Mike Rose: Philadelphia Eagles -5.5

The Texans are everyone’s darlings after their solid NFLX run that saw them win 3 of 4 SU and go 3-0-1 ATS.

New HC Gary Kubiak did a fine job trimming off the fat of the Texans roster when he came aboard, and made a number of key acquisitions and drafted well to shore up the teams deficiencies.

That being said, they’re still nowhere near the level of the Philadelphia Eagles who had a nightmarish 2005 campaign. They were decimated by injuries, and suffered only the second losing season in the Andy Reid era since he took over in 1999. Nobody’s more ecstatic about 2005 being over than QB Donovan McNabb. He suffered through a painful sports hernia and missed a bulk of the season to have surgery to correct it. He also had to deal with all the T.O. garbage, and that’s an entirely different entity in and of itself. With the slate wiped clean and the Eagles healthier, I’m looking for them to get back to playing the type of ball we’ve become acclimated with the last five years.

Houston just doesn’t have the horses to keep up with them on either side of the ball, and I’m of the belief this line is way too big of an overreaction to the Texans success in the pre-season. Houston is still a flawed football team, and they don’t have the experience or speed to keep up with Philly’s vets. Sure, their play will resemble that of a team deserving to be in the NFL, but how could it not with a football mind like Gary Kubiak running the show. Once again, don’t let the Texans pre-season numbers fool you. Lay the points!
