Redskins | Washington still has hope for Alex Smith
Washington Redskins senior vice president of football operations Doug Williams said QB Alex Smith (leg) hopefully will be able to play at some point in 2019.
Footballguys view: Note how Williams says 'at some point' here. That doesn't mean at the beginning of the season and it may mean well into the regular season. We're hopeful for Smith as well but there's still a chance he never plays football again. Expect Washington to make a move at the quarterback position this offseason, either through the draft or free agency.

49ers | Alfred Morris probably will leave
San Francisco 49ers impending free-agent Alfred Morris is not expected to re-sign with the 49ers this offseason.
Footballguys view: Morris is not the same player he used to be and might struggle to find a ton of interest. In 2018, Morris rushed for 428 yards (3.9 YPC) and two touchdowns in 12 games with the 49ers.

49ers | Raheem Mostert likely will return Sun Feb 17, 06:02 PM
San Francisco 49ers restricted free-agent RB Raheem Mostert likely will receive a tender offer this offseason and could even receive a multi-year extension from the team.
Footballguys view: Mostert averaged a whopping 7.7 yards per carry in 2018. He fractured his right forearm during the team's Week 9 win over the Oakland Raiders and was shut down for about half of the season. Undrafted out of Purdue in 2015, an original round tender would not give the 49ers much protection if some team wants Mostert. Perhaps an extension is best.

Bills | Zay Jones can play in slot
Buffalo Bills WR Zay Jones has the ability to be a slot receiver and played the position during his college career, in the opinion of BuffaloBills.com's Chris Brown.
Footballguys view: Jones finished the year with 56 catches and 25 of those came from the slot. He ranked 42nd in the league in 2018 with 316 receiving yards from the slot position. Jones can do that and in fact could be a consistent chain-mover for the Bills offense in that role. We'll see what the Bills have in store for Jones in 2019.

Patriots | Dwayne Allen may return in 2019
New England Patriots impending free-agent TE Dwayne Allen could re-sign with the Patriots this offseason, but he would likely have to accept a pay cut, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Mike Reiss.
Footballguys view: This could be a big return for the Patriots, especially with the future of Rob Gronkowski still up in the air. Several people in the Patriots organization like Allen's professional approach, and he has been around Gillette Stadium over the last few weeks.

49ers | Tag possible for Robbie Gould?
San Francisco 49ers impending free-agent PK Robbie Gould could be an option for the franchise tag this offseason, in the opinion of ProFootballTalk.com's Mike Florio.

Saints | Mark Ingram unlikely to receive tag
New Orleans Saints impending free-agent RB Mark Ingram likely will not receive the franchise tag this offseason, in the opinion of ProFootballTalk.com's Mike Florio.
Footballguys view: Ingram should be looking for lead-back work on the open market after splitting time with Alvin Kamara over the last two seasons. We'd like to see a run-heavy team like Baltimore land the veteran power back. Ingram should have no shortage of suitors in free agency.

Broncos | Washington also sought Joe Flacco
Denver Broncos QB Joe Flacco also was coveted by the Washington Redskins, helping spark the Broncos to make the trade with the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday, Feb. 13.
Footballguys view: Washington needs all the help they can get with Alex Smith's football future in question. The move kind of came abruptly for the Broncos, although there was buzz they would be interested in acquiring Flacco. Perhaps they wanted to get something done before Washington was able to put a package in place to add the veteran quarterback.

    Tuesday Update

Packers | Green Bay won't drastically change offense
Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers will not be asked to run a dramatically different offense than the one he has operated for most of his career, according to offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.'When you take a guy like Aaron Rodgers, who is a very good football player, I mean, he's kind of one of those guys where you can kind of pretty much do a lot of everything. I think a lot of it is going to carry over. I think some of the language will be different but it's going to be a lot of the same premises for him,' Hackett told PackersNews.com.

'At the end of the day, they're going to do what's best for them,' Murray said. 'I can't go into it with any expectations of being taken by the Cardinals. That would be nice for sure.'

Cowboys | Terrance Williams has option declined
Dallas Cowboys impending free-agent WR Terrance Williams' option was not exercised Monday, Feb. 18, according to sources. He is now a free agent.
Footballguys view: Williams may not have much of a market when the new league year begins on March 13th. He never quite played up to his potential with the Cowboys and now will try to find a new home. In 2018, Williams played in only three games and caught just two passes for 18 yards. A foot fracture (and a three-game suspension) ended his 2018 season prematurely.

Broncos | Joe Flacco passes physical
Denver Broncos QB Joe Flacco passed his physical, making it possible for the Broncos and Baltimore Ravens to make their traded official in March. The Broncos agreed to trade the better of their fourth-round picks for Flacco.
Footballguys view: The trade can become official once the new league year begins on March 13th. Flacco is an upgrade over Case Keenum so long as he's healthy. A hip injury limited him to just nine games in 2018 and Flacco did play with a back injury for most of the 2017 season.

    Wednesday Update

Rams | New information on Todd Gurley's injury?
Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) was 'more hurt than we thought' and could have been dealing with a sprained knee as opposed to knee inflammation, as head coach Sean McVay and the team indicated during the season, according to comments made by C.J. Anderson on Fox Sports 1's 'Undisputed' on Tuesday, Feb. 19.'The injury was a little bit more than what everybody in the building thought, including himself. ... Yeah, he'd never really tell me. ... I would say sprained knee. Obviously, it's the same knee injury he's had before in his career. Obviously, I had surgery on my meniscus and once you have a knee, you always have a knee. So it aggravates and if he was getting a lot of touches earlier in the year -- obviously him being one of the best backs, that probably was the case,' Anderson said.

Vikings | Adam Thielen extension coming soon?
Minnesota Vikings WR Adam Thielen's agent recently expressed optimism that his client and the team are committed to hammering out an adjusted contract that will make Thielen one of the more highly paid receivers in the league. Thielen is about to enter the third season of a four-year, $19.246 million base deal.

Broncos | Emmanuel Sanders refuses to restructure deal
Denver Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders (Achillies') is sheduled to count $12.94 million against the salary cap in 2019, but he appears to have no interest in restructuring his contract entering the final year of his deal. Denver has until March 12 to exercise his 2019 option, which would trigger a $1.5 million guarantee of his salary. In the event they choose to release him, the Broncos will save $10.25 million against the cap.

Ravens | Baltimore attempting to rebuild offense
Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson is expected to be the focal point of an offense that is undergoing a 'reimagining,' according to offensive coordinator Greg Roman. 'We're really looking at this as a completely new beginning as if we were a new staff. I think we have run an offense here that has been kind of morphed over the years, and we really want to start fresh, start new, and (with) everything from our language, our formations, how we do everything, rebuild the thing from the ground up. That's one angle. The other angle is really, how do we want to move forward with Lamar Jackson? He's a unique player with a unique skill set, so let's build an offense that really accommodates that, as opposed to try to fit him into something that other people had once done,' Roman told The Athletic.

Buccaneers | Tampa Bay signs Andre Ellington
Free-agent RB Andre Ellington (Texans) was signed to an undisclosed deal by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tuesday, Feb. 19. Ellington played for Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians when they were with the Arizona Cardinals.
Footballguys view: Ellington's best season as a pro came in 2014 under Arians. That year for the Cardinals Ellington had 660 rushing yards, three rushing touchdowns, plus 46 receptions for 395 yards and two receiving touchdowns. That was some time ago, and Ellington has not produced anything close to that since and was out of the league in 2018. Ellington will be hard pressed to make the final roster but will attempt to do so as a receiving back for the Bucs.

Ravens | Hayden Hurst at full health
Baltimore Ravens TE Hayden Hurst (foot) is fully healthy again after a screw was recently removed from the foot he fractured last August.
Footballguys view: The 2018 first-round pick wasn't able to make much of an impact as a rookie. Hurst was able to play in 12 games in his rookie year and caught only 13 passes for 163 yards and one touchdown. The Ravens have a run-heavy offense with QB Lamar Jackson running the show, so Fantasy GMs should not expect much from Hurst outside of TE2 levels of production in 2019.

Free-agent RB Le'Veon Bell (Steelers) reportedly weighed around 260 pounds during his year off from football. The Jets are fairly concerned about the shape Bell is in after he played at 225 pounds in 2017.
Footballguys view: New York is considered to be one of the front-runners to sign Bell this offseason. Despite the weight issue, the Jets will add him for the right price. The Jets currently boast the second largest salary cap heading into the offseason behind the Indianapolis Colts.

NFL | Kyler Murray's combine participation uncertain
Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray said he will attend the NFL Scouting Combine but is not sure if he will throw during the quarterback drills.
Footballguys view: Murray doesn't really need to throw at the combine although it would be nice. His measurements will be key for his draft stock. He's a smaller quarterback, so teams will want to know if he's put on weight and if he's got the frame to add more muscle. Murray is a potential no.1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft.

Jaguars | Carlos Hyde unlikely to stay

Footballguys view: Walker appeared in only one game in 2018, but he was targeted seven times in that contest where he caught four passes for 52 yards. The Titans tight end position wasn't the same without him and he should be eased back into action...whether that's OTAs or later. He said his rehab is on track at the end of the season.

NFL | Dwayne Haskins expected to throw
Ohio State QB Dwayne Haskins plans to throw during the NFL Scouting Combine, according to a source.
Footballguys view: Haskins is considered the top quarterback in the 2019 NFL draft. This past season for Ohio State, Haskins had 50 touchdown passes with only eight interceptions. He's a rhythm passer who can work well on the short-to-intermediate game. Haskins is not a scrambler but does have the athleticism to climb the pocket while keeping his eyes downfield.
