Wisconsin-Milwaukee senior guard Smith suspended indefinitely
MILWAUKEE -- Senior guard Avery Smith, who led Wisconsin-Milwaukee in scoring last season with a 15.5 average, has been suspended indefinitely for violating team rules.
Coach Rob Jeter announced the suspension Thursday, about 30 minutes before the Panthers played Wisconsin-Parkside in their first exhibition game this season.
Jeter said Smith was suspended for "a violation of team rules." He would not elaborate.
"As a head coach, I strive to give my players every opportunity and chance to succeed," he said. "But, with the season starting tonight, I need to concern myself with the progress of the entire team and not just one individual."
