    TheKoreanMang's NBA/NCAAB 2013-2014 Picks

    Hey guys,

I'm new on SBR but I started reading everyone's threads pretty regularly since Wednesday of last week and I found that everyone has been really helpful. I've taken a kind of aggregator type of approach because while I love sports, I'm just not so good at making picks on my own. However, based upon all the picks you guys have posted up on SBR, looking at stats, line movements, public betting trends, and the like, I feel like I've been able to produce a somewhat better than average system.

I started last week Mon/Tue with a 12-17-1 record and down about $1400. Since incorporating SBR into my approach, I went 8-1 on Wed, 20-16-1 on Thu, 21-13-1 on Fri, 25-20-1 on Sat, and 19-15 on Sun. My overall record since December 2013 is 293-303-5 (49.2%). I didn't really know about betting in units and all that until recently so I haven't kept track of that. Sorry.

However, what I will say is that I've bet 1U ($100) on pretty much on every single bet and I made back about a little more than $1700 combined on Wed-Sun. One caveat: I upped the ante of my bets anywhere from 1U to 4U yesterday just because I wanted to be up and it was the last day of March Madness for a few days so I thought it would be my best chance to get positive because of so much information and so many opinions out there on these games. This actually worked and I left the day a little more than $800 up on the day.

Today, I doubled the value of my units to $200, so while I'm still betting 1U on every bet I made today, I figure that if I continue to keep my bets the same I'll be up if I retain a 55% hit rate or so. Since Wed to Sun, I've gone 93-66-4 (58%).

Ok, so why am I sharing all of this? So long already I know. My badz. I figure I'd start posting the bets I make as a sort of SBR public service. Again, these aren't really my picks. These are all of yours and while I'm still trying to figure out who's the best of the best I have some early favorites who have been grabbing my attention whenever they post. Props to LT Profits (I especially like your articles), skin24, max58, and leetreaper. I know some/all of you guys either hate or respect each other but I think all of you guys are great so far. But pretty much if you're posting a pick on here, I'm reading it and working it into my considerations. Anyway, enough is enough.

Here's today's picks that I liked from SBR and my own research. Arkansas +3 is my only 1.5U bet everything else is 1U ($200). Watch me bomb completely today just because I decided to make this thread. Anyway, I hope this is helpful to at least some of you. If no one reads this, that's fine too. I just needed something to do while my class drones on (last semester of law school). Let's win today! Yay!

Here's how we did. Went 12-4 in NBA, but 2-11 in NCAA. Overall went 14-15. Not what I'm looking for at all but my mistake was moving on NCAAB picks that I had no idea about. I literally just followed based on what I read, which wasn't all that much. Makes sense because there's less info on these teams. No one really cares about non-tourney games and the few who do speak up about them are fewer and farther in between. Ended -$386.07. Anyway, we try again tomorrow.

Ferreal. I listened to those people!

Shouldn't have chased NBA and NCAAB. New Rule: If chasing, only chase a known commodity. In this case that would be NBA. I know jack about Arkansas/Cal.

Why were you chasing when you were up on the day? Chasing is what kills someone who might otherwise be a winner. Believe me, I know. And its maths too. Chasers always lose.

Yeah man I know. I'll live bet a little bit to make up for earlier bad picks. Sometimes I think I can adjust my position mid-game successfully like I did with the live MIL+9 and U207 picks in NBA, which both made up for the earlier LAC-16 (netted $180). But then I chased on a much less known commodity in Arkansas/Cal. Sometimes earlier confidence inflates my thinking of what I can actually do, which is not non-tourney NCAA games. Haha. Stupid.

Also, I bet NCAA just b/c I had earlier success from it from the tourney and a handful of non-tourney games too. And, it was my NBA picks that was actually closer to .500. Oh wellz. New day today. Although much less games. Thinking about going smaller.

Day 2 went like this with a few bets remaining:

    3/25/14 Tue NCAAB: O135 Belmont/Clemson (-150 BO), 7PM - V BEL 68 CLEM 73 Won $200
    SBR NCAAB: Belmont +7 (-110 BO), 7PM " Won $200

    PGF NBA: DAL +3.5 (-120 BO) OKC 119 DAL 128 Won $200

    NBA: 3-6 LIVE NBA: U227 OKC/DAL (-130 BO) " Lost $130 $1,050.18
LIVE NBA: DAL PK (+105 BO) " Won $200 $1,250.18
    Tha Reaper NBA: 1H NYK -4 (-105 BO) 210 to win 200
PGF NBA: LAL +7.5 (-110 BO) 220 to win 200
    NBA: O216 NY/LAL (-110 BO) 220 to win 200

If it wasn't for my stupidass friend (Fred) I wouldn't have placed the O204 POR/ORL bet after I had already placed the U204 bet on the same game. It's the third time where I've reversed a bet by going the other way and I've lost all of those "second thought" bets. I need to listen to my gut the first time and stop trying to erase my initial answers. Never works!

Today, I kept the value of 1U at $200. What I think hurt me (other than just making bonehead picks) is that I bought more points than I wanted and I think I should really limit myself to paying -120 on any one pick. If I don't like something at -110, I think I should just let it go. With this sort of picking system, I really can't afford to lose -130 and up. Too much juice and not enough wins to clean it up once it's spilled at a 55% rate.

Anyway, went 4-0 on NCAA picks today. Thank you to Skin24, leetreaper, robbeduagain, and whoever else who picked Belmont. Thank you to Tham12 for the Minnesota pick. Also, I read some service play thread from the Philly God Father (PGF). Never heard of him until today and he's 2-0 so far. Thanks to cardsnation05 for posting his picks tonight.

Tomorrow's a new day. Hopefully it brings more fortune than today and yesterday. Thanks for your time and picks guys.

All right! Hit the last four picks of the night and ended in the black! Not by much but any gain is still a gain. Phew! I also started counting units for today and although I went 12-7, I'm only up 1U. Hopefully tomorrow is better!

Buying 2/3 points on bball totals is something I would advise against. Don't quote me on this, but you have to hit near or >60% with -150 lines. Plus if you go back and review your bets, the ones where you did buy points it did not matter and the ones you did, it was still not even close. You might hit one occasionally by doing that, but in the long run it is not the best idea. One basket is not worth .40 BOL to you mang!

Yeah. Agreed. Not doing that no more. Just gotta play the lines where they are. That way I'd have to lose 10x to wipe away 1U worth of win.

Wow. I'm one crazy mofo. I just laid out $4K in bets with most bets at 1U (tonight 1U is $100 instead of the $200 that I used the past two nights). Everything is in NCAA and NBA, with one bet in NHL (NYR ML). Below is my action for the night.

For first two games that have 2U on them, I made a mistake and placed a double bet at differing lines. I placed 2U on 1H BOS +1.5 because it's a POUND IT pick from Tha Reaper (who apparently is hitting 60% of his 1H picks thus far. Thanks for turning me onto him mcdonae1!). I have 3U on NYK -2 tonight because two of the systems I follow have them as a pick tonight (Chad Smith's Sports Betting Star and Grinder12000's system). I also watched the NY/LAL game last night (of which I hit all 4 of my bets on and saved my night!) and I just can't see my Knickies playing like that again. I know I know. Don't bet on your fave teams. But, can't help it tonight.

    Here we go!

    3/26/14 Wed NCAAB: U134/U133.5 Illinois St/Siena (-110 BO), 7PM 220 to win 200

That's what I'm talking about! Went up 8.92 Units tonight alone! Each unit was worth $100 tonight. The past two nights the units were worth $200. After a day of positive earnings, I try to scale back a bit but maybe I should've kept it the same! The problem really would've been the small size of my bankroll. I wouldn't have had enough money to make the amount of bets I did. There's the possibility that I could've made bets as the night went on but then there's the whole issue about moving lines, odds, and the lost time with my wife (had to watch Anchorman 2 instead of the MIA/IND game). Lulz.

Anyway, I've been going back to calculate my units for the picks since I started using SBR as an integral part of my research and I'll post an update as to how I'm doing. Hopefully my sheets can be a kind of guide to the novice bettor using SBR to scan what people are thinking. While most of the spread/moneyline bets are bets I get from SBR and other places, most of the O/U bets are mine and what I think based upon line movements, public betting trends, general NBA knowledge, and some light statistical analysis.

Here are my results for tonight:

you know if you couldnt cover $200 on that number of bets with your bankroll you will go bust - even if the bets are profitable as you will hit a losing streak(probably) which will wipe you out.

It's true. Which is why I brought it back down to $100. I'll probably retain the same unit value for tomorrow and for the rest of the week. It's much less stressful and if I want to put more than 1U on a play it's hard for me to go up in increments of $200 instead of $100.

    What do you do?

Go broke regularly as I cant follow my own advice

I bet fairly flat bet bigger when theres one I really like.
But look, if you are going to do this systematically trying out the theory that the consensus on here beats the book, then betting flat - with a low percentage of your bankroll is the only way to do it. If you have $5k then each bet should be $50 - 1%. As I said, otherwise there is a high likelihood you will go broke - even if the theory you are testing is profitable in the long run.

Thanks for the tip. What you say is true. Going down to 1% is probably the better idea but I'm already used to betting $100 as my floor bet comfortably. Anything less and I suspect that I may take my bets less seriously and maybe lose more money overall. $100 is kind of a sweet spot for me right now especially b/c I'm devoting a lot of time to this endeavor so I want it to be at least worthwhile. Even at $100 I'm feeling like it's too low. There was a time and place only a few months ago where I followed some interweb handicapper and got up $13K betting only one or two games a night and betting huge amounts. I was betting $1K-$4K like it was no big deal. Of course, it didn't end well.

Going about it in this new process of betting smaller, flatter amounts over time is a kind of rehab for me to develop a more consistent, less stressful, and hopefully a more sustainably profitable stream instead of looking for that typhoon of cash.

I'm already up quite a bit from last Wed. Only 8 days or so, but I'm making a crap ton of bets on the daily so I think the sample size is sufficient to tell me that SBR contributors are fairly sharp. Of course, there are a lot of conflicting opinions and that's where my gut and my own research comes into play.

Anyway, appreciate the insight. That's one of the things I love about SBR. People have opinions/info and share them freely.

Thats the gamblers contradiction. You want to bet enough so it makes a difference, but betting that much means you may well go broke.
Betting 5% of your initial bank with a 55% win rate @110 means you will go broke ~20% of the time. Betting 2% you hardly ever will.

Great job yesterday! To hop into the conversation, all depends on your bankroll. If you can constantly be in the plus money with flat bets stick to it. I will tell you what I, and a lot of other cappers, do just for some food for thought. I am in college and have no job, so keep that in mind. My small plays are 30, medium 50, and large 100. If you pick your spots with the larger bets you don't have to hit at such a high clip. It could also go the other way. Today I have 5 @30, 3 @50, and 1 @100. Yesterday I went 2-2, but made money because my two losses were 30 and my two wins were 50. I see you are following some posters, which can be a good thing or a bad thing. Hopefully you are picking up on some of their angles to improve your capping skills and it is also real nice when someone goes on a hot streak and you are tailing. It can also be a bad thing, especially if you blindly follow people without doing your own capping. One thing I would like to ad because it seems like a common thing on these threads. When you tail someone, YOU are making that decision. So please refrain from bashing someone if you lose some money tailing. You seem like a good guy. So I am not suggesting you will do that, but losing money sucks and brings the worst out of people. I am going to message you one more thing that I cannot say on here. BOL today!
