MNF: Chiefs vs. Chargers Opening Thoughts

What about the opening line (Chargers -3.5), is it to high? Is the wrong team favored? Are either of these teams a real 'contender' in the AFC playoff picture?

    You're thoughts are appreciated!!!

Yeah I've been a Chargers fan for pretty much my entire life and any time there's a need for a 'Clutch' performance, they choke.

Take from that what you will.

SAN DIEGO "should have" rolled the JETS by dd instead of choking and losing.

The front page of the sports paper here in Las Vegas, from the LV review journal has the headline "Choking Chargers gift-wrap it for Jets"

That's exactly what the CHARGERS did. They put a f_ucking bow on the win and gave it to the JETS.

Last week was a travesty, but the CHARGERS will make it up to us this week and win by a TD+.

Once everyone starts shitting on the Chargers is exactly when you bet them, not when they are -14 and already in the superbowl before they ever play a game.

Chargers only beat the Chiefs by 3 in San Diego 4 weeks ago... and that was a horrible Chiefs team, no chemistry... they're playing much better ball now and at Arrowhead... this one will be close, either team by a field goal... so Chiefs 3.5 = safe bet.

How did they gift wrap it for the jets? There was a special teams touchdown jets mistake, a pick in thrown end zone thrown by the jets, a touchdown pass called back due to a hold pin the jets..., the jets gift wrapped the game for the chargers them took it back they are the superior team to the chargers

Jets were just the better team in that gm, period...although sd jumped out early, from 2nd qrtr on it was clear who the better team was imo..

tend to agree that they do bounce back this week but gonna wait on it as if anything line may get better..

Considering the chiefs almost beat the Chargers in San Diego a few weeks ago when they were a massive underdog it is a no play for me

"The choking chargers gift-wrap it for the Jets", by Matt Youmans, Las Vegas Review Journal

The CHARGERS are who we thought they were- chokers and underachievers- and that's why the JETS took the field. It's also why betting the CHARGERS in a big game is a gamble that can often blow up in your face.

With a 21-10 half time lead the CHARGERS offense packed it in as RIVERS threw two interceptions and led an embarrassingly lame two minute drill. "The Chargers came out and looked like they were going to put it on them" MGM resorts sportsbook director Jay Rood said. "No ones lead is safe. It's crazy how these teams fold the tent".

rivers matthews jackson gates are charger players
listed in top ten of espn's poll. chiefs had mr bowe listed in top ten. doesn't this poll count for something that the chargers have a better team? plus as a team ranking 10 to 22 ? it's a no better for me but believe chargers 'should' play better ball than Kansas City.

I lost with the Chargers last week and I like them again this week, so I guess I like pain. I simply do not think these two teams are equal, and in a game where a loss would leave the teams tied, the Chargers should stay focused and win comfortably. I wouldn't worry too much about the close game these teams had in San Diego because the Chargers had a lot of injuries then. Now, Gates, VJax and Matthews are finally all playing at the same time.

The public hears Chargers and thinks ‘over’ but with Rivers either hurt or slumping or both is this the week to think ‘low’. The Chiefs defense is on a tear right now and if their work against the Raiders last week is any indication, it could be tough sledding for the San Diego offense. What are your thoughts on the total and who has the QB edge in this one?

I could see an 'under' here because the Chiefs defend the pass better than the run so SD may rely on Matthews/Tolbert more than usual, and the Chiefs should use battle a lot in an attempt to shorten the game. And regardless of his slump, there is still no comparison when it comes to these QBs, it is Rivers by a mile. Rivers is one of the six elite QBs in the NFL (well five without Manning). You can put them in any order, but there is a severe drop-off after Rodgers, Brady, Manning, Brees, Rivers, Big Ben.

i am a lifelong Bolts fan and usually don't pick them to cover because--as i said in this week's Geno's Picks week 8 Video--playing in the AFC WEST IS LIKE BEING A LOHAN--YOU ONLY MAKE THE NEWS WHEN YOU DO SOMETHING STUPID AND YOU CAN'T BE TRUSTED AT HOME. The Bolts lost to a good caoch and a great defense last week and the Chiefs have neither. And that leads us to the one difference between the Lohan's and the AFC west... the AFC West will have NO WILD CARDS.

see my breakdown of this game and 4 others including the Pats-Steelers at and comment favorite pick? best line?

Huge Chargers fan here..we are overrated and poorly coached..Rivers hasn't looked good all year, making uncharacteristically poor decisions..our best Olineman is out for this game and possibly longer on an already suspect Oline...I like KC as much as it pains me to say it, hopefully my boys prove me wrong

As i tweeted and mentioned in my WEEK 8 PICKS
"I like the Chargers here because being a member of the AFC West is like being a member Lohan family--you only make the news when you do something stupid and you always embarrass yourself at home. The BOLTS lost last week to a good coach and a great defense and KC has neither which is why the bolts will win this game, this division, and why-unlike the lohan family-the AFC west won't have any wildcards this year.

please take five minutes to watch my always entertaining, occasionally accurate Geno's Picks for this week. Would love your feed back.. favorite joke? Dumbest Pick?

The Jets game is one thing but how about the games prior. Lets start with Miami when they were in SD, for a team that showed no sign of any kind of offense then were able to get 16 pts on the board. Denver, a team that completely sucks was able to rally back and almost win the game. Now what I'm getting at is that their Defense should be the main focus. Keep in mind that the Chargers as I remember were a solid 2nd half team. Oh that reminds me, every game vs the PATs they've always performed well except this year. So what if your QB throw a pick or 2, a great D steps up and bail their man out. I believe the coaching staff is still adjusting to the absent of Ron Rivera. In order for the Chargers to win Rivers would have to play a perfect game along with their banged up offensive starters. SD defense has given up 300+ yard on the ground in the last 2 games and of course the Chiefs has now found a way to mix the run and the passing game real well. Momentum play a big factor in sports and right now the fair weather Chargers team is definitely working against the wind. I wont be shocked when the Chiefs put out that little fire left in SD.
