Why would the Pats give Wes Welker an extension

There's numerous examples of very young WRs being very productive for cheap

Welker isn't a QB... he's a 31 year old WR who will not get any better.

    Poor decisons

With Tom Brady and young talented receiver will be just like Welker

Welker could not even make Jets roster because of poor QB

Yea so he should just realize: "I guess it simply wouldn't make sense for them to be so dumb and offer me a huge cash valued extension"

You honestly don't think Welker is a key part of that offense? His production is ridiculous. What about the year he got hurt, and there was no one on the roster who could fill his shoes? Welker is lightning quick laterally, and he can navigate the slot better than anyone else in the league.

Welles is 31 and not a qb. He should beg the pats to give him one year deal the rest of his career. No way does he produce those numbers with any other team.

pats added b lloyd, i think all pats receivers stats go down. They have too. Brady can't throw for 6 k yards.
I like Aaron Hernandez this year in fantasy in round over a gronk in round 1 or early 2

He is a key piece to NE offense but he is a replaceable part. They can let him test open market after season and either someone overpays for him or Pats bring him back at a reasonable rate. Hernandez will be next in line for extension and if Pats spend big on WR it will be for Wallace next season if Pitt doesn't get long term deal done with him.

people praising brady but turning their backs on welker. you are no better than that bimbo gisele, giselle or whatever you call that dumb bitch. it was a bad throw. look at the clip again. no one blames brady for making a poor throw to a wide open receiver...

Both were to blame but that is a catch Welker normally makes.

Brady shouldn't of threw it over his head. He's 5;9 , actually shorter and they lie about height. He had to look up, turn, jump, etc.
    Simply a bad pass

    Agree.

I think the Manningham catch along the sideline is what people will remember about this Super Bowl.

That was as good as it gets.

Both were to blame. Brady should've made a better throw, and Welker should've caught it. It wasn't a horrible throw, and Welker got 2 hands on it. Brady should have led him though

It wasn't a perfect throw, but QB's make imperfect throws all the time. Perfect or not, it hit his hands and it was a ball that Welker catches at least 95 times out of 100. That's why it's so memorable along with the fact that it was a game-changer.

I'm not saying he sucks because he dropped one ball, but at least for me still it's going to be hard to think of Welker and not remember that play.

I wouldn't re-sign him long term, but a 2-3 year deal is reasonable. He has been extremely productive and will continue to be for at least 2 more seasons. Brady loves him and needs him that offence. However, it looks like he will hit FA next summer and probably not re-sign with the Pats.

Nobody ever said that. He is and has been a great player. Doesn't mean he can't have a memorable bad play.
