Thursday's Sports Betting Line Moves and Today’s Top Trends
By Doug Upstone
There has been a number of line moves of the smaller variety on sides action today on teams North Texas, Cleveland State and Portland to name a few, but the focus here is on the bigger ones of the day. Like we say every day, understanding line moves can build your bankroll.
NBA – (501) BROOKLYN at (502) CHICAGO 8:00 E TNT
This doesn’t happen every day, a game involving the Bulls having a rising total. Chicago as you might not know is the top UNDER team in the NBA at 31-19-1, yet the total has been bumped up from 183 to 184.5. Those betting basketball must feel the number was over compensated for despite the fact the Bulls are 12-2 UNDER at home game when the total is between 180 and 189.5 points this season. Brooklyn’s offense would not be considered potent, thus the line movement does seem a bit odd, however, the Nets are 23-11 OVER when listed as a underdog of six or fewer points. Doug's Take – Lean Over
CBB – (511) UW-GREEN BAY at (512) YOUNGSTOWN STATE 7:00 E ESPN3.com
The Green Bay Phoenix is in first place in the Horizon League and lost just their second game in league play last week at home to in-state rival Milwaukee. With Green Bay 7-3 (3-6 ATS) on the road this campaign, college basketball bettors are betting them up from -1 to -3.5 at Youngstown State. The Penguins are just 1-4 SU in recent outings, but three of the losses have been by three or less points (the lone win was by a single digit). The public might be right when you consider Green Bay is 19-6 ATS off an upset loss to a conference rival as a home favorite and Youngstown State is 1-8 AT revenging a road loss. Doug's Take – Lean UW-Green Bay
CBB – (517) NORTHWESTERN at (518) MICHIGAN STATE 7:00 E BTN
If Michigan State could ever get healthy, they might be the best team in the country, but that still will not happen for awhile with guard Keith Appling still on the shelf. Those making college basketball picks still believe the Spartans will dictate the tempo at home over Northwestern and blew up the total from 115 to 120. While the Wildcats might be 13-3 UNDER against winning teams, the Spartans are 9-1 OVER at home against opposing teams hoisting up 21 or more three-point shots a contest. Doug's Take – Play Over
CBB – (543) COLORADO at (544) UCLA 9:00 E ESPN2
The Bruins are the second-highest scoring team in the Pac-12 at 82.9 points per game and they bump that up to 86.7 when playing at Pauley Pavilion. Colorado on the otherhand has among the largest home/away scoring dichotomies in the country, averaging only 62 PPG in true road games compared to 79.2 PPG at Boulder. Basketball bettors are placing their money on the Buffalos to keep the score down, lowering the total two points to 145. UCLA comes in 11-3 OVER as a home favorite of 10 or more points, while the Buffs are 5-0 UNDER on the road this season. Doug'sTake – Lean Under
