Books Got Hammered Today - No Question About It

2 Significant NCAA basketball games... both favorites won.

    Ugly Sunday for them.

A lot of wagers world wide.

Bad days for the LV books are never as bad as they seem because some of those winnings invariably get sunk back in.

You also had a 7 seeded fav so it may have helped stem the tide of money going on MSU. Could see a lot of people seeing a lot of value on the other side of that game

Bettors in general, but especially Vegas bettors give a lot of that back with parlays, square NBA bets and bad in-game wagering. Never forget that.

But for today, I'm sure they took a minus.

And they probably got it right back with the Spurs and Pacer game. Trust me, gamblers like to double down. Those people that won on Michigan State and Duke were probably feeling on top of the world and shot a good amount of it on the Grizzlies.

Judging by the number of Gonzaga threads I saw, I dont think the Duke game was all that bad. Plus, the under hit in that game. I'm sure Mich St was bad though.

Almost everyone on this forum had the Zags, with some as their "bet of the year."

    just trying to help nash

squares win in baseball much more often than football and basketball.

baseball games are rarely fixed and umpires are held to a much higher standard in MLB than in other leagues.

Just heard Jimmy Vaccaro on the radio today say that the books didn't get hit that bad. Some guy at Lucky's would have won $60K if Gonzaga would have won outright.

People need to quit imagining what they think happens to the books. It's usually nowhere near that. Then they ignore parlays, futures, in-game, things like that where the books have enormous advantages every time.

Some of you think I'm being a dick when I bring these things up, but it really is in your best interest to not be so dumb about this stuff.

And 60K is nothing to the book.

Yeah, it was just an example. The Zags ML bet was more popular than people think.

I'm just basing everything on a "reasonable" wagering estimate... from a novice gambler. Such as...

    1. Very soft favorites.

    2. Sunday (heavy gambling day)

    3. Only 2 games really worth wagering on...

    4. The volume of wagering on this day was extremely high. (NCAA Tournament - Elite 8)

    5. The inexperience gambler typically takes soft favorites.

I understand it's hard to destroy Vegas/books... But they had to take a significant dent yesterday. If I owned one... I'd be pretty pissed off at the moment. Yes, they'll get it back... but for one day... has to be a pretty bad loss.

I would only imagine 70% was on Michigan State...

And close to 70% on Duke.

Books had one of their biggest profits from the first two days of the tournament. A ton of underdogs covered, something close to 70%. Public lost their ass, they are still eating off those two days.

And that's exactly what they talked about on the radio today, and the books said it still wasn't all that bad. No significant dent after they factored everything in. Plus, there's a hidden benefit you get when you obtain x amount of brand new bettors (and sometimes future degens), from having days where there are more winners than loser by number on a popular betting day.

Makes you think, if bookmakers are looking at a day like that as an overall positive, that's pretty scary.

    OK I apologize.
California is anal like that? Or is the system.
I know there are five states that won't let you play fantasy.
Shit, US is sitting on a gazillion dollars in taxable revenue if they would only legalize the poker, the fantasy (which is legal in 45 states) and sports betting.

They keep giving us the same line of garbage "it'll suck in the non gamblers that don't gamble now"
The fuk it will, same as if they leagloze heroin, they claim it will turn everybody into junkies.
Hey, if you legalize heroin tommorrow, I'm still not going 100 feet near the dope.
