Is Green Bay's Defense Good Enough to Win a Superbowl???

I say this because their defense has looked just absolutely terrible at times this year (especially last 2 games - giving up 27 points against a mediocre vikings offense starting a rookie and then nearly blowing a 21 point lead against a so so Chargers offense)

I realize they take the ball away still but their defense just doesn't play with the same ferocity as the Green Bay defense of last year. In fact, I would say there's been maybe 2 or 3 games this year where their defense has been very impressive (Atlanta, STL and maybe Chicago)

I think when it comes time for the playoffs - it wouldn't surprise me at all to see Detroit or New Orleans beat this team if they can hold Green bay below 38 points (And if they're able to advance to the superbowl, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Baltimore beat this team)

honestly all it will take is one subpar game in the playoffs from Rodgers and the packers will probably lose. Their defense is porous but their offense puts a ton of pressure on the other team to match them score for score.

Steelers will beat GB if they meet up

I'm just shocked at how awful their defense has been at times this year

take away that game against STL and they're giving up about 25 points per game this year. I understand GB offense is awesome but can they score 30+ points in 3 straight games playing against teams like NO/Detroit/San Francisco and then Baltimore/Pittsburg in the Superbowl???

it is like the defense just figures rodgers will bail them out of any mistakes they make.

one thing for sure is that 2011 Packers are not as good as the 2007 Patriots...not even close IMO

Yeah, that's what it seems like. Losing all pro safety Collins for the year is really hurting the back end and their pass rush hasn't been the same since Cullen Jenkins left for Philly. They get Jenkins' replacement Mike Neal back in a week or two and it should help their inside pass rush. He's been out all year with a knee injury, supposed to be a force inside; we'll see.

depends on who they face. i do think they are capable of beating any team hence the reason they are 8-0.

    uh...wat??

The Patriots offense averaged 36 points per game in 2007 - the pack are around 34-35

and the difference on defense is much bigger - Patriots gave up around 17 while the pack are giving up around 23

With all due respect, we're only at the halfway point In the season.

GB's receivers 1-5 and Finley as a TE are better than anything the Pats had in 2007 IMO. This passing attack by GB when it's all said and done may be GOAT.

We finally agree on something. Jenkins & Collins were crucial keys to last year's playoff run. Jenkins' huge shoes are still waiting to be filled and there's very little evidence that Neal can be the answer either. Lucky for the Packers, they've been playing with a lead most of the year and their run defense hasn't been truly tested over the course of an entire game. If we think their pass defense is giving up a lot, their run defense might be just as bad, it's just being covered over by playing with the lead most of the year so far.

Tony Dungy says the Eagles are the team that would matchup best with the Packers. They have the offensive weapons to exploit the poor PAck secondary, and have the cover corners to defend them. Also have a very good pass rush.
Long way to go for the Eagles before they even get there, but an interesting idea. Especially for an Iggle fan.

It's goo enough if nobody can figure out how to stop Rodgers. If someone can crack Rodgers then it's not good enough. GB certainly not a perfect team, but it's a QB game and if Rodgers keeps playing perfect then they will win.

Back in the day when they played real football, no.

Now that the nfl has turned to flag football, yeah it's good enough.

New England put up 14 in the SB....when somebody/anybody holds Rodgers to 14 this year then you let me know! Chicago has the worst field in the league and they know GB inside/out but the Pack still scored 27.

GB gives up alot of points because they take chances, jump routes, etc. It also gets them alot of turnovers like yesterday. My boy Peyton Manning might have 3 rings if the Colts weren't so in love with the Cover-2 glorified prevent defense. All it does is give up 8 minute drives atleast a couple times a game and let your offense grow cold. Green Bay has Rodgers throw a TD pass....blitz/press coverage and get a pick or worse case scenario then its a shootout against AR...good luck with that!
