If you ever need a reason to avoid totals forever
Anyone watch this Nebraska/Baylor game? Huskers incessantly fouling down 12-15 for the last three minutes of the game. A bunch of meaningless points traded back and forth. Finishes at 134, or two points over. 89 points in the second half after 45 in the first. Baylor goes 38 of 48 at the line.

Mad? I didn't bet it, no. But I was watching the game -- last 3-4 minutes was a total waste of time. There were 15 points in the last minute and a half of a 15-point game. That's the exact reason I've sworn off totals forever, and why all of you should too.Originally Posted by intriguing

I know some folks love betting totals and do well doing so. I'm not a fan. Feels like I'm always on the losing side and I end up tilting on both teams instead of the normal of tilting on the 1 team that is playing their way out of me making money.
Had a buddy that slammed the under and didn't even think about it until I saw this post because of how low scoring it was in the 1st half.

There's a very good reason why sportsbooks typically allow you to bet totals for only about 25% of what you can lay on spreads. They're extremely beatable, but require a different approach.
Also, the final score was only 5 points off the closing total. Even if the scoring was heavier in the second half, that's not really that unusual in hoops or football... Hardly an unusual outcome.

It's not unusual for this in the college game because of the 35 second shot clock, you have to start fouling early.
Sometimes teams do it when they're down 10-15 which is annoying.
Regardless of betting, it just kills the game as a spectacle.
After a team has committed 15 fouls the other team should get three shots....
I think if you are gonna mess around with totals. It would seem like its best to just stick with team totals

I'm just making an observation about the game - and a way to even things out is to play the halves too. And it has zero to do with handicapping. Its about a conscious decision of a coach on the night to decide to foul down. Handicapping goes out the window then - thats the point.

totals are way more beatable then the spread but the "bad" beats on totals are usually worse.
