Question about NCAA Basketball Walk Ons

If you are not on the stats roster are you considered a practice player

So this guy said he walked on at a division 1 school. But when I looked up his stats for the year he said he played he was not on the roster. So doesn't that make you a practice player and not a walk on

Otters he was just trying to get in your pants bro. In my early 20’s I used to tell broads I was the backup kicker for the University of Utah. Worked everytime.

you can be on the roster as a walk on or even a scholarship player and never get in a game or record any stats, doesn't mean you weren't on the roster and dressed for games.

but I bet this guy is just blowing smoke. see if you can google around for team photos or player biographies from that team and year. Include coach name or other prominent players from that year in the searches if you still get nothing

other things to try would be googling his name, the high school or hometown, and the school/team he said he walked-on at, if it's a small town it would have made the local newspaper, that he made the team, or that he was planning to walk on.

maybe he was invited as a preferred walk on but didn't make the team, got redshirted or injured and didn't rejoin the team the next year.

way back when .....my roommate was a walk-on UGA football

he never played but got to dress for some home games

technically i think that is on the team

i think the coach would rotate players to dress

somehow every school has a white lineup of bench warmers whose only job is to be cheerleaders at the end of the bench

Are you talking years ago or 2020-2021

Because these past two years have been strange for NCAA due to COVID.

This past year, if you were redshirted, had an injury, etc., you could not dress nor be on the sidelines (postseason games). You had to sit in the stands. Some schools/conferences elected to do this for the regular season as well. Therefore, you are removed from "active roster." However, you were still considered to be on the team and would show up on the teams roster on their website. You would also participate in practices and travel with the team if the team chose to do so.
