    Gregg Marshall

is he staying at WSU until UNC or Duke open up?.. or would he take something like UCLA first?

There was a lot of talk about Bama and Texas trying to get him a year a go for big bucks, but the Wichita State Shockers basketball facilities etc are funded by the Soro's Brothers who do all that political funding crap. Apparently they made sure there was money to match anything he was offered

    Koch brothers, yeah

thing is, he's cycled through his strong senior class now. let's say he stays and they end up missing the tourney the next 2 years for example.. his name kinda starts getting buried a bit for the blue blood jobs.

Yeah, not sure what that team looks like without Van Vleet and Baker. And even with them, they still eeked into the tournament. Marshall was whining about how low their seed was, when he was a loss away form the NIT. Just be like Gonzaga, world-beaters when ranked low, and dogshit when ranked high.

Is UCLA even a super desirable job these days? Moreso than say a Wisconsin or even a St. Johns? Does what happened in 1975 even factor in anymore?

Ucla be a perfect fit! Nice as Duke or Unc may look not easy following a legend in your 1st big gig with all that expectation. Smart move not taking the shit Bama job but Bruins be a great fit and chance to bring a once great powerhouse back to real relevance.

Wich as healthy as they've been all season. Frankamp has finally showed up after being quiet all season. If he keeps up the shooting and Baker finds his 3 ball, this team can make the final four again...

if UNC and/or Indiana lose soon, i could see both throwing the kitchen sink at Marshall through back channels.. especially IU.

UNC has those ongoing investigations (plus they'd have to push Roy out), so that could get complicated. but on paper, they're the best fit for Marshall because he's from the Carolinas and his wife played ball in the area too.

IU - Crean's just not liked and their donors and fan base would go nuts for Marshall. and he's the type of guy who would relish being there. if Kentucky beats them Saturday, it would be a more convenient divorce right now than a potential UNC/Roy split.

as for UCLA, they have a clueless wimp for an AD and virtually no HCA despite renovations. it's a crappy job with respect to some of the intangibles. no doubt, a huge underdog for his services at first glance. however, it's still top recruiting ground and Marshall knows he could dominate that horribly underachieving conference and re-build the fan base in no time. honestly, he could OWN that soft conference for the foreseeable future.. talking consistent top-3 seed each year in the tourney. question is, would SoCal spotlight interest him and family?.. and could the inept UCLA administration actually sign him?

why would anyone want the ucla job?? The basketball kids that go there now are not the most desirable kids. The atmosphere is wicked distracting for them so you never see them focused and the fans never come. That stadium is empty all the time even when they were decent

I think if Wichita St makes a deep run this year he is gone. Cash in while he is hot. Best senior class will be leaving. No need to stick around. UCLA is UCLA. You can recruit too notch talent at UCLA. All the good mid major coaches eventually leave. Brad Stevens, Shaka Smart, etc.

Problem is, a lot of those guys stayed longer than we thought they would. They held out for the big money and it worked. Does Marshall even have that kind of opportunity this coming year?

I don't think he even needs a blue blood job to win titles. I think he could kill it at somewhere like Memphis, Texas, etc. those level jobs

if Indiana loses to Kentucky, you've got to think they'll immediately be in touch with Marshall's agent. and they'll pay that $4M/per. Miami could handle WSU and IU would still make that move.

UCLA job of course would be 'open' if Marshall actually wanted it, but that's harder to see despite Marshall probably realizing he could own that horrific conference. in the end, just very hard to trust UCLA's admin getting the job done unless they got a legit AD.

Marshall basically said in the past only UNC, Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, UCLA, Indiana would be worth considering.

What's Louisville situation next year? Should be plenty of good jobs opening soon and certainly better than last year's. It was a no brainer to turn down Bama and coming back for Van and Baker probably was a huge draw for their senior years. At some point it just gets too hard staying with a program you can never win a title with and jumping to a bigger scene. Let's be honest folks the mid major stories are nice but there is a limit and final 4 yeah, but ncaa does not want and won't make it easy for these schools advancing and repping in a final.

So many other advantages with bigger fish as well with being seen tv time, better competition, better recruits , more $, better legacy if you succeed on and on. Not a matter of "IF" he leaves but when....

Coach K, Roy Williams, Calapari and Bill Self are not going anywhere anytime soon. I can see him going to Indiana if they fire their coach for under achieving.

He should make the Bruins relevant again. I think tat posted that Edney coast 2 coast and I remember that. I'm sure the shockers would hate to lose him but RP makes valid points.

IU's win over UK probably keeps Crean safe now.. but who knows, if they were to get humiliated by UNC for example, maybe IU would still make a move.

what's certain is, at least for the next week, UCLA can have Marshall's undivided attention (if they're not too busy twiddling their thumbs).

while it's definitely not all about the money for Marshall, UCLA would have to offer at least $4M for him to begin considering. he's making $3M now, but is underpaid and CA taxes need to be considered. $4M current standard for a great coach and the $5/$6M range is for elite guys with titles. IMO, Marshall is elite and almost had a title. UCLA might have to offer ~$4.5M to get the deal done if need-be.

that's just the financial side though, which would be easier to work through compared to what needs to be fixed in UCLA's athletic department and school admin.

I had no idea Crean was that disliked. Clueless.

Word is, UNLV has been considering making a play for Underwood for weeks. He needs to stop winning, his value is going up too high.
