    How are you betting?

    Hey everyone,

I'm slightly new to the betting world, and still trying to figure out the best way to be betting.

I have been wondering what the best way to proceed in terms of picking odds are:

When you are selecting bets are you:

    1. Looking more at bets in the range of -500 to -400

    2. Looking more at bets in the range of -125 to +100 and above?

Obviously option 1 is usually more safe, but say you bet $100 you would have to hit 4-5 succesful, before a miss wouldn't result in a negative balance. (But again, the chance of missing is likely lower)

Whereas option 2 you would only have to hit like 1 succesful to actually be insured against loss, and if you hit 2 you are sure to have made a profit even if your third should fail. (But again, the chance of missing is likely higher).

This is only looking at the short term, but in the long term, what would you guys do, and what does the pros do? What is the best road to success?

And last question: How many sportsbet do you guys (and pros) make weekly on an average basis? Would you sometimes go with only 1 or even none for a week?

no don't bet heavy favorite mls. if you're gonna bet them, put them in a parlay.

do some research, beat the spread, and try to get the best lines. gl

oh and if you want to take this seriously, you need a bank roll at least $10,000 and very disciplined.

bet spread, and only play your best play. I like to pick my 3 best ATS, and then hopefully hit 2. Again only play games you think the lines or odds are off

So you guys only play spreads or moneylines?

What about, in soccer, the underdog to score a goal at odds of like -400 to -300? I favourited these sportsbets because it's something that can happen any time during the 90 minutes, whereas a spread or moneyline you have to get it just right by the end of the game (and many things can happen during that period of time).

Or in NFL: The Chargers yesterday was at a point -111 to score 21 points or more, and I belive 24 points or more at +150 (Chargers scored 27).

Would you advice against playing these markets?

i do a little of everything. Every sport is different and every game should be looked at on a case by case basis.

    your question is very vague.

The handicapper think tank is a good place to read up on stuff like this

The key is to bet where you see an edge.

    Everyone has a different style.

My style is i am a parlay bettor from $20-$100 and i will not place a straight wager unless i can put atleast
$200 on it. My max bet is $1,000

laying -400 will get you trouble in the long run. Even though its okay to bet the occasional -200 favorite more often than not bet spreads and lay -110.

    We all start somewhere.

And whatever field you're going into, I believe that you can learn from those that have been there longer than you.

    So yes. Advise doesn't hurt.

Trying to induce a new poster who doesn't know any better to tail your trainwreck picks (which are a self-admitted trainwreck since you recently said you have never had a winning year gambling).

    Not cool.

It's all really about discovering what works for you.

Some people are good at betting parlays with a few -500 or up lines to amount to +100 or so. Some people are good at just straight betting. Some people are good at flatbetting, some people have a particularly good feel for some games and are good "big play" bettors. And obviously everyone is good at different sports and it isn't always the ones you think. It's always good to learn from people who know what they're doing too when you're new to this. A good start would be not believeing anything this clown Seaweed says.

Start out betting small and find out what your bread and butter is would be my advice.

Unless you are an idiot, bet ml's, totals, parlays, spreads, and props to see where you stand initially and what you are best at betting. Learn from losing and remember your losses will help you in the future.

If you bet in bulk, bet ATS.

If you bet spots, bet that spot regardless of juice.

heres a tip I learned this year…always bet agains Bradys line. He'll never cover it.

but in all seriousness maybe start on lines…pick a sport or two and stick with it. example I started online halfway through this years NCAA football…I know football so I am in NFL right now which is a little harder to predict it seems as the phrase "any given sunday".

I also started paying a lot of attention to NCAAB and that will roll into the early middle of next year where I will test my luck in MLB and then back to football in the fall. Ive always been a football guy, picked up what I know in basketball from reading.

Don't just straight laying every bet you see posted on here…it'll get you in circles…learned that the hard way...

OH….AND STAY OFF THE CASINO………….the odds are a little funny.

Always lay to win 1 unit or bet a dog to win 1 unit. I usually stick with spreads or MLs very close to pk. This way you are basically flipping coins. I dont think I ever lay -140 and up but I will take a flyer on larger dog MLs, but always aiming just to win a unit.

If you're just starting I suggest playing at one of those free to play sites or using points here.
Get a grasp of what you're trying to do and see how well you do before actually dropping some real money on it if you are going to take this seriously.

Yes just track your bets without betting, when you find that you have saved enough by not betting to afford both of the above. Go for it.

Seriously not trying to bust your chops here.. however.. there are apps/games on Facebook that simulate sportbooks using pretend money. They use real spreads and are great practice for how everything works as well as what most lack in the gambling world, myself included, DISCIPLINE.
