    It's not a new injury, if anything it's just a term that hadn't been used in sports before.

    It's been around for a long time in sports, just not so many at same time/season

    Dwight Freeney and several running backs in the mid 2000s I remember

    It's just another name for a ligament tear in the foot, which is why it is most common in RB
