John Pelphrey fired as Arkansas head coach

Arkansas has fired coach John Pelphrey after four seasons with the Razorbacks, the school said Sunday.
"I want to thank John and his staff for their hard work and dedication to the Razorback program," athletic director Jeff Long said in a statement. "I am appreciative of their efforts on behalf of the University of Arkansas."
Arkansas finished fourth in the SEC West this season. Pelphrey has three years remaining on his contract and will be paid a negotiated buyout, a source close to the situation told ESPN.com.
Pelphrey signed the No. 7 recruiting class in November according to ESPN.com's annual rankings.

Long said a national search would begin immediately. The school called a 6 p.m. news conference to address the program's future.
"After a thorough and comprehensive evaluation of our men's basketball program, including an assessment of the overall student-athlete experience within our program, it is clear that we have not made the progress over the last four years that is necessary to return Razorback Basketball to a place of national relevance." Long said in the news release. "As a program, our initial goals are to challenge for Southeastern Conference championships, compete in the NCAA tournament and support our student-athletes in the pursuit of a degree. Our program's tradition demonstrates those goals are certainly attainable at the University of Arkansas."
Pelphrey, a former Kentucky player and Florida assistant on coach Billy Donovan's staff, came to Arkansas from South Alabama.
Pelphrey was not the first choice when he was hired. Then-Creighton coach Dana Altman took the Arkansas job and held a news conference before going back to Creighton. Altman is now the head coach at Oregon.
Arkansas is expected to go after Missouri coach Mike Anderson, a former assistant under Nolan Richardson when he won the national title in 1994.
If Anderson turns the job down, Marquette coach Buzz Williams, who has Arkansas ties, is expected to be high on Long's list. If they can't land Williams, the Hogs will look for another established head coach.
Arkansas is willing to pay a high dollar amount to compete with Kentucky and Florida in the SEC. Arkansas has long been considered the job with the second-most passionate basketball fan base in the SEC behind Kentucky.

I disagree with this decision. Teams need to chill. Just think if duke would of fired Coach K after his 4th year. Pelphrey was going to have the 7th top class next year for freshman with alot of freshman and sophomores.

He will be a head coach somewhere next season.
