Niners almost everywhere else on the field, I don't know how anyone views this game as remotely bettable.

    Good luck MM.

As an admitted Packer homer as I am, I do think Harbaugh has made a mistake in the benching of Alex Smith. If you want to go with Kaepernick next year over Smith I think I'm ok w/ that. Give him another off-season and the mental preparation that he'll be the starter going into the year, ok....but I think Alex Smith gives them the best chance to win in these playoffs this year. The Packers have to be thrown on in order to beat them in the playoffs...

The last 2 times Aaron Rodgers and the Packers were eliminated from the playoffs it was Kurt Warner who threw for 379 yards in that crazy 100 pt. OT game 3 years ago and Eli Manning last year who threw for 330 yards vs. Packers.

Yes, the Niners beat them Week 1 @ GB when Smith only threw for 210...but he was very efficient that game and tore them up when necessary. I think he was 20/26 that game if my memory of the box score check from 5 minutes ago is correct.

Bottom line, if Kaepernick isn't efficient through the air when need be just as Alex Smith already was vs. GB in Week 1, they will lose on Saturday night. He'll have a few nice scrambles, w/e, but if he doesn't throw for 200+ w/o turning the ball over like A. Smith did I don't think they will win. To me, Alex Smith gives Niners better chance of managing game better in playoffs and letting their defense and running game win them games just like the game Week 1 in GB.

Justin Smith injury also big deal, we'll see what happens there as well....

49ers will try to pound the ball....

Packers just played AP 2x, should be ready for fukkin Frank Gore.

Kapernick will have a lot of roll outs to Crabtree/Vernon Davis.. Packers better not give cushion, they better make this guy throw the deep ball.

However, I believe 49ers chances go up with Kapernick under center, over A. Smith

I agree somewhat but GBs receiving core is 100x better plus SFs O-line can be about as bad at pass protection as GBs when they fall behind. See SF @ Balt last yr or NYG @ SF this year. GB can fall behind double digits and possibly come back but SF gets down and they're in trouble.

I'm sorry, are we predicting a super bowl or a divisional playoff game? The premise was that the 9ers can't win because it will eliminate the only elite QB left in the NFC. BTW, all those guys represented the NFC.

You can argue whatever you want, I was arguing in defense of the OP, who stated initially:

If Matt Ryan gets to the SB, he'll get more cred in the "elite QB" talk. His career numbers are similar to a young Peyton.

Even with Kaepernick and RW, we might have some elite QBs in the making. Right now, I take either one over Flacco/Shaub.

Why are people acting like Kaepernick is a joke? 5-2 as a starter, 98.3 QB rating, 62.4 completion percentage, and averaging 6.6 yards per game. The zone read is going to be difficult for the Packers to stop too. Also, like I said, people are looking too much at QB vs. QB in this game. Despite the QB position, the Niners are better in just about every other facet.

the niners WERE better in a lot of areas that they are probably close to even in, now that many of the packers' injured guys are back.

i wouldn't be shocked if the niners won this game, i just don't see it happening 60% of the time (that +150 implies).

For being "better in almost every position but QB" and having this game at home in SF, surely the bookies have made a mistake at only -3 then. I'd say you should jump all over that then...

Not sure about this. Crabtree seems to be much in sync with Kap, but it sure seems like Vernon Davis' production has dropped off significantly.

+1--two teams that that were both division winners with records of 11-5 & 11-4-1 that both played tough schedules & yet 1 team is considered to be "better" at almost every position except qb--that superior team is at home & only favored by 3--
3 point home fav's are not the bargain they appear to be.

Good grief, the stats from Jeff Garcia and Tim Rattay will have no impact on this game. LOL
