Ever gonna see a 16 seed win?
North Carolina -26 vs. TXSO
Gonzaga -22 vs. SDST
Villanova and Kansas awaiting the two worse 16 seeds who win the play-in games.
Are we ever gonna see it? A 20+ point underdog winning in basketball is extremely rare, and it has to happen in only a four time a year window.
Sometimes the 16 seeds aren't quite 20 point dogs, for recent history you could see Coastal Carolina vs. UVA or Southern vs. Gonzaga, but it seems like this will definitely not happen this season.

Yes, so long as big conferences get to play in the play-in games, there will be one beaten..
USC and WF can both beat a one seed. Obviously, not a lot, but 2-4/100 maybe.
If they continue to play the shit american league teams, then no, it won't happen.
Depends how long you live, but yes. Maybe not this year, but it will happen. Unless the Sun explodes, or something along those lines.

Since all these podunk leagues get auto bids for winning their conference tournaments I doubt it will ever happen. Most of the #1 worst bench players, that never get in the game, would be starters for the teams they are facing. Its basically walk-ons vs McDonald All-Americans sprinkled with NBA players.
That's a good point there. Even if the 1 seed's starters are playing terribly and the 16 seed has its key players playing the game of their lives, any one of the bench players could play somewhat decently against the low-major's bench and put the blue bloods ahead. 30 second shot clock now makes it harder too because if you theoretically milk almost the entire clock every position you could take 2-3 minutes off the clock that would have otherwise been played and could have been an 8-0 run for the top dogs, not that anybody ever plays that meticulously with the shot clock or consistently gets quality shots by working the clock down to the last second.
That and the mid major teams in these matchups have little to no size. They have to shoot the lights out because they will get destroyed on the glass. Most of these schools only have 1 maybe 2 players that can even create shots for themselves and won't be able to get many second chance points which makes it very difficult against teams that are going to dominate scoring in the paint and have multiple shot attempts off offensive boards. Several teams over the years have kept it close for awhile because they shoot the 3 well but to do that for 40 minutes is near impossible. Many of these teams average in the 50s or 60s and are playing teams that score in the high 70s and 80s against top competition let alone teams that are out matched and under sized.

If you mean to win a game then assume most of these 16 seeds are around +2000 to 3000 ML, say 95% to lose then
81% chance all 4 lose this year.

Well UNC is favored by as many points as Texas Southern's lame offense probably averages so I highly doubt that lol

Yes sometimes the #2's are better than the 1s and the 16s are better than the 15s so just a matter of time. Remember one time Memphis was only -9 as a one seed against a real tough Oakland team.
I am sure if and when happens, RobbieStacks will post after the game how he was all over that moneyline and how easy it was.

You would think with the advent of the 3 point shot that it would have already happened but the size and skill level differential is still pretty glaring. It really would take the perfect storm. Most 1's also have the benefit of playing in favorable venues. If the 1's had to go play on the road in a hostile environment where the crowd gets behind the underdog it could happen one day.

In theory, yes, it should happen.
But although there is parity in college basketball, especially within the middle seeds and higher seeds, there is no semblance of parity between a 1 and 16, the future nba'ers want to play for the big name schools and coaches, and those aren't the 16's.
So of course, chance will happen eventually but it may come around as often as JJ getting laid
How manny times has 2 beaten 15. I remember Ga. Tech losing to Southern one year.

There's been a few close calls. You'd probably need something like a star player getting hurt for most of the year then coming back or a team catching fire from 3.
Many of the one seeds have been on the ropes in the past. It's not like every game is 20 points plus. Michigan St won a game in overtime, Georgetown and Purdue won games by 1 point. There's been a few others.
It'll happen because of the one and done rule. Eventually a team full of seniors will beat a team of 18yo McAA's that are counting down the days to get their signing bonus.
Good point with team catching fire from the three. That could go both ways with the 1 seed that feeds off 3's and being off of their 3's. I could see best shot coming from a 16 with a solid defense, good rebounding, and a top 50 scorer that doesn't get into foul trouble getting out to an early lead and playing a bad rebounding small size jump shooting team that's off.
"ever" is a long time
I suppose it will happen one year with the perfect storm of poor talent and injuries littering the field.
Not sure why they put these worthless 16 seeds in....teams like Syracuse get left out by teams that beat sister Mary school of the blind a couple times of year.

It would be nice to see them get left out. This is a business and it would be better without them. A few extra play-in games wouldn't hurt, make the 16 seeds actually earn their spot.
