Kansas State Write-Up

LAY THE WOOD WITH KANSAS STATE

Week To Date - 16-17-1 (-0.60 units)

Had a winning day yesterday picking up +2.40 units but totally choked down the stretch dropping my 8 unit tennis play and another 4.40 units on the over in the Vermont/Syracuse game, not to mention 2.20 units more on Vermont, so lost a total of 14.60 units in the night cap that cut into my very profitable day. I am pissed to say the least and Friday actually feels like a losing day because of dumping back all those profits with a piss poor night performance. I was feeling great after the 20 unit play on Wofford came through, which they should have won outright, but now just disgusted with how the night unfolded. On to Saturday, need to get shit back on track if I'm going to show a profit for six of the past seven weeks, but by far this week has been the most stressful with all the roller-coaster rides.

Saturday's Play - Kansas State -4 10U

The line opened up at 3.5 but is currently sitting at 4 at almost every book with a little more of the action coming in on BYU, I don't expect much more movement in this line so going to grab it at 4.

Kansas State

Offense

The Wildcats are 27-7 overall this season and a combined 13-4 in away/neutral site games. They produced a 13-6 conference mark in what I believe to be the toughest conference in the nation, the Big 12. In their 8 neutral site games they averaged 79 points per game on 46 percent shooting from the field, 39 percent from deep, and 64 percent from the line. In their 9 true road games, they averaged 79 per game on 47 percent from the field, 44 percent from deep, and 69 percent from the line. I have no concerns that the Wildcats will have trouble putting up points, I expect them to hold suite with their season averages but I'm more focused on the other side of the ball because that's where I feel this game will be won.

Defense

In their 9 road games, they allowed an average of 73 points per game on 43 percent from the field and 31 percent from deep. In many conferences 73 against per game is awful but with the caliber of teams in the Big 12, these numbers are not as bad as they seem and the Wildcats have shown on different occasions that they can hold high powered offenses like Kansas in the low 70s. On neutral site games, 8 total, the Wildcats allow an average of 72 per game on 43 percent shooting from the field and 33 percent from deep. I'm focused on the 3 point numbers, 31 percent in true road games and 33 percent in neutral site games, so we'll meet in the middle at 32 percent; not a bad percentage against (especially in the Big 12). I feel the Wildcats will be able to contain BYU on the offensive end and force them into tough shots. In addition, the Wildcats are coming off a great defensive showing where they held North Texas to just 62 points on 31 percent from the field and 26 percent from deep.

BYU

As for BYU, they are coming off an overtime win over Florida where they allowed the Gators to put up 92 points on 44 percent shooting from the field and 31 percent from deep. Aside from the match-ups, statistical angles, team chemistry, and the many other factors to why I like the Wildcats in this spot, BYU had to fight hard in the opening round going to overtime with a Florida club that should not even have been invited to the dance. I'm not playing a fatigue factor here because these are 18-22 year old kids and its the big dance so they have plenty of energy to use up, I'm just saying that of the two clubs, the Wildcats have the advantage in freshness.

Finally, I'm not knocking the Mountain West because I have given them praise all year, mostly New Mexico at home and BYU in general, but let's not forget that it is no Big 12 and the Big 12 is clearly showing in this year's tourney that they are the dominant conference. In addition, I have future plays on the Wildcats reaching the Final Four and also winning the entire tourney, a long shot yes, but very capable at the same time. I see no reason why my mind should chance now, after all IMO they looked the most impressive of any other club I watched in the opening round holding a good North Texas offense to just 62 points. This club can play on both ends of the court and I cannot say that for the majority of teams in this tourney and that is a major reason why I am so high on them.

I'm leaning under 154.5 because I expect K St to clamp down on the D end and defend against the 3 ball but feel laying the 4 is the much stronger play in this spot. What are you thinking in this one?

Yeah you are right K state had the best showing off all teams on day one, and i also expect them to go up double digits to a BYU team that struggled against a poor Florida team. But you have to remember BYU aint no scrubs thursday could of been an off game for them maybe?

I hope buddy, would get an extra 3 units on the ML because I played it for a 1/2 unit. Their defense is tough and I don't see them letting up, think they get it done.

I would take it, along with a nice 3U cash on today's ML, it would really help my KST future plays out, I got KST winning it all anyways, and I always like to root for these big upsets even if it messes up my brackets.
